It’s my third time having dinner at writers room. I’ve had great experiences before so this time I brought my friends from New York there. The view was still breathtaking, however, we were really disappointed with everything else. First, the service was extremely slow. We sat there for 1.5 hours without getting our main course so we checked with one of the servers and she told us our dishes will be served shortly. But it took 30 more minutes to come. The bar was half empty at that time so we didn’t know what made it that long. We were very patient at that time until our steak come. The first pictures shows the steak I had in May at writers room. It was very juicy and tender and it came with baked mini potatoes with special sauce. So I ordered it again this time. The steak in other pictures is what we got this time. It looks very sad and dry. Does it look like medium rare? Is that even steak? It tastes like beef jerky. Also, it came with fries instead of the baked potatoes and the plate was smaller. Just…everything about it was not right. Quality was much lower. The drinks were fine but won’t come again. I had really good impressions but it’s all gone now.

Absolutely stunning Toronto night views during dinner! A must-visit spot for couples seeking a breathtaking view of the Toronto skyline. While it's more of a drinks and snacks destination than a full dining experience, the creative cocktail offerings are a highlight. Parking is paid and available in Park Hyatt Toronto. Most of the days require reservation to dine-in.

It used to be nice here, now it’s more touristy. One of the bars with probably the best view in Toronto. Unobstructed view of Toronto. Night view is quite nice. Drinks are good. On the pricey side. Now many people come for the view. Loud chattering.

Lovely place and service. The rooftop views of the Toronto skyline were stunning. The space is very busy and can be a little tight if you are looking for more of a full sit-down dining experience. The decor is beautiful, relaxed, and intimate. The food was okay, a stand out dish were the fried Maitake mushrooms, they were umami and delightful, but I think there was something wrong with the oil that upset my stomach after. Unfortunately I didn’t eat much after this and we left early because of that. I would still recommend this place.

We tried the lunch menu. The food was decent. Pear ravioli was too sweet for my taste but creative. The smashed burger was good. The view is very nice.

I was told that it's been recently renovated. But I'll say that it's still a greatly designed space. The views of the Toronto skyline are amazing. The drinks are mixed well and fit the swanky atmosphere. We didn't come to eat, so I can't speak on the food. Drinks are a bit on the pricey side, but you are in the Park Hyatt, so just be prepared. Our bartenders were nice, and we had a great conversation. Would definitely come back.

Expensive food and drinks! This is a treat-yourself type of place so if you have that expectation going in, youll like it!. Every drink is pretty much around $20-$25 which we were expecting and okay with. Service is excellent! The drinks creative and are delicous and the ones we had had quite a bit of alcohol but still tasty so it was worth it for me! Food is satisfying as well. The selling point for this place is for sure that rooftop balcony. We went when the smoke was covering the city so we couldnt eat outside, but we still went out to check out the view. Highly reccomend as a one time try for some drinks and a snack! *dont go with a group though the place is small* ideal for 2-4 people :) we went on a wednesday after work hours and it was almost full, make a reso!

Writers room is a hidden gem in Toronto for sure. Really stunning views with great cocktails and ambience. This place is not cheap at all but I wouldn’t expect different from a sky bar in the Park Hyatt. Highly recommend the “A good day” and “Walking Dream” cocktails. Truly unique. The food was decent too. The fried chicken and lamb tartare were awesome. I don’t recommend the tater tots. Giving a 4* instead of 5 just because the food was really pricey for what it was but otherwise everything about this place was awesome!

I work here so maybe doesn't count but I have to give this place a lot of credits. We got the best view in the city, we have a really good food selection, from small bites to some mains, and we work really hard to provide the guest with a beautiful experience and offer them amazing cocktails. Our drinks are clean, classy and very well balanced 🍸 We also offer a great selection of wines that can be paired with our food items. We pay a lot of attention to every single details to make sure we can offer you an amazing night! Come by to check the oldest iconic bar in Toronto and ask for Marco 😉 Cheers 🥂

Love the view of the Toronto skyline but most of all the bartenders are amongst the best specially Caesar. He’s just awesome…love that he accommodates my special requests of “surprise amaretto based cocktails”. The crowd can be unruly but I just try my best to tune them out.

