It is a Decent gym. Crowd is fine. There are classes which are pretty good on a daily basis both morning and evening. Swimming pool is temperature controlled which is the best part and sauna and steam rooms are also there. Steam and sauna could have been bigger as it gets crowded sometimes. Rest staff is always available for help and are very friendly. Meets all basic requirements.

Half of the pool is always reserved for swimming lessons During family swimming period, other members are not nice to us as an ethic minority as they often find excuses to tell you off like " you are not supposed to swim on this side", or "why do you swim to me?" (Obviously, they thought it was a standing pool and not for swimming. Huh!) Interestingly, local white kids seem to get away from all mischief in the pool and I never saw them being told off. I may blame unclear instructions f this gym or local white British being racist and intolerant, you choose it. It is not a nice gym to go anyway

Been with this gym for just over a year. Sustained an injury (not at gym) and was out of gym action for 6 weeks. Upon my return, I was disappointed to have found that some gym equipment had still not been fixed. The air conditioner system is poor. The car park is a mess when busy. Used to find the gym to be OK, but I have now decided to cancel my subscription due to the equipment standards falling well below par as well as the cleanliness of the gym. Staff did not seem at all bothered when I requested to cancel my subscription. Such a shame....I'll go somewhere else. It truly is you get what you pay for. Update...September 2018....the gym had an overall revamp. All new and modern equipment. Really worth the money now. Even the staff look happy again.

The staff are pleasant and the gym is clean. The swimming pool and sauna/steamroom are nice touches. The gym itself is pretty much useless for many people. There is 1 of each machine and many are broken. There is 1 set of each dumbells and it is difficult to be able to get to use the one correct for you. It is very difficult to get on any machine even at low peak times, and when you do, you will have members in extremely unsafe proximity to you (shoulder to shoulder most times). Mind your toes. The space is poorly designed, machines are compacted together, some in eaves. You will very likely bang your head at some point. There is some kind of race track section that takes a huge amount of space, and there is a punchbag section that when in use echos around the whole gym. There are way more treadmills than required. Maybe it is poorly air-conditioned, but it gets extremely hot in there. In the changing rooms, you have teenagers taking selfies in the mirror irrespective of people being naked in the background. I don't really get this gym. Who is their target market? To me, it seems very unfunctional and awkward. If you're there for classes, sauna, and swimming, it's probably great, but the gym itself is just like a large garage gym that's half broken.

I have been getting sick every day I visited the gym and this has been happening since Everlast rebranded it from Sports direct. Took off a water fountain since and doesn’t seem like anyone is cleaning the machines or mats. Not just me even my partner got really sick after every visit. I have withdrawn my membership simply because Hygine seems a major issue in the Gym!! Some staff members are really friendly but some are just showing off attitudes as well. Too bad!! The air conditioning is too poor. I suspect there could be germs spreading due to bad venting system!!

Great up to date gym with helpful knowledgeable staff. From beginner to advanced.

Bad quality and expensive. Old, dingy and overpriced. The squat racks are too low, there are no resistance bands and the ceilings are too low to shoulder press under. To top it all off, after cancellation later in the month, I was told to cancel the direct debit on my side (which I couldn't do because it hadn't been taken yet) and led to believe I could get my money back, which I could not after sitting on hold for half an hour. Now I have memberships at two gyms and can't get my money back at this one, what a waste of money. Do yourself a favour and go to PureGym, it's cheaper and better.

Spacious and a great choice of equipment. Staff are well informed. Never too busy so you can always use the equipment without having to wait. Nice pool, sauna and steam room

For just £20 a month you can have unlimited access to this well equipped gym seven days a week. Handy for travellers using Colchester main station. Equipment well maintained, clean facilities, friendly staff. Recommended.

Kids swim here for lessons The lessons are amazing and I can't recommend them more. Sadly the showers are horrendous literally stay on for 10 seconds and washing hair is not fun.

DONT JOIN THE GYM !! I am an influencer with over 350k followers and was asked by my followers to review the gym as people have had problems with them. So I joined the gym and it was an easy process as expected. The first day I was there 3 equipments was broken and no staff upstairs to make sure everyone was OK or if anyone needed help as most if not all gyms have staff within shouting distance. Not this gym. If you needed staff you would have to run downstairs and through a door to get a member of staff. NOT ACCEPTABLE. The second time I went there with a open mind thinking it was just a fluke the first time......nope ...... no staff again and even more equipment was broken and some of the equipment you had to use pads to boost yourself up because the seats were broken. I have cancelled my membership and have no plans to go there again. AVOID AT ALL COST. Would be better to pay an extra £5 and go to pure gym. Plus pure gym is 24hours and when a machine brakes it is replaced or repaired with 48hours.

I thought I’d share my experience for this gym, and I have to say it’s all good. It has plenty of equipment for all fitness needs. I use it for the free-weights and pool, and out of all the gyms I have used I am very happy with Everlast as it ticks all the boxes for my training needs. Having a pool to swim in, and a steam room and sauna to relax in after a hard workout is a very nice bonus. Two enthusiastic thumbs up here.

Is great for a workout after a night shift. Opens at 06.00 now. Don't however understand the warm or tepid shower after a sauna. Only moan though.

Clean, professional staff, not to busy and easily Accessible. Don't be swayed by the few who negatively rated here.

Rejoined this gym and It's still as good as I remember. The staff are friendly, the gym area is A.Ced so it's great for an intesnse work out. There seems to be more classes than I remember. The pool is still great as is the sauna and steam room. Highly reccomend, especially as I was paying the same for a gym without a pool of sauna, etc.

Love Everlast Gym. Love, love, love, love it for so many reasons. Some of which are for the fact that they have a full size swimming pool, a steam room and a sauna all included in their £20 monthly subscription. Friendly members of staff always welcome you in. I highly recommend Everlast Gym Colchester. You will be as happy as I am since I joined. You will be glad you did join.

