Sometimes there aren't enough praises to tell about a place you stayed at... All the photos you see, both on the hotel website and on the various websites, fail to show how successful the place is. The hotel is located on the edge of the cliff, above the ocean, a breathtaking place at sunset. The rooms are huge, the cleanliness is excellent, the shower is simply wonderful, the beds are comfortable and everything is just perfect. Above all - the staff simply goes out of their way to make you feel like a VIP guest. Starting with a warm welcome, a surprise waiting for you in the room upon entering, more small surprises arrive from time to time. And above all - the customer service manager sends a personal message and is interested in whether you are satisfied. An ideal place for both a romantic vacation and a family vacation, worth the price and highly recommended

Overall, an excellent hotel to unwind and relax in. What a beautiful start to our holiday in Portugal. The location, rooms, service, food and drink were outstanding. Ines Gil, Guest Relations Manager, provided us with a most welcome reception and made us feel like royalty. All of the staff members were friendly and always helpful. The breakfast every morning was exceptional and delicious. The Gin-Pairing Dinner was a meal not to be missed, truly amazing. This place is a keeper, will definitely stay again on our next trip to Portugal.

Avoid if you’re a foreign tourist without a car. Worst resort experience I’ve had. I decided to come here on my birthday and as a treat while trying to stay loyal to Marriott - I decided to come here: BIG MISTAKE. 1) Transportation: From Lisbon it’s a 1.5 hour train ride here (roughly the same drive). €10 train ride but what Uber says is a €15 ride - Ubers don’t exist. If someone happens to drive - they’ll cancel your ride because it’s so out of the way. So you’re stuck with a €30-€40 taxi from the station. Side note it would be about €80 Uber straight from Lisbon. 2) Service: In any other Marriott, even small events would be celebrated especially if you have status (Titanium here). Nope - starting with talking to them via chat it took some pressing to get them to help find a taxi from the station; and on check-in they didn’t even say happy birthday (literally just “oh it’s your birthday” when looking at my passport). They also tried to charge me for minibar purchases that I didn’t do when I checked out - luckily I saw them in the invoice and disputed (they took them off after). Bonus: During breakfast, it took halfway through my meal for the waiter to even offer me coffee; meanwhile they were huddled together laughing and just chit chatting with each other (quite loudly) throughout the meal. Food was mediocre at best. 3) Amenities & Beach: There is no beach to speak of - see picture. The 2 days I was there, you couldn’t go into the water because of the waves. To get to the beach was a set of steel stairs so not accessible in general. Pool was pretty decent but the hot tub was shut down when I was there. 4) Gym: Fitness center was decently equipped but quite dated. Not a bad thing, all the machines were maintained decently. Overall the biggest hit to me was the level of service. I saw some comments on here about staffing issues and how it’s a younger and untrained staff. No clue if it’s true or not but it seems likely. Instead of ending my vacation on a high note - I’m spending my time writing crabby google reviews.

This hotel is on the prettiest beach we have ever seen - perfect sand for miles - gorgeous water - and enclosed by pretty rock cliffs maybe about 40 ft (12m) high. The water in May is too cold for swimming. The hotel is very nice, with very good restaurants, bar, and pool area. We did not use the Spa services, but based on everything else I would expect a very good experience. The rooms were nice but not exceptional. Our room had a very nice ocean view, and the sunsets are stunning!

Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. Everyone spoke great English and was very accommodating. Breakfast buffet was amazing! Other than that the food options were not great, it would have been nice to have a few more vegetarian items to enjoy. A huge amount of items at the buffet had meat including every one of the cold salads, and in the restaurants almost all of the side and starters were meat-based. They said they could ask the chef to accommodate but it would have been nice to have those options on the menu in the first place. The hotel is very charming with Portuguese design elements. Our room was clean inside but our patio chairs were super dirty with sand and cobwebs. Overall I’d recommend if you are looking for a very quiet vacation. There were not many people around at all and it felt like a bit of a ghost town sometimes, but enjoying the sound of the ocean right out of our room was lovely.

