The exhibition inside the castle is not the informative. There is not much stuff of the castle preserved but the reconstruction still stay true to the old image. In wintertimes, it’s a very peaceful place. The souvenir shop is the cheapest among all the touristic place I’ve been to in Lithuania. Recommend shopping gifts here.

Pro Tip: Last Sunday of each month, Free Entrance. Easy Day Trip from Vilnius. I took the train, more convenient and comfortable. Bus options are also available. Trakai Castle is one of the most authentically preserved castles in all of Europe.

Trakai Castle, located in the middle of a lake, like in fairy tales, reachable via wooden bridges that connect it to the mainland. My luck was to see it in frozen mode .. Even more impressive. It is surrounded by a park where you can walk. The interior of the castle is also very interesting and I recommend a visit.

This is a lovely castle and certainly worth a visit if you are staying in Vilnius or surrounding area. It makes a great day out. There is ample parking in the town and the castle is an easy walk. All the usual tourist souvenir shops are on the way. The castle is in excellent condition and has a large number of exhibits from around the area over the centuries. This are arranged in the rooms, mainly in the main keep. They cover different periods in the castle’s history. You can walk all around the castle, both around the outside and within. You can even rent a boat and go right round the outside. Some of the views across the lake are really nice, though there is nothing that really stands out. The gift shop is really good and actually cheaper than many of the market stalls in the village. I would certainly recommend a visit.

I had seen very high praises for the Trakai Island Castle from various sources online. However, I was a bit disappointed when I visited the inside. The exterior and view from the opposite side of the lake was just like shown online. The exhibition inside didn’t display elements such as daily life in the castle compared to other castle museums from around the same era. It was also very warm inside for some reason because the windows were closed. One other thing was that one area of the castle was under repair. I was surprised that they had opened that area for visitors. The makeshift steel stairs may have been unsafe for some younger children or people with physical hinderances. We saw someone throw down a piece of discarded rubble from the top. It is also quite far from the main bus and train stations. The buses to the castle also run very few (about 1 bus every hour or so). Instead it is a 40 minute walk. This could definitely be improved.

STRONGLY NOT RECOMMENDED TO USE THIS SERVICE. Do not engage with this gym (or network) at any circumstances unless you like being blackmailed and extorted for money. Besides the network itself being cheap, like really worn out ,cheap, broken, dirty equipment, showers, changing rooms - not worth even its low price a month. If you sign a contract with these crooks they will not allow you to cancel it without paying them absolutely ridiculous amount of money to do so, but that is written in smaller letters in contract and is not the source of the problem. More importantly when your contract expire and you will absolutely want to quit the network to look for a better option (believe me) -- they will delay the cancellation enough to rack up an additional sum of money, because their slow processing time of cancellation somehow is your problem and counts as you USING THE GYM. That's right, you are using the gym after you signed the cancellation of the contract, even though you CAN NOT GET INSIDE anymore. When you tell them that you have canceled the contract and don't own them anything anymore they will try to extort that money. They also had some software malfunction that added up to 15€ which in total summed up to more than their price a month. And their software problem is somehow also client's fault. I have spoken to a lady at the counter during cancellation that assured me that software malfunction will not be a problem and payment for cancellation processing will not be billed and everything is fine. Later I have received a SINGLE call from a "manager", lady who was barely able to speak basic English and was unable to explain why I have to pay that made up amount. Not even a WEEK later, immediately I start to get sms threats from COLLECTOR'S agency trying to extort me for these 20€ and threatening to sue. This is absolutely unacceptable and I would strongly advise to NOT USE OR ENGAGE IN ANY ACTIVITIES WITH THIS GYM even if it is your only available option. There is a great network Gym+ in Vilnius right now that is cheaper, better equipped, with a very straightforward and transparent contract and so far haven't tried to extort money from me. I would strongly advise against using LEMON GYM network unless you want legal issues and money extortion agencies after you.

Parking for 2.5 euros per hour as public parking or locals offer longer times. The access is spectacular, as the island is o the lake. This is a Lithuanian dukes' castle. Nice exhibitions inside, more in the castle part because the history museum is boring with different local collections mixed. The ticket is quite expensive for the offer. Google new algorithms keep blocking this review - fox your software!

The castle itself is nice. You have put Putin inside your dungeon, in the historical castle, a museum… this is political, weird and disgusting. You have put the huge flag of other country on the castle without any Lithuanian flag besides it. I think this place must not be like this, shame on owners.