Service is lacking. Drinks are good. Atmosphere is great. I would recommend this spot for the view alone, as it presents a great encompassing view of the whole Toronto skyline. Close enough to feel like you're part of the action, far enough to capture it all.

The best cosmo makers in the city. The iconic bartender who worked there I think for most of his life moved back home to Portugal I believe. He was the best bartender in the city. Have always loved this place, great view, quaint and perfect to meet friends for drinks.

Writers Room Bar, on the top floor of the Park Hyatt Toronto is a fantastic spot for small snacks and drinks. We had a lovely time here. Highly recommend the Baked Brie, was phenomenal!

Writer's room has an amazing view of the city each person should visit at least once. We were welcomed by the front and the lady there was so gracious, it felt super welcoming. We had drinks at the bar and they were AMAZING. We were served by Giselle and shes an exceptional bartender. She recommended the mushrooms and she was 100% spot on with its profile. Everything was amazing. Highly recommend seeing her for your drinks. 10/10.

Wonderful bar with history and a gorgeous view. Fun fact: Their cocktail list are all literary related. We had the 'Ever After' which was an orange refresher with an egg white top that had the intricate stencil on the Toronto city skyline. With that drink and the view in front, adds up to a great evening.

What was good: - the view from the rooftop - the cocktails really good - the food What completely spoilt our experience: - the personnel. It would not be an exaggeration if I said they reminded us five times until what time we had a reservation. When we just entered, they said we have a table until 9 pm - ok, thanks. We were a company of 4 people, having a reservation for 2 hours. One person was running late - they asked several times where are they and when will they come and reminded us that we had 1.5 hours left. Each time a waiter came to our table (being not friendly, by the way), they reminded us how much time we had left. It was so strange!! We came there to enjoy not count the hours! When the last time they reminded us about the time, I could not help but laugh, and my friend said, “thanks a lot for reminding us; we do remember.” After that, they finally stopped. That is why I put three stars for the atmosphere, although the environment was beautiful and looked cozy and lovely. PS I would understand this obsession about the timings if the bar was full, but it WAS NOT, there were at least four free tables right near us

Newly renovated rooftop place on top of Hyatt. A little bit on the pricy side. Seafood were surprisingly amazing. Cocktails are pretty decent but the seasonal drink menu was a bit bland I feel. Overall very good experience.

Great cocktails. Nice view of the city and royal Ontario museum roof. It was quiet when we went for Sunday pre-dinner drinks. Prices are what you'd expect from a hotel bar.

Beautiful view and cool atmosphere, but for the price I expected much better service. Our server couldn't tell us anything about the drinks. One of the cocktails wasn't enjoyable but our server never stopped by to check on us so we couldn't order another. I would have ordered more drinks but again, service was so slow I didnt get a chance to. I'm giving four stars because the one drink was removed from our bill. If staffing levels were increased this could be a five star cocktail bar.

We went for their new lunch menu and everything tasted great! Really impressed with their drinks (comes with non-alcoholic and low alcohol options) and the printed art on top! I would highly recommend the burrata, scallop, and Korean fried chicken in lettuce wraps! The chocolate cake was delicious too! Very friendly staff, excellent recommendations. When we went the view wasn't as great because of the rain and fog, would have to come back again for the view at night!

Updated - July 2023. Came back for the summer menu. No broccoli salad but the ricotta ravioli was a delight. And the burrata continued to be excellent. We sat at the patio this time with the view right in front of us. The smashed cucumber salad was okay… a bit spicier than expected. Drinks, food, service and views = All amazing! The broccoli caesar salad made me fall in love with broccoli, which never happens. I had the bookends and the classic penicillin.. all blew me away. Great cozy ambience. one of my favourite bars in the city

This is a great place for a date or hanging out with friends over a few drinks. Great view of the city skyline and the interior decor just screams for photo ops in every corner. The service was great, attentive and professional. Drinks were quite strong and I loved that they came with popcorn, olives and almonds.