We had a wonderful stay in this hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Facilities, rooms, interior, exterior, etc were exceptional. Rooms were lovely, clean and spacious. Breakfast buffet had huge variety. Would recommend to book evening buffet, it is beautiful. Lovely pools and spa. We will definitely return. Car would be required as no town in walking distance. Ideal for short breaks and golf holidays.

Love this place, staying here for the second time. Great calm location, excellent breakfast, only 1 hour away from Lisbon. The only thing to complain about is that the swimming pool and other wellness facilities were closed and nobody warned us at time of booking.

The location is beautiful, the beach in front of the hotel is almost private just for hotel guests and very pretty. Unfortunately I couldn’t sleep all night because the beds are so hard, I had pain on my hip bone. Otherwise just a normal chain resort without much charme. The spa area is only allowed to enter with a bath cap which they sell for 6 euro.

Nice place like Marriott is always worldwide. Nothing to complain, good service, room service clean and super friendly. Food as always Marriott quality, but you should go outside to explore the real cuisine in the country side.

We stayed here for 2 nights, we were welcomed from the very moment we arrived by very friendly staff who helped us with our luggage. We were travelling with a disabled person and our every need was catered to. The location of this resort is perfect, it's right on the beach and we could see the view from our room. We were welcomed with a free drink which was a nice touch. We managed to eat in the main restaurant and it felt like we were on an episode of Masterchef. The food was delicious and the flavours so unpredictable and delightfully unusual. The staff were professional, friendly, knowledge and efficient. The location is so close to other places like Obidos which we visited and is a short drive away, there are a lot of other places here nearby. In the evenings on both nights there was a live singer both different but very talented and played all the crowd pleasing music we know and love. On the second night the singer even dedicated a song to the disabled person travelling with us which made him feel really special. I will definitely come back to this beautiful place, the sooner the better! 👍

They are very understaffed and you can tell that some of the staff feel very frustrated, pool bar closed through lack of staff and many of the staff are young with no experience thus hotel is currently being run as a 3 star hostel at best the staff who are there are trying to do their best. Service extremely slow senior management at this hotel are not taking it seriously

We stayed here in February this year in a triple room, including breakfast and dinner. Very warm welcome, fast check-inn. Room spacious, comfortable and quiet. The only sound that was heard was the noise of the ocean. Both meals were perfect. Staff very friendly. Location is remote.

Stayed here for two nights in July while visiting friends and playing golf. Lovely welcome from guest services with a welcome drink and breakfast provided as elite members. Upgraded to a lovely modern sea view room ( 2 double beds) with coffee service, refrigerator, and enough power outlets for phones, PC etc. Breakfast busy but it was in the middle of kids school holidays.

Sublime resort surrounded by a beautiful beach and golf course. Staff were supe rawest and professional during our stay. What we liked is that everything’s made ready for you to relax. No need to drive anywhere you have delicious restaurants directly at the resort with changing menus. Room was super comfy and we got an upgrade! Thanks a million to the team!

Accommodation very clean and spacious. This is an extremely vast complex so make use of the shuttle bus to get around. The food and service in the golf club is very good. A big downside of here is that it is very very remote. 30 minutes to the next town. If all you want is to play golf then this is for you. If you want golf and a bit of nightlife then this might be a bit remote

Wonderful getaway in a quiet area of Portugal, opposite Lisbon. About an hours drive to any major city but great if you want some private time. Walks out to a beautiful beach and the food/drinks were great.

