I'm convinced that 90% of the 5 star reviews are from people with no taste buds. The food here tastes like it was prepared by someone just starting to learn how to cook. There's almost no flavor in any of the 4 dishes I ordered. The mock lobster or whatever it is they call it, was so so so OILY and tasted nowhere near like a real fish would and the spring rolls were burnt, greasy and tasted like dish soap. This is probably the worst vegan food in the city and the owner literally sits down at a table next to you to watch you eat their slop and/or talk to you to tell you to "leave a good review on Google". Not only is that creepy but super uncomfortable as well. The owners responses are not even their own as the creepy owner herself does not speak English fluently. Since the menu has no prices listed, the prices she vocally lists at "max $15 per dish" is deceiving as well. You don't know what's what. Never never never never never again will I come here. I dumped my takeout straight into the garbage can right after I left. Edited for owners response: The food as clearly shown in the photos I provided, is from Viet Chay ONLY. Your oily mock lobster is clearly shown in the photos as is your gross spring rolls and fried oyster mushrooms. Even the dishes in my photos match the dishes of the other reviewers photos so I don't appreciate you accusing me of leaving a "false" review just because my opinion of what you call food is negative. You're a business and you have to expect to get a bad review here and there because the whole world isn't going to all agree at once that your food is "wonderful". I LOVE vegan food and I didn't say you sold me any meat products. I'm also not part of whatever group of hamburger people you're talking about. Please re-read my review carefully. FYI, vegan and vegetarian are two completely different things and I'd also like to add that soy products are REALLY bad for your health. This restaurant's vegan food is too bland and greasy for me. I also didn't like having the owner sit at the table beside me to watch me eat. Best of luck.

Hidden gem for vegetarians and vegans. Although Toronto has many vegan restaurants, most of them serve western or pub fare. It can get boring. I’m so glad I found this place near my home. I’ve ordered takeout from here many times and was never disappointed. It has the most authentic mock beef and pork I’ve ever tasted. It’s also very VERY affordable compared go veg places downtown. I recommend their dry rice noodle dishes, spring rolls, a lot different noodles soup side dish. I hope you all never disappointed when you guys come to enjoy food at Viet Chay. Thanks chief Vicky who working there, she is so kindly and gave me a wonderful lunch time 😘😘😘😘 will be back again.

Been a vegan 30 years travel around the world, it’s the only vegan Authentic Vietnamese foods outside Asia, not only the taste but passion with foods in its original flavour from natural resources, even the hot spicy soup you can taste the natural ingredients in the soup without any chemical mixture, love it !

Hidden gem for vegetarians and lovers of Vietnamese cuisine. The food is authentic and made with lots of care. I highly recommend the papaya salad which is crispy, flavourful and aromatic. The bun bo hue which is a spicy noodle soup is also a stand out dish with a tangy and spicy soup base which will make you want to drink it all up. The curry is thick, hearty, with lots of veggie meat and vegetables and goes well with some rice noodles. It is made with coconut milk which really rounds it out. They even took a custom order request for dry rice noodle salad topped with spring rolls and veggie meat. The staff is super amazing here too. Our host Matt, made us really feel like family. He even helped occupy our two kids to let us eat uninterrupted. Our kids really loved him and he has a good heart. Looking forward to coming back.

What a gem of a find! This unpretentious little place in a strip mall on Wilson belies the delicious tastes that await you. I tried the rice rolls (fresh, cold rolls), the “shrimp”, noodles with mock meat and veg, and the King Mushrooms. Everything was absolutely delicious. The veg in the noodles were fresh and not over cooked, the sauce was sublime. The “shrimp” isn’t something I would normally order but it was prepared in a traditional way with tomato and I would definitely order it again. The mushrooms were delicious (as with most water based, fried veggies, they are best consumed at the table and not taken home) and the rice rolls were large and yummy (two in an order). I have sausage in a leaf of some sort and BBQ pieces if (I think) gluten) which I will try later. I will update this post if they are a miss, otherwise assume they were a hit as well! I will definitely make the drive to this place again! Absolutely delicious. 🙏🙏🙏

Great little vegetarian restaurant. We ordered the house special spicy pho with crispy spring rolls and matched with a delicious iced coffee. The pho was good and with generous vegan toppings that tasted fantastic. The soup base was spicy flavourful and their noodles are thicker than average pho places. However they don’t have prices on the menu which is weird 🤔 I was on a mystery ride until the bill came. The prices are higher… Great option for vegans and non vegans trying. Great option for vegans and non vegans trying.. pretty decent pho

Great vegan restaurant, definite hidden gem like what others said. Small seating space so check in with them. Also just started a few months ago so support local. Very unique dishes and loved the seaweed soup (the best dish we had)! Had fried sticky rice appetizer which also had a mock meat sausage (delicious) and Singapore vermicelli noodles. Great mock meats too.

Very yummy food, vietnam sandwich was crispy and fresh. The rice, tofu, mixed veggies and beef dish was also very flavorful. Also, the pho (rice vermicelli) was delicious. Would recommend!

