We went during the week and our reservation time was for 9:00 am so it was easy to park and get in the zoo. The later you go, parking becomes a nightmare, so keep that in mind. We had a great visit. I love that it opens at 9 because it gives the kids and I time to enjoy the zoo before it’s lunch and nap time. We were lucky and the animals were out and about that day. The other guests there were respectful or space and taking turns. Some people wore masks, some did not. The only place I was nervous about the closeness was in the reptile house, so we hurried through and continued seeing the animals that are outside. I do wish there were more bathrooms along the way. Seeing the zoo with 2 little ones, someone always has to use the bathroom, ALWAYS. It was a great trip to the zoo. I know we could have easily spent more time there.

We travel the country and go to a lot of zoos. This one is in our top 3 of favorites. It is well laid out and easy to navigate. They are so many animals, we can not think of anything we didn't see! Favorites were the giraffes and elephants. I went straight for the sloth to get a pic for my grandson, and he was in a corner, so the pic wasn't that great. We went back 3 hrs later to see if he had moved, and nope, he was in the same spot! We had a great time!

I LOVE this Zoo! The membership price is so worth it if you live in Houston or the burbs. Two visits and you’ve already paid for the memberships- totally a steal! The exhibits are well done. The animals are in very beautiful habitats and that makes me happy. The staff really takes care of them. Their entire motto is “See Them. Save Them” and I love that they really work to protect and save all of these beautiful creatures. In December they do Houston Zoo Lights and it’s phenomenal! The weather is usually very enjoyable and the lights are spectacular. They even have photos with Santa which is super cute. My one piece of advice is GO EARLY. Parking gets insane on the weekends and you can spend 45 minutes trying to park. Also, bring a stroller! It’s a ton of walking! If you go in summer, bring lots of water, snacks and even a fan! You will love going here!

The Houston zoo is a very nice zoo. We've been going since children and all the updates they've done over the years definitely add to the experience. It's always clean and tidy with great locations for snacks and beverages. The staff and keepers are all awesome and very knowledgeable of their respective exhibits. There are also a ton of volunteers here too which is awesome. We've recently decided to get a membership because it's really nice to just be able to pop in any time you like for a stroll. It's like a stroll in the park but full of lovely and exotic animals. I used to love seeing the familiar white alligator in the reptile exhibit but they've since relocated him to a nature reserve south of Houston. The zoo can get really busy on the weekends and I would highly recommend getting here before 10am otherwise you'll be driving circles trying to find a parking spot.

The 1st Tuesday of the month is FREE DAY! My friends and I were lucky to snag some tickets and enjoy a wonderful day of exploration at the zoo. First off the restrooms here are so CLEAN. Thank you. I'm always scared to use public restrooms in tourist spots but they do such a good job of keeping this zoo sanitary. Tons of families, couples, and groups of friends viewing the animals. Most animals had a buddy in their enclosure so it was nice to see the efforts they put in the make sure the animals aren't alone. Very easy to navigate with the maps and arrows all over the park. Tons of restrooms and free water refill. It's nice they let you bring outside food and drinks as well as a cooler! We finished the zoo in about 2 hours and 30 minutes. Perfect amount of time and lots of shaded areas as well as indoor AC viewing. Lovely little zoo. I'd bring friends and family here!

It was our first time visiting here. It was such a great zoo. Plenty of shade. The water pond in the middle of the zoo when you walked in was beautiful. We got to see the new exhibit. It was awesome! We rented one of the motorized wheelchairs for my mom. It was like $45 I think for the day. It had a canopy and basket for items. It was my moms first timing using a motorized one and she loved it. My family loved this zoo. We bought water bottles here for $5 each and then refilled them with the refill stations. We would love to visit again if we get the chance.

One of the best places to spend time with family in Houston. Who doesn't want to make memories while learning about animals? The kids always enjoy the animal encounters. The goat experience is always fun. The little ones love petting the goats. Another favorite is the sea lion training. We spend the whole day always learning new things and observing the animals. There are many exhibits , reptile and amphibian house, elephant habitat area, giraffe feeding, bug house, African forest and many more. If you live in the Houston area or visit for a longer time I recommend getting a membership.

Such a wonderful zoo for a fun family outing when the weather is nice and cool. The new Galapagos Islands exhibit is awesome! You might have to wait in line for a few minutes but it's so worth the wait. Don't forget to bring a reusable water bottle, there are refilling stations. The cost for water and food is very high as expected but the cafe does have some tasty options. I suggest bringing a backpack with snacks so you can have a picnic by the lake in the adjacent Herman Park or at one of many shaded picnic benches throughout the zoo.

The Houston Zoo is a 55-acre (22 ha) zoological park located within Hermann Park in Houston, Texas, United States. The zoo houses over 6,000 animals from more than 900 species. It receives around 2 million visitors each year and is the second most visited zoo in the United States, surpassed only by the San Diego Zoo. It is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Earl was a bison that was donated in 1922 and he would be the first animal of what is now the Houston Zoo Area: Vast area, with lots of people visiting here, throughout the year. Ambience: Good. Lots of photographic opportunities. There are many shows that run in this zoo which is a must watch. Location: Easy to reach. Cleanliness: The area is very well maintained and clean. The authorities does a great job in keeping this vast are clean and at the same time taking care of the animals. Entry fee: Entry fee is there for everyone. Parking: Ample parking spots are available at the main entrance and adjacent to other entrances. It will take almost a day to fully cover this zoo. Hence be prepared while planning to visit it. Overall we had a good time, the few hours that we spent at this location. Will recommend this place for visits with friends and family.

Had a great time here! The exhibits were all very well maintained and the facilities were very clean. Lots of free parking nearby. Came back for Zoo light and they were so amazing. Best lights I've been to yet.

The Zoo has a quite a few cool exhibits and most staff was very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. “Debra” was so sweet and helpful when we had questions about an exhibit. Parking was atrocious! We had to pay to park in a parking garage almost 1/2 mile away because there is very limited parking at the Zoo. My suggestion is to get there early if you want free parking at the Zoo. Otherwise, be prepared to pay to park and walk. To be fair, we also attended on a Friday, during Spring Break week so that probably contributed to the parking situation. Restrooms were clean. Like any other place like this, the food was very expensive; however, it was delicious. Our disappointment was when we went to purchase pictures, the staff were obviously not well trained. I normally do not “call out” staff by name but these two (Ashley and Desiree) were the employees at the photo booth and they had no clue. Did not print my pictures and were extremely rude and not helpful AT ALL. I was very disappointed because we ALWAYS purchase pictures - regardless of how good or bad they are. To say the least, it was not the way to end ones experience. 🥺

I recently visited the Houston Zoo, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations! The first thing that struck me was its sheer size - it’s massive! There’s so much to explore and discover. From the moment we entered, we were impressed by the wide range of activities tailored for all ages. It was a delightful experience for everyone in our group, from the little ones to the adults. The zoo’s well-designed layout made navigation a breeze, and we loved how every exhibit seemed to transport us to a different part of the world. The variety of animal species on display was truly impressive, and it was heartening to see the care and attention given to the animals’ well-being. One standout feature was the fun activities scattered throughout the zoo. Whether it was interactive exhibits, animal shows, or educational talks, there was never a dull moment. It really enhanced our visit and made it a day filled with joy and learning. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to answer questions and provide helpful insights about the animals. Plus, the cleanliness and maintenance of the facilities were top-notch. Overall, the Houston Zoo is an excellent destination for families, friends, or even solo visitors looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of wildlife and nature. I highly recommend this zoo, and I can’t wait to visit again!

ZooLights was truly enjoyable experience that I did not expect to have it was wonderful bright well-thought-out well-planned. Quite honestly some of the best fun that I've had since the pandemic started. For anyone reading this and thinks to themselves whether or not they should go you should absolutely enjoy this experience for yourself before it's gone.

