About six years ago I stayed at this hostel, took surf lessons and enjoyed it very much which is why I want to stay there once again. In order to take surf lessons I texted the Amar staff which first stalled me for a few times and then confirmed a surf lesson for me one day before arrival. When I arrived (at around 9 pm) they told me that all surf lessons are cancelled which left me standing there on my own without any surf lesson and without much time to check for other surfschools. The condition of the rooms is worse than it was (door knobs are loose which might lock you in the bathroom if it comes off) shower holder was not fixed properly to the wall which is why you had to hold the shower head all the time and there were stains all over the room. In addition the dishes were so dirty that you had to rewash everything which made cooking a tedious task. The only thing we really liked was the breakfast which is why I am giving 2 stars. I will be choosing another hostel if I’m staying in Ericeira again.

Beautiful “mansion” which is now a very well used hostel with all the amenities you may need. The rooms were in excellent conditions and the staff was absolutely amazing. We also took a couple of surfing lessons with their school and it was as well awesome! Highly recommended place!

Amazing place. Really spacious and beautiful building with a lovely garden that smells of pine trees. The town of ericeira is also a really nice fishing village and the waves are epic.

My friend and I had a private surf lesson with Rafa. He was a great instructor and gave us great advice to improve our surfing as well as good advice on where to go in the local area for our ability. He was very engaging and made the lesson very enjoyable. I would 100% recommend Rafa for anyone looking for a lesson. Paddy

Went for 4 nights B&B with 3 surf lessons for myself and two kids (ages 13 and 15). Service was spot on, breakfast was freshly made (the Brazilian cheese bread was amazing) and the surf lessons with Rafa were perfect for us beginners. Kids are requesting a return trip this summer and we'd definitely ask for Rafa again.

Great hostel, big garden and common areas and close to the beach. Clean showers and bathroom and very nice personnel. Only thing is the bunk beds are very noisy when making the smallest movement but that’s really the only downside.

BEST HOSTEL - NICE FOR REMOTE WORKING We had a very nice stay at this hostel. All is very clean, cosy, very beautiful garden, super friendly hosts and stuffs and a lot of space and different corners for hangin around, doing sports and and and.. It is perfekt located in the middle of ericeira, only some minutes walking down the street you can get all what you need. If i´ll come back to ericeira, its my first choice again! Both the staff and guests super friendly and helpful. I am a retired touring cyclist and would recommend this hostel - stayed in a six bed mixed shared room.

We stayed for a 3 day vacation and did the surfing class. The service was great from the jump. We were greeted by reception and given an overview of activities and things to do in the town. We were given quality recommendations as well. They allowed us to store bags until we could check in and after we checked out until our Uber arrived. The rooms were clean and had a comfortable setup once inside. We had a private room that felt as comfortable as any hotel. The surfing instructors were fantastic and patient with us less water coordinated land locked folk. I would highly recommend signing up for a class, and hope you enjoy your stay in the town of Ericeira!

This has been the second year we visited Amar and both times we had an amazing experience. Really nice spacious and clean rooms, really friendly staff, a nice kitchen with all the equipment you need and a beautiful garden with various spots to chill. Would highly recommend booking the surfing lessons at the hostel as well, since the surf instructors have great teaching skills and are very kind!

I took surf lessons with this hostel and was very unhappy with the whole experience. The instructors are great, however, the surf school/organisation itself was disappointing. They are on the more expensive side of lessons and did not offer any additional value. Also, I fell very sick and could not change the date of my lesson. (In other surf schools in Ericeira they are ok with postponing a lesson when you don't feel well). This review is not related to the hostel since I did not stay there.

Loved my stay at Amar! I stayed in the dorm, beds were a bit loud and the room was very simple, but its all you need. The main areas in the hostel were so great and cute. The staf is absolutely friendly and kind, its at a great location and Ericeira is 100% worth the visit.

