You can reach this destination from the old port by taking the public boat, which costs approximately 12 euros for a round trip. The boat departs every 45 minutes. Once you arrive on the island, there is an additional entrance fee of 6 euros to access the castle. Inside the castle, you'll find a charming restaurant. The castle itself offers pleasant views and includes some intriguing old prison rooms.

I'm very glad I got to visit. The previous days the winds prevented us from going on this trip. Finally on Sunday, we got up early and made our way to the ferry to try and buy tickets. FYI, the ferry won't open until like 8:30 so no point being there earlier. The island itself is amazing. If you've watched the movie the count of Monte Cristo, or read the book, you'll love this place. They have a great little souvenir shop as well, although there's no food sold there so bring your own.

Met my best friend while I was staying here. Nice old man with a treasure map! But watch out for the guy that runs the place, he's a jerk. Must try the rats, they're delicious! Also trying to leave can be difficult.

Was interesting to visit the place about which read the book and saw so many times in the movie when I was a kid. You can get there with the boat from Marseille. Will spend near 2 hours for such small trip, but is a nice experience.

A must to visit landmark in Marseille. You will have to pay a ticket for the entrance. Small brochures with some information about the Chateau d'If are available in many languages. There is a small souvenir shop inside the castle. The highest tower is a nice place to reach. Firstly, for the pictures you can take from there. Secondly, you may discover an interesting acoustic system: if you stay exactly in the center of the tower, you will hear almost only your voice; it was really funny.

Reading allows you to travel within the story your reading. I read about this many years ago. I was in the neighbourhood. Someone does not manage resources well at all. FERRIES picks you up & drops you off. You pay the ferry for the ferry ride. Then you arrive at Château d'If and stand in line and buy an entrance ticket for €6.00 euro. It appeared to have about 5 employees but only one sold the tickets. I would have the ferry company sell tickets, fire 4 people and put a person with a counter clicker at the dock and thus verify the tickets sold per day. You could pay them 0.20 to 0.30 euro per ticket sold. Big savings on personnel. The Château d'If was worth every penny to me. From the first time I read the book I wanted to see it, visit it. The movie sealed the deal.

Just a 20 minute boat trip. You need to have some imagination but it is a nice place to visit! You have beautiful views from the towers.

Beautiful place to visit away from the hustle and bustle of Marseille. Interesting history, well explained in the castle. There is a restaurant and toilets and fabulous views and peace. We absolutely loved our day out here and unexpectedly spent 4 hours there! Great value for money.

It is the famous prison of the novel written by Alexandre Dumas about the "Count of Monte Christo" dealing with desire, revange and betrayal. You go there by ship from Marseille, old harbor. It costs 11 Euro for an adult. Absolutely recommendable.

Interesting castle with an intriguing Count of Monte Christo back story. Important to get your ferry timings right. First boat of the day is best. The castle is quite small so it is only an hour or so to look around. But loads of information boards (with some sections in English).

A must visit If you are spending the day in Marseille. It cost a family of 5 approx 60€ to go to both islands and the pass lasts the whole day. once on Chataeu D'If you pay an entrance free (under 18 years is free) and approx 10€ per adult. This allows you to go into the prison area. It is also where they filmed the famous movie The Count of Monte Cristo. Beautiful sites of Marseille and the Mediterranean sea. A public toilet was very clean. A restaurant on the island was well priced with simple but yummy food as well as ice cream and coffee

Nice bastion island to visit! We took a ferry around 15mins, to get to the island where you get some time to visit the fort. The waters can be pretty rough, so beware if you’re seasick. It is also recommended to check the timetable for depart times of the ferry. It was only 11 euros for adults for a round trip, so quite worth the visit!

This is one of the must see places in Marseilles, especially if you are a Alexander Dumas fan. Even otherwise, the boat ride up to the château from the old port of Marseilles is about 20 mins each way, the views are absolutely spectacular, both of the old port and the chateau and the city seen from the sea! Make sure you take the boat ride giving yourself enough time if you wanted to get off and then make it back before the last boat ride back from the château. You can catch spectacular views clear up to the Notre-Dame de la Garde from the ride to or back from the château. If your are pressed on time, you also have the option of just the boat ride around the château and back without getting off at the château. Definitely worth it and quite enjoyable especially on a sunny afternoon or evening.

A great day trip. Boat ride is fun, the castle has a lot of history and fiction around it. Bring lunch, the island is a pleasant place to explore, with WW2 gun emplacements still visible, and a light house.

(Translated by Google) A very interesting island that can be easily reached by boat from Marseille, there is even a small, fine restaurant with a small snack and cool drinks, but you shouldn't come to the island with hiheels, as seen, there are more or less major problems as the path is usually very rocky. The visit is very interesting because there are also personalities there a lot of time have spent. The Count of Monte Christo or the man with the iron mask.

The Chateaux is well worth a visit, and is only a 20 minute boat trip from Marseille. Entry is free for EU citizens. The rooms inside the fortress aren't anything special, but it's still interesting, and the island is a good way to spend 90 minutes or so. There is a cafe, gift shop and toilets on the island.

Like a Historical Journal. The Château d'If is a fortress located on the Île d'If, the smallest island in the Frioul archipelago, situated about 1.5 kilometres offshore from Marseille in southeastern France. Built in the 16th century, it later served as a prison until the end of the 19th century

Beautiful building which was originally a fort to defend the entrance to the bay of Marseille, then transformed into a prison.