A very well preserved castle that is worth visiting. It gives you a good feel of the past and teaches a bit of history. I like how they organised it so that you go from one room to another and get to see everything without wandering around back and forth. There are also some hidden surprises 😉

I am not sure this castle has been renovated well. It looks so new and looks like had been built from the beginning with the current materials. So I was not sure if the castle was historical or not. The entrance price was 10, 00 €. In Autumn time, the place was so empty, not crowded, and was too easy to enter the castle. But most of the cafes and restaurants were closed. You can go there to visit a historical!!! place, but I advise you not to expect it.

I have been privileged to see this beautiful place in the winter and summer and both are truly wonderful in their own right. It is almost like visiting two different worlds. In the snow and winter the place is almost like a fairy tale. The lake freezes and you can walk across it. The castle is full of history. In the summer the place transforms to this amazing summer lake which people swim and you can rent water-sports equipment. Trakai is easy to get to. You can get a bus form Vilnius or a train using the LTG app. If you want to drive you can rent a bolt drive car and park in a designated car park. I have been to Lithuania numerous times and this place is my favourite to visit.

Trakai Castle, located in Lithuania on an island within Lake Galvė, is a stunning medieval fortress with a red-brick exterior and Gothic architecture. It's a historical gem that offers a glimpse into Lithuania's past through its museum displays. Accessible by boat and bridge, the castle is an enchanting destination that combines scenic beauty with rich cultural heritage, making it a captivating site for history buffs and tourists.

We visited castle in May, marking our second trip to this beautiful place, with our first being in the summer of 2017. The charm and historical spirit of the location are truly like something out of a story. However, the castle is currently undergoing renovations, resulting in some exhibitions being closed. This also makes navigating the area a bit more challenging and slightly hazardous. Despite this, I love this place and highly recommend a visit.

Very picturesque location, part of the castle is under construction works so access to some of the exhibitions is by temporary scaffolding which doesn't too safe. Also believe another part is completely closed off, but was still interesting for €10. Was relatively easy to get there, train from Vilnius train station to Trakai train station, and from there about a thirty minute walk through the town which is also pretty

Visiting the castle in the summer time is a quite unique experience. The open door free entrance, the medieval antique market, the people dressing up in traditional and medieval clothes, all of these experiences make you really immerse in the history of this 700-year-old city. Plus the amazing summer evening concerts and great local beer!

A fairy tale castle in a gorgeous setting, simply a place of beauty. The exhibits are also extensive, well presented and quite exquisite. There is also good signage in English along with helpful staff. We got here early at 10am so the queues were non existent. It was a summer weekday when we visited. There us a €12 entry fee.

Really beautiful place for a half day trip from vilnius. The castle and lake is stunning and there are also offers of trips on the lake for €5. There are plenty of places to eat and buy refreshments. The bus stop is located a 30 minute walk from the castle but the walk is flat and you can either go along the water are through the village both are very beautiful.

Definitely, it's overpriced: 12€ for a castle without context or information on the rooms. They should improve the areas with context about the expositions. Also, some rooms didn't have an explanation in English. The staff could be more friendly too. The area around the castle has a very nice market.

Ukrainian flag distorted the whole view of the castle. Regarding the politics, the experience was amazing, plenty of exhibitions with good translation. It was a bummer that the top of the castle is inaccessible and caution is advised when walking during rainy days, it becomes slippery especially on the stairs. The WC is free.

The landscape is truly picturesque and arrests the gaze. Trakai Castle dominates the islet above, which although I would include it in the most indifferent castles I have visited, the picturesqueness of the landscape and the many shops on the shores of the lake offer the possibility for a pleasant escape from the noise of the city. Its prospective visitor should know that he will visit it not so much to see something special from the castle as for the magic of nature and for a boat ride on the lake.

Trakai Castle is somewhat of a gem. It's situated about a 40 minute drive from Vilnius but I believe you can also get here by train or bus. The castle itself is beautifully reconstructed and they recount the process as part of the exhibition. The exhibition is decent and covers a lot of aspects about the castle and its inhabitants. I think that the experience could be enhanced with access to the towers or battlements (perhaps this is a separate tour). If you're thinking about trekking to Trakai, do it. The area is beautiful and the €12 adult price is totally reasonable.

Nice, mostly reconstructed castle with an interesting audioguide (€1.10 at the Android play store) located on an island, accessible over a bridge from the shores of the lake. The entrance fee of €12 per adult (as of August 2023) is worth being paid. The views are very nice, both on the castle from the shore and also from the castle. The walk around the castle walls is free.

Cute little castle on an island in Trakai outside of Vilnius. We went on a Sunday and it was remarkably quiet and peaceful. You cross a bridge over the lake to get to the castle island. You can then either pay for a ticket to see the castle or you can simply walk around the perimeter of the castle. We were short on time so we opted for the latter. We walked around the outside and didn’t see a single person in the middle of the day on a weekend. We also got to enter the main castle gate and have a look at the courtyard without paying for a ticket.

