The decision to build the monument was made in 1919 and a competition was opened in late 1920. Of around forty submissions, the jury selected Camille Raynaud's project, ahead of those by Henri-Raphaël Moncassin and André Abbal; The city of Toulouse, however, decided to associate the three authors in the final realization, under the supervision of the architect Léon Jaussely. The work was not completed until 1928, and Raynaud's bas-reliefs were not finally completed until 1931. The cost of the monument amounted to 1,349,540 francs. The war memorial is listed as a historical monument on October 18, 2018. It is part of a set of 42 monuments to the dead in the Occitania region protected to date for their architectural, artistic or historical value (such as the archer of Heracles and the monument to the dead in the districts of Bayard, Matabiau, Concorde and Chalets, also in Toulouse).

This memorial monument, in addition to being beautiful, has a large grassy area that serves as a ribbon park, very suitable for outdoor activities. It was recently restored, showing all its beauty. For those who are in the central area and want to go to the Botanical Gardens on foot, it is a great route option. To get here, there is the metro which has the François-Verdier station (yellow line) right in front.

War memorial, located close to the metro station François-Verdier. The memorial has murals depicting faces of soldiers and their family members. It is a reminder of human sacrifice. You can see it while having a stroll in the Boulevard.

Magnificent war memorial to the men of the Haute-Garonne department lost during the Great War. This impressive monument is in an imposing position in between the Allées Forain-François Verdier and the Boulevard Lazare Carnot. It can be accessed directly from the François Verdier metro station.

Relocation of the monument to create the new metro line which will be connected to the existing metro lines. Colossal work which will last 4 years...to reposition the monument where it was.