Viet Chay doesn't look like much from the outside but is a hidden gem vegan Vietnamese restaurant. The staff are polite, the Pho’s are delicious and food is prepared quickly. The menu doesn’t have prices but fortunately nothing exceeds $15. The chef is very friendly and came to chat with the diners about their dishes. There are ample condiments but makes the table very crowded. Free parking is available in the plaza, directly in front of the restaurant.

I only found out about this place less than a week ago on social media. When I looked at the menu I saw several vegan/vegetarian dishes I haven’t had since I was in Vietnam I knew I had to try it. I was not disappointed. The food was great and the owner was super friendly. I especially enjoyed the BBQ Duck, Crispy Fried Kingmushrooms and the broth in the Pho was fabulous. Highly recommended.

This is the place if you want healthy, flavorful and delicious Vietnamese vegan food. It's like a fusion of Asian cuisines. We enjoyed everything we ordered especially all their noodles soups. Service is outstanding. A great place for families. Highly recommended for everyone.

Viet Chay is a vegan Vietnamese restaurant in Toronto that offers fresh, flavorful, and satisfying food. The service is friendly and attentive, and the ambiance is cozy and charming. I ordered #21 soup and my son ordered the duck and stir-fry. Both dishes were delicious and generous. The chef and owner greeted us and told us about the ingredients and the cooking methods. She also offered us tea and drinks dessert of mango icecream and yam. We’ve made it a tradition to come back to Viet Chay. It’s one of the best vegan restaurants I’ve ever been to. #winterlicious

Was intrigued to try Viet Chay because it has 5 star average reviews from 20 reviews - it did not disappoint! Staff was very friendly and helpful on what to get. We ordered the 3 Color Fried Rice and it was incredibly delicious! Flavorful, not too oily and great portion and value! As one previous commentator said, great prices! Don't know what to get? They have a combo you can try to pick and choose from a few things off the hot table. I do recommend the 3CFR because I'm definitely getting it again 🤣

Vegan food has never tasted this good. I was going on a relaxing stroll in my new neighbourhood of Ancaster and stumbled upon this unassuming place. When I read Viet Chay vegan food, I was intrigued. I made it a lunch date with my partner and when we walked in we were greeted by a joyous Vicky. Food was served quick and we also got a sweet tangerine to clean and sweeten our palates. The picture is evidence of us literally having cleaned the plates!! 100% recommended! And I will be eating here many more times.

I came here with my grandma for lunch. She was hesitant because she wanted vegan food and the sign says vegetarian but I came in and spoke with the owner who assured me the food is both vegetarian and vegan! Perfect! So we came inside and she ordered the papaya salad and number 42 on the menu and loved it! The owner is extremely nice and accommodating as my grandmother has high blood pressure, she requested no salt in her meal and she raved about how amazing it is. We will definitely be back again!

It is often nostalgia that leads me to Southeast Asian restaurants within the GTA - there are days where nothing brings more comfort than a steaming bowl of soup from one of these eateries. We had the opportunity to taste a variety of dishes from the menu. With a chewy, translucent wrapper filled with vermicelli noodles and vegetables, the spring roll was the perfect start to a delicious meal. Made only better with the second appetizer, the spicy lemongrass tofu, both the dishes were utterly satisfying, with the tofu being tender and well-spiced! Our main course consisted on Viet Chay's signature noodle soup - the Spicy Mock Beefs Rice Noodle (Bun bo Hue). Utterly comforting, the large bowl of soup was enough for a table of 4! Filled with noodles and herbs, it seemed that the soup would remedy anyone's bad day with its warmth and flavor! Eaten with the vegan beef sandwich as a side, this made for a sustaining and nourishing meal, with plenty of leftovers for us to take home. Warmly recommended! Add this to this list of unassuming vegan restaurants that serve up great food. My son and I were visiting the city, so we went a little nuts and ordered a ton of food. It was delicious-- fast, fresh, and hot. The owner was friendly and walked us through the large menu. The lobster was a favorite, and the noodle dish (can't remember now what it was, exactly). Can't wait to go back next time we are in town.

Amazing homely service from both Matt and Vicky. The food Vicky cooked was delicious! I got the fried mushrooms and the vegetable yellow noodles. I wish I had a bigger stomach so I could order more! Matt served me his home made healthy tea which was very delightful. They were also very welcoming and friendly to my meat eating fiancé. The regular customers inside were also lovely to us. I can’t wait to go back again when I’m in the area! It’s so difficult to find a great vegan Asian food place and I finally found one!