Beautiful castle that had a great significance for The Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the past. The castle itself and the surroundings are absolutely amazing. Trakai is definitely a must visit place, but the interior part of the castle is not that special. There are bunch of random items shown in different rooms and unfortunately some part of it was under renovation when I visited it. It is still possible to visit those parts but you need to go through the construction area. The full price is 10 Euros and 5 Euros for students.

Beautiful castle on an island to explore when visiting Vilnius. It's an easy 45 minutes away from the city center by car. The museum shares information about the history of the area with the castle as well as the restoration of what the castle looks like today. Probably the highlight of our trip to Vilnius.

The castle is a interesting visit full of history (it's under renovation atm tho, a big part of it need to be accessed through temporary stairs and some views are not as pretty because of the construction). Trakai as a whole is a delight, just gorgeous.

Good experience to see a real castle. Alot of it is under construction so more like paying to see construction workers and listen to the sounds of machinery. Around the outside is pretty cool experience. You can actually swim in the water like a real native..nice and cool! We rented a boat for an hour..that was worth every penny.

We got the bus from Vilnius, they're small and cramped, but it's only 30 mins drive. Cash only tickets and drivers don't speak English (not that they have to, just sharing). We walked to the castle from the bus station, took about 30 mins. It's a nice walk. The castle entrance was free as it's the last Sunday of the month. It's a great museum, clean toilets, shade outside, but it's having renovation so lots either not accessible or not visible, which is a shame. A bit of imagination required. Outside there are great spots for picnics, you can paddleboard/pedalow/boat cruise etc. lots of ice cream places too. We walked back along the water, which brought a nice breeze.

Trakai Castle is a historical landmark in Lithuania that I recently visited, situated on a picturesque lake. The architecture and surrounding nature create a magical atmosphere that I truly enjoyed. I took a stroll around the grounds and soaked in the beautiful views. I also tried the local kibinai at a nearby café, which was delicious! The castle reflects Lithuania's rich heritage, making it a perfect spot for anyone who loves history and nature.

Sehr schöner und stark besuchter Ort. Die Burganlage ist wunderschön gelegen und lohnt auf jeden Fall einen Besuch. Wir haben sie nur von außen besichtigt, da wir mit Hund unterwegs sind.

Pretty place, the castle tour was a great experience. The castle was under construction but not a problem for me. The museum presentation is nice. Although it lacks some lights in some places. The place around the castle is lovely. 🤩

Castle is a great representation of Lithuanian resilience. It has been destroyed a few times. The town of Trakai is awesome as long as you grab yourself Bolt scooter and go around with it. It's a bit of a walk around. Do not recommend going in the car. Kibinai is a must try, most of the places have a great recipe

Lovely views, just slightly annoying how there is no bus there and you either have to walk for 50 mins or take a taxi. Ticket to enter castle exhibitions was around €12 which seemed slightly steep to us so we didn't purchase, especially as you could step foot inside the castle foyer for free anyway.

Great place to walk around and rent a boat for a short ride on the lake. The castle does not feel too historic but it's still beautiful

The castle is not pet friendly we was asked to leave because I was carrying my westie puppy in my hands but they saw that sold me a ticket and then ask as to leave because the dogs or any other pets aren’t aloud totally scamming us

Trakai Castle is a beautiful place and it bonds family members. It has a very informative tour. It is huge, and tells a lot about Lithuania. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat to anyone that asked. I have only been to the Trakai Castle once, but I cannot stop thinking about it. Wonderful place.

Beautiful historical place to visit when you want to get away from the main city center. There's a direct train that takes you here and then a 10-20 minutes walk. The entrance fee for the Castle is a bit pricey because you can see Castles all over Europe for free. There are cool abandon buildings nearby that are also worth checking out.

Really historical castle, The Castle was built in the 14th and 15th centuries on one of many islands of Lake Galvė with an excellent strategic location as it is surrounded by water on all sides. Interestingly, at the time when the Castle was built, the level of water in the lake was 2 metres higher than it is now. The current island used to be a group of three small islands. Really beautiful place for photo with friends and family!

This is an incredibly well kept up, interactive and critical feature in Lithuanian history. The view is beautiful and while the prices are a little higher than many Lithuanian historical points, the "return on investment" is truly there. A must see if you visit Lithuania!!!

If you go to Trakai, it’s good to see the castle as well. It’s a different art of architecture to discover in the place. It’s by payment though if you are a museum type of person, you could give it a try. But know that you can not get to the top of the castle therefore no view of the island from above.

