During my recent visit to this bar, I was deeply attracted by its unique charm. The fusion of a German beer hall atmosphere with a selection of 50 craft beers was impressive. The small batch brewing equipment in sight not only showcases the craftsmanship in brewing but also adds a special touch. The staff's ability to speak multiple languages, including English, Norwegian, and Spanish, made the environment exceptionally welcoming. The American rock music playing in the background added a modern vibe to your establishment, the oldest bar in Tromsø. This bar is not just a perfect blend of tradition and modernity but also the best place in town for a craft beer experience.

This is a must stop for a beer fan. It is the taproom for Mack Brewery, reputed to be the northernmost brewery in the world. The taproom is in the cellar of the brewery. There something like 72 taps. Amazing! Come thirsty, not hungry. Plenty of brew but no food to speak of. With that many choices, get a flight- or three. The atmosphere is fantastic with memorials to some regulars from their long history. We arrived by ship to Tromso, which didn’t suck either.

the most traditional pub in Tromsø. the are working since 1928 with non stop…forget the Corona…the number of beers are surreal and beside the bar they have a shop with every ingredients to make your own. they also have a tour to the kitchen where they make their.

Oldest pub in Tromsø. Overall 70 beers abatible all from Norway. Three different glass sizes to choose from. Order at the bar and have your numbers ready. Plenty of seating and clean toilets. Enjoyed the many sour beer options available! We opted for a flight. Brew shop next door is great for souvenirs (shirts, socks, and even beer to take home with you).

One of the oldest breweries in Tromsø, with a wide variety of tasty drinks to try. No food on offer but they did have crisps and packets of snacks to buy. I tried the list of ciders and each one was delicious and can now say I like cider! My husband had a few of the beers on the list and enjoyed them all. A nice no hassle, no fuss pub where good drinks are served. You place your orders at the bar and then enjoy. Would go back for a cider or two 😜

Beautiful garden level pub! Excellent beer selection, three sizes to choose from, sample platters and real knowledgeable bartenders. The atmosphere is old European, lots of wood and brass, and plenty of classic games to play! Lighting is a touch bright and a bit too white, but nothing to really complain about. Lovely little place I'd love to return to anytime in Tromsø. They even had gluten free beer on tap!!

Huge selection of beers, which can be overwhelming to choose from. The beer is good (if you like beer), but it is extremely expensive compared to other bars (I will not even compare it to the price in the shops). The location is great and it was well preserved over time. There is a lot of history in this place, so I will recommend it for one visit only. If you are travelling on a budget, skip it! 😁

Good selection of beers. Nice design, cool place to have a beer and talk with friends. It is pricey, but with all free camping to sleep in Norway you should be able to afford one or two Pints.

Simply one of the best bars in the world. The place breaths local history and the beer selection is very large. Barman (forgot your name buddy, sorry), took the time to explain and recommend different beers and took us around to show us pics about Gorbatsjov and Rudi 😝

Cool pub. Oldest bar in Tromsø. 3 sizes for beers. Servers multilingual (of course). Heard English, Norsk and Spanish. American rock music playing when I visited. Definitely a scene

A great selection of many Norwegian beers. The flight comes with 5 selections of 0.33L pours so be prepared to drink if you are taking it on alone

What an excellent pub to visit with 50 beer taps so plenty to sample. Be aware the beer is priced with Norwegian prices so compared to UK very expensive. The pub is attached to MACK brewery who do provide a tour if the brewery. An excellent off-licence also attached selling a wide range of beers both in cans and bottles. Highly recommend a vist if you like your real ales just for the experience.

This is the best brewery in Tromsø. I like their beers. There is a wide selection of beers that are also from the south of Norway. I was here almost every day during my Tromsø vacation. I like their local Tromsø brew Mack 👍

Very good place to have a beer! Really nice decorating and amazing choice of over 50 beers. Some stuff to eat also.

Situated in the Mack brewery with their small batch kit visible next door, this is a strange place... has German bierhalle vibes but with 50 beers on tap! A huge range of Mack specials plus guests from all over the country, a most impressive list, all available in three size glasses. Prices are usual for Norway, and it's the best craft beer place in town by a long way, beer range wise.

Amazing selection of beers in tap. Can get quite pricey but not much more so that other places in Norway. 210 NOK for a beer is almost average, but the tastes are outstanding. If you like beers there's no better place in this area!

An historic brewery with a bar that serves over 50 types of beers. This is also the only brewery in the arctic circle. Overall, we had a nice flight of beers and it was a good experience.

If you can deal with the giant polar bear that greets you as you walk in, then the rest is smooth sailing. The whole place has a great feel about it, and there's beers for days. Some of the furniture feels like it's from a kindergarten, but this may be what Scandinavians do to feel even more giant. It's a good, solid pub. Enjoy your beer responsibly.