This place is kinda in the middle of nowhere. Cant find a shop for 6km. Room was on gound floor and had slightly damp or smelly feet air to it. Definitely not 5 stars. The spa and buffet were good though you have no choice but to eat on site as not easy to get anywhere else so you are kind of trapped

Great for long beach walks and swims. Food was super, especially the breakfast buffet. The upgrade to the spa fixed the only previous weakness at the resort. Fabulous relaxed break

We rent on the estate and can honestly say it is one of the worst places we have lived. No amenities in the area nearest main supermarket is 25 minutes away minimum. Loud drunken groups of football teams and golfers drunk and abusive. Marriot hotel does not care and only respond with a robotic answer. Speeding and noisy vehicles. I would not recommend staying here.

Location is not good if you are the type who likes to go back to hotel during the day. The "resort" is located in middle of nowhere, a real investment holiday home wasteland. You'll need a car for sure or at least some form of hired transport. There is nothing for a good 30min in any direction but empty, unused holiday homes. The road to the resort is close to a dirt track full of potholes for a good 2-3 km and then you hit the wasteland. In the resort itself food and drink options are average, the breakfast is not great, coffees terrible. The room service menu is better than some of the restaurant ones. If you pay extra for an ocean view room expect to have to trek 10min to the backend of the hotel and then if on ground floor your ocean view will be about a sliver of ocean over a lawn/hedge.

Loved this resort so much! We stayed here for our honeymoon. Wine selections were great and food was delicious! Only complaint is the location is very hard to get to, but worth it for the peaceful and gorgeous views and ocean! Just have to plan accordingly.

Amazing hotel, plenty of restaurants we loved the sushi and That we could order the other menu as well, dessert was tasty, they had an amazing buffet, just wish there was a shop ! Great view of ocean and there’s indoor and outdoor pools and a spa. There’s a golf course which is right on the cliffs, pretty impressive. Staff was great, building is impressive too.

The standard room would need a refurbishment. Breakfast was excellent. Stuff is very nice and kind. Wellness is okay but not too exciting, especially for kids. Location is awesome. You have a very unique view to the ocean and incredible waves. Depending on the season...

Fantastic place. Really. I'm lifetime platinum, and this is a great resort where they really take care of you like you'd expect from a Marriott property. The people are so nice and friendly and helpful. This can be missing from other places these days, but this hotel has it all. The room we had was spacious for Portugal. For Europe actually. The towels were big and cozy. We had a balcony and they provided umbrellas in the room and cushions to take out onto the balcony furniture. They had a breakfast buffet and a dinner buffet as well. They cook the steaks super thin, but the evening buffet (opened at 7pm) had a steak chef who would prepare steaks to order. Eggs to order and omelets in the morning. Not American food, but typical for Europe and quite tasty. They have the special espresso machines all day at the bar since they don't have an M-Club, they just "charge" it to your room, so if you're Bonvoy elite, it's included. You can't get down to the beach at low tide unless you're willing to use the rope with knots in it and batman your way down, but the surfers were definitely enjoying 20-foot waves and they got down there somehow. The golf looks great, though it was too cold for my taste. We drove over to Fatima, which took about an hour and 10 minutes. The Castle Obidos is only about 10-15 minutes away, so that's convenient. But we could have enjoyed all our quiet time in the hotel. Very nice amenities, you'll love it! Oh, one thing is that bottled water is free for breakfast, but not dinner. So if you need bottled water, maybe take some with you from the room to save 5 euros.

One night stay at the very affordable Marriott Praia D'el Rey, was drawn here by the amazing beach views. First, the hotel is a bit off the beaten road, so it is a nice stop between Lisbon and Porto, but you will spend at least 20 min off the freeway getting there. And there's not many food options along the way so be ready for that. The hotel is basically located near some exclusive communities, so you know it will be swanky, and when you pull up you'll see why. Parking is relatively easy (which is good), there's a small playground in front for kids. The lobby is spacious, with plenty of seating, open views, and was maintained well. There's a nice bar area, beautiful restaurant, very impressive space. I was able to get a nice ocean facing view - however, it's like a 5 min walk to get to your room as I was one of the outermost wing. You don't realize how big this hotel is until you see it in person. The room was enormous, with plenty of seating, nice outdoor sitting area, huge bed, great bathroom. Too bad I was only there one night, could have stayed multiple days here. Also - amazing breakfast. Lots of great pastries, fruit, eggs cooked to order, and pastel de natas. Breakfast is almost better than dinner here.

