I always enjoy going to the zoo and the other events that they have like zoo lights are worth it it's not as small as you would worry it would be. You are allowed to bring your own food and snacks into the zoo so long as you don't throw it at the animals in an attempt to be that tourist. All in all it's a great place to go and they keep it very well maintained. Sadly the lions and a few of the other exhibits have passed in the last couple of years and not been replaced.

It’s a good zoo. We went during weekdays and in the afternoon, some animals already retreated to their shelters. Some exhibits were under renovation, or just simply unavailable. We couldn’t see the rhinos or zebras. There are many animal statue-like figures scattered around the zoo for the evening light shows. Apparently, you can’t stay if you didn’t have the night tickets. I think this one has less animal exhibits than Oakland Zoo, but it was still a fun experience, as long as the kids liked it.

Haven't been in 19 years. It was a great time. Got here at 10 am on a Saturday. Parked right up front. Walked the whole park in 4 hours. Great exercise and beautiful animals. Was pretty packed when we left at 245pm. Overall excellent day!

My kids and family, we all loved the LA Zoo Lights show, its fun and entertaining for all ages! This is a walk through experience, so you will have to walk a lot and it's cold, vaccination card is required, be prepared. There is food inside and outside the zoo, restrooms 🚻 around the tour, so, no excuses, enjoy. Enough parking spaces. Highly recommended 👌 👍.

I was kind of disappointed. First time in 20 years going, it's probably not good to go in the off season after a global pandemic. A lot of things were closed or run down. Various displays had no animals. The good stuff though were the primates and big animals. Food was surprisingly good for a zoo. My son had a good time. I'd do it again but I hope they can make repairs and bring stuff back.

This review is for the L.A. Zoo lights during the holiday season. I came on a Sunday night thinking it wouldn't be as crowded, but it was still pretty crowded. They did a great job of only letting people in at their designated times. The lines appeared long, but once your timeslot was open, the line moved quickly. The lights were very nice throughout the zoo. I went to the San Antonio Zoo lights and the experience was very similar. There were various areas with different themes. There were food and drink stations throughout the zoo. Was a nice way to see holiday lights while supporting the zoo.

Was visiting from NY and enjoy going to Zoos, taking pictures and observing the little people. I was actually told by a Holiday Hollywood desk clerk that more than likely many animals won't be available to see. Well long behold he was so wrong. There were enough for me. Actually, was able to get pictures whereby some of the animals were posing. The bird of paradises were fully bloomed, so beautiful. Also, took the trolley bus. Chose to do it alone while other family members went to the Hollywood Strip. Done that and a bit to much for my flavor.

First time back to the zoo in 20 years and was not disappointed. Great variety of animals. Very nice exhibits that replicate the animals natural habitat while providing guest with multiple viewing areas. They are currently requiring guest make appointments to enter the zoo which actually works very well. This helps control the number of guests entering at a time and spreads the crowd out nicely. Great walking zoo. We were there for 4 and a half hours and saw about 95% of the zoo. We were taking our time and could have seen the entire zoo if we spent less time at each exhibit. But it's hard not to spend extra time viewing the beautiful animals they house. Can't wait to go back.

It was very fun of a visit. My girls had a lot of fun. it was not too crowded. It was very clean. A lot of animals are easily visible. All the employees were very friendly, respectful and serviceable. We were greeted with smiles when we came in and when we left. We are definitely wanting to go back. The prices were great and food was very readily accessible everywhere.

This zoo is fun to go to, but I do not suggest waiting later in the day to go since they close at 5 pm. Wish they stayed open until at least 7 pm or so. It's a hot summer, so don't expect a lot of animals to be out much that aren't surrounded by lots of foliage. The souvenir pics are cute, and the employees handling them are very nice. There is an abundance of walking, but that's parts of the fun - at least for me, honestly. They do have a tram that goes around and stops at several spots. You can get off and on at any of the designated spots if you pay for a day pass - $5 for adults, $2.50 for each kid. However, no small hot dog or slice of pizza should cost $12, but it is L.A. so expect increased pricing.

Very cute nighttime outing. The children loved it!. Book tickets in advance because they sale out quickly. Get there early. Hot cocoa is sold for about 4 bucks a cup with free refills around the park. Zoo life is asleep, so you won't see any animals. Be prepared for the crowd!

Due to COVID many of the animals were not available to view. Many of the food kiosks were closed and a few restaurants. It would have been nice for the zoo to disclose this information online before purchasing tickets. This would allowed the consumer to make an informed decision before getting the entire family ready to go.

This was our first time visiting LA Zoo, and we had a wonderful experience in spite of the pandemic— or shall I say thanks to the silver lining of the pandemic? We went at 10am on a weekday and it was not crowded at all. The walkways were wide and there was plenty of space to spread out and socially distance. Small viewing courts were taped off, but we could still see the animals just fine from the outside. Most other visitors wore masks and were respectful of social distancing. There were 6-feet markers all over the ground, but I think what helped the most was that there just weren’t that many people around. We didn’t use the bathrooms so can’t comment on the cleanliness, but there were no lines outside for sure. Food options seemed limited— there was a truck selling pre-packaged ice cream bars, and we smelled something like a grill, but most other food vendors appeared to be closed. Outdoor souvenir stands near the entrance are open, and you can still buy thing from the big store, but you can’t go in. We asked for toddler T-shirts and the staff brought out all 5 options they had and laid them out on the table outside the store for us to see. (They’re $20 each and unfortunately none of them had a good picture of animals, so we didn’t end up buying any.) Overall, it was great to see the animals without the crowd, and we would definitely recommend going! Many thanks to the hardworking LA Zoo staff for reopening and keeping everyone safe!

Was really nice to come back to visit after 12 years. Such a nice zoo. Almost all of the animals were out which was great. Seeing the peacock out and about with it's keeper was a treat. Such a beautiful bird! Got there bit early and got a good parking spot (parking is free until further notice as of posting this.) There were a lot of people there but not once did I feel like it was crowded. Bring your own drinks/snacks though because everything there is VERY overpriced.

I had such an amazing time going to the LA Zoo! Some friends and I went with the goal of getting some photos. I was able to get some shots of the apes and chimps in addition to a couple other animals I thought were really cool. I heard they have a new rhino which will be fun to see. We got tickets ahead of time. We saw a line for people buying tickets at the entrance. It wasn't super long but with tickets ahead of time we went right in.