Great experience take a walk through the historical location of Lithuania. Great exhibition through the all castle - from beginning on the entrance till the end in the old rooms and halls. The construction of the stone castle was begun in the 14th century. The castle was rebuilt in the 1950s–1960s by Lithuanian initiative, although it had received resistance from Soviet authorities. The Trakai History Museum was established after the reconstruction.

Old Lithuanian Castel. Very popular for tourism. Good place to have old day walk, a lot of authentic restaurants around.

The castle is a great experience, it's nestled outside of Vilnius. Easily accessible by train or car. Lovely restaurants with great views of the castle to enjoy coffees/tea or some authentic Lithuanian cuisine. Highly recommend!!

One of the best days in Lithuania. Very well preserved castle and also impressive museum. There's a lot things to do apart of castle like boating, swimming, flying, food is fantastic too.

One of the must see destinations of Lithuania! The castle is a museum where you can wonder around and learn of the history of the castle and the surrounding area. The 14th century castle was a mighty power center during the Grand Duchy of Lithuania but fell into disrepair later on. Starting in the 1900s the castle has been brought back to its former glory.

Beautiful castle on a remote little island with a little walk overseeing the lake/water shrouding the castle. Freely roam around different rooms of the castle getting knowledge on Lithuania land history and castle itself. You can have some fun as a kid and as an adult with their interactive set-up such as medieval cells and others things. One time experience for sure it is really really overpriced for little experience you can get, in my personal opinion especially for such a cheap price country with other things hence 4* stars, I still recommend to try if you don't mind spending a bit extra.

Very beautiful place. Exactly in hot weather I am very recommend to rent a water bysicle and go across the island around the castle. I will love it, I promise you. For renting any water attraction you need a cash! Souvenirs in front of the main bridge to castle supports card payment. All restaurants also support cards.

It is a 12euro ticket per adult but I found it worth it. There were many well illustrated rooms showcasing bedrooms, chapels, weapons, religious relics and treasures. Really enjoyed our tour. The place also have very clean bathrooms.

Some of the areas and rooms are not accesible anymore (I visited it few years ago) and it's probably because of too many tourists like other tourist places but overall its still a beautiful restored castle and I recommend to visit it. Most exhibitions and the history of items or places are explained in Lithuanian and English, few more are also in Polish and Russian languages. There's also a lake around the castle and a lot of restaurants and souvenir shops

A must visit place in Lithuania. Something extremely different from where I come from. The place is so green and clean. There's an enormous lake hugging the castle grounds, in which you can rent a boat that takes you around it! The view is really amazing, loved walking around the castle. The only thing about it is that it was super crowded on the weekend we visited. Hard to walk around the bridges to it. But it pays of! 🙌🏻

It was a really nice experience to see the Baltic type of fortification. If you are a person who likes landscapes and historical architecture, this is a must see place in Lithuania. Note: it's a bit of a queue during high season.

The castle is really neat but it was the priciest castle I visited throughout all 3 Baltic countries. 12€ for adults and it was also a lot of random artifacts that did not pertain to the castle itself. Still cool though.

Wonderful castle surrounded by a lake. Wouldn’t recommend going inside, not worth the money. Just walk around and enjoy the views form the outside. If you going on a sunny day you might have problems looking for a parking spot. Locas offer their places for 5€. You can find parking places cheaper if you don’t mind walking.

Beautiful castle with lots of rooms to visit and many interesting exhibitions. Definitely worth the price. There are nice toilets on the premises too. The place can be enjoyed by children and seniors. The only drawback is the ticket office. There is one lady selling tickets and the organized, large groups are allowed to jump the queue. It takes ages and extends the wait for private visitors.

If you ask me for one good place to see around Vilnius, it has to be this castle. This is perhaps the only good photo spot for me. Its a 45min-1hr by bus from Vilnius bus station, and then there is 30min of walk to castle each way, but worth the effort. Look at the pictures at different angles and different times for yourself

Very picturesque castle, but it's more worth visiting it for the view onto it then for what it present inside. It can take little bit over one hour with semi reading of the description texts. The exhibition inside rooms felt more as a disappointment, however some of the rooms are quite nice, like the one with trophies.

Beautiful castle and well maintained. There were lovely exhibits within the grounds and it was not too busy. It was very difficult to travel there with a pram because of all the stairs and gravel but there is an accessible life so the venue is somewhat accessible but not fully.

Nice castle to visit, arrived at 10am to avoid the crowd. The cashier at the entrance could have been more helpful as to give us some information, or at least to know there's an Audioguide application.