Writers Room Bar was a space I had been saving my visit for when I could see my awesome friend who loves literature. Here are my thoughts on this place: Drinks & Food: we extremely loved the creativity of the cocktails! I ordered the Time & Wander which was a pleasant drink. It is so cool that they can do different designs on this drink. The flavor profile was a bit fruity, refreshing, and the egg white made it a bit airy. I would definitely order this again! My friend ordered the Plot Twist. This drink was a surprise indeed. It had a bit of bitterness and was like a more extreme margarita almost. Needless to say, it was bold! To finish our visit, we had the Horchata & Dulce De Leche ice cream sandwich. The ice cream had more dulce de leche than horchata flavor (I was really looking forward to the horchata and wish it had more). The chocolate cookie was good, but nothing special. The ice cream sandwich is enjoyable, but I personally would not get it again. Staff: our waiter was nice and patient! We also appreciated that the ice cream sandwich was cut in half for us to share. They also split our bill easily. Space: needless to say, this rooftop bar is absolutely gorgeous! The decor is elegant. I also loved the dim lighting and tea lights on the table. The bar also looked stunning. The patio also had such an amazing view of Toronto and we enjoyed talking to each other while looking out into the city! Cost: the drinks and food are priced more steeply (for a cocktail and ice cream sandwich, my bill came out to nearly forty dollars). Considering the space and quality of cocktails, I do believe that the drinks are worth it. As for the ice cream sandwich, for nine dollars, I did not think it was worth that price point. I will definitely come back to try more drinks here and perhaps some food items as well. Writers Room is a beautiful bar that is great for sharing a special evening with your loved one(s).

Known to have one of the views of the city, the Roof Lounge offers a pretty patio that's great for the summer. Wine selection and appetizer menu is curated, but the quality is commendable. Staff is also very friendly!

Beautifully renovated space with an amazing view, great service, great food. The only thing I think needs improvement are the cocktails. I usually like complex cocktails but the ingredients in the ones we ordered didn't quite come together in a way that anyone loved; they're ok but certainly not worth the hefty price tag. That said, I would 100% go again for the atmosphere, food, and simpler drinks or wine.

Still where all the locals go. It did not do a refurbishment so it still has an amazing old world charm. Best patio and view in the city from Yorkville. I believe also possibly the oldest bartender in North America! (You can go just to listen to his stories;)

Worth to visit at least to see the view, nice design, interesting drinks and amazing service. Visited the place twice so far. Once was satisfied with the food second time it was prepared differently. Returned the dish, no charge, no additional question asked. Drinks can be customized and got sample of a cocktail to try. So couldn’t be more satisfied with the service. The bar is busy so be prepared to leave in 1,5 hours but they notify you in advance. Recommend everyone to check it out.

The view is magnificent, the staff welcoming. A little disappointed by the drinks menu which seemed to me to be limited, I would have liked there to be more cocktails. The tuna tartare is delicious but the vegetable salad was very bland and tasteless.

You may want to make reservations ahead of time as it can get very busy depending on what time you go. I was greeted with a glass of water, flavoured popcorn and sweet peanuts pretty good. I had the fried mushroom which was ok but the mushroom was a little mushy but the outside was crunchy I was hoping it’d all be crunchy but other that it was fine. I love the atmosphere, aesthetics of the space, the view, and service👌 so glad I found this hidden gem 💎 They even have a special menu for the TIFF event happening in the city 🌃 and a special drink where they print the city skyline in the foam it’s called the sally spritz🥰 definitely need to come back! Kitchen closes at 11 pm and bar starts to make call for drinks around 12, just a heads up on Thursday-Saturday when they’re open later.