Everything you need in a gym, the changing rooms are a good size with plenty of lockers and hairdryers. Swimming pool is very good and has a sauna and steam room, however I would say that the pool can get overcrowded very quickly, especially if there is swimming lessons going on in the pool at the same time. The gym itself has plenty of cardio and weights machines as well as a selection of free weights. They also offer classes there but I personally have never been to one.

Activ8 is part of a network of council run centres. As a member of activ8 you are able to use all of the facilities across in Billingham, Stockton and Thornaby. The staff are great and the equipment is up to date.

Nice place, poor staff. I had a university registration issue and asked if there was any alternative to paying the £6.50 daily fee (which of course there is) Old lady on the front desk said no and smirked as I paid 1/15 of a years membership for one day. Nicer staff would have treated someone who’s been coming here for three years better

Colchester gym is fine. Cancelled membership but they took out 2 extra direct debits They keep saying they will reimburse me but been almost 3 months.

Don't be fooled by the low prices, once you have signed for a yearly membership and cancelled after the year is over, the company keeps collecting money through DD, If you cancel the DD it affects your credit score, not worth the pain as No-one in the Head office will resolve any thing for you. Though the local gym staff is co-operative but they cant do anything as the company is out to scam you!!!! BEWARE

The general vibe of the gym is pleasant, however, in recent times I've noticed there aren't any paper towels to wipe down machines which sucks. There is no water dispenser either and if you forget your water bottle you have to purchase at reception. Finally my biggest pet peeves at the moment are how a few of the machines are in need of repair. The displays for the rowing machines for example haven't been working for close to a year with no repair in sight, the number of rowing machines have also been reduced. Some of the bikes now feel unstable and overall I feel they haven't invested in the up keep of these machines. When my membership expires this summer, I think I'll be going elsewhere. The car park is also tiny, this morning there was a massive queue just to park. More investment is required.

Very few classes to suit me. Aqua aerobics should be run several times a week in the evenings to give you better chance of booking too. I've wasted a years membership on this place

Illegal work practices, getting staff to work until 11pm then come in at 5.30am. Also they don't care if staff are threatened by nasty members of the public who are allowed to continue their membership. Very understaffed and badly organised.

Great gym overall and great staff who are always friendly and welcoming. The only downsides are that it does get very busy at peak times and the car park is small.

I use Everlast Fitness Club daily for swimming and some days for gym. Very friendly staff and very well maintained facilities. I would highly recommend joining this gym.

Great gym - helpful and knowledgeable staff. Equipment is all up to scratch. they pack a lot in, especially as they have sauna and a swimming pool.

I go here a few times a month, good gym, packed during lunch/ busy hours, best time to go is very early in the morning.

I was a member there when it was LA Fitness. In it's present form it outdoes the old gym. Much cleaner and the shower dispensers are always topped up. Very good equipment although the rowing machines need to be looked at. Only a few have working display consoles and the occasional foot strap is missing. Never seems to be any staff in the gym so I have no one to go to for advice or assistance. Being a fit seventy eight year old it would be nice to think a trained member of staff was around in case of emergency. It's much better than my last gym and I am happy to stay a member.

Quality setup. They have taken control of the COVID restrictions and the booking system works a dream. No issues with booking in and a decent number of people in the gym at one time which means everything is safe. Plenty of sprays and sanitiser all over the gym floor. All members encouraged to clean before and after use as well as the staff deep cleaning multiple times a day. The staff absolutely make this gym. I wouldn’t train anywhere else!

I was never a big gymn fan simply because it seemed too much like hard work. However, I joined a couple of weeks and can honestly say I love it. I tend to stick yo classes where I find the teachers are amazing and push you to your own level. Look forward to toning up and feeling fit in the coming new year.

Its a gym that functions for training purposes..

First rate equipment. Only negative would be that the showers have no power to them.It's like standing under a watering can.Apart from that no complaints at all.

This is actually a decent gym. On the downside it is a very small gym and some of the equipment is a little dated now compared to much more upmarket gyms but its a quality local gym with everything you really need. Staff are helpful and changing facilities are clean. Would recommend.

It's a mess, never tidied up,equipment all over the place. Staff show no interest in maintaining the facilities. Only still go as it is handy for shops and busses

Play team basketball and netball here. Good venue, reasonable prices. Have yet to try the gym itself or look at prices but what I have tried is good.

Went there 5 days a week all last summer and starting up the momentum again now, nice enough staff but greater equipment and atmosphere. No one judges (at least when I go at opening)

Nice little gym but well equipped. My only hope is that the squat rack is moved so that the ceiling doesn't thwart the overhead press. For the price of £20 (12 month tie in) you get the gym, a good sized pool, steam and sauna rooms, as well as large and clean changing facilities.

I go just for the treadmill and pool mainly. Facilities are ok. The changing rooms/showers don't seem to have changed in years (since before it was Everlast) but it's acceptable.

Moved to this gym from puregym recently due to the number of young people messing about. Much better for 30+ Yrs old but the equipment and facilities are quite dated and in need of updating. Would be a higher rating with new equipment.

The facilities are adequate and very good value for a group that now meets 3 mornings a week to talk and hopefully exercise at the same time! All the staff are excellent and ALWAYS make you feel at home. We will discuss any subject and as mostly retired we have a long experience of income tax, coffee making, telephones, sport, banking and insurance but not necesairily DIY! A gym is many things to many people and we try to help members do their own thing, conversation is not compulsory but helpful in the heat of the sauna, steam room, or the pain when trying to complete targets! The long awaited refurbishment will hopefully make the LA Fitness/Sports Direct/Everlast gym a super gym for super staff and super members.
