Wow wow wow this place!! We started our hike up at around 2:30/3am. It took us a little bit under 2 hours to reach the top. We waited for the sunset while our guide offered us a breakfast box with some snacks and coffee. The hike to the top is all uphill and rocky so wear hiking shoes and it gets pretty chilly at the top so get a jacket and wear long pants or leggings. The hike was a loop which was great because after sunrise the views and the hike back was absolutely stunning!! We stopped every now and then to absorb the beauty of the place and see parts of the mountain where volcanic steam comes out! Really beautiful and an amazing experience. We had a car and driver take us to Mount Batur and then another tour guide who hiked up with us. We drive from Ubud to Mount Batur which was around an hour drive. Our driver Gade was really great. Really informative and also takes people all around Bali. I really really highly recommend him. If anyone needs a ride there his WhatsApp number is: +62 819-9988-0856 Our tour guide’s name is Wayan. Very nice guy and his English was great so we chatted during the hike and he was also very informative. Really recommend this hike. It was stunning and worth the early morning rise and uphill trek!

Was a great hike a bit tiring for an overweight person as I am but overall worth it. We went for the sunrise very early wake up and hike. Amazing view, great sunrise. Totally worth it for the view.

Most beautiful adventure in Bali Challenging yet amazingly gorgeous!!! We hike pickups by our tour guide at 2.30 am. . They take us up. At 3.am arrive at the top around 5.15 am waiting for the sunrise.. It's just wonderful ✨😍

More difficult trail to the top, because of volcano rocks. Needed hiking shoes and if you coming on sunset and early hours, is better to get guide. From the parking that takes 2-2,5 hour, depends on speed. Very lovely view 🌅.

Difficult early morning trek. Not possible to keep up with the military speed. I took a mountain bike ride near to the summit. From there 15 minutes steep climb. Worth the effort amazing views.

Amazing view, hard climb. 100% worth it. Sunrise was beautiful, the volcano above is active and guide cooked food for us in volcano steam. Recommend guided and take jeep or motor bike tour if you think you can't make the hike. Trail is not maintained very difficult on foot. Monkeys at top are friendlier than the one's at the monkey forest, still don't touch them though. It was a relaxed atmosphere with tons of people getting those great shots for social media, love this hike definitely recommend for the avid adventure seeker. Bring plenty of water which is a must anywhere you go in Bali. There are several locals selling snacks and drinks at the top. The guides tour we took included headlamps, hike guide, food at top, then a driver for 8 hours to take us to the hot springs and coffee plantation as well. Must do a package to get an amazing deal. Loved it!

Great hike but gotta start pretty early in the morning if you wanna catch the amazing sunrise. Would definitely recommend this hike to the summit. Just be aware that there are moneys at the top so don’t leave things unattended.

It was quite an adventurous experience..we trekked up to the mountain right from the start but there are options like keep halfway and then trek up..if you are not a regular trekker you should consider this option since it’s a quite a trek if you have to reach before sunrise

One of the mountains that must be visited. it takes 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the top of Mount Batur. the terrain is quite uphill and sandy. very suitable for beginner climbers. there you can enjoy the sunrise which is really very beautiful and in the distance you can see several other mountains such as Mount Rinjani and Mount Agung. In addition, there is a hot spring that can be seen emerging from the crater.

Had been here for an early morning sunrise trek, which began with pick-up from my hotel at around 1 AM, and the trek started at 3 AM with a local registered trekking expert. Not a very difficult trek, it is about 2 to 2.5 hrs. uphill, and a bit lesser when descending. Although it will be super cold, be prepared to sweat a lot, and have the best exercise of your life. The last ten minutes are quite steep & it was dark, and drizzling. Unfortunately, could not get to see the sunrise due to weather, but totally worth doing this trek.

