The cave was interesting to see but unfortunately thats the only thing you can do there; watch. Thats because the guide only spoke French. He told his (few French) listeners a LOT of information and the rest of the visitors just had to stand still for a large amount of time. We were offered a piece of paper with a small amount of information in a bad translation that didn'tmake much sense in Dutch! And that while we pay the same amount of money as the people who do speak French... It doesn't feel fair nor hospitable! Why not only speak English? Or perhaps two SHORT summaries in French and English?

Unfortunately our guide Oliver was very rude and completely ruined the experience for me and my family. We don't speak very good french, and the first we knew about the rules to not take any pictures in the cave was Oliver waving a torch in my face and shouting at me in front of all the other guests. I asked him if he could speak English so I could understand what was happening and he threatened to throw me out. He said he had told everyone earlier, but I simply hadn't understood the French. There are ways of dealing with these situations and he clearly showed he didn't know how. I then went to the tourist info after the tour to put in my grievances regarding Oliver's aggressive behaviour, he was there and he proceeded to do the same thing, in front of the whole shop and told me he didn't respect me. I was trying to explain to him I hadn't understood and would be happy to follow the rules if I knew. But he wasn't interested. The ladies who work in the tourism office were very good, polite and witnessed the whole thing. They took my complaint in writing and both apologised. Both of them were very professional. I think Oliver needs to go on a customer service Course. My reply to the comments below:- Unfortunately it isn't clear about not taking photos in the cave, and this is the first cave I have been to in this area. I hope you can take this valuable feedback. And I really didn't hear any comments from Oliver until he was being very rude and aggressive. I feel that at no point I should have been shouted at, as one of your most experienced guides I would hope he would have a better understanding of how to deal with people. Oliver could have just had a quick chat to me to see if I understood, then I would have been happy to comply. I have already logged a complaint with the tourist office and await an official reply via them. I also don't understand why he would then continue to shout at me in the tourist office after the initial incident. I didn't raise my voice at him, you can ask your team in the shop. I genuinely hope my comments can help you improve your customer service for future visitors.

Outstanding visit to the Grotte de Domme , we thoroughly enjoyed our visit through the caves, unfortunately you weren't allowed to take photos. Our Irish tour guide was fantastic and curated the tour in both french and English. Well worth a visit!

The caves are accessed from the village square by 45 minutes guided tours (most in French, but some in English) that leave every 15 minutes or so. The caves themselves are maybe not the biggest in the world but there's plenty to see, and the fact they are directly under a beautiful medieval village makes them well worth visiting. Photos are not allowed in the caves, which means that everyone actually looks at everything with their own eyes rather than on a tiny glowing screen. It also means they don't have to wait for everyone in the group to get their own photo of each cave or each stalactite, which is a plus.

Really a wonderful cave. No pictographs but awesome stalactites and stalagmites. So beautiful. An awesome creation. Our guide, Remi’ was really good. Interesting facts and observations. Very good rapport with the group. Adds to the list of good reasons to visit Domme

Incredible limestone caves which are quite different from the others in the region since you feel like you are part of the cave as you walk though all the thousands of stalactites & stalagmites of different sizes and forms that is left to our imagination. Rémi was an exceptional guide, he was natural, full of information and humour. He was eager to receive and answer questions. Of course it was completely in French. Perhaps it may be better to organise one or two hours in the day in English to help the foreigners. Photography and touching the cave structures is prohibited since the cave is starting to be damaged with external spores brought in by humans. There was bat dropping in the water, so don't touch the water either. They have interesting events in the caves on certain days for adults and children. I will definitely come to caves even if it is to listen to Rémi again :).

Beautiful panoramic viewpoint after pleasant walk up through the hilltop village. An ice cream and a little train ride caps this lovely tourist highlight. Lots of parking. Recommended.