Very nice place to go with kids. I would recommend to get tickets online. Take quarters and pennies for the zoo coin machine. Strollers are available too Double $14 Single $10 also wheelchair available. It's easy to get lost I ended up walking the zoo 2 times.

Always a good time at the zoo. Really clean place with lots of displays. Wide variety of animals and activities for the family. The staff is always nice and friendly. We make it a point to come to the zoo when we go to LA. The wombat display is a very cool display. We hung out and watched him for a few.

The zoo is absolutely wonderful! Unfortunately, the guest services, specifically under management of Robert, are absolutely horrible. He makes women and children wait in line in the heat, while more comfortable front area is empty. No effort was made to let people wait in the shaded area upfront (keeping 6 feet apart of-course). Robert is absolutely unfit for the job as he’s lacking customer service skills and doesn’t understand the basic needs of his main customers...

This was our first time back in years, and we are so happy to be back! We love that LA Zoo is a conservation organization that is constantly making innovations to help improve the lives of animals. We love the variety of animals we get to observe and learn about, the overall upkeep of the park, and the ease and comfort of exploring the zoo. There is really no easier trip than visiting this zoo. The only thing that makes me sad is the look in the eyes of the orangutans... They looked dismal each time we passed by. As we don't know the circumstances as to why they're in captivity, we can only believe it is for the best. Poor, intelligent animals look so sad though. We upgraded our day passes into annual passes and look forward to enjoying more time here. The crowd was very manageable, the food options were good, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time.

We had a very good time today at the zoo. Though there were not that many animals, we really enjoyed the atmosphere there. I can just come here every weekend just to walk around, see some animals and enjoy the greens. The highlight of our visit today was getting to feed a giraffe ($5 / person - three romaine lettuce leaves). Besides these beautiful animals, they have a carousel inside the park, face-painting and a very nice playground/picnic area. Also, there are food/snack stalls everywhere throughout the park if you want a quick bite but it is pretty expensive. Packing food and drink from home is recommended.

A beautiful Sunday with such nice weather. It's been awhile since I have gone to the zoo. I decided to make a trip out to LA to visit the zoo after a nice breakfast. Easily accessible by the freeway. Parking is free so that's a plus. The park is well maintained. I love seeing all the animals. I like the layout of the place. Very enjoyable. I would visit again.

Not crowded at all. All employees and guests were all wearing face masked for Covid19 protection and people kept their distances so I felt safe there for my family and myself. Enough food places were open so plenty to eat and drink. Food places were clean and practiced good safe distancing also all employee I saw wearing protective face masks and gloves so felt very comfortable. The zoo was fantastic plenty to see. All exhibits were not open due to keeping the public and animals safe from covid19 however can spend 2 days there and not see everything. I would take the shuttle in the Zoo as soon as you get there as we did because this helped us see more of the Zoo and gave use a visual lay out so we can find our way quicker when we were on foot. The shuttle has open air cars and spacing is every other bench seat, and only same family is to sit in the same bench seat row. Also I noticed that the shuttle is sanitized after everyone gets off before new riders get on so we felt safe riding the shuttle. Its also a whole day pass and cheap. In all we had a great time lots of awesome animals to see. We are going again soon to see what we missed! Sorry not many pictures on my phone, my wife took them all on her camera.

The Los Angeles Zoo is still the great place I remember visiting as a kid. Ti experience it now with my wife and boys makes it even more special. There are some restrictions and limitations due to the Covid world we currently live in. We had plenty to see and enjoy and had a great day visiting the beautiful wildlife.

I haven't been here since I was a child and wow what a beautiful zoo. They did a really great job abiding by the state regulations as well. As well everyone attending doing the same and maintaining social distance. On a selfish note I loved that there were a limited amount of people allowed in the zoo. I was able to comfortably see the animals and stroll around the park with out having to look over peoples shoulders to see the animals and what not.

It was amazing experience. When we visited this place temp was 100 , I would recommend to go during winter because really less places where you can get shelter from sunlight. I am vegetarian and in zoo they do have vegan + vegetarian option. FYI, even though mask is mandatory though many people were not weared the mask inside in facility. No one from park facility was sayinv anyone to wear it inside.

Went to the L.A. Zoo Lights during night time. All the lights were beautiful and amazing. Staff at the entrance were very nice and friendly. I wanted to buy tickets online but when I was on my way there it didn't let me buy the tickets, but luckily the box office was open until they closed the zoo lights, which is around 9 PM. They open from 6 to 9PM. At the time I'm writing this, prices can range anywhere from $15-$27 dollars from what I've seen. Children ages 2-12 will have a discounted price. Children under the age of 2 are allowed to enter for free. If you decide to buy tickets at the box office they will send you a text message with a link of your ticket(s) after the purchase has went through. Just go back to the front and let the staff scan your QR codes. They'll give you guides so you can correctly loop around but we just explored on our own. The amount of time to see everything took about an hour and a half, almost 2 hours. Definitely recommend coming/booking tickets near or at the time when the lights open, which is 6PM. When you're near the animals, they'll have people standing around with signs saying to be quiet to let the animals enjoy their sleep. Best part of the lights is the light tunnel they have near the end. After that you just loop back to the beginning and exit the zoo. Overall, a pretty good experience! I just think they should lower the price a bit more because the standard average price of tickets are $24 but I think that's a bit overpriced just to see some lights. (again at the time I'm writing this) Anyways, definitely recommend checking this out if you want to see some lights during December and the beginning of January!

Very disappointed on our trip to the LA Zoo, I took my family all excited and finished the whole Zoo in less than 3 hrs. Almost all animals we were excited to see were not there (tiger, lion, zebra, bears, turtles, cheetahs, etc.) and the petting zoo was closed. And to top it off the first Ice Scream stand had a long line and was not really moving so we went to the next one, to our luck they had no Ice scream, it was a hot day! It would really appreciate it if you announce on your website that most or like 75% of the animals are not at the LA Zoo, so we can at least now ahead of time.