Tough hike because it’s always steep! Wear tennis shoes and be prepared for the best sunrise✨ I went February and even though rainy season I had an amazing sunrise (not same for everyone because it can be cloudy) anyways worth it for a great exercise. 600k trekking tour (without jeep)

Beautiful sunrise 🌅. Fine trip around 6km. 3km to top. It’s not hard hike for anyone who does some walking. Time of the hike is between 40min-1:45. View on the top depends on weather. In this season were there around 200 people. So you will be not alone. Trip with guide cost around 500.000 IDR per person. He lend you head flashlight, take some water and make you breakfast on the top. You can catch dirt bike taxi, if you’re not up to hike. For me, I rather go on foot than with crazy bikers 😵‍💫 Enjoy 😉

Wow I thought this hike was just to see the viewpoint at the top & go back down. We booked with Instagram account @mountbaturvolcano_ It was really organized. Gave us a whole schedule for the day. We got picked up, Breakfast, coffee, water, headlamps. Guide knew all the best photo spots. Taught us all about the volcano & the craters. Helped us through all the tough spots. I would highly recommend!! The views within the craters & the volcanic steam was so surreal! The way down is actually the most beautiful part. There’s monkeys & dogs that live up there. Bring: Sweater, sweatpants for at the top, wear dark shoes bc there’s a lot of dirt.

One of the best sunrise that one would experience. To best experience it, and make it even more worthy, try to do the full trek. It's just sheer fun and a trek of moderate difficulty. Be on time to ensure you see the complete sunrise. This is one place you shouldn't miss when you are in Bali. While Bali is known for its sunset spots, go here for the sunrise!

Absolutely stunning views, and some really interesting facts about the mountain which took me by surprise. Me and my partner did the sunrise hike, I would say that it is reasonably challenging as the conditions underfoot are unstable and a bit slippery but more than manageable if you are relatively fit. The way up is steep, and as you ascend it does get pretty cold, so make sure to bring a jumper with you because when you stop at the top you will cool down. The views from the top are breath taking, and if you are lucky to get a cloud free sunrise it is beautiful. We hiked the long way round and back, checking out the hot steam coming out of the active volcano, saw the black lava flow and temple. I would recommend.

We did the sunrise trek to Mount Batur- we booked our hike through a random guy near our hotel- u can do the same They pick u from d hotel at 2.30-3am- reach base camp at 4am Its a 2 hour trek to d top- steep, stony climbs. We almost gave up a few times while climbing- it is difficult for beginners But when u reach d summit, and watch the sunrise- all the effort is worth it Points to remember- Wear good trekking shoes Carry energy/protein bars for instant energy Carry lots of water The breakfast they provide is not sufficient, so carry something to eat, ull need it wen u reach d top Carry a jacket without fail- its freezing on the top Take ur time and do the trek at ur pace- no need to hurry- ull always have a guide with u-so u wont get lost Highly recommended experience

Having had the Mt Batur experience, I find some reviews here inaccurate. Especially for beginners or people who are unfit (like me), this was not easy. The pathways are rocky and inclines are steep. There are three checkpoints in total and having made past only the first one, I ordered a dirt bike (IDR300K) for the rest of the trip up. I felt really bad for this, as many dirt bike rides were ordered and clearly disruptive to those trekking up completely by foot. From the last checkpoint, it was 10 minutes walk to the summit (probably the hardest part of it all cause the ground was even more slippery and uneven). It’s chilly at the top, for those with low tolerance, a sweater top may not be sufficient. The hike down to starting point was equally difficult (a few hikers badly injured on the route) but it was more enjoyable when the sun is up (you also realise that you could have died hiking up in the dark if a wrong slip or bad footing was made). The view was great and I’m glad I take with me this experience now, although I would never do it again. (We booked this via @visitmountbaturbali on Instagram. You can pick the package you prefer.)

One of the highlights of our stay in bali. It was about a 2 hour hike to the top and we started around 2am in the morning in hopes of catching the sunrise from the top. The climb to the top was moderately challenging but it can be done by anyone as long as they take time and exercise caution (it can be slippery and narrow at some points!) Once you reach the top, you would see some breathtaking views of the mountain ranges, lakes as well as the valleys down below, well worth the hours of climb. Would recommend taking a guide with you as they know the way and can easily navigate your way through. The crowd slowly builds up as the day progresses so recommend to start early and finsih early.(we finished the entire loop by about 11 am!). Overall it was an unforgettable experience!