Buy your tickets at the tourism office and take the guided tour of the grotto and here you will ses lits of stalactites and stalagmites. The guide was very knowledgeable - but you’ll need to speak French to fully understand. Interesting tour - but you’re not allowed to take photos inside! Not suitable for visitors with mobility issues as there are lots of steps in the grotto.

Very impressive + we'll worth a visit. Tour guide was great, brochure provided in English but he translated most things that he was explaining.

If you're going to visit just one cave of beautiful stalactites and stalagmites in the Dordogne region, this is probably not the one for you. But if you've already seen some of the more glorious exhibits in the area, visit Grotte de Domme for: * Some interesting crystallised columns. * A swift 45-minute tour that won't take up a whole day. * Because it's in the centre of the beautiful village of Domme, with its gorgeous views over the Dordogne river. On our visit, the tour itself was not great: in quite technical French language only, the guide spoke limited English and even though there were several English-speaking families in the group, no support was provided, not even the English language printed guide which I later found out would have been available. Instead the guide spoke mostly to the two or three people at the front of the group, who effectively had a private tour, while people at the back of the group could not hear nor hardly see since the lights were switched off as we went through. That said, no regrets for €9 pp.

It's a brilliant tourist office! The caves are an outstanding visit and it is an absolute must to go visit it if you have the time in the Bastide ! The same goes for the lovely staff who are there if you need any information!

Unfortunately the guide apparently did not speak English, while 1/4th of the group was from outside of France. The poorly translated information guide was absolutely not enough to compensate for this. Not worth the money at all when you’re not fluent in French.

If you’ve never been in a cave before and really feel the need, or you simply have to do something that doesn’t involve rowing down the Dordogne, fair enough, but other than that don’t bother. As an English speaker the notes are pathetic and the guide makes no attempt to communicate to Brits/Dutch etc - though finds a huge amount to say in French. The caves are just not good enough and I think is only popular as there isn’t huge amounts of non castle/river things to do. Sorry.

Nice grotte. And we were lucky to have the first guided tour in the morning with only a few people. The guide did a good job.

Very nice cave, well preserved geologic formations. Guide is nice but rather inexperienced. The shop at the end of the visit is very well stocked!

The most stalactites and stalagmites I've seen in one cave. This is a relatively small cave, but the quantity of stalactites and stalagmites in such a short system is quite amazing. There was an English translation, and the tour guide also spoke some English while pointing out some interesting geological formations. Well worth the forty-five minutes and money.

Really great cave - amazing stalactites/mites and brilliant access in middle of town. Definitely worth doing if visiting Domme. Only reason for 3 stars is the lack of info in English, although I’d read previous reviews and knew this would be the case - still worth a visit though!

Very impressive... The guide was particularly patient and joked with our 4 yo kid, captivating him and allowing us to enjoy the experience more at the same time. Great experience.

Small cave system but easily accessed from the middle of town which makes it easy to fit in with other sightseeing in the town. The external lift from the exit back up to street level is a nice touch.

This place is a little gem! Domme has probably the best view in the Dordogne region. Seeing is believing! There are restaurants, bars, shops selling local produce and even a 'train' ride. Stanley Kubrick used to holiday here and his family still own the property. This place is not to be missed!

Beautiful cave and nice guide. However it was too fast. Sometimes I wanted to appreciate a bit more and dont be in a hurry all the time. In the end you see a beautiful lightshow. Sadly a lot of people are egoistic enough to destroy the cave to have some souvenir for themself. As a result you see a lot of destroyed stalactites.

Very beautiful cave. Too bad the tour is only in French. ( the only information in other languages is on a piece of paper..which is may less than the guide tells the group!) We had the pleasure of a dog in our group..this animal smelled horrible..please do not let these animals enter with a group! )

Nice, compact little cave formation. Tour lasts about an hour. Free entry to the museum afterwards. Lovely little town.

Interesting tour, the cave is worth the visit. Unfortunately the tour is not available in English and you get an A4 leaflet with some basic descriptions but it's nowhere near the level of information provided in French verbally. An English tour at least once a day would be an awesome addition!