Nice outing at an OK price. Merchandise is way overpriced. Be prepared for about a 5 mile trek. I recommend purchasing the tram ticket. Lots of exhibits are closed or too far out to see the animals. Take it for what it is worth and keep in mind there are nice areas to sit with lush landscaping and flowers. Six foot social distancing for us but 12 feet for the animals?

Parking is free, and it's easiest to buy tickets online instead of waiting in line. The zoo can be done in a sort of loop with some exhibits you need to go off the main loop for. Many exhibits had additional fencing for COVID safety for the animals. The elephants in the middle are somewhat hard to see, depending on the angle you view them. There's a tram but requires payment. Overall a good zoo to introduce you to animals you wouldn't normally see in Los Angeles.

(Visit date: June 2023: sunday) Great place for little ones! My 3 year old always enjoys their visit to the zoo. I suggest getting a toddler camera so they can take their own pictures. Parking isn't bad if you arrive before 1 pm. Ice cream stand is great, and the flamingo cone is a must! Animals are usually out and active, but tigers and elephants are a bit harder to spot.

My and my family went for Easter on 4/16/2022 it was packed but we had fun. Some areas where closed due to them having a higher rate of catching covid if exposed to it. But other then that it was fun we got the season pass so we will definitely be coming back! :)

Had a good time at this zoo! It’s not the biggest I’ve been to but it was a fun experience. The ticket prices are affordable and you can have a lovely day there. I particularly liked the reptile room!! It’s a cool way to spend your day, not sure if I’d visit again anytime soon due to the lack of animal exhibits tho.

Very good experience. It was a great time looking at all the animals. Make sure to pack water and snacks. It's a big park. You can enjoy the play zone for the kids. It under cover so the little ones don't get burn or overheat. The little train can take you all around the park. If you buy a all day pass you can hop on and off as you wish to see the all animals from around the world. Tha k you L.A zoo for making the fun game to find the wonderful travel icon from around the world. We played it and it was so much fun. We just wanted to find the next clue.

I love this zoo. The giraffe and elephant pens are probably the best. The lions definitely need more space. Also, be sure to plan ahead if coming during covid19 restrictions. The zoo's process for getting a reservation for members and the process for normal admission are both confusing and aggravating. You may come and end up not being able to come in.

This is one of the favorite places to visit for our family. The zoo features a petting area where kids can groom the friendly goats there. So much fun. Our kid enjoyed the Merry Go Round. It features a great variety of animals to ride on. The staff is friendly. The ticket is $3. Its not cheap but hey it benefits the zoo animals. Another favorite was the Cambodian Pavilion. Its a great place to rest and watch Asian elephants. We are members of the zoo thanks to our generous uncle. Update on 6/21/20: The Zoo is still closed due to Covid19. We miss it very much. Update on 11/13/20: The Zoo reopened a while ago. It graciously extended our 1 year membership beyond the 1 year mark due to Covid19. Entrance tickets are free for members. Advance reservation is required online due to Covid19. Member tickets tend to sell out quickly though. I recommend booking 1-2 months in advance. It is also worthwhile to call the membership hotline and ask for tickets for the same week. The Reps tend to be helpful.

Name itself enough that Los Angeles Zoo is situated in Los Angeles, California. Area of the land is 133 acres and opened for public in 1966. This place is Clean and Safe to go and spend with kids, friends and families. Nice environment, Reasonable ticket prices for all ages. There are a variety of animals, birds and mammals. Don't forget to feed to Giraffe and visit gift shop at least. All the staffs working hard to keep animal safe as well as the entire zoo. Thanks to all.

We love Zoos and Bristol Zoo is an old favourite. The best part was by far the reptiles. It’s a small Zoo compared to Chester and others we have visited. It still has it’s charms. The grounds are kept tidy, and there is a lot of information and helpful staff. My children love big cats and were so pleased to see a Lion up close, but also sad as the enclosure didn’t look that big. I am sure it was more significant behind the promenade. The variety of animals that they care for is pretty good, and there is plenty to see. Still worth a visit if you are tagging it onto something else in Bristol. There was a food area, the food was very good, and the kids were happy, that is a miracle. The meerkats were extraordinarily entertaining, and it was pleasant to learn all about them there. A lovely day out.

L.A. Zoo Lights review. This was an amazing experience for both children and adults. They get extra points for adding a cocktail bar along the route. Though the map said there were three locations, there was only one. Only noticed the snake exhibit was open. They still have a few kinks to work out on entering the park, but due to COVID, it's all understandable. Bring cash if you want snacks. Some booths charge a $2 transaction fee if using a credit card.

To celebrate the 4th birthday of my daughter, we took her to the LA Zoo to be one with nature. She had a blast. Considering school and Covid protocols, it was amazing for the place not to be crowded when we got there. Then again, we did go on a Wednesday. There were tons of animals to see and all were lively. A couple took naps, but when they heard my AMAZING Disney puns and jokes, they woke up. All around a successful day for the little one and for the animals meeting the mighty mighty Audrey. Definitely planning on coming back. Got to love those ticket prices..... I'm looking at your Disneyland lol.

of getting presents for Mother’s Day, I wanted to go to the LA Zoo. It’s something different. I just wanted to create more memories. I don’t remember the last time I was here. I think the last time I was here was when my mom used to work here. It was nice to be back here after a long time. I always enjoy going to the zoo. My husband purchased tickets online. Children under 3 are free which is really good. Was able to bring in our wagon with no hassle. The zoo was very clean. Animals are easy to see. The animals are so beautiful. The cages and the areas are so well kept. I also enjoy reading all of the signs and having a better understanding where the animals live and what they like to eat. The staff employees are very friendly. They are respectful and provide great service. Once we entered the zoo, we were greeted with lots of smiles and handed us maps. Even answered a lot of our questions before entering. They have a playground area. This is a great place for picnics. You can bring drinks, food, and snacks. But just make sure you don’t try to find the animals. That can be very dangerous. Ice cream stands are always a must. They have a lot of choices and great ways to stay cool. The restrooms are very well maintained. Clean and well stocked. A lot of sanitizations. Parking was great. We parked really close. We got there at 10am. Not bad. We did so much in a day. We will definitely come back here again. Thank you for the great memories.

