Must visit if you are a fan of Le Corbusier. I visited on a Sunday and did not need to book a tour to access the building which was what I had thought from the website. I think they allow access everyday now, but could be worth checking before visiting. It was free. You may access a few floors, The rooftop and get a coffee or food at the hotel that has a cafe or buy an architecture book at the book shop. The place is fantastic in real life and has really been taken care of and appreciated by the Commune which I find often rare. Highly recommend.

Amazing building by Le Corbusier just off the city center. You can book a tour through the Marseille Tourist Office (15€ in January 2023) where you'll be able to visit one of the apartments as well as the public areas of the building. If not, you can register at the entry and visit the 3rd, 4th and 9th (rooftop) floors. There is a restaurant/entry to the Hotel Le Corbusier on the 3rd floor. Recommended for architecture enthusiasts.

This was a very cool thing to visit. It's so interesting how this apartment complex is built. It's like a city. It has stores, banks, hotels and restaurants. It's a very unique look at an abnormal way to live. You can visit the 3rd, 4th and the rooftop for free.

Did not have the chance to go inside. However, just admiring the exterior and reading on the internet was sufficient to appreciate the work done here. The habitation bar has a very brutalist style with its fully concrete structure. Yet, the addition of the colour plates makes this much more sympathetic and alive than it would otherwise be.

(Translated by Google) Too disappointed with the hotel. It is good to keep in its own juice as they say, but this is a bit too! Run down and not very clean. Catastrophic bedding. Shabby breakfast. Only positive point the view from the roof (Original) Trop déçu par l hôtel. C est bien de garder dans son jus comme ils disent ,mais là c est un peu Trop!vétuste et pas très propre. Literie catastrophique. Petit dej miteux. Seul point positif la vue du toit

Lovely experience. We went on a sunday. The 3-4 and 9th floor were open, as well as the bar. I definitely recommend to drink something at the 3rd floor and enjoy the view to the city. The only thing I disliked on the 9th floor (rooftop) is that small people can’t see anything. The walls are too high!!

Visiting a building by Le Corbusier is always a treat. In this case there were a few let downs. The third floor is the 'shopping area'. You can't really get an idea on how living there really looks like. On the roof there is a restriction on visiting some interesting areas....

(Translated by Google) The radiant city is one of the demonstrations of the genius of Le Corbusier. This building is a real citadel "to live". Here everything is grouped together housing, shops but also doctors' offices, nursery school and daycare, architectural firms. The place is in superb condition and the building is still used in the same way as Le Corbusier wanted. The view over Marseille on the 9th floor is magnificent. A guided tour is possible but also a free visit. The advantage of the guided tour is that you can see a show apartment. I really enjoyed this place, I would have liked to buy a book from the bookstore but the price was quite substantial. The people at the reception were pleasant and welcoming. And the safety rules are well respected. I advise recommend to visit this place.

In addition, next to it, the Magalone garden for splashing around in the fountain (again, if everyone is at the beach). A museum is upstairs but closed the 2 times I have been there. The loose of the lawn .. (Original) Appréciable quand il y a personne (aka touristes) pour se prélasser à l'ombre du béton et observer le ciel bleu, généralement. Great architecture and concept from Le Corbusier. He thought of everything for the inhabitants of this building: art, outdoor play, childcare, work etc. Check out the balcony at the Le Corbusier hotel! Did you know that De Bijlmer in Amsterdam was inspired on this?

It's an absolutely wonderful attempt at Le Corbusier's genius. A utopian idea that he was able to realize and the building is still standing and functioning 80 years after its design and manages to impress and take your breath away

If you are interested into architecture - its a must! The building is incredible. We didn’t manage to get a guided tour - that requires booking in advance. But even without you can see the building from outside, visit the lobby, floor no 3,4 and the roof top - incredible view!

This landmark building is an architectural lesson by itself; from the abstract concrete volumes to the smallest woodwork detail, it conveys modernism in its purest form. There's also a coffee shop with a terrace on the 3rd floor.

  • 5/5 Vladimir G. 1 year ago on Google
Went by car, found a place to park easily on the parking of the building. It is wonderful to see it if you have the time, but it is not a must. We spent around ten minutes analyzing and taking photos and that's it. Still, nice to pay respect to such an art piece.

As a lover of brutalism and mid century modernism this was a pilgrimage for me, to visit one of Le Corbusier's triumphs. Though shunned when first designed and built, it is now an absolute gem. Genius can take a long time to be recognised. I will add many more photos to this when I get home and get my camera photos downloaded. Now the building is a French National Monument it gets the respect and support it deserves. We booked a tour named Cite Radieuse with the Marseille City Tourist Office. It was in French, so some of the more detailed bits were hard to.understand but we were given a printed guide and our tour guide took the time to explain some things to us. Her name was Camille and she was fantastic. You start outside with some background about Le Corbusier and a history of the building. Then it's inside where the guide picks out some architectural details, perfect for the photographer. Then it's up to a tour of an apartment that's been kept in the original 1950s style. Wow!! There were so many individual design details that were incredible, from the kitchen area, to the staircase, the shower was like on a spacecraft! The radiators underneath the loggia by the balcony doors. Bookcases built into the wall, storage areas, the flow of the apartment from sleeping area to play area. Breath taking design. Then it's around the commercial areas, with beautiful corridors, everything having its place, with more beautifully aesthetic design touches that had form, function and restraint. Finally we were taken to the roof, and shown the children's playground, the running track around the edge, the exhibition space and the mini open air theatre. The views were incredible too. This was one of the most incredible tours I've ever taken. Yes, I love the subject, but the guide still had to make it a worthwhile experience and at this, she excelled. Frankly, a life enhancing tour. I'm still smiling several hours later.

I understand this is a masterpiece that made a difference in the history of architecture. However, as hard as I try, I can’t get to like this type of buildings. Consider that it is a bit out of the way from most attractions in Marseille, and all you can see is the façade, as it’s an apartment building.

Piece of art on housing for present and future. Very well modeled on how we can efficiently use a piece of land to build a community based living. Everything in one place, such a relief to live here without getting out in the traffic to drop off kids or enjoy a cup of coffee or meal with your loved ones. Hopefully the future developers implement this great idea to spread the modern architecture

A real must visit if in Marseille, or indeed if you just care about or like buildings and the contexts in which they get made and by whom. We tend to know more about the architect in question here, than those who carried out his vision. I didn't take a detailed guide although I'm sure the construction history is also fascinating. The building itself is a joy to be in. Every angle reveals something new. Oh and after all that exploring, a visit to the cafe is most definitely in order. On a mid week afternoon we had it practically to ourselves.

(Translated by Google) The experience of visiting, seeing live, walking and appreciating one of the most important works of Le Corbusier and therefore of the history of architecture, is wonderful. However, its conservation status is marked, like that of almost all the works that I have visited by this architect in France. It is a shame that architecture is judged by the life of the author and not by its importance and genius. Sad to see the state of doors, corridors, large windows and the abandonment of its large garden terrace. I love France, I admire it and yet once again it disappoints me and it has always been about Le Corbusier.