I’ve been to many zoos throughout the US, but the Houston Zoo has been by far THE BEST. It has the typical animals, but the exhibits are great and have several life like statues that allow the kids to interact. Each exhibit has great information in English and Spanish. The zoo is very beautiful, easy to navigate, has plenty of food options, seating areas and 2 playgrounds for the kids. There was no option for military discount. Feeding the zebras was $7 for 3 pieces of lettuce. The train was $3.75 a person and the paddle boats right outside of the zoo is a great activity to do. I would definitely recommend this zoo and can’t wait to return.

First time to the Houston Zoo. I figured it would be a cookie cutter experience from my visit to the Dallas zoo but I could be no further from the truth. The staff cares not just for the animals within their compound but the families and individuals who want to learn about them. They have copious care programs for these animals around the world that regular folks like you and me can partake in to ensure our children and our children's children can enjoy these creatures. The park was well staffed and all facilities around the zoo were well kept. The carousel was a fun option near center of the zoo. The upcoming Galapagos island exhibit looks to be like a welcome addition to the Houston Zoo as well. My kids and I had a great time walking and visiting these animals. If you're in the area visiting or live here and have not taken the time to stop in and see..... Please do not wait any longer.

Too hot! Summer with kids not recommended. The Houston Zoo provides a fun and unique experience that connects communities with animals to inspire action to save wildlife. Where else can you see African lions, Asian elephants, and California sea lions...all without leaving the city of Houston? Each year, 2.4 million guests take part in the wonder and magnificence of creatures big and small from all over the globe and learn ways in which they can help save animals in the wild.

We really loved going to the Houston Zoo!!! It’s kept really clean and the animals look so happy!!! It’s really big and love the activities they have there😃 my kids were so happy to see the Animals so up close. They have Gorillas there that’s one of our sons favorite animals! We had a great experience!

Great place to social distance. Very convenient you can bring in your own food and drinks. Their food prices are a little high but the quality had gone up from previous years. The kids zoo area is really nice for them to run around and explore.

BOO ZOO! One of our favorite times of year to visit the zoo. Great experience for the family as always. Parking was not awful today but I will say the last 5 times we’ve tried to go on Friday or Saturday we haven’t found a parking spot. Definitely would recommend going during the week and earlier in the day if at all possible. But once you get inside it’s a really great zoo! Tons of updates have happened since we’ve moved here nearly 10 years ago and I feel like each time we go there are always improvements happening to make the zoo even better!

We absolutely love our annual membership to the zoo. Even though our kids are older (17,16 & 12). Always so much to see and do and we love that we can take our own picnic and spend hours wandering to see everything. Love the new Galapagos area of the zoo and the wetlands too. Everytime we visit there is something new to see.

Have not visited the zoo in many years. So many amazing exhibits. The exhibits that have multiple species are by far the most interesting. I spent far less time observing the single species exhibits. The zebras looked genuinely depressed. I lived in South Africa, and the zebras always had many other species around them. They have a Texas wetlands exhibit that was unique. They have an alligator gar exhibit, which is probably funny for most Houstonians. 5 will deserved stars.

Beautiful. We went to the Zoo Lights experience and felt it was really well designed and developed. Tickets were on the expensive side but well worth it because there were a ton of exhibits and lighting environments. Took us about 2 hrs from start to finish. Buy your tickets online! They are not sold at the counter.

This was a great outdoor day! Great place to see the animals this time of year. Zoo Boo was in full swing. Lots of pumpkins and costumes. The new renovations are great . Was disappointed in the alligator exhibit. The old one was better and bigger. Everything else was great! Recommend taking your own snacks and drinks. Get your tickets online and enjoy what Houston has to offer

I visited this zoo on a Friday with my husband and two kids (5 and 14). It was a beautiful zoo, with lots of shade and an enormous selection of animals. We had a truly wonderful experience. The only negative is that there is not nearly enough parking-we circled full lots for half an hour, then parked at the museum of natural science and walked over. We also so appreciated that you could bring in a picnic, which made the trip more affordable. Overall, an excellent trip.

What a lovely zoo! I have been to quite a few zoos both nationally and abroad and found the animal variety here to be really top notch. For the most part the exhibits are smartly done so that you have great views of the animals. As a nature enthusiast I also appreciated that they have so many informational signs about how you can help protect wildlife by the choices you make as a consumer. The landscaping is expertly done here. It is, quite literally, a beautiful place. Be sure to catch animal handler and trainer discussions if you can. They are fun and informative. My group especially enjoyed the sea lion show. All of the employees that we interacted with were helpful, polite and friendly. There are 2 reasons I gave the zoo 4 stars instead of 5. 1. They need more directional signage. This zoo is HUGE and my group got turned around more than once. I'm not sure why there isn't more signage. We had to stop and ask for directions at one point because we kept doubling back to places we had been before. 2. (And the zoo may have no control over this.) Parking is a NIGHTMARE. Granted, we went on a beautiful spring Saturday so it was very busy. But there was no one directing traffic, no signage to tell you when a lot was full, and overall it was one big mess. Allow plenty of time to park. Other than that, two big thumbs up! I highly recommend a visit to this great institution.

I LOVE going to the Houston zoo! Today was the perfect weather to go, not too hot like the summer time and not too crowded either! The earlier you go, parking is definitely easier but we got lucky with a pretty close spot right around lunch time! We packed some lunch to eat by the water/park outside the zoo, and it’s the perfect view! We didn’t wait in line at all, just make sure to purchase your ticket online before, as they aren’t selling at the gates. Inside is great, plenty of shade and inside stops along the way! Plenty of snack and drink options as well, even Saint Arnold on tap which is nice! Excited to see the Galapagos exhibit open next spring! They have the plans up for you to see💚

One of our favorite places to visit in Houston. It's one of the busiest and most impressive zoos in the US. We maintain a family membership each year which allows two of us to get into the zoo anytime as frequently as we wish. We are constantly amazed and impressed and the updates and improvements made. The staff is always helpful and friendly. We love seeing the young volunteers and engaging with them. There are many educational programs for children that allow children to discover animal habitats and conservation efforts. The zoo is very popular so at certain times of day and certain times of year, you can expect lots of cars and lots of guests.

We were visiting family in Texas City and wanted something fun to do with the whole family! This was by far our favorite experience! It was definitely HOT since we came during the hottest part of the day but plenty of stopping and the indoor exhibits were dramatically cooler and gave us a chance to cool down :) they had water fill up stations which was awesome! The food court was absolutely the best customer service and kind humans we have ever met. Gluten free options too, not much but enough to make sure I was good to go! This zoo is by far the best zoo we’ve been too. A lot of the big cats weren’t out, but I don’t blame them it was hot!

Zoo lights at night is pretty fun. Definitely a kid friendly and kid fun event. The Christmas lights are great, I just wish they had incorporated more lights or fixtures about animals. Otherwise it's a good time. The tickets were a little higher than I thought they should have been but you are supporting the zoo, so that helps.

We have been to this zoo before but this was the first time we did the Zoo Lights. It was amazing. My family loved it!!! We were hesitant because of COVID-19 and the amount of people that would be there, but we were pleasantly surprised with the protocols that were implemented. The zoo staff did their part to set and enforce guidelines, it was more that 'random guy/family' that would be without their mask, have kids touching everything, etc. It was a great experience with lots of opportunities for some great pictures.

The Houston zoo is in the process of redoing the entire front section of the zoo. They are installing a Galapagos exhibit, and it looks like it will be amazing! Quick tip: we went on a Monday to avoid the crowds, and were fortunate to experience some of the really cool things that take place at the zoo. First, we have to say that the zoo personnel are so nice and friendly, and go out of their way to share information and discuss the animals with you. I'm sure they're overwhelmed on weekends but you get to have fantastic conversations with really smart people when it's not as busy! They were in the process of socializing two ocelot kittens that were just born a few weeks ago and letting them explore the exhibit. They were stinking adorable! We also happened to walk into the reptile house right when they were feeding three (already dead) rabbits to the pythons. If you've never seen a python swallow a 18-in rabbit whole, it's quite the impressive sight. Evidently, they only do that every couple of weeks. And last, but not least, the two baby elephants were amazing... Running around like two little puppies! They were born here just a few months ago. Go see them!

