(Translated by Google) Mozia, also called Mothia or Motya is a small town founded by the Phoenicians on the small island of San Panteo which is located inside the Stagnone di Marsala. The island is located in front of the west coast of Sicily, between the Isola Grande and the mainland. The place belongs to the Whitaker Foundation and the museum of the same name is also worth visiting. It can be reached by boat at the entrance to the stagnone and the shallow water allows you to take a peaceful bath.

You walk surrounded by very well-kept vineyards and olive groves that frame the archaeological finds that are part of a Phoenician settlement. The Whitaker museum completes the visit to the island with the artifacts found during the excavations and the statue of the young man of Mozia. There is a refreshment point and a green area where you can stop for a picnic. I recommend a hat and lots of water for the summer months.

(Translated by Google) Enchanting place full of history. A true earthly paradise with plants of all kinds. The aloes in bloom are beautiful. I recommend visiting the island and the museum with the guide Virginia Aloisi, a true lover of her land. He thrilled us for two hours with the history of the different civilizations that landed in Sicily. He moved us with anecdotes, stories and many beautiful words. Thanks Virginia for the memory you leave us of this beautiful land!

Only come if you're here for a very long time and want to see everything, there are much nicer places in Sicily Quite impractical to visit, rip off in comparison to any other historic site in Sicily and infested with mosquitos. The historic background is super important but poorly shown, often only in Italian on barely readable boards.

It was nice to see but you could do so much more with it. If you have only limited time I would skip.

(Translated by Google) I do not put five stars because I did not like the organization of the route to be made on the island, although we had the map it was not clear where to go, too many beaten paths and lack of signage. Despite this the island is very beautiful to visit! If you are near Marsala go there! To get there it is very simple, just go to one of the salt pans and take the boat that takes you (round trip) to the island with € 10. NB: bring water and food as the bar on the island is expensive and the staff is poorly organized.

We traveled as a couple as part of a tour of about 25 people, guided by a senior former archeologist hired by our group. He gave a fantastic tour of the archeological sites, including an active excavation. He also gave us a very nice tour of the museum. What a treat!

You will need to take a short boat ride to get there. Lots of excavations going on and the museum there houses all the artifacts found on the island.

👍👍 Pretty spectacular museum of you consider what they’re actually doing and working on. Things over 2000 years old. The two ships they’ve recovered thus far (at least in part) are really impressive to think about. The architecture from so long ago was still great. There’s also a lot of history about t...
