The museum is filled with a lot of rich history along with various artifacts to see and learn about. There is a lot to discover there, from learning about how sugar is processed, to the different types of sugarcane and so much more. There is also a variety of items to taste such as jams, honey and rum as well as a shop to buy some of the products that are tasted. Definitely had an excellent time and is a place i would recommend.

Fantastic museum in an old sugar factory filled with all sorts of Mauritian history and includes sugar and rum tasting! You could easily spend a couple of hours here. The restaurant is also in a beautiful setting with delicious food. Highly recommend adding this to your itinerary! 👍

Museum was good, very interesting with lots of information about the industry and the island.. we took a guided tour. There was sugar and Rum tasting at the end. A lovely restaurant in the compound, however we did not have time to stay and have lunch. We coupled the visit with the botanical garden nearby, which can be covered in 60 - 90 mins.

Very informative and descriptive tour of Mauritius history and past as well as the full process of sugar cane to sugar. First is brief introduction to sugar history. Then a rather thorough tour of Mauritius history and rise of sugar cane cultivation. Then a tour of all machinery used in the cane processing. Finally finishing off with cane cultivation and rum production.

Such a great setting and super organised! There’s wifi in the factory and if you download the app, you could listen to the audio that explains the whole tour. From the machinery to Mauritius history, culture, everything was well presented! In the end of the tour you go to this lovely boutique area that you could taste lots of sugar, honey, and rum!!!! Even a cocktail :) loved it!

Honestly, I find the entry ticket quite expensive at RS800. However, it includes free samples of sugar cane products such as sugar and rum. The museum is extensive, filled with detailed explanations on Mauritius' history and the sugar cane industry. While there's a lot of information, it could be condensed. Don't miss their unique homemade rum and sugar for baking – they're worth trying. It's a worthwhile visit if you have an hour to spare.

Very good museum with amazing Mauritius history section, detailed display of making sugar with walk around tour of the big machinery. Bring water with you, because it gets hot inside. At the end of the tour, you get sugar, honey and rum tasting. We have to give special thanks to Darshinee and Laura, for making rum tasting session fun!

My partner was a bit sceptical to go here, but we were pleasantly surprised ! The museum, that’s located inside an old sugar factory, is very big and contains a lot of information about the history of Mauritius, which we enjoyed learning about (see outline of the museum on the picture attached) The museum is very modern and well maintained. We payed 500 entrance fee and that’s totally worth it considering how much information can be found in the museum. After the visit, there’s a nice shop with a free sugar tasting (12 types!) and I liked that you can buy special kinds of sugar that normally are on sale in Harrods or La Fayette. If you visit any museum in Mauritius, suggest to go here !

Really an adventure. You need a minimum of 2 hours to go through. It is an enlightening place full of history, you also need to be patient in order to fully take it all in. And then there is the sugar and rum tasting at the end of it all which is just an amazing way to finish the adventure.

Very lovely and descriptive museum. I actually didn’t expect it to be still connected to a functional sugar factory. Despite previous comments, I found the panels and plaques very interesting (it’s a museum: read!!) and the price quite fair (you traveled from the other side of the world, you can pay 500 rupees!). The tasting of sugar, rum, honey and jam at the end of the visit was the cherry on the pie! Happy we were there!!

A museum that takes you into the history of sugar. The combination of the old factory, old photos, text and the possibility of an audio tour via your smartphone is very nice. After visiting the museum, don't forget to visit the restaurant. We had a delicious vegetarian lasagne here.

A really sensational must in Mauritius! So well done, very educational - from geology and history of the island to recycling the sugar muds. Sugar -/ and rum tasting included. Great outing for the entire family. Make sure to have lunch at the fabulous Le Fangourin!

What an amazing experience we had! Our whole family, including two little ones aged 5 and 2, visited this place, and it was a blast! If you’re in Mauritius, you just have to check it out. Not only do you get to see how they make sugar, but you also dive into the island’s fascinating history. The content is super interesting, but if you want to read it all, plan for a good 3 hours. The shop and rum tasting is also very great. Don’t forget to grab the app from the entrance hall using their free wifi. It’s your ultimate audio guide, and it’s easy to use. The cherry on top was the restaurant - such a cozy and family-friendly spot. And the food? Yum! We all loved it! You’ve got to add this place to your must-visit list. You won’t regret it!