I always love to visit the LA Zoo. I recently visited and most exhibits were closed. I'm not sure if it was because it was the middle of the week or if that's just the way it is these days, especially after the pandemic. Anyway, I had a great time and I even renewed my membership for another year. I love the animals.

LA Zoo lights is a fun date night. Not only for kids! The lights were fun to look at. Rode the carousel. It was only $3/ticket. They also had a alcohol booth, which was not very occupied at all. 😅 Def would recommend for families and date night.

I've only been 1 time but enjoyed all that was offered with fair pricing, variety of animals, food options & shopping. Zoo's are a great place for all ages to learn about animals, their habitat and the chance to see them up close. The grounds were well maintained, but more open seating along pathways would be good for older adults and those who need to sit as needed. For all you offer I recommend the L.A. Zoo and give you 5 stars.

The LA Zoo has just reopened and it's actually a great experience with only a few closed exhibits. The smaller crowds make for easier viewing of animals and overall a calmer experience. There are some go-to features that are closed, not as many food stops and some round about viewing areas that you'll need to see from a far. There's plenty of hand sanitizer stations, and for the most part everyone is respectful about keeping their distance. At least locals are.

It was a pretty hot day in LA today (90 something degrees F) and most of the animals was facing away or trying to find a spot to hide from the hot sun (which is totally understandable, yet, frustrating). My pick point was the staff. Ther were so nice, friendly and every time you approached them with a question, they always have a smile upon their faces. They were amazing. Is a very nice place to come visit. Is beautiful, charming....I will definitely come back often. P.S: they didn't have the Lion at the moment. Apparently, he was too old and passed away, and they didn't find a replacement to him. #Rip

A lovely little zoo. Good prices for entry and the little restaurant, which is take away only at the moment, is fairly well priced to. The animals are all in lovely condition as are all the enclosures. The staff are friendly and helpful. There are toilets dotted all around the area which is very handy. We had a wonderful time and is was a real pleasure to see the 2 week old baby gorilla up close. A lovely place to visit.

We went here for a little day out driving from South Wales. Easy to get to and the parking was made easy (it's £4 but you can use card) thanks to the wardens. It was a quiet day when we went so walking around was a breeze. All the animals seem well looked after and most enclosures had some keepers nearby explaining and talking about the creatures inside. The park itself is very nice and well kept, and the gardens and plants are really great. There's plenty of areas to walk about and play with children too. There is also a little restaurant that serves nice food. The pasta I had was good. Two of the standout enclosures were the penguins/seals and the butterflies. The seals were shooting about under and above the water, and you were able to go underground to see them like I've never seen them before. The butterfly enclosure was very pretty and they were flying around everywhere, allowing you to get extremely close to them. Overall a good day out and well worth it, especially if you book online cheap!

I'm giving a 3 due to the fact that so many of the exhibits are closed due to Covid but also because as the only Los Angeles city-wide zoo...it should be much bigger and better. I enjoy myself when I go mainly because I get a nice walk in and also because it's clean. The workers are generally very nice and knowledgeable. The food cost a little too much for what you get and water should NEVER be so expensive that you gotta reconsider buying a bottle. Please fix that. Otherwise, a nice place to take the fam.

Lovely lake front zoo. Wow what a treat, in Chicago and on the lake front! Free admission, you have to pay for parking so that's to be expected (street parking if you can find it). Bring your walking shoes! We saw most of the animals and the fall setting was beautiful. Reserve ahead because the spots fill up quickly. Ample parking as well. Overall a great outing and great family fun for all.

The zoo was founded in 1868, when the Lincoln Park Commissioners were given a gift of two pairs[6] of swans by Central Park's Board of Commissioners in New York City.[7] Other animals were soon donated to the park, including, a puma, two elk, three wolves, four eagles, and eight peacock.[8] In 1874, a bear cub from the Philadelphia Zoo was the first animal purchased by the zoo. The bear became quite adept at escaping from its home and could frequently be found roaming Lincoln Park at night.[9] In 1884, reportedly the first American bison born in captivity was born at the Lincoln Park Zoo.[10] At this time, the species had almost been hunted to extinction in the wild—in 1896, the United States government purchased one bull and seven cows from the Zoo's bison herd to send to Yellowstone National Park to assist in the species' revival.[8] From 1888 to 1919 the director of the Lincoln Park Zoo was the flamboyant Cy DeVry, who organized the collection, built many new structures, and obtained the zoo's first elephant and monkeys. A new Lion House opened in 1912. It was later renovated and reopened in 1990. The Primate House opened in 1927, and was known for housing a popular gorilla named Bushman (1931–1951), one of the only gorillas in a U. S. zoo at the time.[11][12] The zoo's great apes were moved to the Lester E. Fisher Great Ape House in 1976, named for the zoo's outgoing director, and the original Primate House was later renovated and reopened in 1992 as the Helen Brach Primate House, featuring more naturalistic settings. Marlin Perkins, who gained fame as the host of the television program Zoo Parade and later, Wild Kingdom, was director of the zoo from 1944 until 1962. He created and recruited a citizens group to support the Zoo's mission, the Lincoln Park Zoological Society. The facility underwent a dramatic transformation in the 1970s and 1980s, with the additions of many new, naturalistic exhibits. In 1995, the Zoological Society assumed management of the zoo from the Chicago Park District, which remains the owner.[11] Zoo administration is currently housed in the nearby building previously used by the Chicago Academy of Sciences, which moved to a new facility in 1999. The Kovler Sea Lion Pool opened the same year after an extensive renovation, and is now home to the zoo's harbor seals.[13] Regenstein African Journey, a renovation of the zoo's former Large Mammal House, opened in 2003, turning the zoo's largest building from concrete showcases for a few large mammals into a series of naturalistic settings that tell the story of the wildlife of the African continent, welcoming the return of the zoo's African elephants and giraffes as well as new additions such as the aardvark, ostrich, and African wild dog.[14] Two years later, the zoo renovated its Great Ape House, opening the Regenstein Center for African Apes, which focused on the zoo's troops of common chimpanzees and western lowland gorillas, putting a special emphasis on researching the behaviors of both species and creating new, naturalistic habitats.[15] In 2003, the book The Ark in the Park: The Story of Lincoln Park Zoo was also published by the University of Illinois Press. The book was written by Mark Rosenthal, Carol Tauber, and Edward Uhlir.[16][17] In 2010, Lincoln Park Zoo transformed the adjacent South Pond to create the Nature Boardwalk, an ecological habitat designed by Studio Gang Architects that features native wetlands plants and wildlife.[18] In December 2011, the Kovler Penguin-Seabird House, which had previously been home to rockhopper, king penguins, common murres and puffins closed down after thirty years at the zoo due to worries about the deteriorating condition of the building, prompting outcry from some Chicago residents.[19] It was soon announced it would be replaced with a newly renovated West Gate, featuring a children's train and an all-new exhibit, Regenstein Macaque Forest, featuring Japanese macaques, or "snow monkeys", in a state-of-the-art exhibit with a hot spring, set to open in fall 2014.[20] It was announced in March