If you are interested in hiking and visiting Bali, then this is one of the best place that I could suggest in Bali for hiking to start this hiking, you need to start from morning 3 AM and the hiking will start at 4 AM from the base camp you if you are not a local villager, then you need to hire a guide to do this hiking. For hiring a guide, then you need to pay 400k for the local guide and also you need to pay some extra for the whole . Mount Batur hiking they will provide you with breakfast and also accompany you throughout the whole hiking I found this hiking, little expensive because even if you are not that experienced, guide is not required as per me, but they won’t let you in without a guide

Absolutely stunning from the top!! Takes about 1.5-2 hrs up, it’s quite steep, and very dark if you do the sunrise hike (guides should give you a flashlight but make sure you have good shoes!) Unfortunately the hike up is just 1 long single file queue the whole way, so you can’t really go at your own pace (you can slow down, but there’s no way to pass going up to speed yourself up) I was quite surprised to find monkeys at the top to join for breakfast!!

If going up Mt Batur, be careful what package you buy. Hiking is fine, but at 2am? Not recommended. I took a jeep up and down, and the ride was thrilling, but enjoyable. The drivers are all very friendly and skilled. Sunrise was beautiful and worth it. Great experience but once is enough. The place was fairly peaceful and quiet, about 30 people spread across a fairly large area.

Myself and 3 of my friends booked the Mt Batur sunrise trekking tour through a local company for 400k each. We were picked up from our hotel at 2am, made our way to the volcano, ate fried bananas then we started the trek. It was a beautiful hike that was challenging at times but 100% recommend doing it! We made it to the top just in time for sunrise and it was so beautiful. People ate their provided food at the summit, enjoyed the sunrise and explored then we made the trek back to base. Definitely recommend bringing a guide as there are people who are aggressive if people don’t have guides and the tracks could get confusing. 10/10!!

Amazing experience & totally worth it. My partner and i haven’t been on a hike in a little while so it was definitely challenging but we loved it. The view was breathtaking! The guides we had were so nice and friendly. We had an amazing time and were so proud of making it to the top. Must activity to do if you come to Bali. good to know: if you have vertigo, it is possible but just know that the last 20 minutes, the path is a bit dangerous and there is nothing to hold on to really. Can be a little bit scary for some people. Bring a jacket/sweater because it is pretty cold when you get to the top! Also, bring a couple snacks because the snacks they offer don’t look so good.

Departs early in the morning. I couldn't sleep the night before, but I was able to reach the summit. There are many guides, so it's reassuring. If there are people who are unsure about mountain climbing, they should climb it.

  • 5/5 Gerald L. 1 year ago on Google
This was a relatively easy hike compared to other mountain hikes. The path was mostly rocks and gravel with a few steeper portions. Hiking typically starts at 3.30am if you are doing a sunrise hike and take about 1.5-2 hours depending on rest times and fitness levels. The guides that bring you up usually provide flashlight and water so you need not worry about that. The sunrise clarity depends on the cloud cover and you just have to wish you have the luck of getting a clear view. Highly recommend to go at least once. I suggest getting your guide to bring you around the crater too because the best views were along that path.

Beautiful sun rise. Booked thru klook and per pax about $70. Pick up from hotel around 4am depend on location pick up. Include simple breakfast. Worth it, very Beautiful view, wear warm clothing

The third tallest mountain in Bali, 1717meters. Highly recommended and try the klook private tour. Around 700,000 idr per person for 4 people tour. You'd better wearing a pair of proper trekking shoes. I climbed with normal running shoes, quite slippery. Because, the way you go up isn't easy. Not paved at all. But the descending path is ok. Nonetheless, better wearing trekking shoes. Better check the weather and the sunrise time! Highly recommended..

