Easily the best meal we had in Mauritius. If you’re looking for super fresh fish and local vibes served by the friendliest couple you can imagine this is the place for you. Prices are fair and are listed on the wall. They only sell the freshest fish so you never know exactly what he will have that day. We had the lobster, shrimps in pepper and white tuna curry. Every dish was outstanding. We hung out with the owner for hours sharing stories and beers. (Also try the homemade vanilla rum). They even brought out some instruments and played some classic Mauritian music. Amazing experience. Go!!

Restaurant serving fresh seafood and if ever you want to order other food which you want to eat they will make it a must to prepare it. Recommended to eat lobster and king prawns. 😉

We reached there as it was about to close, and the owner was nice enough to stay open for us. He had very little left, and we managed to have 1.5 portions of noodles between the 2 of us. I got it as Chicken fried noodles and we also had some Boulettes to go with. Unfortunately the latter were taking time to be ready, and our noodles were getting cold. So we started on the noodles, and by the time the Boulettes reached us, we were almost done. Sadly, they were not tasty, and were an unwelcome addition to our meal. We had some Sprite to wash down our meal and that was a good ending to our lunch on the beach!

If you like seafood you have to come over for a meal. Fresh, friendly and incredible taste! Additionally you can have your dinner with a nice view through the beach side. We tasted some seafood around the island and this stay was the best so far!

We loved eating at Cabane du Filao during our holidays. The couple that runs the place are really nice, they make amazing fresh fish and offer a true local food experience. The food on offer depends on what has been caught. But everything has been good, we went multiple times.

Our friends recommended this place for rabbit fish as the best fish they’ve ever tasted. They were not wrong! This little spot with friendly hosts leaves a great impression, the fish was delicious, even the skin! They even put beers in beer holders - that’s a nice touch. It’s a quiet place along the coast with a breeze. Such a pleasant experience!

I went there twice driven by the good reviews on Google Maps. On the first sight, it reminded me a little kind of a fish market that you can find around the world, where local people can eat good, but cheap, without whole this fancy entourage. But it was wrong, because this place is in fact pretty expensive as for the overall conditions (I paid respectively 1900 MUR and 2700 MUR for dinner for 2 persons). The food was fresh, however served in a puritan "dirty" style (without attraction for eyes, I mean). The taste was "acceptable plus". You seat on plastic chairs and the smell of the kitchen surrounds you. Owners seem to be nice, but on the other hand you will not find there too much privacy as you sit just next to them and to the kitchen. For me the place would be fine, but the pricing - in terms of this condition - is somehow wrong. For 50% of the costs, it could be considered as fair. If you go to e.g. Grand Baie, you can find nice restaurants for that (or lower) price.

We had lunch there and it was superb. Arrived at 12 and they were just setting the chairs out. We ordered the calamari which was one of the best I have ever had. The batter had spices and herbs and the squid wasn’t over cooked. We then had the prawn curry and 500g lobster. They both came with rice, dhal and a tomato chutney. Both where fantastic and I would highly recommend. The staff were very friendly and spoke good English. They brought something to deter the flies and even offered to look after our one year old who wanted to run around. All in all one of the best meals I have had here!

Great little shack ran by lovely people. Ate some shrimp in cheese sauce with some beers and watched the gorgeous sunset. Absolutely worth the stop.

Exceptional! You won't find fresher, tastier seafood on the island. It is owned by the loveliest couple. Just a few plastic tables, friendly owners and delicious food: that is what makes this place so special. The homemade rum arrangé is also worth the trip!

Great place! A must go choice. True local cuisine. Such a small place, but full of taste. All dishes are fresh cooked. The man of the house does fishing on his own and the lady of the house does the cooking. You can naturally go to the expensive restaurants with white table clothes and fancy drinks. But I would insist you try Cabane du Filao once. You will enjoy the best local curry, cold beer and fantastic views.

Probably the best meal we had in two weeks. 2500 rupees for fresh pineapple juice, calamari, two crab soups, and two prawn curry. Tricia and Vicky have a great vibe.

This is such a special place. Food is exquisite - so tasty and fresh. We visited 3 times during a week. Best fish we've ever eaten - by far. Loved all meals- fish curry, grilled white tuna, grilled parrot fish and the fried calamari. Wish we had more time to visit again and try more. Will be back when we visit the island again.

This location is close to the beach in a wooded area. On the positive, the seafood was cooked well but on the negative, as soon as it arrived, dozens of flies were flying around the table. Some small flies actually landed in the food. It made the whole experience a nightmare. They used some form of smoking insect repellent on each table that did not seem to work at all but all we did is breathe it in from the other tables. Comments were made about the flies but I was told it was “outside” and expected but as it was a windy day there were less so on a calm day there would be more flying insects. Considering the price of the food and location, be prepared to be harassed by many forms of insects including mosquitoes while you are eating in the seated area near the hut where the food is prepared. There is no indoor eating area!

Owners are super kind, friendly and the food is just crazy delicious !! Directly from the sea to the plate, with a quick stop on the plancha/bbq. Quantity is more than what you expect. Best experience on the island ! 😁 (PS: go for the lobster 🦞😋)

Casual spot for dinner with a view of the ocean. Fresh seafood done well. We had the fried calamari and the fish salad and both were delicious. Vanilla rum was good too. Lovely friendly owners.
