What can I say? We turned up out of the blue - I don't recommend doing this, as you have to book, but we didn't know - but Hyacinth and Marcia were beyond accomodating, and their nephew, Brandon, a delightful young man was also helpful and very personable. The food that was 'knocked up' for is, as unexpected guests was top notch - especially considering that we're vegetarian. Many of the ingredients home grown. My only regret is that we didn't know if the place until we had almost no holiday left - we would have booked to stay here for days, had we known. A bird-watchers'/photographers'/foodies' paradise.

Awesome place! You'll be amazed by the hummingbirds flying in front of you while enjoying delicious homemade food. They you a lot of home grown products, so it was very tasty. In our case, as vegans, they prepared a very diverse and delicious meal. I always like when you really 'meet' the people who prepare your food and this family is very empathic and so friendly. I wish I had the time to stay longer! Don't forget to check out the garden.

Best, no probably the only locally cocoa infused cuisine on the island. Rooms are available for a longer stay. The atmosphere was wonderful and the service exceptional. You do have a little waiting time as the food is prepared on arrival for a fresh flavor and hot taste.

Café Mariposa is a quaint place which offers authentic indigenous cuisine. It’s cosy and intimate with service from friendly family members. It gives you a glimpse into the past.

Very pleasant and very attentive staff. Imaginative, original and very tasty cuisine, based on the culture and geography of the region (Lopinot).

WOW! The only way to accurately describe my visit ... WOW! From the welcome (even by the beautiful humming birds) to the farewell, we were made to feel special ... the warmth, the attention and the hospitality ... WOW! While there were other patrons, the service we received was as if we were the only ones there. And the food! It was awesome. It was fresh, thoughtfully plated and served; with cocoa deliciously and creatively weaved throughout our meals. I suffer with many allergies and this wonderful family did all in their power to ensure my experience wonderfully memorable. I look forward to my next visit which has to include their bed and breakfast option ... Swallow tail is my favorite room. Yes, we were even able to tour their rooms as well. If you haven't visited yet, make sure it's on your bucket list. Café Mariposa Gardens, family owned and operated, is at the top of my not to be missed experiences in Trinidad.

The food was delicious and the staff welcoming and gracious. The drive to get there for someone that doesn't know the area is horrendous also parking on the street was not fun.

Amazing experience from start to finish ! Marcia helped us coordinate travel to Lopinot and customize our tour. When we arrived in Lopinot we had a chance to fish at neighboring Agua Viva and learn about medicinal plants. We returned to Cafe Mariposa Garden for a tour of the grounds (which were BREATHTAKING). We learned about the history of Trinidad through food / crop then, enjoyed a multi-course meal. Each dish was infused with cocoa and more importantly, delicious. A true farm to table experience. Hummingbirds flew around us as we ate. It was so relaxing. Then, we made rum balls from locally sourced chocolate (and ate them- YUM). On our way back, our driver pointed out historical landmarks. The views were INCREDIBLE. We only spent the day there but, it is also a bed and breakfast which seems great for couples/ families. Since the tours are customizable they can really cater to most ages/ group sizes. Would highly recommend !

Cafe Mariposa was one of the most beautiful cafes to visit. The food / beverages were excellent and the service was top notch. This family run restaurant was warm, welcoming and felt like home.

If rural and rustic is your thing, then you may like here. The restaurant sits on about one acre of land with an array of flowers and botanic trees and plants. It is all nature and a perfect getaway from the hustle. Visited here for restaurant week but it was not worth the $350.00 per person. Food was okay and service simple. Ambience is rural and rustic with friendly service. Must try the rum punch and Sangria.

Beautiful place.. the owners are extremely welcoming. Learned so much from your very own moms and aunties (the owners/committee) makes you truly appreciate being a Trini.

A must visit whenever you're in Trinidad. Not only were the owners welcoming, but they provided a full on history lesson about indigenous coco. It's a fantastic place for a class outing or just an intimate getaway. Versatile and captivating.

Service was exceptional. The staff were very pleasant and attentive without being intrusive. The ambience was incredible with views of the gardens and the hummingbirds flitting around nearby. The food was different as most of it was chocolate infused. An all round pleasant experience.

An exquisite and peaceful hideaway. Located a stone's throw away from the Lopinot Historical Center, Café Mariposa offers a hearty and rustic level of comfort that is married well with the perfect view of local trees, plants and gorgeous humming birds. The menu offered during Restaurant Week was very tasty to say the least. The friendliness and efficiency of the staff was most exceptional!