Very fun experience! It's been a very long time since I've been, but a first time for my daughter. Some of the animals were not out for viewing, a majority of the gift shops were closed, all of the booths were card only, and everything was very overpriced. All in all the staff was very friendly, the zoo was very clean, there were sanitation stations set up all around the zoo, bottle refill stations and water fountains all around. We had a great time! I'd suggest bringing your own food and drinks with you, and don't forget to purchase your tickets online. (The zoo is online purchase only right now)

I always have a good time at the events here. I went for the Brew at the Zoo event and it was cool. This event is perfect for a date night. I like that it is only open to 21+ so no kids running around. You pay $45 for six 4oz tastes of beers, you get a cute plastic mug and there are photo booths to take pictures all over the park and zookeeper talks at select animal exhibits. My favorite part of the zoo is the reptile house. We also ordered food. I got tacos, my friend got empanadas and my other friend got salad. It was all good.

Haven't ben to the zoo in about 10 years. Lots of new stuff. The price has increased considerably, but there is definitely more to see. You must currently buy tickets online. It was a hot day, and several of the big animals were in hiding. It's nice to have the buildings to go into to cool down. My grandson had fun. The dinosaur exhibit was cool. Overall a good time.

First time to the Houston Zoo. They still had it decorated for the Holidays. Really should check the schedule for next year and go to the Zoo Holiday Lights nights ( not sure what they are called but I could tell they put some effort into it). Guest's were respectful. A blend of mask and non-masks. Felt safe from a cleanliness aspect. Also need to plan to take grandson on the train.

Absolutely! Here's a 5-star review for the Houston Zoo: I recently visited the Houston Zoo and had an amazing experience! The zoo is incredibly clean and well-maintained, with beautiful exhibits and a wide variety of animals to see. The workers were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the animals in their care, and were more than happy to answer any questions we had. It was clear that the animals were well cared for and had plenty of space to roam, which made the entire experience even more enjoyable. Despite it being a busy day, the zoo never felt overcrowded and we were able to take our time exploring each exhibit. Overall, I highly recommend the Houston Zoo to anyone looking for a fun and educational day out. It's clear that the staff truly cares about the animals and ensuring that visitors have a great time. We will definitely be back!

I love the zoo. Their newest exhibit, the Galapagos Islands, is awesome. I go to the zoo frequently, I go both with friends and alone. I enjoy the exhibits greatly, my favorite is the primates. I can sit for a very long time watching them, and I believe that watching these animals has made me care about them/their natural habitats more. Some animal exhibits, notably the older ones, are less fun to look at. The big cats, like the tiger, are in pretty small spaces and end up pacing back and forth endlessly. The seals were in a container like this, without a lot of space, but they were recently moved to a fantastic space with the creation of the Galapagos exhibit. The Houston zoo is pretty good at keeping the animals in healthy environments, and I see them constantly working to make things better for the animals. The employees are very kind and many will stop and talk to me at length about the history or preferences of animals in the zoo. I love the big pretzels they sell at the zoo, even though they are $8.

It was Labor Day weekend when we visited this zoo. It was a super hot day so like the humans, the animals probably were trying to get some relief too, so many of the animals were not as active. Best to go early in the morning… bring an umbrella for shade and a portable fan. I like that there are many indoor exhibits peppered throughout the zoo to get some air conditioning relief! Lol. We loved the Galapagos exhibit. Overall it was a nice zoo. Easy to redeem Houston city pass. My only suggestion, the flow of the zoo was at times confusing to navigate without a map. Clearer signage would be helpful in certain parts. Would love to visit in the fall during the cooler months.

Fun zoo prices aren’t too high fun for the family and even for a date. The animals are easy to see and don’t have to spend your all time searching for them. Information and educational. OK loved it. Holiday lights is a little boring but fun experience at least once I like the reptile house nice selection of snakes and spiders. I haven’t seen the new Galapagos exhibit yet, but I’m excited to go soon to experience.

Nice to visit when the weather is cool, (we cane in December)! It seemed most all the animals were out & moving around which made it such an enjoyable experience. We had a few friends with us who had never been, so that was neat! They had all the Christmas light stuff out too, which is a great experience if you have a chance to go. But, it was neat getting to see it during the day!

Visiting the Houston Zoo with my 6-year-old son and his friend was an adventure we'll cherish forever. Nestled in the heart of Houston, this sprawling sanctuary offered us a day filled with wonder, laughter, and learning, showcasing over 6,000 animals in beautifully crafted habitats. It was like stepping into a new world, one where the wild wonders of the planet were just a few steps away. As we wandered through the zoo, spanning over 55 acres within Hermann Park, the excitement in the kids' eyes was palpable. Each exhibit brought us face-to-face with the incredible diversity of life on Earth. The African Forest section was particularly mesmerizing for us. Watching my son and his friend gaze in awe at the towering giraffes, their little hands stretched in the air as if trying to reach them, was a moment of pure joy. The Children's Zoo was an absolute hit. It was more than just an exhibit; it was a playground of discovery. The interactive zones, especially the petting area, allowed the boys to connect with the animals on a personal level, gently brushing the goats and marveling at the softness of their coats. Reflecting on our day at the Houston Zoo, it's clear that this was more than just an outing. It was an experience that enriched our souls, broadened our understanding of the natural world, and deepened our commitment to its preservation. Watching my son and his friend explore with wide-eyed wonder, I was reminded of the innate curiosity and joy that children bring to discovering the world around them. This visit wasn't just about seeing animals; it was about creating memories that will inspire a lifetime of curiosity and care for our planet. I left the zoo with a heart full of gratitude, already looking forward to our next visit.

The Houston zoo is really making exceptional changes to their looks. They are certainly adding plenty of space and places to see the beautiful mix of mammals, reptiles, avian, insect, and aquatic animals. It is so awesome. Not too terribly priced. This is a large zoo. It’s beautiful and each area has plenty to look at and be in awe of. I would recommend a membership. You will get your money’s worth out of getting it. Food and drink are not reasonable. Would recommend you having a picnic if you decide to go and save some money. Other than that they have really done a good job on their safety measures due to Covid. Plenty of hand sanitizer everywhere, soap in bathrooms, and masks are available on site should you forget yours. Would also recommend making reservations in order to get into the zoo quickly.

It’s much bigger than I expected! Definitely a nice zoo for family time! No wonder it’s crowded all the time. Got to see all kinds of amazing animals and got to the conclusion that God of these creations are indeed amazing 🤩 Enjoy the zoo time and have a nice walk in the area! Cheers 🥂

Hot Chocolate, S’mores, Fire Pits, & dozens of Instagrammable Photo Ops are just a few of the things you’ll find here. A few of our favorite displays were the 125 foot infinity tunnel, the Enchanted Forrest and the big JOY display at the far end of the promenade. Don’t forget to bring your old Christmas lights for donation. To date the Zoo has recycled over 20,000 pounds of donated holiday lights! Enjoy our photo gallery and feel free to reach out if you or anyone you know needs help buying or selling real estate!

We recently attended the annual Zoo Lights attraction at the Houston Zoo. The Christmas lights were impressive, admission costs were affordable, and their staff did a fantastic job ensuring a safe environment by maintaining practical social distancing protocols. We will absolutely be back next year to support the Houston Zoo and to, of course, enjoy the “Zoo Lights” with our friends, family, and kids! Thank you!

Plenty of seating if you need a break. Excellent place to learn and get exercise. Go enjoy and your ticket price will help care fir/feed the residents!!

Really nice place, lovely staff. All run on donations and you can tell they do the best they can to protect the animals and eventually set them free as all of them are rescued. Lots of rare species here. Pumas, condor, rare llamas (forgot the name), wild mountain cats, bears, turtles, red deer, monkeys, falcon, those lemur type things that make the world's most expensive coffee (also forgot the name). Overall lovely experience would highly recommend. Entrance is 15 soles but would recommend donating more as they do a good job.