We loved visiting again after the extended closure. We made our reservations on the date they opened up. Reservations do book up very quickly when they are released. We had absolutely no issues during our visit. We are members, and the membership entrance had no wait at all. The general entrance did have a line and it looked like a wait time to enter. There was only the one shop open for souvenirs near the main walkway, but it also was a very rainy and windy afternoon. The staff we encountered were all very helpful.

We went at 1 so no wait in line, we didn't purchase online because we used veterans discount and you can only do that at the zoo. The zoo was fun walking around but not much to the exhibits. As big as LA is they could do better. Hand out maps we can read (covid has nothing to do with that). Leave your animals out till you close at 5. Make larger interesting exhibits for some of the bigger animals. Take a look at the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo, not to compare but you could do better at taking care of your animals. Your night lights for Christmas was beautiful. I would only go again because of my grandchildren. But LA keep in mind some of these animals need to run.

Absolutely recommend that you go to the LA Zoo Lights if you're around. It is a cheap, relaxing and beautiful event filled with colors and sparkles, from entry to end. It is for everyone, and offers plenty of selfies opportunities, as well as great pictures in general. Just be sure to arrive a little early: it is often filled to the brim with people!

I spent a day with my 1.2 years old baby here. He was excited to see the animals. We didn’t book the tickets in advance. The staffs were friendly. We got our caricatures done near the entrance as well. Picked up a few soft toys. The zoo is small compared to other zoos in the bay area. But it was a day well spent. No regrets..

GO & ENJOY! Well worth the money. A bunch of amazing animals and small enough to get it all done without being extremely tired at the end of the day. Go early, the animals come out at opening and want to go back in around 3pm. The shows were good. The weather was perfect. The animals are visible. + You can bring your cooler with lunch & snacks for the day. There's a bunch of restaurants also pricy but available. I went on Earth Day. What an experience! Nature girl by heart, so this was a great choice. * Oh, and buy your ticket online. No wait. Just walk right in, scan your ticket, and start your day! *Strollers and motor wheelchairs for rent for a very good price for the day. Enjoy a few pictures from my day!

We have been to plenty of zoos in different states and we were disappointed with our visit. We didnt see but like 3 maybe 4 animals during our visit. All the animals were put up. It was a warm day so will give them that but there was no warning or heads up before purchasing full price tickets. So we pretty much just walked around up and down hills to look at trees/bushes. I'm sure it has potential to be a fun zoo but it just wasn't worth it the day we visited unfortunately.

Much larger than I expected! We went in the morning about 10AM, animals were active and very nice to see! It's cool that one of the eateries is next to the Giraffes so you get to watch them interact while you rest for a bit. A third of the price from San Diego Zoo as well, and I think a much better experience!

It was really hot, so some of the animals were not seen in their exhibits...but the ones we did see were good. We were there in the early afternoon, so most of them were napping. The elephants, gibbons, giraffe, painted dog, flamingos, meerkats and kangaroos were the most active. It was decorated for Halloween and had several blow-up displays of animals. One display of Christmas trees and reindeer were towards the Africa area. Didn't get to see that and a few other spots because we had a full day of other events. All in all, it was a nice zoo, very clean and nice displays. Only reason for 4 stars was that we didn't get to see a lot of animals because they were either hiding from the sun or not in their enclosures. Zoo hours are 10am to 5pm, but check before you go because some days may be different.

A very nice zoo. We arrived on Saturday just in time for opening to avoid long lines & waiting, And we definitely bought tickets pretty quickly and got in without standing in line. A ticket for an adult costs $22 and for a baby under the age of 2 the entrance is free. wide variety of animal types. In my opinion, the zoo is not arranged in a sufficiently organized manner and it is difficult to find your way around and reach all the animals, it felt a bit like a maze and there were no maps anywhere. We arrived on a very hot day and many of the animals were not in places where they could be seen inside the cage. The food/drinks/souvenirs are very very expensive!! Besides, our baby really enjoyed it and it was nice to watch the animals, the zoo is clean and inviting, nicely decorated and you can see that thought was put into it.

I highly recommend buying tickets online to avoid the line. Went on a weekday and it was still packed. Got to see tons of animals but must admit some featured areas were closed due to construction/renovations. Was very sad there weren't any elephants because that just seems like a staple for any zoo. Overall had such a great time I forgot to take more pictures.

Wasted 100$USD for family of 5. Rained and all the animals have options to stay inside where visitors cannot see them. No refunds on tickets. It was a waste of time and money. People say its beautiful inside and its not. Its like any other zoo except this one has no animals in it. We saw a snow leopard, flamingos, and seals. Don't bother to go if its raining. Really disappointed.

Tickets are bought with a designated time. Dont let the line fool you though.nit goes by very quick. It's well worth going because it is not crowded and all animals are able to be seen. However, some attractions are closed. A few quick stop food places are open. Vending machines are not selling items. Gift shops are open but you are unable to enter and must shop from outside the store. I enjoyed my time there a lot 😁

The lions and the tasmanian devils along with a lot of other animals were moved and the exhibitions were closed. All the photo booths are closed. The monkey hut was closed. We came at 3 pm and many animals were hidden inside their enclosures. Over all I feel like we were given 50% of the zoo experience but the prices were the same. We went just to finally get out of the house and see some scenery in a safe way, and this did not disappoint. It's a pretty normal, average zoo with some newer and some older enclosures, but you can still tell the animals are well taken care of. The area is super hilly, so if you have a bad time walking (I walk with a cane), I suggest a motorized wheelchair or the tram if it's going (use the playground stop or the tram stop after that one to be generally going downhill then use the Australia stop to get back to the exit). They have timed ticketing, all the circle exhibits blocked off so you can't go in (because they are too close but you can still peek in), some one-way-only, some food stalls and indoor reptile house closed, and a mask mandate for Covid-19 restrictions, but in all, you still get to see the majority of animals and definitely the favorites.

