During our short visit to town, we stumbled upon REX Gastro Pub Garden, and it instantly became our favorite bar. Whenever we return to this town, there's no doubt we'll be coming back to REX. The warm hospitality of owner Simon, combined with the incredible bands and inviting atmosphere, make it a place we can't resist. It feels like a home away from home, and we highly recommend experiencing it for yourself.

We enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving dinner in the spacious garden. Simon and his team went out of their way to make us feel at home. And a great place to watch the World Cup while sampling the variety of beers on hand.

Simon the owner and Buddy the dog are very welcoming and friendly hosts. We enjoyed a good selection of bottled Belgian beers and Guinness on tap. I would highly recommend visiting, especially if you are visiting the famous town of Óbidos. A fantastic place for lunch in the sun, with a beer or wine in hand, in the large pub garden out the back. Vegetarian options too! We can’t wait to take friends and family here but for now we will be returning as regularly as possible.

British beer pub, Belgian beer (as well as many others), American style cheeseburgers, live Portuguese music, classic Portuguese dishes, and Romanesque aquaducts dating back to the 1400s in the background. It’s a true melding of cultures, flavors, and ambiance with friendly service, and a handsome canine greeter, (aptly named) Buddy. Do yourself a favor and step outside the medieval gates of Óbidos and into the wonderful atmosphere of Rex’s Gastro Pub Garden for a perfect evening!

5 stars because: - They have a great assortment of beers. - The music is awesome with live bands playing often. - The burger are amongst the best I’ve ever had. Simple but the meat is cooked to perfection. - Simon, the owner is a great lad. Will be back for sure !

Really good food. My son's favourite (curry) was best ever. Also the fajitas and the alitas were really good. The owner, Simon, is super professional and his dog is awesome. My family had a perfect dinner there. I do recommend it!

I was riding by on a weekday and noticed they were open for lunch. They had a Portuguese lunch special with pork and it was surprisingly good. They have a new chef and it has really improved the food. I've been back a few more times for lunch and it has been very good each time. Out back they have tables with umbrellas, a shaded porch with tables, and some inside. In the winter they have a large tent to make the outdoor dining more comfortable. They have a nice lager on draft. This bar is just outside the gates to Óbidos but it does not feel touristy at all. Laid back, comfortable and casual. if you're driving you can park at the dusty aqueduct parking lot adjacent or if you're on a bike just ride it in. It was not crowded when I came on a weekday but when they have a band it can get crowded. If you're looking for a casual hangout spot Rex is it.

Great relaxed atmosphere, especially outside where there are tons of tables with umbrella shade. Owner has a nice dog that walks around a bit. Steaks we had were great, drinks were solid. Would go back if I'm ever visiting Obidos again

Terrific food and delightful staff. A highly recommended place to eat. Our shared jug of (cold) minty drink was refreshing, and my salad was beautifully presented.

We had a great late lunch. The salad was fabulous and the speciality curry was delicious and the lemon mint homemade iced tea was the perfect refreshment on a hot day. This restaurant is a few steps from the castle. The owner was friendly, welcoming and accommodating! We’d go back in a minute.

This is THE place for a fantastic burger and beer!! The owner is super nice, the service was amazing. And the outdoor seating area was wonderful. Check this out for lunch or dinner before or after the castle!

Calling this place a gastropub is pushing it, since the only really exotic thing on the menu is the curry - which, thankfully, is excellent. The pizza is only a slight step up from the shop-bought variety. Service was well-intentioned but a bit of a comedy of errors. We visited on a Monday night and the place was dead, so I can't comment on the atmosphere of the place.

We were lucky to have the owner taking care of us and to have a delicious and relaxing dinner. We ordered the Carbonara, Beef Curry and Marguerite and Pepperoni pizza. Everything was fantastic and on point. For sure a place we recommend and will come back soon.

The owner was so friendly and helpful - a real treat! We watched rugby World Cup and enjoyed some local live music. Would highly recommend! Family friendly. Pet friendly.

Rex bar was a great surprise outside of this quaint medieval town! It’s a better option than the touristy joints inside the walls. They offer great Belgian beers and delicious foods! We had curry and craft beers. It was so delicious! Can’t recommend enough!

We had the chicken curry and shrimp linguine and both were fantastic. The chef is Nepalese so the curry is legit. Tons of outside seating, relaxed vibe. Would definitely return!

Great burger! The owner is so attentive and friendly. Awesome beer selection and the cute dog was a plus. Wonderful outdoor seating to enjoy an afternoon for sure.

Fantastic afternoon hang-out spot. Beers, wine, amazing food. Huge beer garden out back with plenty of seating. Americans come here if you don’t like the pre-dinner closures elsewhere around Portugal. Get pre-dinner drinks, enjoy the afternoon overlooking the aqueduct just outside the city walls.

Amazing place! Friendly and cozy. A lot of outside side space giving you the opportunity to park your bike in front. Recommend all mortars a pit stop😜.

Simon is great. Very friendly and accommodating for special food needs. Buddy the bar dog is friendly and always looking for someone to pet him. The beers are awesome, actually have craft beers. Right next to the aquaduct.

We stopped by this place as it was one of the only places open on our way to Peniche. Buddy immediately greeted us and was a wonderful host throughout. Our food came out quickly and was delicious! At the end of our meal, Simon came over and we shared a lovely conversation with him. Love this place and wish I could come back as often as I wanted.

Great place to stop by! Kitchen is open through all operating hours - so you don’t have to worry about missing lunch during siesta. Owner is a great guy and his dog is wonderful company especially if you order fries. Would love to come back and have a drink in the beer garden during the busy season. Plenty of outdoor space and lots of nearby parking

Stopped here for a late lunch. They’re open throughout the afternoon unlike most places in Obidos! We had some great food. We got the burger with carmelized onions, chicken wings, garlic bread, and chicken with egg and salad platter. We had so much food, great portions plus nice cold sodas with ice and lemon. All came out to €30 euros total which is a STEAL! The vibe is an outdoor beer garden but they also have indoor seating as well. Highly recommend coming here whether it’s for lunch, a beer, or to say hi to the sweet dog Buddy :) Simon was super nice and friendly. It was great speaking with him. Thank you so much!
