Very holy, beautiful and peaceful place. Dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is the biggest and one of the old temples on the island.

The Maheswarnath Mandir Hindu Temple was built in 1888. According to legend, this temple complex was built from the proceeds of a huge pirate treasure, which was located in a cast iron ball - two half-shells. The temple is freely accessible and anyone who wants to enter the temple should only do so barefoot. Leave your shoes in front of the stairs. The complex is fascinatingly beautiful, like something out of a fairy tale, it is worth visiting this mystical place. Annotation: It is the fifth oldest temple on the island. The oldest temple is the Kovil and stands in Bon Espoir Piton, built in 1830 *** The Maheswarnath Mandir Hindu Temple was built in 1888, according to legend, this temple complex was built by the proceeds of a huge pirate treasure, which was in a cast-iron ball - two half-shells. Nice colors of the temple. But the top thing there were two Badyan trees. It is a pity that the mess is all around. But those trees! What a magnificent view.

Very colorful Hindu temple with several smaller altars scattered around the site. Very interesting to visit. Even got a private tour with an explanation from our taxi driver. Important: Take off your shoes before entering the temple.

Silent location, just very few people around. Follow the rules, they are marked with signs and are written on plates.

Oldest Hindu temple in Mauritius. We were rather disappointed with the condition. You can watch it, but you don't have to see it.

The first temple we visited in Mauritius on 1st day. Peaceful. Beautiful. Lovely. Très different de kailassam ou Tookay. We parked the car inside beneath trees.

Unique and pretty old temple. For tourists - be aware of scammers - a man told us to follow him and for showing an entrance asked for money. Afterwards we saw an information that this happens more often and the person is not officially connected to the temple.

Nice environment, just needs some renovations. The young pandit is okay.