We went at about 6pm one evening and later on a Saturday. Beer is excellent you can buy small glasses so sampling a few of the over 50 draughty beers is less of a challenge. Friendly staff and patrons made for a relaxing evening and atmosphere.

Amazing old fashioned Bar. The beers are just as delicious, you can imagine. The Polar Pale yummm😋 I'm gonna miss it so much!! Overall, all the "Mack" beers are delicious. Friendly people work there. It was an an amazing way to finish the country skiing lesson

Oldest pub in Tromso in the basement under the Mack's brewery More like a British pub than any of the other Norwegian pubs I have visited but with Norwegian prices of course! Well worth a visit as is located close to the centre of Tromso and has a wide selection of beers, many of them local. A comfortable place to sit, chat and drink.

Feels like your in a pub in London. Great ambiance and excellent selection of beers. There is even a polar bear to have a beer with!!

Such an authentic and cosy pub experience. The staff are incredibly welcoming and will accommodate you if you have specific needs. The pricing is rather high which is to be expected but it's overall an amazing experience. Highly recommend Arctic Beer or the Coca-Cola they sell here as both are brewed in house in their micro-brewery and taste gorgeous.

Didn't eat here...but oh my, the choice of beer, so delightful! And the bar lady behind the counter was super helpful in suggestions of what to go for. Pretty awesome to be in the oldest pub in Tromso. My only regret is visiting it once during my stay near Tromso. Wish I could have gone again...

  • 5/5 Timea M. 1 year ago on Google
We stopped here as it was promoted as the oldest pub with lots of different types. We tried 5 samples which was prepared ahead but also you can mix it yourself. Glasses are 0.17l and for 5 of them we paid around £30 They have games you can play. It was nice experience

  • 5/5 Annette M. 1 year ago on Google
Amazing array of beers, even ones made at their own microbrewery. Great decor and ambiance, definitely a must see in Trosmo

  • 5/5 David W. 1 year ago on Google
The best pub in Tromso. 72 beers on tap! Yes, 72. 50 specials and 22 other Mack offers, ciders and soft drinks. Fantastic place with a great vibe, but not cheap. Most Mack main drinks are around 115Nok. Highly recommended for a beer.

I was there 4 days ago. The owner was awesome. He was very easy to talk to and knowledgeable about Norway. We tried whale here for the first time and it was awesome. Insane selection of beers. Try their cloudberry beer even if you don't like sour beers.

Probably the best bar in the world...unrivalled selection of beers outside of perhaps Belgium. But rocking some immense Jarvig ales. Original Sin being an absolute bombsite 13.5% imperial stout. Loads of room and super friendly staff. Magic in a town of magic.

  • 5/5 Travis R. 1 year ago on Google
Sure, the beer is pricy, but that's the case anywhere in Norway. Here at least you'll get a massive selection of beers and friendly staff excited to chat about the menu with you. If you're looking for a craft beer spot in Tromsø, this is the place you want to be.

  • 4/5 Ovid J. 2 years ago on Google
The Øllhall is a very quaint bar, the locale itself carries the aesthetics of age and slightly rustic style fairly well. The price is as you'd expect from a Norwegian bar, but they offer a wide variety of beers for those with the interest or just the curiosity for something new. While it might not be the most lively and conceptually intriguing pub in Tromsø, it offers a sense of homeliness and can often be a nice place to sit down and have a calm chat with friends (as far as bars go). I would not necessarily recommend it to someone who is looking for a high energy environment and a spirit of partying, but it is worth a visit for anyone visiting the town. (Even if only to see oldest pub in town) It might not be perfect, but the wide variety and the rather calm mood you often find there would be the reasons for my high rating.

Bit of a strange place, quite large, big bar, rather disengaged waitress, but for Norwegian standards great beer selection on tap (had a very good NEIPA here). It feels a bit 'cold' but I understand it's a bit the concept of these Olhallen in Norway, so it's kind of part of the deal.

  • 4/5 Lars T. 2 years ago on Google
Very nice rustical pub with very nice beer. But $18 a pint? (138 NOK for 0.5 dm3 cider) Seriously? That's the most I've ever paid for beer in my life, hence one star down.

Unbelievable selection of beers and all the staff we're in great spirits!!!

Warm, rustic atmosphere with lots of memorabilia. Definitely a welcome break from the snow outside. Great selection of beers and friendly staff.

👍👍 We had a booking for Saturday evening, and I'm glad we did as it was very busy. We got 2 starters, 2 mains, 1 dessert and 2 cocktails for 1630NOK (£130). Everything was delicious, but the reindeer stake was one of the best things I've ever eaten. So much flavour! The restaurant is very cosy and the...