We ordered Spicy Mock beef rice noodles soup, Hot spicy mock beef yellow noodles soup, crispy fried king mushroom and Stirred Rice fried with mock beef & vegetables. Loved what we ordered and coming back to try other foods on the menu for sure. A Gem for vegan foodies 😊

We went to this seemingly whole in the wall one day with little to no expectations and we were blown away by the food and the hospitality. We ordered serval items from the menu and it felt as if the owners had invited us into their homes for a dinner and were taking care of us. We had great conversations from the moment we entered the small but very clean and welcoming restaurant to the moment we left. We appreciated how they walked us through the menu and helped us get an understanding of Viet dishes, what to order, and expect. We would recommend to get multiple dishes to try out different apps and items because everything was delicious. My boyfriend especially enjoyed the chicken wings and he’s not vegan, so those I would say are a must try. If you are into crunchy foods, I recommend the wontons as well. We will be back to try out more of the menu.

What a hidden Vegetarian Gem! Came here for an early Friday dinner before heading to Yorkdale Mall, the restaurant is a very small semi take out style shop inside a small strip mall beside Yorkdale, everything here is vegetarian and everything we ordered were delicious, we ordered Fried King Mushrooms, Thai salad rolls, fried veg sticky rice, veg mock beef rice noodle soup(to go), and Singapore noodles. We really liked the sticky rice and the Thai salad rolls, The owner seem to be working by herself when we visited so the wait time for our order is a bit long ( she was running in and out of the kitchen), but the food taste was very good, would definitely come back again. Note : the menu on the tables is a little different from the menu on the TVs behind the front counter Note 2 : the owner gave us free food for us to take home (spring roll & assortment of other items - see pic) which was a pleasant surprise!

Definitely a vegan restaurant you want to go to if you are visiting Toronto. Everything was delicious! The fried sticky rice appetizer was my favorite, but everything we had was great. We have loved how much vegan food there is in this city, but this is a truly unique place. I've never had anything like it. We drove 30 minutes to get there, and honestly would drive twice as far to eat here again.

Me and my girlfriend visited this place fairly recently. This is definitely the place to order from for all Vegan and Vegetarian individuals. Lots of options and you can taste the quality and care that is put into the food. Would recommend for all, would definitely come back again. Their seaweed soup was very tasty, their spring rolls were crunchy, and the broth for the Pho was delicious.

You do NOT want to miss eating here. It's an INCREDIBLE experience! you need to try their spicy noodle Pho. It's homemade broth made with love. Even if you're not vegan, you must try it. The range of flavours and vegan meats and vegetables is so good and the prices are good for the quality of food. It's a tiny little place and we had the great pleasure of chatting with Vicky, the owner and cook, and to hear the stories behind the food. We can't wait to go back! It may not look like much from the outside, but it's a totally authentic Vietnamese experience! Thank you for putting so much love in the food!

One of the freshest bahn mi breads I've ever had! The mixed mock meat had a slight off-putting smell but that's my personal taste - nothing wrong with it per se. The taste was good, but not great. Again, personal preference. The lady that served me was very nice. There's a handful of tables laid out in a cozy small place.

Exceptional experience! Food was very tasty and the broth was clear, made by veggies and had no MSG. I had Bun Hue and my boyfriend got Bun Rieu, both of us loved the dishes we ordered. I highly recommend ordering the fried king oyster mushrooms as well - try it with some sriracha👌🏼 The owner was personable and generous. We’ll definitely come back soon.

Great food with tasty flavor. We visited this place in the first day of Lunar New Year! All the food we ordered were just delicous: lobster roll, vegan BBQ, seaweed soup, sour vegie soup (canh chua), pad Thai, and BBQ bread (bánh mì). Kids loved the iceream too, but only had 2 options for them.

Amazing little place belting out unbelievably delicious Banh Mis and Vietnamese fare. We had Vietnamese coffee, fried king mushrooms served with a sweet chilli sauce which was delicious, Lobster (this was good - personally loved the Banh Mi better), vegan bbq Banh mi (this was so good it had me in tears. I planned on my next one while eating the first one), and the vegan chicken Banh Mi. Food was amazing. Service was prompt and gracious. The owner is a lovely warm lady who assured us everything was vegan. She made us feel very welcome. I will be back soon. Absolutely delicious. Did I say the food was yum?

Simply delicious! The food is fresh and tasty. Good portions and price. Today we came here for the first time. We ordered the classic Phở Chay and Bún Huế Chay, totally worth the wait. Quite different from the two other phở chay restaurants we go to regularly, which is great and we love it, more variety! Soups were tasty, nice selection of mock meats, tofu and veggies. We particularly really like the choice of rice noodles they used. This place is the best! Their environment is very amazing. The owner and staff is super nice. We aren’t vegetarian but this food is just as good if not better than any pho place with meat. We walked away feeling happy, totally satisfied and contented. Will definitely come back soon to try the other foods from their menu... can't wait!

Wasn’t sure what to expect for our first visit to the Restaurant since the pandemic was announced but I was really pleased with our experience! Visors and masks on staff, temperature checks and sanitizing before entering, masks on unless seated at the table, disposable gloves for self-service. Food was as good as ever and all of our favourites were there. It’s like Chinese tapas service. Order dishes from a sheet and they will bring them to the table. Staffs and management are excellent and attentive. Great restaurant with great service.