This used to be one of my favourite places in the city before the renovation. It still has the same great view but they haven't changed for the better based on first impressions. Having just left dinner at another restaurant in the area I really only went for cocktails, but I'll be back again to try more of the food. The great bar mix they used to have has been swapped out by some kind of curried seasoned dried chickpeas. The popcorn bonbons with the only description of the contents being salted caramel is an embarrassment to even be on any restaurant menu, nevermind on one in a hotel of this caliber. It was literally 1-2 tiny little chocolates which tasted pretty good on a miniature plate surrounded buy 15-20 pieces of popcorn which essentially tasted like that horrible bland, unbuttered, low-cal microwave popcorn with barely any salt. Standing in line for the elevator when leaving there was a group in front of us making the exact same commentary to a staff member when asked how everything was. To us, as well as to them, there was some kind of expectation of being an elevated sweet & salty take on a caramel corn. As far as drinks: - Red Sky is atrocious and undrinkable - The Right Thing To Do was actually very good, smokey, very well-balanced and I would recommend it - The Missing Piece was okay but is essentially a subpar Negroni. I'm not even sure how this failed to impress based on the high quality ingredients, but I would have preferred a standard Negroni - A Good Day was fairly straightforward, a very good drink overall and I would order it again My initial impression is they are trying too hard to reinvent and they should either back it up to more traditional cocktails that are consistently good across the board or spend more time developing an innovative cocktail list that balances creativity with a good flavour profile. I'll find out what the actual food menu is like at a later day and try a couple more cocktails, but come on, if you don't feel like doing something more creative then just put a single very high quality chocolate truffle on a plate and call it a day for $9. Save the microwave Orville Rendenbacher Light for the grocery store shelves.

We were very lucky to go on a beautiful night. The sky was gorgeous! The outdoor patio was fun. We went on a Sunday evening from 5:30-7:30. There was one table left for us in the corner, so there was no wait, but we moved to a table up front once it was available. I was expecting it to be a bit bigger outside - it barely fit 10 small tables (for 2) and it felt a little crowded. There was no trouble hearing the conversations at the adjoining tables - in fact they were a little difficult to ignore. The service was fantastic - attentive, friendly, and quick. The food and drinks were delicious - loved the chicken dumplings. I will definitely recommend it to friends and hope to go back soon...before the weather gets too cold!

This was literally my favourite place in the entire city until it closed two years ago. I heard it will open near the end of 2020 with an entirely new and modern take but nothing will ever replace the legendary bartender that worked there, the old school leather couches, fireplace, clientele, and the patio with the best view in the city and of the city. Truly a legendary place.

Great idea! A somewhat secluded kind of secret bar on the roof top of the Park Hyatt! We made a reservation with the hotel concierge, on our way up we got a call from the bar asking to confirm. We told them we were just waiting for the elevator. Got to the top. We're greeted by a hostess. Only to find out they gave away our table! Alll within 1min. We ended up waiting on the patio for anither table. Patio was beautiful and great views of downtown. It was a gloomy rainy night hut didn't stop us from taking some good photos. Drinks were unique and interesting. Service was thoughtful and prompt. Only negative is the capacity. Not very big and tables are not private. Very loud and difficult to carry on a conversation. If you can get a table with chairs. I'd suggest sitting side by side vs across from one anither. Sit back and enjoy the views and feel like a special guest in this cool lounge.

Having been shuttered for renovations, Writer's Room is back! A rare yet perfect view of the downtown core makes this place particularly spectacular. Sumptuously decorated, Writer's Room makes you want to stay and soak in the history, the view, and the over-the top cocktails. I particularly enjoyed their Bourbon Sour, but with a 10-page-or-so bar menu, I won't attempt a summary. There is a small offering of treats to snack on, but I wouldn't plan a "dinner" here ... This is pre- and post- dinner ... For such premiums in ambience, vista, and service, expect to pay a premium. Reservations are required, and a time limit of about 1½ hours is suggested. It would be quite a lovely place for the elegantly wasted to take up residence! A beautiful place indeed! ❤️

Fun and luxurious experience. The drinks are good but some of the strongest I’ve ever had at a bar, to the point where some are hard to drink. However, the atmosphere is wonderful and upscale. The view outside is stunning. As an English major and avid reader, I love the literary theme. Also was thrilled to see drawings of famous writers on the wall, and to hear that Margaret Atwood had visited a few days before me!