We went here as a group of 12 golfers mid November. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I received a terrace room and was switched without hesitation to a balcony room upon request. The rooms are very spacious and have 2 comfortable beds (1,40x2,00). Rooms are cleaned very thoroughly and you receive a complimentary bottle of still water daily. We only used the Tempera restaurant for breakfast and dinner. The offered foods (buffet style) are very tasty and there are a lot of healthy choices available. Unfortunately, the desserts are very tasty too, so we all had too much of them. The only thing that needs improving is the golf shuttle service. In the mornings there are a lot of people wanting to go to one of the three surrounding golf courses and there is a lot of wait. My favorite was the Praia D’El Rey golf course. Royal Obidos was the least enjoyable to play. Due to lots of rain, the terrain was extremely soggy. Therefore you cannot drive the buggy on the fairways, making it a not very pleasurable experience if not playing as a single handicapper. Luckily, we were able to switch our second tee time here to West Cliffs, which is also a stunning golf course, I highly recommend. Do not forget Moskito repellent. They will eat you alive if there is no wind. Note that this is a very remote location. There are no shops, cafes or supermarkets nearby. There was not even a small shop within the hotel to buy water, a snack or toiletries.

Nice hotel right on top of the beach, the location is incredible, surrounded by nature and golf courses. The facilities are very good, the pool is amazing, one of the best I have ever been in. The restaurant doesn’t have a lot of options but the food is delicious. The breakfast is lacking for a 5 star hotel but good enough. Bedroom amenities are okay, not absolutely remarkable but nice. The reception staff is very nice. The staff that clean the rooms is a bit pushy, several times they knocked on the door and simply entered the room straight away without giving me enough time to get to the door. Once they almost caught me naked since I had just come back from the pool and was changing clothes. A bit unpleasant. Other than that, I recommend this place and would visit again.

This hotel is wonderful. The building is so beautiful, very well kept with breath taking ocean views and fantastic spaces and facilities: scenic outdoor terraces, beautifully decorated indoor bars with sea view, well kept gardens, big outdoor pool with plenty of sun beds, very well equipped and new gym, excellent indoor pool with jacuzzi, sauna and Turkish bath - fantastic place to relax. Our room was very spacious, the beds were very comfortable, perfect room temperature and soft towels. Every space is spotless clean. The kids club is so great! They have a huge garden with slides and swings and a good size room for kids to play. The space can be accessed at any time. The staff is 5+ stars: consistently friendly, professional, welcoming, attentive, helpful. The hotel delights its guests with a lot of small details: they gave our daughter a balloon upon arrival and soap bubbles when we left. They also offered us a welcome drink and local sweets to take on our journey upon departure. The only aspect which needs improvement is the restaurant/room service. We had dinner at the buffet restaurant for 35€each + drinks (non included). The food was overall ok but a bit below our expectations. The meat hadn't been cooked the right way, the fish was ok but nothing special, same for the salads. What made the dinner worth its price were the desserts: so delicious. The drinks were very expensive (1 water, 1 pepsi, 1orange juice = 18euros). In the morning I went for breakfast at the restaurant and I really liked the variety and freshness of food (only the coffee wasn't great) and the staff was so friendly and attentive. However, my husband had to request room service for breakfast because he was unwell. Even though he had already paid the room+breakfast fare, he could only get continental breakfast in the room at no extra cost (except for the room service =7€). For hot food he would have to pay extra, which we found unfair. Also, they brought him some honey which had already been open. We feel that he should have been offered more choice, among the food variety he would have gotten in the restaurant, since he had already paid for it. Just a tip for the hotel to improve. These are obviously details, the hotel is overall amazing and we will be back.

