This gallery is located in central Palermo and features 'modern' artwork (from the 1700s onwards). There is a strong focus on regional artwork with many Sicilian artists present. The content is varied, from mythological and religious artwork to modern portraits. Despite what other reviews say, this isn't a small gallery- there are multiple floors. I would advise dedicating 2 hours to the gallery. There is also a café and bookshop. Toilets are available throughout the gallery.

Great place! Organized, clean and the exhibitions are held with all care. When I was there I was delighted to check a Leonardo da Vinci's very technological exhibit. If you have the chance, don't miss it.

Don't be misled by other reviews suggesting it's small, there's plenty here! Spread over 3 floors and myriad rooms, there are hundreds of pieces to look at; you could comfortably spend a couple of hours looking around. The exhibits were quiet without being deserted. There are toilets publicly available, a rare treat for Italian attractions. There is also a café in the gallery, but I did not visit it. The full price ticket was €8. The exhibits could be greatly improved with more information; each piece has the name of the work, the artist and the year of creation, and each room has some general information about the thematic linking of pieces in the room. I found myself Googling for context a lot. Worth a few hours, especially on a rainy day!

Very interesting place! A bit creepy with all those eyes watching you. We did not see a performance as the puppetmaster was ill.

This museum has a nice collection of paintings and sculptures from the periode 1870-1930, it is not really big, but nice. A lot of the landscapes reflecting Sicily or Italian locations. First Sunday of the month free entrance!

Modern is a relative term! This beautifully created gallery takes you on a chronological tour of art from the ancient to contemporary. Each room tells a story.

Lovely museum in a former Franciscan, convent and Palazzo. The collection is focused on lesser known Italian artists from the 19th and 20th centuries.

A peaceful place to contemplate some beautiful paintings away from the crowds. I always am amazed how many great artists there were in Europe in the 19th century in particular whom I have never heard of, in part because many famous collections are so focused on the Parisiens. This is an example of how it pays to travel around and go to regional galleries.

Very good museum, 19th/20th art on 3 floors. Permanent and temporary exhibition for 12€ (combo ticket). Cafeteria inside and not very crowded.

The comments who are saying it’s very small most likely missed out that the museum is 3 floors (+ temporary exhibition in another building). The floor of the museum is small, and the other two are in another building so I absolutely see how they could be missed (I almost missed it myself, there should be bigger signs). I recommend to take the audioguide. It was interesting and gave new perspectives. Nice collection over all with lots of local connections. Would go back. Free entrance every first Sunday or the month.

Was open during Xmas 2017 despite Google. Great exhibition of Bresson at time. Rest was also very good with some very impressive classical sculptures and early contemporary paintings.

Palermo - hot old wild and dangerous. If reincarnatiin works local peple seen everything - rome latin basilics, dome bytazantine architecture and arabs mosaics. more orient, africa than europe. medias, mermaids, and ancient Greek mythic heroes shake hands around fountains. The air smells of passion through viciousness, and captivating Arabic music plays in the square Intense, Fascinating place for stay. All around are beautiful parks ful of beauty and rocky bizarre ultras falling into the pure Mediterranean sea, which is dominated by the mysterious god Neptune.

Fabulous collection of Italian art. €10 entry. In beautiful old building spread across three floors with an elevator. Was almost empty had the place to myself which was great! I loved all the fin de siecle turn of the century paintings the best. Some amazing sculpture too Lots of great Italian artists I’ve never heard of. Fantastic!!

Absolutely stunning museum! Loved the permanent exhibit from beginning to end and didn’t get bored a second. Beautiful landscapes, classical portraits and emotionally charged statues fill the halls here. Highly recommend for all art enthusiasts that stop by in Palermo :)

I would allow 2 trips to this gallery to do it justice. One of the few museums or galleries in PA which opens in the pm on a Sunday . Would not have been my definition of modern art but I'm a pleb .

What a great find. We had a truly wonderful experience here, walking slowly, enjoying each spacious room. As you enter the room, the lights turn up illuminating each piece. As a landscape painter, I found the range of artists here inspiring. Staff helpful. The building itself is stunning. Highly recommend xxx

On the 1 floor interesting paintings and sculptures on a 2 floor not much to see. There's no heating in the museum so it's very cold inside.

Nice collection, specially some of the local themed pieces. I would not really call it a "modern art" museum. Got in for free. Fist Sunday of August or not sure why. Was glad to hear it that I did not ask for the reason :D

Palermo's Modern Art Gallery is hosted by the exquisite Palazzo Bonet (located next to Saint Ann church) and exhibits artworks from the 19th and 20th Century. It's a good opportunity to admire masterpieces from various modern art currents that alternated in Italy at the beginig of 20th Century, including Futurismo, Novecento, Arte Povera and Metaphisical Art among others. There's also a hall dedicated to Sicilian Novecento, for a more local flavor. The exhibition is well organized and starts in opera style with the dramatic painting "I Vespri Siciliani" by Erulio Eroli. The gran-finale is ensured by masterpieces signed by Guttuso, Pippo Rizzo and Sironi. The only downside during my visit was the lighting of the gallery, which was very poor in some of the halls, ironically in the ones displaying the bright Lojocano's landscapes. Gallery's bookstore worth a visit as well.

Great collection of art! Nicely curated with cute wine bar in a courtyard!

The people working there are nice and it’s clean. However the art is underwhelming.

We went for a classical music concert in the evening and the atmosphere was great as was the music. So no experience regarding the exposed artworks but great atmospheric place in the evening
