(Translated by Google) Beautiful place. Nature, history, the work of salt ... the flamingos ... an absolutely must-see place. And finally a unique sunset to be seen with the backdrop of the lagoons and the outline of the ancient mills. Do not forget the whole salt and Nubian garlic. Go you will not regret it. (Original) Bellissimo posto.

Familienbetrieb, das merkt man. Sehr engagierte Menschen.

Family owned salt producing plains, with windmills hundreds of years old. The museum might look small but the historical tour (available in English) is both informative and fun, full of little tidbits about the history of salt making in Sicily. Well worth the 4euro fee. Did you know that the modern word ‘salary’ derived from the Roman practice of paying soldiers in salt? Being so valuable, soldiers in the Roman army were paid with salt instead of money. Their monthly allowance was called "salarium" ("sal" being the Latin word for salt). This Latin root can be recognized in the French word "salaire" — and it eventually made it into the English language as the word "salary." There, now you know.

(Translated by Google) Salt pans, also known as Nubian salt pans, which are located in the Province of Trapani. We can see the typical windmills that pump the water salted to the evaporation rectangles. I visited this interesting place on the way to the small town medieval of Erice, founded by the Elímeos in the 7th century BC. , is that does not dispense a detailed visit through the tangle of his narrow and flowery streets that offer surprises at every step. From Salinas to the city of Erice is a route that I advise you not to lose on a trip to Sicily. . .
