Just 24 kms from Ahmedabad is this historical Vav that is awaiting for its well wishers. So if you love vavs, visit this less frequented place and see for yourself the magnificent sculptures and designs. Villagers are struggling hard for upkeep but plastic waste and plastic foods and packages are littered on each floor and space literally everywhere in vav. Ignore all these and look for the finer points in this vav. Parking free, photography free, time free, are you free? Check the photos to see who built this vav. Very few know this. Enjoy. Revisited Ancient Vav at Ambapur almost after a 4 years span. 16/9/23. Spic and span interiors and so well kept, kudos to the locals and other involved agencies. The ASI display board narrates the significance of this 15 th century Vav. Photos do the talking. Worth your visit and each moment spent .

Located in Ambapur village nearby Gandhinagar, this 15th sanctuary stepwell (also known as "vav" in gujarati) is a beautiful architectural site. This place is not well known to tourists, but it's carvings and structure is almost identical to Adalaj stepwell. It's well maintained by local residents. There's a temple as well in its premises. This place is well known amongst Photographers as they get to shoot decent pre-wedding photos here.

Ambapur Stepwell is located in Gandhinagar district, 20 KM from Karnavati. It is 500 years old, carved and five stories deep. We went there on Sunday by cycling. Very few people visit in a day. The step-well is NOT maintained properly at all by the government unlike the Adalaj Stepwell. One can enter the step-well from temple. We, from Pedal Power Group, collected all the plastic waste from the Vav to send a strong message of Clean India. The citizens must understand their responsibility to keep it clean. URGENT ATTENTION NEEDED FOR MAINTENANCE FROM GOVERNMENT.

Excellent heritage place tucked away from sight midway between Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. This is located close to the DPS school on the Adalaj-Koba highway. This 15th century step well is smaller than the one at Adalaj (Adalaj ni Vav). Very similar design and motifs although not much animals in the artisan and craftsmanship at show. This entire area from Patan to Mansa to Adalaj and Ambapur are speckled with step wells. This is a witness of the ruler's concern and provision for the people, given the arid region. The step well is hidden from human view as it is dwarfed by a temple that has been built at the doorstep. Perhaps a good symbiotic existence.

The well itself is beautiful. But highly underrated and unmantained. It can greatly benefit the local economy if it can be developed on the lines of the Adalaj Stepwell, but alas! Currently it serves as a spot for pre-wedding photo shoots

The step-well of Ambapur is a stepwell in the village of Ambapur, close to the state capital, Gandhinagar.[1] The stepwell is believed to be built in the 15th century although it doesn't have any inscription. The step-well or 'Vav', as it is called in Gujarati, is intricately carved and is five stories in depth. Such step wells were once integral to the semi-arid regions of Gujarat as they provided basic water needs for drinking, washing and bathing. These wells were also venues for festivals and sacred rituals.

The 5 stories superb ,large, well mainted stepwell...the only pinching thing is that...it has no water even at the the time of monsoon...the waterflow at bottom is not enough to come out...surroundings area has pull out the water for irrigation ....that has kicked out the water from the stepwell... atleast at the 75 feet down ..there is no chance of water here...it does not consists good carving like adalaj vav...but the size is too big.and it is only 5 kmf far from adalaj vav.

I was so spellbound by the art, stone Carvings and design of 15 th Century Ambapur stepwell,Gujarat. Finest example of Indian Architecture.♥️ The Step-well of Ambapur is a stepwell in the village of Ambapur, close to the state capital, Gandhinagar.[1] The stepwell is believed to be built in the 15th century although it doesn't have any inscription. Ambapur Ni Vav in Gandhinagar is a hidden gem that takes you back to the 15th century. This intricately carved stepwell, or 'Vav' in Gujarati, stands five stories deep, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. Despite lacking inscriptions, the well served crucial functions in its time, meeting water needs in the arid regions of Gujarat. Beyond utility, it became a cultural hub for festivals and sacred ceremonies. A visit to Ambapur Ni Vav is a journey into history and architecture, offering a glimpse into the importance of such structures in the past.

15th century stepwell, a forgotten piece of history that is not well maintained, maybe due to its location or significance. Not a important tourist place like adalaj stepwell (adalaj ni vav), but can be made a good tourist place if well maintained.

Its a very good place for photography. For adalaj stepwell you have to take permission but here you can shoot without any permissions.Good place for pre wedding or for traditional ethnic wear photography. EDIT: Now pre wedding is not allowed here.

Ambapur stepwell is just 4 KMs away from famous Adalaj stepwell in the outskirts of Ahmedabad city. It is a four storeyed 15th century stepwell. It is not as decorative as Adalaj stepwell, but the architecture is impressive.

Nestled inside the Ambapur village , the vav cant be accessed via public transport . From the highway its about 1 km inside. The lore of the well dates back to the deity Amba and built around the same time as the adalaj . Some say this was done as a practise well before creating the main vav at adalaj. Though not being a tourist spto , it kept clean and tidy by the villagers . Good to go during the day time as their would be good sunlight to walk inside .

Visited Mar 2022. This is a like hidden gem. Really nice vav that doesn't get the attention it deserves. Very nice carvings. The vav is reasonably clean. At the rear of the vav is a spiral stone staircase (see attached pic) that leads to the topmost level of the last gallery. Worth climbing down - to get a better view of the actual (circular) vav and the steps leading to it. If you go to Adalaj Vav, try and make it here too. BTW, this vav is not open in the afternoon, roughly 12 to 4.
