The magnificent ancient Devi temple is situated in Urakam, a serene village, located approximately about 12 km from Thrissur city and almost the same distance from Irinjalakuda town when one travel towards Thrissur. The famous temple situated there, is the first amongst the major 108 Durga temples, popularly called as "Ammathiruvadi Temple". Urakam Ammathiruvadi Temple is an architectural marvel with its majestic Rajagopuram (ornamental gateways), Mathilkettu (compound walls), ootupura (feeding hall), nalambalam (building immediately surrounding the sanctum sanctorum), the double storied Shrikovil (sanctum sanctorum) and the serene atmosphere maintained at the inner temple. The Valayadheeswari Temple or the more popularly known as Ammathiruvadi Temple of Urakam is the foremost of the 108 Durgaalayams (durga Temples) of Kerala.

Deity of this temple is Amma thiruvadi. This temple provides positive energy to devotees. Urakathamma thiruvadi temple has calm atmosphere. No entry for non-hindus. This temple is famous for 'Thrikarthika' and 'Mahanavami' celebrations. The temple has greenish surrounding. Entry timings are 4.30 - 10.30 AM and 5.00 - 7.30 PM.

The Thrikkarthika festival celebrated on Karthika asterism in the Malayalam month of Vrishchikam is considered as the birthday of Ammathiruvadi. Special ezhunnallathu (procession) of caparisoned elephants and the grand feast given to the devotees are the major highlights of karthika festival.

The famous temple situated there, is the first amongst the major 108 Durga temples, popularly called as "Ammathiruvadi Temple". Urakam Ammathiruvadi temple is an integral part of the 1400 year old Arattupuzha Pooram festival. Arrattuppuzha pooram is called as Deva Mela, where all the gods and goddesses assemble together in the presence of Thriprayar Thevar (Sri Rama), considered their head. Navaratri, Thrikkarthika, Pooram, Illam Nira are the famous annual festivals.

Considered to be one among the 108 Durga temples in Kerala. According to legend, main deity Urakathamma is considered to be the manifestation of Kanchi Kamakshi. The temple is also renowned for the prominent role it plays in the famous Arattupuzha festival. The temple premise exudes a deep sense of calm and peace. The serene atmosphere coupled with the magnificence of the deity instills calmness into the mind of the devotees. Likewise, the temple's architecture is exquisite and is a sight to behold. The tranquil atmosphere of the temple is truly a rejuvenating experience

An ancient Devi temple very close to Thrissur town. We make it a point to go there every Vijayadashami day, since last 27yrs. The temple structure is very old and is fully made of laterite, surkki and other materials. No trace of cement concrete anywhere. Ambience is very positive.

Mahanavami .. There are many days when the mother will come out to see the land and bakthajanangaleyum .. Gourd of honor okke koduthaanu out of ezhunnullunnathu .. Mahanavami.. Gourd of honor okke koduthaanu പുറത്തേക്ക് ezhunnullunnathu.. അതൊന്നു കാണേണ്ട കാഴ്ച ആണ്.. അമ്മേ ശരണം ദേവി ശരണം 🙏