It is a Fantastic place to take the wife and kids. We love it for two reasons. The kids are totally entertained and we all get a lot of exercise. It is a big place, so be sure to wear your running/walking shoes. They have so many animals, a good variety. And, you are really close up to most of the animals. Much better than expected. I was a bit wary because some reviews here had complained about a lot being closed because of the Coronavirus, and that there were no big animals. But the only thing we found closed was the Butterfly House, and even though the only big animals were a couple of lions and a family of Gorillas, there were so many of those animals that make you go "ooh it's a ..." that it was a real highlight of the trip. Red pandas, piranhas, puffer fish, archer fish, ring-tailed lemurs, gibbons, armadillos, assassin bugs, leaf ants, tarantulas. There was of course nesting penguins and sealions at feeding time, along with a family of meerkats.

I had an enjoyable visit here. I felt the zoo was quite small however. Plenty to see, and worth the money. I particularly enjoyed the penguin area. The cafe was overpriced but that's what you expect anyway. Can't comment on parking as i got a bus from temple meads which seems to run a very infrequent service. I'd say you can view everything in an hour. Wouldnt go here again though just because there wasn't that much really. The sloths at the end were awesome and easily visible unlike some other zoos.

The park has been closed for more than two months but it finally reopened on Tuesday, Feb 16th. It is a great zoo! There are so many exhibits and so many species! My favorite place to visit is the tropical bird and reptile exhibit and the big cat yard! The peacocks that roam around freely is a real treat. The staff is really professional and they take great care of the animals. They even take great care of visitors! They really made the experience special for me. I was definitely there to see the animals but I got the sense that some people were there just to get out of the house! And with capacity capped at 2,400 people per day, with a maximum of 400 allowed in per hour, there is lots of room for people to stagger themselves one 'zebra' apart...haha

A fine Fall day and had a great time walking and watching various animals. The Zebra mom and baby were the star of the show. There was a seal show , where the seals were performing little antics. Not sure if they had to suffer while learning these tricks. The Giraffes looked happy in their lot but can not say the same about the caged birds. The Polar bear appeared sick, looked like he had no love for life left.

  • 4/5 David P. 3 years ago on Google
The Lincoln park zoo is pretty unique. Its free. Something that is not very common for most Zoos. Because of this, its absolutely worth a visit. However be warned that you could easily walk and see all the animals you might want to within 1.5hs, and maybe less depending on what's out. It is not very large, and is pretty compact. The draw is the price. There is however another zoo around Chicago that is much better. Be sure to check out Brookfield zoo if you really want a full blown zoo experience.

  • 3/5 Jessi L. 3 years ago on Google
Well we are understanding that with Covid the indoor exhibits will be closed. What we didn't realize was there weren't going to be any animals at all. I have posted 16 pictures with is 1 of every single animal they had available to see. Including the ducks and seagulls. The big cats were not there because they are still under construction. ALL of the bears were gone. It wasn't what we expected. Even for a free zoo. We paid quite a bit for parking They could have said online that 3/4 of the animals were being kept inside with no way to see them. Had we known we would have went to Brookfield. We like Lincoln Park because it's the last free one and I love being able to donate which I do when I buy the tickets. I just wish they would have warned us. My daughters were ready to leave after 15 minutes of empty animal houses. Thankfully we chose a day that wasn't humid or we would have left without out seeing everything. Luckily they had the flamingos which was what my girls wanted most after the rest was empty. That's why we saved it for last or they would have wanted to leave after seeing them.

No chance to get to Christmas Lights neither at Lincoln Zoo nor at Botanic Garden in time of COVID 19. But just to be there, take a walk around, chat with a strangers, patting the dogs & exchange couple wards with their owners, all of this gave a windows to the normal life, to the community, to feel yourself as a part of this wonderful town & it's community.

  • 4/5 Caitlin S. 3 years ago on Google
First time visiting and was kind of disappointed. All the buildings were closed (reptile, primate, etc.) and there was a lot of construction. Because of this you weren’t able to see very many animals. I thought the arrows painted along the ground and various fences showing the correct walking paths were wonderful to keep people distanced but also made for extra walking and it was harder to get to/find exhibits. I appreciate their efforts during COVID. Good for a visit if your have an extra hour and are searching for something FREE to do.

  • 5/5 Doge C. 3 years ago on Google
As always, Zoo Lights this year were amazing, even if a ticket was mandatory for entry. Every ticket had a half hour entry period for about 250 people in total to ensure not too many people were in the park at one time.

This is a place that I wish we had more time to explore! It's a aquarium, planetarium, and science museum all in one place. I heard the Steinhart Aquarium is better than the Aquarium of the Bay, so we decided to go here our last day in San Francisco. Pro tip: You can get a discount if you took public transit. Also you will want to get tickets (they're free) for any Planetarium shows you want to see when you first arrive, as they can run out. I think you could easily explore this place from the time they open until close! They have Night hours on Thursday nights, but you'll want to buy those tickets in advance. One of my favorite things was the Rainforest Exhibit with butterflies flying all around you.

Went to the zoo to see the Christmas lights and they were beautiful! Didn’t see any animals though! There was a beautiful area to sit on the top floor at one of the building full of lights above the seating area, but they did have a $3 entrance charge which was kind of inconvenient! The parking for 31 minutes to 2 hours was $20. Overall it was an ok experience, too many fees here and there, and not much to do besides walking around to see the lights.

Zoo Lights on NYE!! I guess you can't expect much when you pay $20 for a family of four but I'd rather pay more and get more then to visit this again. It could've been more lights and maybe a light show to the beat of music. The kids were bored and ready to leave before it was over. For NYE to make it an actual event maybe they can add fireworks or fill in the much empty space with more lights.