Feb24- You get a lot for your 700 entry fee. (800 more for sugar cane and mixology experience, we didn't do) The factory equipment, the walk around all telling you how sugar was made are amazing and beautifully kete/restored. More importantly tells how the slave trade was the backbone of Mauritius. To think it wasn't until the early 20th century that indentured labour started to me emerge out of "shackles" even though slavery was abolished in early 1800s. The tales are heartbreaking. Foreigners have a lot to answer for. You finish via the shop but you get to do a rum tasting and a sugar tasting. Again, both fascinating! Would recommend.

Went here on our last full day in Mauritius. I wish we had gone earlier, a very informative self guided tour using a downloaded app( free WiFi). Lots of information about the island and sugar cane. Followed by a guided tasting of the sugar. Browse the shop and visit the restaurant where you can just get coffee and cake. And it is not too expensive.

A definite must when you’re in Mauritius. The tour is educational and fun. The place is truly amazing, there’s a breathtaking little waterfall onsite, a cute restaurant which sells lovely food, rum-tasting (at an additional cost), sugar tasting, jam tasting, the list is endless. This place is very laidback and breathtaking.

Date of visit: November 2021 Extensive amount of information on not just sugar manufacturing but mauritian history and culture. Could easily spend hours in here but my attention span fizzled out after 1hr. Large area in the old factory. Tasting of sugar and rum towards the end. Wheelchair accessible Restaurant next to museum is good. Had no problem parking.

If you have time to kill, then I would recommend to visit L'Aventure du Sucre. You might require around 2 hours to finish the tour which ends with sugar tasting and souvenir shopping. The best part is its not just about sugar it's a lot more, they explain the history of the island, the early immigrants, the colonization, and much more. The entry tickets for the experience are a bit pricy for the tour which you take by yourself , its around 550 rupees per person.

It is indeed a great adventure to embark on. They have some tours with guide in French but they have an app with audio guide in more languages. You just play the number when you are in front of it. They tell you the whole story of Mauritius and what role the sugar canes and the rum had in it. It is a modern museum. You should take at least one hour if you hurry through the way. At the end you have the rum tasting which was a great way to see different types and choose what we like.

Great museum. Dedicated to the production and history of the sugar trade. We went on a private tour. When you go in they tell you to download the tour app to hear the guide. It was much bigger and longer than we thought. My husband has walking difficulties and we had to search out seating for rests along the way. Loads of info. There's sugar tasting and rum tasting at the end. A small shopping area. Nice grounds. Café

If there's one place you can go to visit to know the history of Mauritius this is the place. It's a big museum in a former sugar factory. The museum cost is around 75 Mauritian rupee per adult (if I remember correctly). We got it for free as a stay in voucher from Le Meridien. We did the visit with some rum tasting. They have a restaurant, small shop to buy gifts, souvenirs, sugar, honey, vanilla, rum etc. If you really want to go through all the information available I would say keep 3-4hrs for this place.

This was a great experience seeing the antique spaces used to process sugar cane. There was a lot of history about the island and the sugar cane processing to produce different products, including sugar and rum. At the end of the tour, there was an area for tasting. The ticket is for rum tasting. Be aware that there is no sit-down area for this. You redeem your ticket at the back of the store near the bar in the rum section. It was a little confusing. Reasonable priced, and you can download an app to guide you through the museum.

The museum is a worthwhile stop and gives a great account of the history of sugar on the island. It’s well laid out and provides interactive information to visitors. Wifi is free and with the aid of an audio guide app one can enjoy your tour in the language of your Choice. The shopping afterwards is also great and one gets to taste both sugar and rum. It’s accessible for people with children in strollers as well. I would recommend spending the time here and making the outing. The tour can be how quick or how long you want it to be. Enjoy the rum tasting afterward but take some water with you as I could find any to purchase. Payment via card can be done on site. Whilst we visited in the off season booking ahead of time online will save some time in high season for sure.