Stayed there four nights Sept 2022. We liked the building and location. Food is good. Staff is a bit inconsistent - some are very helpful and others not so much. The pool area is beautiful and the bar staff there are great. Golf course is amazing. I would recommend it.

Went on a golf holiday with 7 friends and stayed at this resort. The hotel itself is fabulous, right next to the sea, well about 40 steps down to the beach. Rooms excellent will lots of room. We were booked in only for bed and breakfast which was again excellent with a large choice for all tastes. Service first class. Sports bar very good for lighter meals. Service excellent. Alcohol a bit pricey but is a 5 star hotel. However a large Monkey 47 Gin and Tonic worked out at £37.00. Only had the one. The hotel is situated on the Praia D'el Rey estate which is huge with lots of beautiful villas etc. However we found it strange that there were no shops, supermarket, restaurants or bars in the immediate area. We went out for evening meals to Peniche and Obidos. Peniche if you like fish and Obidos, which was our favourite, for meat and fish. Tomas and his colleagues on the Guest Services were very helpful in recommending restaurants, booking them and the taxis for us. The hotel has lots of facilities such as weights room, massages, indoor and outdoor pools etc. Everything on our holiday was very good from the golf courses we played to the other places we visited eg Obidos and of course the hotel itself.

Great spot. Very welcoming and accommodating staff. Food was quite pricy. Room was well lit, wholesome and very comfortable. Our roof offered excellent views of the ocean.

It's unbelievable being in a 5-star hotel and after being their for 3 nights in a small corporate event, when a jacket is left at the bar of the lounge (near the reception) at 1h30 am, it “magically disappears”! Being the answer from the reception employees, “we will give it a look, but sometimes this happens…” I’m assuming that there are security cameras in that area and should be easy to see if it was a guest, an employee, or any 3rd party to take it, but none of this was evaluated! After this event it’s not the quality of the hotel is the lack security and trust, that comes to my mind, I don’t recommend the hotel. A 5-star hotel should be a safe place to be.

  • 3/5 Florian L. 1 year ago on Google
Very nice location and staff. Breakfast was good and diversified. The rooms are well furnished. However, the room isolation from the corridor was poor and we were disturbed during the night by the noise outside. We could also hear the room next door through the ventilation system. Finally, the bed and pillow quality was mediocre. To summarize, a lot of nice things but the basic expectations we have for an hotel (sleeping well) were not really met.

Worth the price! Was expecting much less for the price but received much more!!! Beautiful sunset view and breathtaking beach! Food was fairly priced and had lots to choose from. The front desk helped us with anything we needed and helped us find places to eat. The gym was full of useful machines and more! The room was nice and neat. Had lots of amenities! Family friendly with a children’s playhouse!

I will tell you some thing that travel agents don't want you to know. When booking hotels use ʜᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴜʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏᴍ They easily have the best deals on rooms! Much better than using expedia, tripadvisor, hotwire. That's for sure!!! A great resort. If you love golf, surfing, good food and friendly people. My favourite golf course, it has everything.

A wonderful place to unwind and enjoy the wild ocean and amazing beaches. But that’s not all, THE STAFF is AWESOME. They attended all my special requests due an injury, everything was possible and the service was very timely. Great amenities, very clean and enough choice of food besides good other choices outside the resort.

WARNING: Stay away from the beach volley court! The court is not made for volley. The sand is too shallow and contains big sharp stones pointing upwards from the hard surface under the sand. I cut my knee quite badly and my friend had his foot cut. It is a big trap.

Amazing hotel. Amazing rooms. Amazing beach. Amazing food (breakfast and dinner). But the most amazing of all was definitely the costumer service. It deserves without any doubt a huge 5 star rate. Congrats!

This review is for the golf course only. Pleasant enough course, really good condition, great views on the front (ocean), back more wooded. But the course itself is non-descript. Some challenging holes but just mostly, blah. If you like resort type golf courses, this is for you. If you like a bigger challenge, I would look elsewhere.
