Rooms were clean, plenty of wash and toilet facilities, extremely friendly and helpful staff. The room was very warm but it's an old house. Would recommend ear plugs and creaky floorboards were a bit irritating.

Outside was incredible and truly beautiful, with great views. The kitchen was amazing and dining room was the best I've ever seen. Parking was easy and accessible, and it was a walk away from Hawkshead the most beautiful village in the whole lake district in my opinion. The beds were nice and comfortable with a sink in the room which helped, and the showers were nice. The toilets could have been improved upon however.

The hostel is beautiful and so is the surrounding area, but the location can only be reached comfortably by car. The wifi didn’t really work either, which can be nice for a remote area, but it makes it difficult to plan anything without connection.

Great place for team bonding. We had a really great time as we stayed in one of those glamping pods and was fantastic! Highly recommended if you are looking for a place to chill.

Nice room, big building, not a lot of sitting space for the amount of people, good location. It is not a cozy building like some of the smaller yha hostels but it is great if u just need a place to stay. Very happy with the drying room provided after a long rainy day!

Beautiful place to stay and connect with the nature. The pods and tents have a certain charm to it and the main building and other spaces are spacious and pleasant. I recommend it 👍🏼

Fantastic location around 20 minutes from most attractions we wanted to visit. Food was good. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful. Would stay again with children.

Stayed there in bell tent, one of my favourite YHAs. Beautiful location, overlooking lake, game room with the snooker, kids had massive ground to play games and football and we toasted marshmallows on the fire pit next to our tent. Loved it 😊👌

We enjoyed 3 nights as a family, our first YHA experience. Unsure of what to expect, we were more than pleasantly surprised. YHA Hawkshead is is a beautiful 200 year old building, set in unbelievable surroundings. The local village full of quaintness and history. We stayed in a bell tent, which was simply furnished, with a picnic table and firepit outside. The futons were surprisingly comfy and the lockable storage a great asset. We took our own stove, but we did have a couple of main meals from the hostels cafe, the burgers were amazing! vegetarian, Gluten and dairy free options were also available. We also used the communal kitchen which was so well stocked with all your utensils and had fridges. The site itself was spotlessly clean and cleaning of the facilities were painstakingly done throughout the day by the friendly staff. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming. If you want to go somewhere, have a digital detox and recharge, it's definitely the place to do so. We will definitely be back!

We went here as part of a planned activity to take part in the Go Ape experience at Grizedale forest and the location was excellent. We cycled from Oxenholme lake district to here with e-bikes and were so pleased to find that they had plugs inside the bike shed to charge them. We stayed in the Tipi's which were a great unique experience, very convenient to not have to bring a tent or stress about it. The breakfast each morning was also great and filled us up throughout the day. Overall great experience and staff were really friendly, would recommend!

We were camping in the tipi which were great. Commmunal kitchen lounge facilities really good. Location is beautiful but very rural. Parking available but gets very busy.

Last minute booking, cheaper than most hotels yurts, tipis, pods in grounds. Ordered breakfast, good deal. Ate evening meal good food, saved us going out. Sat outside on benches, overlook lake, saw osprey flying. Common rooms have WiFi, bar & shop reception. Full kitchen, dining rooms. Doors woodwork needs cleaning & painting. Didn't seem over busy though full. Rush at breakfast- short wait for refills. 2 toilets & shower shared between 3 bedrooms in our block at the back.

Impressed by the cleanliness of the facilities and the pod was a great experience. Great location with nearby attractions, will return. - Dog friendly - Clean shower - Parking next to the Pods - Walking distance to the main food area

We spent two nights with the family, very basic room, no signal from my telephone operator and no WiFi, at least to watch a film, shared shower with water that descended very slowly,Pretty "poor" breakfast Just the full English breakfast the rest was missing, the salty I mean or variety of cereals, in other YHA structures we found ourselves better despite the price not too cheap for the offer, lucky the wonderful location

Nice experience here. Friendly staff. Lovely environment and surroundings. Short walk from Hawkeshead village along a road which isn't too busy. Ferry to Bowness/Windermere is just over an hour brisk walk, maybe close to 1hr 30 but a nice and cheap way to get across. Bus stop near Hawkeshead village, few pubs, shops, and cafés. The area is a nice alternative for walkers who prefer a quieter experience than more popular Lakes places. Hope to return.

Friendly staff, warm accommodation, comfy beds. Classic youth hostel. bit tired in places (sofas in the lounge and don't look at the cracks above the main stairwell, looks like an expensive fix!)

Great family stay in a bell tent recently , accommodation was clean and staff very helpful. Only complaint is noise on the grounds at night which is not great for younger families, nearby tent making lots of noise and drinking outside til early hours, did also notice group of adults turning up to their hired tent with their own bedding/beds (organised party?? ) - maybe needs a member of staff to have a wander around at night to check all is well

A lovely YHA, made special by the staff because they are so very special! They work really hard to be friendly and helpful. Well done Debbie and team. The members kitchen is excellent and kept really clean with loads of tea towels and sponges etc. they even have magic plates and saucepans that wash and put themselves away !!! The house and annex are well kept but will always need money to be spent on the fabric of the property. The view’s from the terrace are special and the lawns are superb, great for Petanque and a bottle of wine. It’s location next to Esthwaite Water and Hawkshead make it a good base for cycling. We stayed for 5 nights and loved it. We will return soon. John & Dorothy Z.

Steyed in one of the 'pods' great for a nice sleep, does what it says on the tin. Had a full breakfast the day after which was well worth the money. Overall a great place, clean tidy and lovely view

My friend and I booked a private room and stayed in 'Courtyard 6'. As always, the bedding was fresh and clean but the carpet had a smell of either sick or wet dog. I believe the hostel allows dogs so I settled with the fact it was wet dog, which was the only downside because I'm not a dog lover. We used the cycle store which was well used and this offered secure dry storage with the key obtained from reception. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Hot food was available until 9pm which was good for a Sunday evening, particularly because Hawkshead village doesn't offer much at the moment. The breakfast was very good. The showers weren't very powerful but they did a job. It's true that the interiors could do with modernising but they offer a value for money service. All in all, a lovely old building in a fantastic setting and we would stay again. Thank you.

A no frills stopover. Bit dated and not very clean. Rooms are cramped with. No cupboards or even a chair to sit on