We absolutely love the Houston zoo . I am a big fan of reptiles so it was a treat to watch them . It’s big ang you can spot most of the animals . Kids have enough play and activities area . Getting a parking slot in weekend is bit tough. So try reaching early.

The prettiest Zoo I have ever been to! I loved taking my daughter here for her birthday. My family had so much fun. There are tons of areas for kids to play. An employee was throwing apples to the elephants, and we loved being so close while watching them. I’m impressed with how spacious a lot their exhibits are, and nearly all of them you get a great view of the animals. Their animal care seems to be fantastic as well. Their cafeteria area is so beautiful inside and out. The food was great. They had their Halloween decor out, and it was so well-thought of and decorated wonderfully. We went on a rainy/cloudy school day… so the zoo was practically empty which was really convenient. I expected them to have some of their food stands and those type of things closed due to kids being back in school. Was bummed that their petting zoo was closed, tho. Overall, definitely going to get a membership, can’t wait to come back!

Had a wonderful experience at the zoo. The worst part is the parking. So, expect to duel for a parking spot, or walk rather far. My girlfriend and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary here. Had a lovely time learning about the animals, seeing the animals in person. This zoo has a lot of indoor exhibits as well, making for a decent experience in the Texas heat. As for the food, and refreshments: as expected it is expensive. Paid $7 for a souvenir cup though, and only had to pay $2 for refills, and I noticed they have water bottle refill stations. We went to the Cyprus something Cafe, and the food was regular cafeteria food. Good customer service. I don't understand how their order process works, but it does. Overall great experience, inside and outside the zoo at Herman Park. Definitely check out the paddle boats, especially on a hot day, only $12 per boat! Up to 4 people on a boat.

We had a lot of fun at the Zoo! Between me and my husband we walked the whole Zoo in 4hrs. Our favorite part was the Reptiles. It was hard to believe that such a beautiful Zoo exists in the middle of the city. Many of the animals were sleeping or off sight, but I don't blame them it was hot!!

By far one of the best zoos you will visit . If you are in Houston make sure you put this on your list of must dos . The animals are easy to see and are well taken care of . If you are a local I would recommend a membership , it's 100% worth it . Our favorite place to eat is by the giraffes. The buffalo wings are bomb. Don't feel like you have to have kids with you to enjoy the zoo . The Houston Zoo is gorgeous and offers beer on tap at most food establishments . They also offer really neat behind the scene adventure passes for people who want to be more immersed in the experience .

We haven't been since January 2020 and figured we would check it out. Upon arrival they don't sell tickets like they use to you actually have to purchase online. They don't offer a map unless you ask when you walk in. We arrived at 9:40am on a Tuesday and it wasn't crowded so we had plenty of room to walk up and actually see the animals. The Restaurants didn't open till 11ish and the lines weren't that bad. I do recommend bring lunches and drinks from home. We will next time we go. For 2 pepperoni pizzas and cheeseburger baskets were $58 that's with no drinks. (We brought our own water) they do have water stations where you can fill up your water bottles. Water taste ok, its filtered. Lines didn't start to back up till about noon. The first giraffe feeding is at 1. $7 for 3 pieces of lettuce and lines starts to form early. Over all we had a good time but personally I like the San Antonio zoo better.

THE BEST OF THE BEST! We're so fortunate to have such an incredible Zoo in this city. You can tell how much effort goes into to keep this place a spectacular place to go multiple times a year. Great events throughout the year. Amazed on how it is always so much fun to visit here even if you've been here 30 or more times already. Always experiencing something new reach visit.

The Houston Zoo was a really good zoo experience for our family of 7. We I've been to the New Orleans Zoo in Baton Rouge Zoo and others in the South and this one is equal if not better than the rest. It has overpriced food but that almost goes without being said. There were elephants and all kinds of other exotic creatures. Overall it was a good time for us.

Stopped on our way out of Houston… and the zoo did not disappoint! The place is clean and spacious, and the food is great. There are many path options to take, so that you don’t have to follow the crowds. The zoo was all decorated for the Boo event and it looked fabulous. The animals received pumpkin treats and our kids thoroughly enjoyed checking out who got which carved design. There are animal talks, a petting zoo, giraffe feeding, and so many other things to do! Some of the animals are pretty “far back” from standing area, but others are close.. for safety reasons obviously. It was as good or better than any other zoo we have seen, and we have been to plenty! The staff members were also walking around, interacting with guests and providing cool information about the animals and their habitats.

Came to see the Zoo Lights while visiting Houston for the weekend. Purchased tickets the same day on a Saturday night. The only tickets left were for the 9pm timeslot, but this worked out as the crowd thinned out as the zoo was closing at 10:30pm. It was very easy to take pictures of the different light scenes and decorations. The lights were well done and perfectly transitioned between each area. There was not one area of the zoo that was not lit up nicely. All the lights were very bright and creatively put together. There was also a nice use of reflective paint that lit up similar to the lights. Throughout the park, there were nice food and drink stations to purchase while walking around the zoo. There was not a set direction or path to walk, so you were able to see the different areas at your own pace and discretion. Walking at an average pace it took about an hour to walk throughout the zoo.

Went there for the Holiday Lights. This was done nicely and it was put together well. The crowds were well managed with the scheduled entry times and it wasn't overly packed. The night I went was chilly but added to the intent of the holiday lights. It was good fun. No animals are viewable so not sure how the zoo is doing during the winter months but I have been there in the summer time and the zoo is nice and well managed as well.

One of my favorite zoos that I have ever been to! It’s huge and get ready to have an amazing time. Pick a suitable day since you’ll be spending a lot of time under the sun outdoors. Lots of fun activities for all ages. My favorite was the giraffe feeding it’s so much fun! Also liked the petting zoo, great if you love a hands on experience at the zoo. Cafeteria food is affordable and delicious too!

What a terrific zoo! The main reason for yesterday's visit was to see the new Galapagos Island exhibit and it did not disappoint! It was amazing and we got to hear them talk about the sea lions and watch them get treats. We also heard about the exhibit itself and all the features it has. Beyond the sea lion pool was a wonderful exhibit of other island wildlife. So much fun to wander through and see the other animals and sea life. The rest of the zoo is also a winner! Not only are the exhibits very well done, but there is plenty of seating to relax and just enjoy the environment. The primates, elephants, giraffes, and birds were my favorite. The landscaping adds to the overall feel. Well done!

Be careful, it may be too hot and humid to visit during the summer as we did, but the experience itself was pretty good. I am an optimist, so I just imagined being on a safari in the jungles or something 🤣 But I would not recommend going there during excessive heat; otherwise, you will have a mixed experience of joy and suffering. Be prepared to pay extra 9 bucks for three salad leaves if you want to get close to the giraffes 😬 Not all animals were there, especially some big cats and rhinos. But maybe they are just smarter than us and stayed in the shadows 😅 Overall, it was a very cool and educational journey!

The Galapagos exhibit is a must see. There, one can see a different habitat from the regular ones from the Zoo. They are remodeling all over the zoo and that is good as it needed a few touch up. There is plenty of places to refill your water as long as you bring a cup or your water bottle and many restrooms are now placed all over. Due to the heat, some animals are not seen as they are inside their own pen/enclosure and the zoo really does keep their animals cooled as I saw fans and water sprayed.

Such a beautiful zoo - even in the Texas summer heat the zoo provides lots of shaded areas. The animals are nice and close, which allowed my 15 month old to engage. We spent roughly 5 hours there but could have stayed longer. Be sure to bring lots of drinks with you as they are pricey in the park.