Really enjoyed myself here for the jeep ride up. It was really cold so will be good to wear a jacket/ long pants. Jeep ride up was a little bumpy but it’s fun. We reached the peak at around 5ish am and the driver will serve you breakfast that includes coffee/tea/hot chocolate, banana spread bread, hard boiled eggs and some snacks. We got our package through Klook and I strongly recommend it.

DO the sunrise hike!🌋 It's not hard, if being in a good condition. Otherwise the guide (a group consists of max 5 people per guide) helps and supports you on the way up (~2,5 km distance one way; 800 meters in height). The way is good when having good shoes. Do not go with loose footwear. The hike take approx 2,5 hours to the top, where you get a really nice view 🌄 The way back is another, much easier route, where you have at one point the opportunity to take a Scooter back to the starting point. Definitely do, it's really worth the money (~39 SDG per Pax). Can recommend booking the tour with KLOOK !!!!!

Good hiking for a beginner and vacation hikers. When the cloud are gone, the panorama here is really majestic! Unforgettable experience.

The view from mount batur is so worth the hike, even though it was a little rough for someone who doesn't usually do this. Our guide, Nova, was really funny and took care of us on our way to the top. We also got the chance to meet very nice people. The sunrise was so special from up there and knowing that we are on a live vulcano for the first time was kind of amaizing.

I just loved this trek so much because its hard and totally worth it, waking 2 AM to get on time to the location was not easy, slept an hour but enjoyed every part of this trek as it made me see how beautiful this country is !! The walk up took 2:30 hours, but its all up ward and there is traffic of many people that are going up there, we paid around 350,000 ruppieh per person for our guide plus 50,000 for breakfast per person which includes boiled eggs, banana sandwich, tea and juice. The sunrise is just magical, sadly was a bit cloudy so it wasnt the full experience, but it was totally worth it still… the higher you go it becomes super cold, I mean like a lot !! We had to rent blanket by 50,000 rupiah per blanket. I recommend everyone this trek and it will be unforgettable, just dont drag anyone who hates walking or especially climbing as they will nag the whole way 😂

Sunrise hike was worth the view. Weather was excellent during the time we hiked, offering paranomic views of the surround volcanic views and Mount Agung

Best sun raise view from top of the batur It will take 1 h trekking from the half of the mountain You need to take a guide not sure we can go individually But the view is awesome You can see active smoke from 🪨 rocks

Lovely place to go for a hike. Like many others we went up early in the morning, starting around 3:30 am, such that we could be at the top for the sunrise. I would say it's a medium difficulty, and people with some experience and who are used to working out, should be able to do this in around 2 hours. Very beautiful at the top, really nice view. But the mountain is also quite beautiful when watched from a distance.

  • 5/5 Richard C. 1 year ago on Google
Well worth the trek, even though there was heavy cloud cover and we could see almost nothing - definitely no sunrise pics! The cloud lifted to at least get a little view. It was cold at the top with the rain and wind, so a wind cheater is essential. Our guide had prepared some hot boiled eggs which were great as hand warmers.

  • 5/5 Joe M. 1 year ago on Google
Mount Batur is a towering volcano in Bali that is ripe for hiking.  Should you do so you will be rewarded with the most sensational breathtaking sunrise views you can imagine.  In fact my pictures probably wont do it justice. The hike started around 3.30am from the car park, the idea being get to the top by around 5.30/6am for sunrise.  This is perfectly achievable, as although it is 1700m high it is a very able climb for most people.  I myself found it very easy. It is pitch black, and you get given a torch, but it doesn’t do much, so I suggest going slow and steady. When you get to the top you can take a seat and watch the heavens form around you.  There’s lots of room so you can get your pictures without people being in the way Going down you need to be careful.  It is extremely slippery and lots of people were falling.  When its bright there is a lot of beautiful scenery around you When you get to the bottom you will see lots of local produce being grown such as onions, potatoes and so on.
