The
construction
of
the
church
began
in
1602
and
the
Carthusian
brothers,
expelled
from
the
charterhouse
Notre-Dame
de
Bellevue
in
Saïx
(near
Castres)
by
the
Protestants,
decided
to
build
a
monastery
sheltered
by
the
walls
of
Toulouse.
After
the
fall
of
the
first
dome
in
1609,
the
building
was
erected.
The
church
was
consecrated
by
Cardinal
François
de
Sourdis
on
May
20,
1612.
After
the
Revolution,
the
monks
were
expelled
and
the
convent
was
transformed
into
an
arsenal.
All
that
remains
today
is
the
church,
the
former
pharmacy,
elements
of
the
monastery
(including
a
notable
brick
exterior
corridor)
and
part
of
the
cloister.
In
2001,
the
shock
wave
from
the
AZF
factory
explosion
in
the
south
of
the
city
shook
the
church
walls,
forcing
reinforcement
work
to
be
carried
out.
Some
superficial
cracks
due
to
this
episode
are
still
visible.
In
September
2007,
the
parish
of
Saint-Pierre
was
integrated
into
the
parish
of
Saint-Sernin
and
the
church
of
Saint-Pierre
became
the
seat
of
the
student
parish
of
Toulouse.