The Writers Room was the cherry on top for an already exceptional evening. My wife and I had our one year wedding anniversary dinner downstairs at Joni and were invited to the Writer's Room outdoor patio overlooking the Toronto skyline. Even though we were completely stuffed to the brim from dinner, the desserts were sounded too good to pass up. Everything was exceptional, I would highly recommend the Writers Room!

This is such a radiant spot. Highly recommend coming here for the views. More on the upscale side of pricing, it is worth coming here to get a cocktail at least once. It’s conveniently located on the Bloorline. It is suggested to also sit on the patio as it’s worth it for the vibe. Definitely a great spot for tourists just as much as for locals. Make sure to check it out.

Beautiful setting for a nice drink and some light fair. I found out they have been only open for the past 3 weeks. I came here last night with a business associate for drinks. We had some nice cocktails. The drinks were well prepared but they put a few too many ice cubes. Service was excellent with great timing so we stayed for dinner. Dinner was many bite size dishes made into a meal. Chicken dish was a winner. The burger was also a top choice. The doughnut app was also amazing. The lobster gnocchi was slightly over cooked and they were a little mushy. The rest of the meal was very good. Sunset was breathtaking as we had our meal. Price was fair for the meal and drinks with an average price of $20 per item even for the size of portions. The quality and effort was worth it. The parking was a bit pricy for the evening running $75 just for parking. Looking forward to coming back another time when the rest of the menu opens up and things are more settled down.

Pricey cocktail bar in the Park Hyatt. Out of the three cocktails I tried, I really enjoyed two - I’m not a very sophisticated drinker but those just tasted good to me. Also the presentation was very pretty. The one I ordered for myself, the Age of Mass Culture - it just felt like I was drinking straight alcohol. Which may be what it is, I’m just not experienced enough to know! I think the value is reasonable but each cocktail is around $20, so it can get expensive. Overall the ambiance is great, on a Thursday night around midnight there were a good number of customers and the patio is available for some pictures of the Toronto skyline. It was a nice experience but probably only for people who appreciate these finer cocktails!

This is a good place to hang out with friends over some drinks and a good view of the city. They have a good selection of drinks, I primarily had some whisky (Oban) and tequila (Clase Azul) when I visited as well as a couple cocktails (Perpetual Motion & Age of Mass Culture). The food was good as well. Tried the Korean fried chicken with some fries with truffles. It is on the pricier side but would recommend others visit it.

I went with a close friend to the bar at the Park Hyatt. We ordered multiple drinks, which were lovely, and then I noticed I had some friends join the room. I sent them and myself a shot of tequila - the brand was Tromba, Blanco. We went on with our evening not thinking anything of it. I received my bill at the end of the evening with the Tromba shots being 20$ each on my bill. Even if they are 1.5 Oz pours on the shots, the markup is almost 800% - an extremely ludicrous amount, especially too when that’s factoring the baseline LCBO price and not a wholesale price. I felt cheated and gross from my experience. I have zero problems spending 18$ on a good martini, but to spend more on a shot? Absolutely filthy. I’ll only go back without ever ordering a shot based on the quality of space and cocktails. Otherwise, be warned.

Go for the amazing views overlooking Toronto but not for the drinks or service. Looks like a speakeasy but it's really loud. Not an intimate spot if that's what you're looking for. Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time. Drinks were overpriced and didn't pair well. Tried the 'Age of mass cultures' and 'national treasure', not in love. Food: The brie dish was good. Standard, tastes like the description. Was expecting service to be a lot better.

My first encounter with the old Writers Room was a celebration of my 1984 best selling book, Who's Who in Toronto A Celebration of this City. I felt i belonged and could imbibe with the rest of the authors who frequent the watering hole. I decided to visit and found a patronage 'Wokeness' in the new surroundings. Went back home to finish the prequel to my 'Three Pillars of Love'

Came for the view and stayed for the drinks! Probably the best panoramic view of the city with CN Tower directly across. There’s indoor outdoor seating. Came on a Saturday night without reservations but was seated quickly after being told there was a 2 hour wait. Drinks were excellent with the right kick and the service was just as good.
