Beautiful place and an amazing setting. Shame when we went the wheel was broken and being fixed so we couldn't see it's full beauty but the mine trail was lovely and the staff were really friendly, helpful and chatty. National Trust is accepted too which was a bonus.

Amazing place. Definitely worth a visit the wheel is huge, the worlds largest working water wheel. Entry fee was £13 per adult at our time of visit in June 2023. Toilets, car parking. Just excellent 👌

Amazing place to spend couple of hours. Wheelchair users can get up near the wheel to see but there is plenty of steps if you want to go to the water house or miners walk, some are steep so not great for those that have bother walking.

Disappointed as not able to really see it due to scaffolding and work going on . However very aware of the history and obviously maintenance needs to keep it up and running . Own car park . Children go free . Adults are £5 each you can get a membership for £25 . There is a mine which you can have a look around.

Use your English national trust card to get in free. A tremendous monument to an earlier working life. Excellent, interesting spectacle, plus the mines and other places of interest within the entry price. Not suitable for young children or anyone with poor mobility

WOW, I have seen the wheel from books, from the railway, from afar but up close and personal it really is a sight to behold. The restoration of the wheel itself is complete, meaning I actually saw it working! There is still more to do, connecting the wheel to the pump, but everything takes time and money. There is a small entrance fee, then a guide points you to the mine entrance, you don a hard hat and get to go a short way into the actual mine entrance the wheel was built for (lots of water under foot and falling from the roof), then back to the wheel. For those who want, you can ascend up two flights of stairs, one narrow set that spirals the water tower, think slim if you meet a fellow traverser going the opposite way. On the top is a large flat walkway where you can get up close and personal to this majestic piece of engineering. It is quite mesmerising as it turns almost silently. The views both down and around are unique and beautiful. The one and only wheel of its kind in the world.

This is a "must see" attraction.... The climb to the top of the wheel is not for the faint hearted but you must try it for the view from the top is fantastic. A well ran attraction. The mine tunnel is also worth a visit at the top of the path. The engineering that went into building this so long ago must been seen.

Brilliant place to visit on the island, really good walk with various parts of the wheel and the history of it all documented on signs. Renovation has recently just finished on it too so the wheel looks amazing. Being able to have a walk into the mine is also good fun to see the sorts of conditions people would have to be working in back in the day

This is a really interesting place to visit. It looks like they are doing some repairs and once these are finished it will be working like new. Its fascinating how they used water and a large wheel to generate so much energy in the 1800’s. Standing on top and watching it turn is a fantastic experience, there are also good views down the valley. If you go to IoM this is one place you should visit.

We visited on the last day of the season, but everything was open and working perfectly,. Really good time to climb the waterwheel, very few people about so views and access were perfect.

An amazing wheel to explore both when you are going to the snaefell summit or through the normal course. The ticket costs you about £13 and it also takes pride in being one of the largest wheel operated. A lovely place for a wander and get some amazing clicks on a nice sunny day

Unfortunately undergoing restoration work at the moment. When done I highly recommend a visit and a climb up to the top. Spectacular views from up there, also worth doing the guided tour where you go into the mine a bit very interesting.

Great place to go on a fine day. It's something like 100 steps to the top. Really great views from the top. Free parking as well. Free for all English Heritage members.

Free to get in for National Trust members . Ace view of the top. The Wheel itself like Trigger's Broom, with all new wood, metal, bearings and paint . But a super job!

Interesting waterwheel/pump. Very tall and imposing. You can climb to the top. You can get there by electric tram from Douglas

A good place to visit. Lovely walks around the area too. For the more adventurous, you can climb the staircase and check out the views from the top of the wheel.

Good state of repair and looks good. Car park nearby. Licenced premised nearby. Good location. £13 a head seems expensive and only two on our coach chose to pay to climb stairs to top. Most agreed that at £5 a head they all would have paid. A considerable loss and worth considering / trial run.

The Great Laxey Wheel is a remnant of our industrial heritage. The Laxey Wheel is built into the hillside above the village of Laxey in the Isle of Man. It is the largest surviving original working waterwheel in the world. Designed by Robert Casement, the wheel has a 72-foot-6-inch diameter, is 6 feet wide and revolves at approximately three revolutions per minute.

Another great saving option with the annual pass available for island residents A Stunning condition of a good piece of mechanical history, loads of information with a high sense of respect for the old miners that worked in the harsh conditions shown. parking can be abit full in busy periods. Beautiful scenery with an option of taking a train ride. Highly recommended visit on the island

Beautiful. A lot bigger than it seems, it also gives you access to the little mine shaft, beware the narrow road to access it for anyone arriving in a bigger car. The stairs to climb up to the top of the wheel are only suitable for able bodied people as they are very narrow but worth the view! There was a lovely little gift shop close by with loads of free leaflets for more things to do in isle of man. This is something not to be missed when on the island!

Beautiful location £26 for 2 adults kids are free. My legs felt the burn but stunning spot lots of hills and steps. The mine entrance an added treat. Staff absolutely lovely

Great place to view some 19 Century engineering, well worth a visit, takes about 2 hours to view it all and walk the area during a quiet time.

Can't give it 5* because covered in scaffolding. Shame. Wasn't worth going in as photo wouldn't be good. Maybe next time. We did go to the smaller wheel at the other end though. that was good.

Free to N.t. industrial buildings, boards, climb for view up wheel. 3 min walk into mine. Lizard basking by seat we sat on. Guide book available. Under scaffolding at present. Real sense of history.