Very in-depth look into sugar production and history in Mauritius. We were asked to download an app which talked us through each stage of the museum instead of having a guide walking us through. It’s quite nice to go at your own speed through the big museum. They go into a lot of detail which we found incredibly interesting. The sugar tasting and rum tasting at the end was also great. The staff went into detail about flavours and what to pair things with. Their gifts shop was also amazing! I would recommend checking this museum out if you are interested in history and want a longer history walk through experience with many photos and extra activities.

Great App with an audio guide you can download at the museum. This is coupled with many artifacts, info boards and short films. You learn all about Mauritius' history and how sugar production fits into that history. Then the entire production process is detailed. It's a fascinating place and you learn a lot. The sugar, jam, honey and rum tasting that is part of the ticket sweetens the whole deal😊

Lovely place.. vaste and classy! Perfect for night party or dinner events. They host parties with good food, service and music till 1am. Professional staff, the bar area/stage/dance floor is huge! The outside is very vaste too just that the flooring is rough. It is difficult to wear high heels or very long dress as we have either tarmac or bricks or grass mostly. Else the place is very spacious to host huge events. The place lacks a little bit of light. 🅿️ Parking: available ♿ Wheelchair Accessibility: available ♿ 🅿️ Wheelchair Accessibility: available ♿ 🚻 Wheelchair WC: unsure 🚻 WC: available & clean 📶 Wifi: unavailable ➕️ Additional: There is also tasting and visiting tours which I guess are paid.

This was a fantastic experience and pack with history on Mauritius and the sugar industry. The machnical process was amazing and very well maintained. We also enjoyed the sugar tasting with a wide variety and sages of the product. The rum tasting was also surprising to se the wide range of locally produced Rum. You will also have the opportunity to taste a variety of honey. The shops is very nice. I deliberately didn't add photo of the inside as this is an experience you need to see for yourself and the photos won't do it any justice.

Let me start by saying I am not a museum person. I took my parents here as I thought they would appreciate this more. But I have to say I was very impressed.!! A well kept place and beautifully co-ordinated museum that gives you ample information not only about history of sugar but of the island itself. You get to see full elaborate machineries involved in making of sugar. After the visit you get to taste the different kinds of sugar and also get to buy various commodities and liquer at the boutique. The restaurant offers good food and drinks at reasonable price. The staff are courteous and helpful. Residents pay 250, and tourists pay 450 rp for the entrance fee. It is well worth it.!!

Great history of the sugar cane transformation. Old mill transformed in a museum. Price for the entrance and the price in the shop a little bit high. Ladies there not too helpful and in a hurry. You will not sell many things like that. Also, avoid buying a bag in the shop, priced at more that 10 $ !!!!

A very nice expo on the Mauritian culture, the development of sugar in Mauritius and the history of the factory and PlanetR. I appreciated the app they created where you can listen the expo and also the rum and sugar tasting. I put only 4 stars because the expo was quite bulky- too much info to grasp at one time and quite difficult to know the path to the expo from the venue- you need to ask but value for money and interesting.

Elaborate sugar museum with lots to read and a good shop in the end! This sugar factory museum is beautiful amidst sugar cane fields! The museum has lots to offer and read. It starts from history of sugar to the process of making sugar out of sugar canes. In the end you also get to taste various varieties of sugar and buy the ones you like. Not just that, you also have rum and honey tasting shops. You could spend hours in the museum. We spent at least 2 hours in there. The only thing that didn’t go well here is you have loads of information to read and that can get overwhelming! I would have appreciated a guide talk us through and explain the whole history and process

(Translated by Google) Very pleasant place, with a restaurant overlooking a large wooded park. We go there regularly, the staff are charming and the staff accessible. We just regret that the menu was a little reduced, because we were a fan of the fish dishes offered (grouper, red coral, bourgeois and so on) no whole lobster either, too bad we should have enjoy at the time. The quality to price ratio is excellent. The cuisine is tasty without being gourmet. the museum is very interesting, allow two hours if you want to deepen the visit. It is also a pity that speculation made it possible to destroy the trees and palm trees that preceded the estate to build a luxury complex. It is also typical to see arriving with their load of sugarcane at the time of the season.