Always a great day at zoo! Even better now with reservation only. Perfect amount of people, plenty of room. Feel safe. Some things closed, i.e. shows of course. But during these times, expected. Grandbaby had a ball. As we were leaving she said, "Best day ever!". Whatelse needs to be said. :)

It’s always tons of fun visiting the LA Zoo! They have a great expansive layout for seeing all their animals and plenty of parking for even those busier days. They also have good conservation programs for some of the more endangered animals, and don’t forget LA Zoo Lights during the holidays! Overall a good place to visit for a day or as often as you can to see all they have to offer.

L.A. Zoo is a lovely visit. In the middle of Griffith Park, it very much has a park feel inside. Wandering around, you feel so far away from the city, even though it's right outside of the park. Great if you have kids, just be aware that it is hilly. People with walking issues might want to rent a scooter or take advantage of the zoo tram ($5 adults, $2.50 kids, $2.00 seniors and those with a disability, kids under 2 are free). During the pandemic, you have to make a reservation ahead online so to limit the attendance. Some attractions are closed, but most are open and just socially distance compliant. If you need a day away from the hustle and bustle of L.A., the Zoo is a nice, close and inexpensive escape.

The only reason why this Zoo isn’t getting 5 stars is because there was no coffee or monsters sold there and i had to explore the whole Zoo with out any caffeine. Besides that the Zoo was great, clean, had many monkeys 🐒.

We lived this zoo. Must say if you have small children, bring a stroller. If not 1 is rentable at the zoo. Price is not a burden on the pocket book, could be better signs to where and how to get to all animals. Overall loved the animals that WERE present as some were not in their enclosures. I recommend eating before entering as prices for even water are astronimcal.

  • 4/5 Ryan J. 2 years ago on Google
I like zoos and this is one of the better ones. I was fortunate to be there when the weather was perfect. Had a fun time. Food in the zoo is off the scale expensive so pack your own lunch. This is why 4 instead of 5 stars. All parks mark up their food and products but the price to value is incredibly bad here.

  • 3/5 Albert A. 2 years ago on Google
Been going there for a couple years to see the Christmas lights aka zoo lights; but went today during normal business hours and was kind of disappointed. There was hardly any animals in the exhibits and a lot of it was closed down. It's was really hot tried to get something to drink. It cost me $27 for two cans of Pepsi a water bottle and one canned beer. I do have to say the zoo is pretty expansive.Definitly bigger than what I remembered it as a kid ,but not sure if I can recommend it.

  • 5/5 Yesi A. 2 years ago on Google
Its worth it to go! We saw everything. They just didn't have koalas to exhibit . No mask outside, masks inside reptiles exhibit and other closed areas. Take cumfy shoes, you can basically take all the snacks you want . I think i only saw 2 food concession stands open. They dont check your backpacks. We were inside by noon and all the animals were awake and there to see. Enjoy!

It had been a pleasant day at the Zoo. We wandered about for over four hours. During that day, there were several areas where no animals could be seen. Inside, there was a decent restaurant. I think it would be a good idea to provide more options for great food. It's still a good place to take your child to see the animals

It was nice but overcrowded wasn’t too happy about that, people didn’t wear mask and with the spike of cases I would hope people would respect others wishes to wear it. I thought with the scheduled times it would have been easier to navigate through but it wasn’t, also the fact they were selling mixed drinks and beers at a family night function was a little odd as well. At least my kids enjoyed the the lights.

The LA Zoo is solidly worth a visit. It's not the biggest, and it's not the most modern, but the animals seem happy and there's a lot of them. The zoo is built into the side of a mountain, so you should be prepared for an uphill hike. For the best experience choose a weekday (when school is in session) and cooler weather. The zoo is magical when nearly empty. (When full, it's harder to enjoy or even see the animals because of the crowds.) Another plus to going on an empty day is you can talk to the zookeepers and docents. They're all well trained and full of interesting facts. On my most recent visit I learned about the lifespan of echindas (they don't know exactly how long they live, but it's quite a while), among other things. The zoo is also active in conservation and breeding efforts. Definitely a worthy cause. Buy a membership if you think you'll visit twice in a year.

The zoo is very big. It can take a day to see every animal. The Australia House is closed due to COVID-19. And visitors need to keep a longer distance to see many animals in the zoo. All these measures are fine to me. But I can't stand throwing the whole boxes with food inside to animals. The bear and chimpanzees area are too dirty. There are milk boxes, juice boxes, shoes boxes and Amazon boxes in their cage. That is definitely a prison for those many chimpanzees.

I came during the holidays in the evening to visit the zoo during the Los Angeles Zoo Lights event. It was definitely worth it! It takes about an hour in the evening to get through the displays. The lights are really well done and carefully put together. There is even an amazing light tunnel that you can walk through. You can go in to see the reptiles but in the dark it is very hard to see most of them (the lights are kept off in the cages). Unfortunately I didn't see any other animals (other than the light animals!)

This Zoo is such a local treat! A few things people may want to know in advance, tho: - no printed maps. Be prepared to use their qr coded DL map onto your phone or take a picture of it wherever you stumble across one in the park. Better yet, plan your route ahead of time. - there's a lot more available parking on left side (facing the zoo, w autry museum behind) so just search there first. - no bird or otherwise shows due to the pandemic. Maybe the website mentions it but I don't recall the few times I skimmed through it prior to visiting. - most people aren't wearing masks which is fine, BUT there are a few enclosed spaces to be weary of not wearing a mask. As in, people Will be nearly shoulder to shoulder to one another, breathing each other's breath. Be prepared at your own risk how to act accordingly. - * wish the zoo would list on their site which exhibits aren't showing for the day* I can understand that's probably too much to maintain tho. During our visit a week ago the lions and hippos were the biggest miss, among several other animals. - the informational staff, by individual exhibits, are fantastic!! - extra treat: Babies 💕 baby kangaroo in momma Kangaroo's pouch, >6' baby giraffe 🦒 and baby primates and young elephant 🐘 - I'm particularly appreciative of the playground area and how well maintained the restroom near there was kept. Thanks for a great time!!