I always love going here! There's so much to see! I also love how they're adding new stuff and fixing things. They added the underground seal exhibit. Which kind of scared me because being under the water made me feel like I was drowning! But that's not a bad thing, I'm just scared of water haha. It was so cool seeing the seals swim above you! This is a perfect place to bring family or friends or just yourself. The workers are always willing to help and on a weekday it's not as busy as it would be on the weekend. There are plenty of bathrooms with air conditioning. And there's a lot of different places you can refill a bottle of water. However, I wish the refill of water areas had actually cooled cold water but at least they're available for free. One of my favorite parts is near the petting zoo, there's this silly cow there that loves to have its neck pet! The only thing I don't really care about the zoo is definitely the drive there, but that's not the zoo's fault. Sometimes parking can be a little difficult. Other than that this is a perfect place to go!

We went on Thanksgiving Day after we had dinner. There were more people than I had expected but it was still a relatively small crowd. There were so many different locations and variations of lights that everything felt fresh and the fake snow was a really great touch. They had little smore sections and my kids really enjoyed that. This is definitely a tradition we want to keep up in future years.

I’m born and raised in Houston since late 70’s. And for me this is the best the Houston Zoo has ever been. For the past 20 years there has been major improvements and additions added. I’m very proud to recommend to visitors to the city. Weekends and school holidays can get very crowded and hard to find parking. There is plenty of family friendly sections and photo ops. Food is good. And they serve local beers. All over priced but standard for city pricing or a ballpark. The earlier in the day you go the more animals you will see. If you visit in the spring or summer when it’s crazy hot. The animals will be sleeping or hiding from the heat.

The zoo is always a fun time, but during covid its diffrent. You must purchase your tickets online before going. No big deal. But you, still have a horrible line to wait in once you arrive. Parking took 30+ minutes. Indoor exhibits are limited people, so another line to stand in. I had purchased the unlimited carousel ride but they have half the seats marked off, and wipe down the seats after every go round (with same rag, sorta defeats the purpose if you ask me) having known the wait time to ride once was 1hrs time I would've only purchased a single ride.. overall its enjoyable just spend you time wisely and map out your zoo route before going. Oh dont forget arrive sooner than planned to find parking!

I would wait for the day of and buy at the gate to make sure weather was good. Of course the wrath weather was bad and we couldn’t go. $100 down the drain and they don’t do rain checks!! If you make is buy ahead of time we should get rain checks.

It was a good experience despite the pandemic (some people still having trouble understanding what social distancing means... or maybe they're forgetting to do it??🤔 ). They have plenty of benches and a cafe where you can rest, which you'll probably need to do bc it's a good walk. The only thing that disappointed me was no Aussie wildlife. I understand no arctic wildlife bc we're in Texas, but no 'roos? 😏

As an animal lover, this is definitely by far the best Zoo I've been to. (Of course I don't like the idea of animals held in captivity). Compared to San Antonio, Austin, and other smaller zoos I've been in the Texas area, I hands down LOVE how this Zoo goes above and beyond to give their animals spacious enclosures with interactive environments, toys, and in some cases, a mixed ecosystem. Aside from that, There's plenty of snack booths and an On Site Cafe for cool drinks on hot days and hot cocoa and coffee for cold days! All in addition toGift Shops spaced apart for convenience, a good amount of Interactive things to do for families, great activities (feeding the giraffes/ aquatic life, ect), along with enough animals and activites too spend a day for upward of 2 or 4 hours!!!

We attempted to go to the zoo today, followed the instructions provided and arrived at our designated time. Once we got there we realized: THEY ARE NOT FOLLOWING ANY SAFETY PROTOCOLS. People where on top of each other waiting in line to enter the zoo— not one person was social distancing. It was SO CROWDED. The parking lot was over crowded. You could breathe the same sneeze from the person next to you. PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY ON PURCHASING TICKETS. They don’t give refunds or exchange. What they’ve created here is the perfect breeding ground for COVID spreading.

This is one of the best zoos I have been to. The zookeepers are always friendly and great to chat too. It is nice to see the enclosures are getting over hauled If you have any issues with zoos I recommend looking into the AZA (association of zoos and aquarium). They have a lot of regulations and when done correctly zoos are great learning tools and help people see why natural environments need to be conserved. This zoo in particular has a great rehabilitation and breeding program

Love coming here when visiting my grandkids. Right now you do have to wear a mask at all times except when eating. They also have markers for 6 ft social distancing. These are enforced by the employees. I saw multiple people told to pull their masks up. However, most were compiling with their covid policies. It's a beautiful zoo and easy to navigate. Would've given 5 stars but close to closing I heard and saw some employees being a little moe rude than necessary telling people to leave.

Set aside 3-4 hours to go around the zoo completely. Elephants, bears, tiger and lions were the highlights. Seems like bears don’t come out during the winters and are usually inside their caves. If you’re lucky, you might spot one. Idk if it was cz of the weather or what.. but most of the animals were sleepy or tired when I visited. Definitely a place to go in Houston. Do check out the City Pass if you’re planning to visit other attractions in the City.

VERY EXPENSIVE $4 for a small kids drink! make sure to hit the lottery before coming here. Other than that, very nice facilities, just a bit confusing on the layout. The people at the carousel and the Cafe need to work at a mcdonalds in the bad side of town because they talk to you like you are children and and just tired of their jobs. gift shop was well kept wit nice employees.

A simple attraction that can be visited and several species of animals can be seen. Favorite was the Red Panda and Gorillas. It was cooler, so several animals were enclosed, but the layout allows some views of the most popular exhibits.

Must watch if you are visiting Houston. Well maintained and there are large variety of animals, reptiles, birds, bugs and fishes. Book a complete day if you are planning to visit Houston zoo. Carry strollers for your kids since it is spread across a large area. Enjoy the carousel as well. Don't miss feeding the giraffe it is an amazing experience to see the animal so close to you.

Been here, already like 6 times. There's enough places to have your toddler run a round for a bit and enough place to sit and enjoy the view. They are requiring timed entry to “allow for social distancing” but the lines are still very long. We skipped the indoor exhibits (reptile house, nocturnal animals, insects) because of the long wait. The baby elephant, Nelson, was the highlight of my day. The NW portion of the property is under construction - I can’t wait to see what they turn it into! For now, the zoo feels a little small. Free parking is a big plus. $22 entry for an adult.

We were very pleased to enjoy this fun escape from 2020 stress with our family. I like the designated arrival times for Zoo Lights. It was definitely less full than usual. They spaced the attractions apart well. We zoomed past the light tunnel, food/bar and the indoor attractions as there were SO many people packed around/ in line and many without masks. Would've preferred staff around or at least frequent announcements to wear masks. But overall, felt very safe and had a good time.

I've been before and had an amazing time. This time though, there's alot of the park under construction, alot the kids can't do anymore due to the pandemic like feed the giraffes and the kids petting zoo. On top of that,, over half the animals weren't out. We went as a safe way to get our 3 year out of the house while still social distancing. We will go back once things get back to normal because my kids love it and normally have an amazing time but personally, this time wasn't fun at all.

This place has a great potential but honestly it looks poorly managed. This place could become a theme 🏞️ like Disney, there were thousands of people there $$ and no ambient 🎵, the animals looked drugged, few areas closed, the food needs improvement. Thanks to the 🐘 and 🦒 we could enjoy a zoo. Outside riding boats on the lake and the mini train was great, it was a great day after all, but needs a Capitalist there to take over the fun.

Feeding the giraffes was expensive, but fun. Many displays were under construction. Employees patrolled the park forcing people to keep masks on. I tried to drink from my water bottle and was told to move off the path, stop, then remove my mask to drink. We didn't stay long. It was not enjoyable. I spent $22 to be chastised and annoyed. I get paid for enduring that at work!

We bought a membership and didn't really understand everything about it. We showed up without making a reservation and it was no problem. The gentleman at Member Services was very patient and kind explaining everything. The visit was so enjoyable and so many animals to see plus we even had fun watching two jubilee elephants play with one another!! I would like to add that it would be a good idea to update the menu of the Cafe' as they sell things that are not on the menu. That would have prevented us from wasting about half an hour or more going in circles only to find out it was at the Cafe' we had been to first but left because it wasn't listed on the menu. All for a hungry boy wanting his corn dog! Once we did get our food though, it was delicious!