Best hostel in Ericeira. From the location to the staff, they are always welcoming and flexible. The rooms are clean and comfy and the breaksfast is superb thanks to Sonia! Our surf lessons with Edo were amazing, he was super knowledgable and fun! We will decently be back.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Amar for eight days, and I must say that my experience surpassed all expectations. From the incredible surf lessons to the mouthwatering breakfast, every aspect of my stay was truly remarkable. Ksander and Edu, the dedicated surf instructors at the hostel, were simply outstanding. Their expertise and passion for surfing were evident in every session and I learned so much. Another highlight of my time at the hostel was the incredible breakfast prepared by Marisa. From yummy fruit to Brazilian dishes, it was great! She also recommended me Ericeira Yoga Studio with Rodrigo as a teacher. I highly recommend joining one of his classes! I would also like to express my gratitude to Sónia and Ana Luiza, two of the hostel's workers, for their exceptional kindness and hospitality. The overall atmosphere at the hostel was vibrant and energetic but also with enough places to relax and unwind. The communal spaces were well-maintained and cleaned occasionally. The private room was very comfortable as well. Lastly, I need to highlight the beautiful location of the hostel. Close to the beach, near the town centre and at the hostel itself a beautiful roof terrace. I will definitely come back!

Best place to sleep in Ericeira. Offering both shared and private room, comfort and clean. Lots of nice common area. Sonia is super nice and manages the hostel like a family!

Our stay at Amar was perfect: from the spacious room and the amazing home made breakfast to the surfing school right in the hotel and of course the wonderful management and staff. Highly recommended for a surf stay in Ericeira!

I felt very comfortable in this hostel, I like the vibe here and the type of people that this place attracts. It's a hundred-year-old house with style, the staff are lovely and the garden is magnificent and very appreciable, being so centrally located.

Very poor value for money. I was particularly disappointed considering what I was expecting. The reception is awful, you feel like you're annoying the receptionist. I bumped into the manager a few times and he didn't even say hello. The rooms are minimalist, and the bedding frankly not very good quality. I wouldn't recommend it!

More like a guest house than an hostel as it’s basically a pretty big boutique house with a lovely garden and outdoor areas. Rooms are spacious and generally very quiet at night. Very chilled and peaceful atmosphere, mostly couples and families. Staff are great and make Amar the best 🤟🤟

we stayed in a private room with ensuite bathroom for a week, which was clean and beautiful. The internet in the room is sufficient for two people working remotely. Another big plus is the proximity to the city centre, everything is in walking distance. BUT: be careful which room you get assigned as the pictures on the web page are ‘for illustration purposes only’, as we were told by the manager. So at first we ended up in a dark substandard room with barely any window or charme. Only upon insisting vigorously and calling the manager many times we finally after one night in the other room got the room we had booked and payed! See pictures for comparison.

I didn't stay at the hostel but I joined their surf lessons. After surfing with Selina and Amar, i decided to stick with Amar. The instructors were very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly Recommend!

I booked an 2 night overnight stay at Amar Hostel but due to the COVID situation no longer felt comfortable sleeping in an open dorm room. I found a different accommodation and I asked Amar hostel to apply the credit instead to a surf lesson. They refused and are extremely unwilling to accommodate any changes or serve their customers. Beware.

We've had an amazing stay at Amar Hostel. The location is super! Nearby the center and a short walk to the beaches of Ericeira. Also very friendly staff. Especially Sonja, you should definitely have a chat with her about Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Harry Potter or any other fantasy related movies or series:) I would also recommend to book the surf lessons with Jono and Yvette. Great teachers and also very friendly and fun! Thanks Amar!

Clean, well located and beautiful, so a perfect hostel. The only things they could improve are: wifi, since it's slow and you have to login every time and the stoves in the kitchen which are very slow and old.

I had a great time here! Amazing place, clean, beautiful garden, wonderful rooms, lovely staff and surflessons by an experienced instructor who improved my technique.

Me and my girlfriend spent 3 days, 2 nights in the hostel and we have absolutely loved it. The staff is super friendly and the other guests too. Amazing atmosphere. The room and the toilet are spotless and very comfortable We joined the beginners surfing lessons and we have enjoyed them a lot. We will defeney be coming back!

This is the best hostel I've ever stayed in, rooms are incredible, surroundings are beautiful and the staff are incredible! I have stayed here twice now and would recommend this hostel to anybody. For those interested in surfing they offer rentals and some of the best surf instructors the world has ever seen! Thanks again guys hope to see you soon!

Amazing hostel experience in true surf town. The brilliance of this hostel (aside from the cheap beers) is the people that it attracts. Rooms are not of the highest standard (although if you are booking a hostel you shouldn't expect this), but pretty much everyone I met with was welcoming, easy-going, and open. In a short stay, I managed to make some great friends and great memories. Will definitely visit again ASAP!

We rented a scooter here and we were treated so nicely! I recommend renting a scooter here. It is very cheap and good service. The people who work here are so kind :) truly made us happy.