(Translated by Google) This museum shows the whole process of creating sugar, in fact, its building used to be a sugar factory. The tour is approximately 1 hour long and has the history of the creation of sugar as well as the history of the island, its population, customs, culture, etc. The friendliness of the people is very good, and in general the attention, kindness and warmth of all the people on the island is very high At the exit of the museum you will find things to buy. It is a very good cultural option. Additionally there are places to eat.

(Translated by Google) Interesting location. In the former sugar factory you will not only learn a lot about the different types of sugar and their production, as well as something about rum production, but there is also a lot of historical, geological and climatic information about Mauritius. Overall worth a visit. There is an app for IOS and Android that offers additional explanations. Admission is a bit steep at € 10, but you can also taste all types of sugar and 3 types of rum.

(Translated by Google) Interesting museum. From the old factory. The entrance is not expensive, substantial, at the exit there is a store where you can taste different types of sugar and buy them right there. The prices are reasonable. The local rum is also given to be tasted. The history of the island is described in great detail on the stands. The kids liked it. Not only do you get a great tour about sugar refinery but there is a very interesting timeline about the history of Mauritius. At the end of the tour you can have a degustation of different rums and there is a little shop. Not the best prices though!

We visited on 16 May 2022. The museum is horribly expensive - 525 rupees per person - so we decided against paying to enter the museum. I fail to understand how such a price can be justified. That would have been over 2,000 rupees for four persons. You may want to consider this if you head in that direction. Find Nomadic Charles and / or Luxury Travel Camel on Instagram for more photo’s and details.

This is a well thought out exhibit with a wealth of information. There is a very good app to download beforehand so do take your headphones! It was great how it led you through each section. This part I would give 5 stars. I have only given 3 as it is quite expensive, we did not get a chance to do the rum tasting as gave up waiting for someone to notice us (as did 2 other couples), there was nowhere to get a drink - we tried to get into the restaurant but were told that people were already waiting for tables. I suspect that this was down to lack of staff not tables as there were many empty ones. The boutique part looked really good but we were so hot we decided to leave in search of food /drinks and did not really look properly.

Good museum to learn about the history of Mauritius and how sugar is made. The language used in some of the text is outdated and offensive especially the words used to refer to black slaves and the indian indentured labourers but an educational place none the less and we learned a lot.

They have audio guide which requires 2 hours of your time. I as expecting it to be way more interactive, it is more like old-school museum. Definitely overpriced for 575 rs you don't get much... Tasting of sugar, jams and rums. One lady did really good job the other one looked like she is gonna die of boredom and seemed to know nothing. Not that easy to get there by public transport. Probably good for rainy day, otherwise I would just skip it

wonderful place for us and our son. very informative about the history of mauritius and of sugar. Could easily have spent 3 hours in the museum, had lunch in the restaurant after, and a few more hours in the grounds testing sugars. altogether well worth the trip, wish it was advertised better

I recently visited the Sugar Cane Factory and I must say, it wasn't as good as I expected. While I was excited to learn about the sugar production process, the tour felt a bit lacking in terms of information and engagement. The exhibits were limited and didn't provide a comprehensive understanding. Additionally, the overall organization could use some improvement. I hope they can enhance the visitor experience to match the intriguing concept of the factory. Best part is the sugar tasting at the end of the tour. For people who enjoy drinking there is free sampling at f the Rum also

Excellent. Lots of detail on the sugar making process, and also the social history of Mauritius. The original buildings & equipment ars presented very well; you could easily spend a day here if you stop to read everything. The shop sells a lot of local, good quality products and the complimentary rum & sugar tasting is a real bonus. The restaurant has a tasty menu, and delicious cocktails. Highly recommended.