Free day Tuesday. Zoo Personnel were very courteous. Reptile house was too warm, inside, and may not be a good idea with the dimmed lighting, and the virus. Disappointed that the Sea Lion exhibit was closed. I wanted to see Jonah! I knew there would be drawback. The Elephant exhibit reeked of urine, even through masks. It was a positive place for Mother- Daughter time together.

One of the best zoos in texas and for good reason. The best way I can describe this is that the houston zoo is the san antonio zoo except a bit larger and better planned out. There is very little backtracking to do and all of the animals are placed in very logical areas. Due to the size of the zoo, even though there were a lot of people present, it never felt cramped, even in buildings like the reptile house. As for the animal collection, it was excellent with the animals living in attractive, well-sized exhibits. The only thing missing from the reptile collection is more crocodilians, monitor lizards and birds but the zoo itself is amazing regardless. The mammal and reptile collection in particular really impressed me. The zoo is located in Hermann park, which itself is huge and has plenty of free parking. I highly recommend this to all zoo-enthusiasts.

Other than that my family always enjoy visiting that zoo as members.

Great experience at the Houston Zoo with our child. You'll definitely want to show up early like 9am/10am to make sure you find a parking spot. The weather was in the 70s so we were able to see the animals out and about. Bring your child here and let them enjoy the animals and maybe learn a little bit about them, we are not the only beings on this planet that will suffer from climate change!

A whole day out.... Colchester Zoo is a fantastic zoo. The grounds and enclosures are really well maintained and spotless all around. Get some comfy shoes on as this is a big zoo and lots of hills to climb. The kids, adults and grandparents will all love it. You are never too old for the zoo. Highly recommended.

An amazing zoo and well worth the money. The staff were all fantastic, friendly and kind. They have worked hard to comply with all the health and safety measures as well as making all the zoo accessible. The animal enclosures are all exceptional and the animals all looked relaxed, calm and happy. Had a really great day!

Fantastic Christmas themed day out at the zoo. The Madagascar train ride was great for big and small kids alike. Very easy to social distance and lots of Covid safe measures in place.

This is a fantastically compact zoo, suitable for all ages. Everything is easily accessible. The staff are always friendly and you can get right up close to most of the animals. Set in the beautiful Essex hills, it's a place to escape to for the day. Themed in such a way that it could feel a little like an amusement park, rather than just feeling like a huge field with fences around animals. Well worth the yearly membership.

This is one of the best zoos to visit. Please support it when the lockdown restrictions are lifted. It costs so much to run the zoo and every penny counts. An amazing place for young and old to get up close to some of nature's most wonderful animals. The work and development of the zoo speaks volumes for what they are trying to achieve, we have been many many times and there is never a dull moment.

  • 5/5 Ian Y. 3 years ago on Google
Large variety of animals kept in humane conditions. Lots of opportunities to see keepers with with their animals. Grounds kept in immaculate condition and very pretty to walk around. Since the first lockdown, I have taken a walk past the zoo roughly once a week. Although now closed, you can still see reindeer, pigs, horses and donkeys in adjacent fields. During the first lockdown one enclosure housed llamas and alpacas, followed by all the goats in the zoo.

What a brilliant time was had here for my daughter's seventh birthday treat. Such excellent value for money. Lovely animals loads to do for kids and excellent facilities. The many cafes in site were so clean and full of choice and priced very good. Have a lovely day here and can't wait to come again even though it's two hours from our home. Very helpful friendly staff and all the animals and enclosures were well looked after. We learnt a lot of facts too. Would recommend everyone visit here. Would give a hundred stars of I could. Definitely buying a season ticket gold card. Thank you for making my daughter's birthday weekend special. Covid safe and plenty of places to wash and sanitise your hands. Well done Colchester zoo xx

A great day out for the family. The zoo has a wonderful collection of animals with new arrivals throughout the year (helping conservation). Our favourite area is the African animals where you can see Rhino (including 2 babies), Giraffe and Elephants. The facilities are well looked after and the catering offering is good. Currently there is a one way system in operation to aid social distancing. You do need to pre-book - social media channels will let you know when tickets are released. Definitely worth a visit.

After spending a disappointing time at the aquarium my boyfriend and I decided to go visit the zoo to cheer me up. It was my first time visiting the zoo and I really enjoyed it! It’s a really large zoo with so many animals to see. There’s a petting zoo that unfortunately was not open at the time but you could feed giraffes! The zoo is very clean and staff was very nice and helpful as well. We spent 2 1/2 hours there and it was well worth it! Definitely will be added to my list of favorites to visit again.

May be because of the winter storm, but our visit was nor as good as past times. Most plants are dry (withered) and some exhibits were closed. Some of the ponds look like they need better maintenance or running fountains to keep the water clear. That said, in this cooler weather, walking through the zoo is really nice. The trees and their shadows were great. The little bunnies running around near the monkey cages were really cute. Paddle boats and cafe next to the zoo are a good addition to the visit.

Truly a fantastic experience. Highlight of our time in Cusco. Just getting there by taxi was worth it, you get to see some beautiful views. The sanctuary itself was outstanding, you really get the feeling that everyone working there loves their work. They take such good care of the rescued animals many of which have beev saved from terrible lives and are now recuperating living a much better life. Highly recommended experience.

  • 5/5 Sean R. 4 years ago on Google
First time at the sanctuary, the tour guide was very informative and all the staff were very friendly. A lot of culture is shared within the tour. You get to see how alpaca yarn colors are made from different materials. You get to see first hand the talent that goes into making the beautiful designs. The condors were amazing! If you are a culture and animal lover, make this venue part of your trip if you're in the Saqsaywaman area!.

  • 5/5 Alexis D. 4 years ago on Google
Wow!!!!! We absolutely loved it here. Organised a private tour and they picked us up at our hotel and we were walked around the sanctuary and allowed to meet all the animals. They’re doing such incredible work and it’s so nice to give back to people who are so invested in looking after the native endangered species. We were lucky enough to even see a baby jaguar!

We came to Peru with our son, and his Peruvian wife and daughter. Our granddaughter at 10 years old was a champ following the "old people" around to all the ancient sites, walking up mountains and around town but she loves animals so we decided to treat her to a visit here. She was thrilled and we were impressed WAY beyond our expectations. Alberto's love for, knowledge of and passionate commitment to caring for the animals is nothing short of inspiring. This is not a job for him it is who he is. He knows each animal personally and treats them as the equals they are. From the bears to the condors and puma, from the monkeys to the birds, and Cooper, Alberto's dog who follows him to work each day and waits with him all day this experience will bring a smile to your face. In addition to the animal experience, we LOVED the gift shop and the demonstration of weaving. Make this your shopping place for quality alpaca items and silver at very good prices. And when you are done have a quick and delicious lunch at the little cafe. The profits from everything are split to support the center (50%) and the surrounding community (50%). WE could not have been happier and look forward to seeing pictures of the aviary Alberto will be building this year.

  • 5/5 Jessica A. 4 years ago on Google
I went for the condors and feel in love with everything else. They are truly majestic. the volunteers are amazing and truly passionate anot this wonderful and much needed animal reserve. I read a bag review regarding cage size and yes they could be a bit bigger or more modern but it seems to be these people are doing the best they can for these animals and truly car and love what they do. Definetly worth a visit!

This is a fantastic zoo, but like so much else these days, come prepared to spend a good deal of quid. We spent the day here, arriving early and leaving in the mid-afternoon, and in the midst of it ate at one of the various diners in the park. For a family of five it was $87 for a few burgers and drinks! Even so, it was a great little adventure with much fun to be had :)

  • 4/5 A R. 2 years ago on Google
Came for Brews at the Zoo and it was a blast! The staff was friendly and helpful. We loved seeing the nocturnal animals out and about. We even got to see the sloth move around and eat (which was a first!) The only complaint is it's super expensive and there's a bit of construction going on. The new Panama exhibit is really cool though so we're looking forward to the new additions!