We had a blast at the zoo! A few exhibits were closed but that didn't hinder our experience. Also, every staff member we encountered was extremely nice and helpful

  • 4/5 Darrell W. 1 year ago on Google
It's a nice zoo that feels like it's targeted for locals and not tourists. The warm weather means lots of open air enclosures. They need more concession options, bringing lunch is a good idea to avoid lines and save time. It's affordable and has free parking which is very nice considering the many other attractions that change outrageous prices for parking.

Honestly I haven’t been to L.A Zoo ever since I was a kid. Going back after so many years with my son has been the greatest experience. I felt like a kid again. From being there in the afternoon to see the animals and experiencing the Lights was so amazing. I loved how they have different little themes and music while you walk along the zoo. The restrooms were well kept and very cleaning too. I didn’t try the food and snacks but I definitely will when I go back next weekend. 10/10 I would highly recommend this place to spend time with family & friends.

  • 4/5 Kyle M. 1 year ago on Google
This was a great experience! We went in the mid afternoon, but it was tough since it was a little colder. We hope next time we go in the summer we can see all the animals. We were led astray with staying in the zoo but were asked to leave an hour earlier than we the closing time was. But the staff were nice and the zoo was decorated with Christmas lights as well. I hope to go back soon!

  • 4/5 Gladius T. 10 months ago on Google
Perfect experience. Good parking and nice fruit/food stands in front of the entrance. The snow leopard enclosure is way too small though, that made us very sad and therefore only 4 stars. The other habitats and animals were very cool to see and admire though!

  • 5/5 Bree L. 10 months ago on Google
The exhibits are nice sized and the animals all seem taken care of. Parking can fill up quickly, so get there early. The zoo is quite large and it's easy to get lost so I highly recommend using a map. The gorillas were the star of the zoo and most of the primates were active! The rest were just basking in the sun enjoying the nice LA weather. :)

  • 5/5 J M. 9 months ago on Google
Lions and tigers and ocelots! Oh my! Yeah, I didn't see bears. I saw gorillas and pandas and birds and reptiles! OMG! It was so much fun! So we went here for my kid's birthday with her friends. The best deal is the $199 deluxe membership (see pic), which you can buy online. If you are military, you get an extra $10 off any membership. You can also get $3 off any individual ticket at the gate. This is an excellent place to get your steps in and cheaper than a $25 a month gym membership! Entertainment and exercise! Parking is FREE! There can be long lines when it first opens. There is a separate line for members. I got the $300 membership hood for 3 adults and can bring a guest. I this membership and the deluxe you can include your children or grandchildren (2-17 years of age... I do not have any in this range) up to 8 (YES, 8 children!). $7.99 for a refillable cup that you can always bring back (refills are $1.99)

It was quite warm, so a lot of animals sought the shade of their dens. I was still able to see many animals including elephants, gorillas, Australian wildlife, reptiles and more! There are quite a few empty enclosures, but I don't think they would be good for animals to reside in anyway. Besides the Addax and Anteater, most of the animals seemed content to be there. Definitely an older looking zoo and with enough funding I bet they could improve the enclosures! Free parking and it took me 3.5 hours to explore. I ate at the Zoo Grill. The burger and fries were tasty and with a drink it came to $21. Gift shops were really aimed at kids. I also liked how they had statues from the old zoo. Overall, I'd visit again!

  • 5/5 Ant C. 7 months ago on Google
Have fun, and my kids loved it. Got to see almost everything in about 4 hours. We missed the petting zoo area because they closed down at 2:30. Other than that, we had a blast.

  • 5/5 Nathan D. 7 months ago on Google
Overall, I thought it was a pretty good zoo. I've been to a lot of zoos... I was pleased. Lots of interesting animals & exhibits. I'll admit, I did get lost. That was probably the worst part of it. The layout was a little confusing. But we managed. And we saw pretty much everything. There were definitely plenty of empty exhibits & enclosures, but the other animals that were out, made up for the lack of exhibits.

  • 5/5 Danny D. 6 months ago on Google
Member here and we love taking my two year old there to see animals and get some exercise lol. The bird show is open now and saw the new rhino. Different every time. Sometimes u see the animals more active than others. My boys favorite are the monkeys, elephants, giraffes, and flamingos. The animal that I’ve only seen once is the jaguar. Things opening back up. The lil goat petting area was cool.

  • 5/5 Mary J. 6 months ago on Google
I honestly have a love hate feeling about zoos. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. They have a wide range of animals including giraffes, elephants, kangaroos, gorillas, etc. My favorites were the primates including a female orangutan, so sweet.

First time here and I had a great time. Seeing every habitat and animals it was an amazing sight. The walk was expected and I would get confused here and there on the trails but I think I got use to it for my next visit.

I went for a Halloween day. Everyone was all dressed up. The kids were really cute. Not all animals were out. the picketing in front was not cool. They were shouting with bullhorns about how the kids should know their parents were bad for going there and not an animal preserve. I saw that some kids were even scared by it. Also if you need a motorized chair, they only have 2 to rent. Over all a nice day.

  • 5/5 Doug T. 5 months ago on Google
Kids and adults liked it. Reasonably priced Free parking. Food costs were around 8 to 14 dollars a person without a drink. Souvenirs were a bit pricey, but that is how it usually is with places like this. There was a lot of walking both uphill and down. Think i ended the day walking around 5 miles plus. Can rent strollers and electric carts for people who need them. There is also the shuttle that goes around the perimeter of the park. There is a carousel you can ride for 3 dollars. There are plenty of restrooms throughout the zoo. Bring a stroller or wagon if you have children. Would go back again

Went here on a Wednesday evening for the LA Zoo Animals Aglow light special ✨ The displays were very neat to look at, some of them very intricately designed 👌🏽 It was fun walking through the different settings and taking pics with my friends Very few animals on display at night as most of them were asleep 😴 The ones we did see were either sleeping, resting, or pacing around their enclosures (I didn't particularly like seeing that as it reminded me of someone dealing with anxiety and stress 🥺) But overall, it was a nice event Food is VERY expensive ($12 for a hamburger 🍔 and fries 🍟 😟) so I recommend eating before or after entering the zoo

  • 4/5 Steve U. 5 months ago on Google
L.A. Zoo lights are pretty cool. Great date night or great family night for the little ones. Maybe 2 hours to tour the zoo, so it doesn't eat up the whole night. We'll run. Foods, snacks and drinks, apleanty. Highly recommend.
