A mystical, historical experience!! To be able to physically touch a headstone from the Roman 1st Century...there is no way to describe that!! The architectural features of this castle is strong and has endured centuries of weather patterns, as well as humans interacting with it. The visit has left a lasting impression on my mind...and the museum of artifacts situated in a tower in the castle - is a must see and it's ALL FREE OF CHARGE...it's a definite DON'T MISS....enjoy😁 Open during the week and on a Saturday. I suggest visiting between 9am - 13:00.

I admire this place because I was born in this town. I didn't do a full walk around but from the entrance, it looks like they (government) have taken more interest in restoring the historical grounds. Worth seeing with gorgeous views of the old city and new.

I thought this castle very interesting not only for its early history, but for the fact that it was part of the "Lines of Wellington", the very effective defensive system built by Portuguese and British engineers to keep the French army out of Lisbon during the Peninsular War. I had not understood before how this contributed to Napoleon's downfall years after. The castle at Torres Vedras (old towers) was a stronghold in the Lines.

Beautiful view of the city. Nice for an afternoon stroll. Entrance is free so that is definetly a bonus. There isn't much but castle walls but leaves alot to the imagination which is cool.

This castle gives a magnificent city view and has a significant history attached to its demise with stones and architecture landscape to tell the story. The story of layered history of Islami and chirsitanity. "In 2001, archaeological excavations carried out inside the building revealed nine Muslim silos, the first material remains of the Arab occupation in the region, containing numerous Islamic pottery vessels, dating from the period of the Caliphate of Córdoba (10th and 11th centuries), together with pieces from the first years of the Christian occupation and coins from the 12th to the 15th centuries." It's important to acknowledge the history as most of Portugal and Spain were once rulled by Al-Andelus. Which was a former Islamic states and now a modern Spain and Portugal.

Medieval castle built on moorish remains, however, the interior offers little to see, due to the earthquake destruction in 1755. However fantastic views to the surrounding countryside and hills, where the battle again the French army too place

Great for a Sunday stroll with the family. The castle is not a big one, and it has seen better days, but if you watch the brief documentary at the Information place, you'll get a great idea of what it was like back in the day.

Nice to see the village streets, the church and then go up for a small exhibition and views towards the surroundings. The town itself has lost some of its charm as it was modernized.

Limited parking (5 cars or so). This place is free to visit. The church near the entrance is still active it seems. To learn about the castle go to the top, where you can find a small cave-like entrance. There is a small museum with a video to watch about its history.

Old casale, situated on the hill top in the middle of Torres vedras. 1 km from the bus terminal and railway station. You can see a panoramic view of city. maintained very well, surrounded by a park. Entry is free.

It has a video screen in the tower part explaining the history. There are artifacts too on display. The little church is still in use and open to visitors at certain hours. Great views! Rather a steep approach as you would expect.