  • 4/5 Jaeden S. 2 years ago on Google
It's a good zoo and all but nothing has really changed, for example some of the animals there have been there since I was 9 and that's long. The zoo doesn't really have anything new and every time I visit it's getting boring because I already know what's there. But if you are visiting it for the first time it will be fun, they have a lot of animals.

  • 4/5 Jose G J. 2 years ago on Google
The day was nice enough to be out and I hadn't been here in so long. A lot has changed. There is some construction being done walking in from the entrance but it's not too bad. Elephants were getting ready to go for a swim and most of the time other animals were probably eating. It started getting hot and then the rain came. Still had a good time. They are getting things ready for holloween so bring the kids for the boo in the zoo.

We had an incredible time at the Houston Zoo! This was my first ever zoo experience and I will say I was completely happy with it! I love the Houston Zoo! I recommend purchasing a Zoo membership if you go often or with large groups! I got the one that allows me plus like 10 guest or something! It’s great! Plus you get an extra discount at the gift shops!

Always a fun outing for dates or family. Reasonably priced with great exhibits though we definitely recommend you go in fall or early spring to beat the heat. Food is typical of a zoo. Neat park next door and Miller Outdoor Theater is across from this and worth rounding out your evening!

Beautiful walking paths within the trees. Perfect November day to stroll around and spy on the animals. Not crowded at all on this Wednesday morning when the zoo opened. I would have given it 5stars but the lady at the ticket counter would not sell me a ticket. Said i had to do it on my phone.

Had a fun filled day at the zoo! Walked till your legs fell off and we saw every animal. Not a very easy zoo to navigate not enough signs out telling you were to go. Not a fan of everything online as your phone does pretty quickly. Enjoyed getting our photo taken as soon as we got in. It was nice having everyone in the photos. Such pretty trees all over. We all enjoyed the life sized dens of all the different animals. We also got to enjoy seeing all the lights set up.

Really enjoyed the day here. A wonderful zoo with much to see and do - more than a day's worth if you spend any time at all at each spot. My little hometown zoo has a reciprocal agreement that saved me 50% on entry. Fantastic deal!

Always a pleasure visiting the Zoo with the lil one. The bushes and trees need maintenance though so the animals can be viewed better but overall experience was good. This time we started the day early at 10 AM and managed to cover the entire zoo by 4 PM. We carried a few snacks from home and had our lunch at the Cafe.

Zoo Lights was very pretty. There are no animal exhibits open, although we did get to see the giraffes playing. We chose the 9pm entry, and we're able to stay until closing at 10:30pm. There are concession stands available if you're hungry. The hot chocolate is very yummy. Good place for the family and plenty of photo ops.

The lights were beautiful. The most crowded areas were the children's area, and at the entrance to the chimpanzee area. Our entry time was 8:30 and we had about a 2 minute wait to get thru the line. I had the map from my email, and did not see any paper maps. So be sure to you have access to that, if you want a map. Following the route arrows is another plus. The parking lot was full and we parked in the Natural Science garage. Be aware of that. It is quite a walk if that might be an issue for you. It was fun. I'm glad we went. For me I think once is enough. But that being said, it was very beautiful. I enjoyed it.

We went to the Houston Zoo for the Great Strides Walk benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The animals are great but they were all put to bed. We enjoyed. The Zoo Lights so very much! It was stunning. What a great way to feel the holiday spirit! We highly recommend going. With worth it! I it was a lovely place to have the Great Strides Walk!!

Depending on when you go you might have trouble finding a parking space even if you go early in the morning is hard to find parking close, the price of admission in on par with other Zoo's of the same size. the only thing that i'm not a fan of is the price of food but that is just the norm with places like this, edible high priced burgers, but overall is a great place to take the kids or even a date to spend the day. bring comfortable shoes because you will be walking a few miles to see all the animals they have.

I have not been inside the Houston zoo in a very long time. My 9 y/o daughter really enjoyed seeing all the animals. There is sooo much to see. I really really was shocked by the number of elephant 🐘 and giraffes 🦒 that are there. I'm not sure if 1-1:30 pm is right after lunch time but some of the animals were napping and not budging to entertain us. We grabbed a snack and I felt it was reasonably priced. In all I enjoyed it and plan to do so lights next year.

Great Zoo, my kids and I enjoyed our visit and loved the unlimited Carousel ride option. Can't wait to go back next year 2023, to see the finished construction. The train ride outside the Zoo was also nice around Herman Park.

There are a few areas still being worked on but nothing too disruptive. I was looking forward to see the gorillas in their habitat area, which they were not, so we walked to the viewing room and there they were. It was an incredibly close view of the gorillas who were playing and being mischievous. It was wild to see them so closely. The admission price seems a bit steep but at least you can bring in drinks and snacks. The kids play area was a big hit with my nephew. The elephant experience is very cool. The tiger seemed anxious and made me wonder just how much space is enough. But the exhibits are great here and worth the trip if you want to see animals up close, or a little one who needs an activity. They have stroller rentals too.

Good place for an all day family friendly experience. Lots of fun animals. The elephants and wild cats were really amusing. I recommend going late afternoon else most of cats will probably be napping out of sight. Couple notes: it's often busy so get ready for the line. Parking is also pretty hard.

Great zoo!! So many animals that seem to be really well taken care of. My kiddos (7 & 3) had a blast! Cute little carousel and we even got to feed a giraffe! The staff was really nice and helpful. Super clean bathrooms and a couple family restroom too! We went on a Free Tuesday and because it was so big and open it didn't seem too crowded despite there being a TON of people. The food court kind of sucked. We waited a long time for some burgers and they were serving people in the back of the line who hadn't paid yet first, but not the 6 people that had already paid and left the line.

Lovely day out. Great staff who are extremely friendly and knowledgeable with some amazing stories! The young ladies by the black bear exhibit had an informative and interesting game! Thank you Houston zoo and patrons for giving us such a lovely experience!

I suggest going in the morning or on a cool day. Animals were cool to see. Fun interactive things along the paths for the kids too. Parking wasn't bad in the morning.

  • 5/5 Brian H. 1 year ago on Google
Very nicely done exhibits and friendly staff. The animals all appear to be well cared for. They did a great job creating spacious enclosures with a natural looking environment. The pictures tell the story. Arriving early has helped find parking because the lots fill up quickly even though they are large. The good news however, is that the parking is free. I visited couple of times with family, so my membership has paid for itself.

I visited a few times already and this zoo is cute to take a walk with my little girl. The staff is always so welcoming and friendly. The zoo is a decent size, clean and well organized. You really can't get lost here is easy to follow. They have cool exhibits and great information for each animal. I enjoyed one of the resting areas where they have benches of butterfly shapes. I also love seeing after a few years some of the same elephants still at this location. I enjoy coming here everytime. We came during a weekday so it wasn't crowded. I would suggest coming in the morning to get good parking and less of a hot and sweaty walk.

This experience was amazing.. There is even a chance to feed the giraffes that was great for the kids. The covered areas, fans and cooling stations made it pleasant in the 100 temperature. Coolers are welcome which made it nice to have a lunch and drinks all day

3 stars for the good work they do. Other than that, it seems like some of the cages are too small. It feels wrong. The cats and red panda are adorable.

Outside of San Diego I firmly believe the Houston Zoo is the best in the country!! We bought a membership and our son loves going year round. The holidays are especially nice as the Houston Zoo decorates and has events for each. Zoo Boo was super fun! As always, parking was easy and the zoo is super clean. Staff and animals are perpetually happy!!

Lots of renovations going down. Nice experience but not much going on. Cute animals. Pleasant day strolling through giraffes and lions and elephants. If you aren't a member you do have to purchase tickets online. Zoo was only open until 4 pm. Kind of odd. It was $122 for me and 4 teenagers, which seems kinda high. We didn't see any family package deals. None of the restaurants were open and the only food stand available was a pretzel. We were there from 12-4 and there was no feedings or showings of animals. No interactions. Would prefer more interactive next time and more education. The petting zoo could be better.

Great zoo to visit, so glad to be able to see the Galapagos Exhibit was finished and open. The Circle Cafe there is pretty good as well. The exhibits are pretty well done and even if the animals aren't very active you can still see most of them.

  • 5/5 hanieh n. 9 months ago on Google
Nice place to go but i think it is much better to go in the morning, we went there around noon and till the end many of animals where tired or not doing anything special. Also there are some specific time and shows each week and u can search them om the site and choose among them. For me the snakes and bugs were so special and it was a large variety of them.

  • 5/5 Keoni S. 10 months ago on Google
I've been to a lot of zoos around the world. This zoo is my favorite. Buying tickets online was easy. It was not over priced. Parking was easy, even on the weekend. The staff was kind and helpful. There are many exhibits, so it's definitely worth your money. What amazed me most was how clean and well maintained every exhibit was. This zoo is great for the whole family. There's a lot to cover so be prepared to get your 10,000 steps in!

  • 5/5 Victor L. 9 months ago on Google
I had a great time at the zoo. The animals were all well-cared for and seemed to be enjoying themselves. The exhibits were clean and well-maintained, and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I especially enjoyed the giraffe enclosure, where I got to see the giraffes up close. I would definitely recommend this zoo to anyone looking for a fun and educational outing.

Lots to see at this zoo. Impressed by the number of species and the different areas how they had them split up. It was a busy crowded and hot day but still Pleasant because there were places to get in the shade and plenty of room to get around other people. Give yourself a couple of hours for sure.

  • 5/5 Lindsey W. 8 months ago on Google
The best zoo in Texas! We were there on a summer morning, but surprisingly all of the animals were out to view. A lot of the zoo is covered which makes the heat a little less of an issue. Food and drink prices were high, but I guess as long as people pay them they won't adjust. Our favorite exhibit was the gorillas.

  • 5/5 Jodi H. 8 months ago on Google
Hot- but definitely fun. Such a variety of animals! Definitely crowded. I didn’t know Tuesdays are free so yeah busy packed. They do a great job of creating shade and displays indoors to get us out of the heat. Wear comfy clothes/shoes, sunglasses, hat and you can bring a cooler! Plus free parking

  • 4/5 Yunita T. 7 months ago on Google
Nice view. We can see some kinds of animals here though not so many. It was summer when I was there, so it's pretty hot to walk around the zoo, except in the indoor attraction (Galapano Island), which is cool

  • 5/5 Furqan S. 7 months ago on Google
It was a hot summer day, so many animals were resting or inside. But Houston Zoo is great for a park that is right in the middle of the town. The reptiles section was the best. It's a must a visit for anyone in Houston for a trip. There's enough parking as well.

  • 5/5 Nikolas M. 7 months ago on Google
Great visit. Place has plenty to offer in sights. Great variety of animals from sea to safari. FYI if you get government aid like SNAP you can get discounted tickets.

Great spot to see some incredible animals, support conservation efforts, and get some walking in. It's located within Hermann Park. There's plenty of free parking. The zoo keepers walking around are very knowledgeable and kind. The exhibits are compact and close together, there's a lot of shade, and several areas (like the new galapagos area) are indoors with blasting AC, making it a viable option even in the heat of the summer. We spent about 3 hours here and saw most things, but it probably would've taken us 4 hours to see everything. There's some handy pamphlets at the front with a schedule of events throughout the day like elephant baths.

I love this zoo!! It has great exhibits and the grounds are beautiful! We went on a 102* day and it tolerable with all the shade trees and air conditioned exhibits. The cafeteria has good food too!!

Fantastic. Loved the new Galapagos island area. Also appreciated the water bottle refill areas. The staff was super friendly and happily shared information. Over all a great day at the Zoo.

Amazing magical place!! Animals are very well taken care of. My favorite exhibit was GALAPAGOS.!! it is definitely a must if you come. They also have food and beverages as well as beer. I will come back again.

We had an awesome time! I was impressed by how clean it was, and how many different types of animals were there. It was during the early afternoon, so many of the animals were laying down or trying to stay cool. I would recommend feeding the Giraffes, that was an awesome experience. We'll definitely be back when it's cooler.

The new sea lion exhibit was something special. To be able to see them swim all around and above you is amazing. The sea lions definitely enjoy showing off! This zoo by far is texas best looking zoo! The animals habitats were next level.

The Houston Zoo is great. It's nice that you can park for free. We parked in lot G and had a very short walk to the gate. This lot does fill very quickly, though. They scanned our tickets, and we were in. It seemed like you were closer to the animals than at other zoo's. The primate area was probably my favorite.

  • 5/5 Caleb P. 5 months ago on Google
Unfortunately we visited on a day where a few of our favorite exhibits were closed for cleaning (sea lions, otters). Overall it's an exceptional zoo with incredibly large exhibits for the animals. A great use of space that makes the zoo feel even larger than it is. A wide variety of animals and the staff were friendly.

  • 4/5 Akua B. 5 months ago on Google
The parking situation is so terrible, they share with the park and the museum. We waited 30 minutes to get to the parking lot, and then there were no spots. We had to go park in the hospital parking and had to walk 15 min to the zoo and pay for the parking. So frustrating. The zoo itself was great. Some area was closed off, and they closed early for some event, which was annoying. So I took off a star for that and the parking.

Such a great experience as always. Animals were out and mostly active. I’d like more bears, but that’s a me thing. Park was clean, staff is ever friendly, and we had a wonderful family day out. We didn’t get to see Galápagos Islands because there was a line though, hopefully next time!

  • 4/5 Emily P. 4 months ago on Google
Great zoo experience with many different animals. Easy to navigate within the zoo with the provided map, be prepared to walk quite a bit in order to cover most animals. Parking was chaotic though, as the closest parking space did not have enough space and we drove around for 30mins plus to secure a space.

  • 5/5 Rebecca P. 4 months ago on Google
Really enjoyed the zoo. Went on a Monday with SO and bonus child! She fights going to daycare so I figured I would take her to do something fun! I liked that it was not crowded! Grabbed a pretzel with cheese and a vanilla latte from a stand. It was good! Definitely recommend the Houston Zoo!

My Parents & I took my daughter for one of her birthday gifts to the zoo. She is 1 & absolutely loved looking & pointing at all the animals. Parking was insane! You definitely have to get there real early, like an hr before,or you'll be driving around looking for a spot. Food & drinks were a bit on the expensive side. I enjoyed making memories with my family.

This zoo had amazing exhibits for elephants, chimpanzees and gorillas - what was unique about them were how many animals were there and their social dynamic. My son also enjoyed other animals, especially the lion exhibit and feeding the giraffes. We also saw the holiday night lights which were quite amazing as well with all the different animal lanterns lit up. Highly recommend going here!

Came here for the seasonal Zoo Lights. We got them pickets online ahead of time. There was still a long line but didn’t take very long. Fun time with the many different themes and music. There are cute s’mores stations in a few places. We had a nice time walking and enjoys the sights and sounds of the season.

  • 4/5 Stephanie W. 3 months ago on Google New
The weather was nice. The zoo was decorated for Zoo Lights and at night, I’m sure the display is awesome. There is a new seal display, which is a big improvement over the previous seal dwelling. There did not seem to be many animals actually out. There were the giraffes, rhinos, elephants, a few gorillas, two eagles, flamingoes, and the jaguar. I visited the petting zoo and saw (and petted), the goats, mainly. I wasn’t as impressed with the zoo, as I didn’t see many actual animals. The tiger’s habitat was being cut back (some of the trees), so I didn’t see those, but did have an opportunity to see the lions. I expected to see more or have more of an experience.

The whole family had a lovely time wandering through the zoo (parents, 15yo, 4yo, and infant). The new Galapagos exhibit is awesome. We also really enjoyed the bug house. Some of the animals were not out in their exhibits because it was chilly on the day we went, but we still had a great time!
