Really amazing architecture which is alive even till date and remains untouched. Must go to see if you are interested in old architecture and the must do it with a guide who can explain in detail about the uniqueness of the Inca architecture at 8000 ft height.

I mean this is one of the seven wonders of the world and pretty much speaks for itself, the view is more amazing than pretty much anywhere else on earth! I'd highly recommend getting tickets in advance to avoid the lines as well as wearing light clothing that covers your arms and legs to protect from both the sun and insects. Don't forget a wide brimmed hat, but you can get one on the way!

Last year I did a trip to Chile - Bolivia - Peru. We only had a few days in Peru so we decided to visit Machu Picchu. The morning was very foggy and we thought it would be a white out all morning. Luckily it cleared and the ruins revealed themselves in front of our eyes. You can feel a energy when you visit this place, you can’t really describe it but it is magical! ✨

Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Inca citadel, located in the Eastern Cordillera of southern Peru, on a 2,430-metre (7,970 ft) mountain ridge. It is located in the Cusco Region, Urubamba Province, Machupicchu District, above the Sacred Valley, which is 80 kilometres (50 mi) northwest of Cuzco. The Urubamba River flows past it, cutting through the Cordillera and creating a canyon with a tropical mountain climate. For most speakers of English or Spanish, the first 'c' in Picchu is silent. In English, the name is pronounced /ˌmɑːtʃuː piːtʃuː/ or /ˌmɑːtʃuː piːktʃuː/, in Spanish as [ˈmatʃu ˈpitʃu] or [ˈmatʃu ˈpiktʃu], and in Quechua (Machu Pikchu) as [ˈmatʃʊ ˈpɪktʃʊ]. Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was constructed as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438–1472). Often mistakenly referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas", it is the most familiar icon of Inca civilization. The Incas built the estate around 1450 but abandoned it a century later at the time of the Spanish conquest. Although known locally, it was not known to the Spanish during the colonial period and remained unknown to the outside world until American historian Hiram Bingham brought it to international attention in 1911. Machu Picchu was built in the classical Inca style, with polished dry-stone walls. Its three primary structures are the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows. Most of the outlying buildings have been reconstructed in order to give tourists a better idea of how they originally appeared. By 1976, 30% of Machu Picchu had been restored and restoration continues. Machu Picchu was declared a Peruvian Historic Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.

Amazing and beautiful experience! If you go early in the morning there will be less people. When it's cloudy it's very majestic! Make sure to bring Soles for the restroom. There's only one at the entrance so there's not one inside.

There is truly no place like it. Breathtaking doesn’t even begin to describe the experience of being here! This is a MUST if you are traveling in Peru. We paid for a tour guide and I felt it was definitely worth it to have someone share the history, plus it was great to have a photographer for my friend and I.

This is one of the true wonders of the world. It's amazing how the Inca people built this temple and small city high up and so naturally. I would highly recommend going with Circuit 2, as it gets you onto a relatively longer loop of Machu Picchu. Don't forget to reserve entry at least a month ahead to get the time you wanted. Visiting in the afternoon is actually good and you may get to see how the Incas designed their city to deal with water.

Well known as one of the seven world wonders, coming here has something really special. If you are fit and have enough time for planning upfront, recommending taking the whole Inca Trail up here, which would give you even more insights and show you many ruins on the way.

It’s gonna be a long journey to reach here, and also due to the severe weather it might be a bit tough to see the view in the early morning. But, take your time and encounter great scenery in the end. You will be able to come across adorable friends here as well.

Very well maintained and breathtaking! They have so many picture perfect spots. A bit of steep steps - so you need to be decently fit to be able to do the circuit. It took us around 2.5hrs with very generous breaks and stopping for many pictures and tour guide. Highly recommend getting a tour guide (around $80 USD for a private guide) to make the experience more enjoyable and you can soak in the Inka experience and understand the most city. It is very well maintained. It was warm and sunny in the morning. Recommend going early. We till the 7am ticket but reached there around 8am so that fog would have cleared. It was a picture perfect day for us. I heard you can go a little later if there is fog. Make sure to take pictures with the llamas up there.

It was more green and beautiful than I expected. Majestic green views are stunning. Definitely go there early morning to avoid crowds and heat. It was completely foggy when we got there but it cleared out in half an hour. It’s soooo beautiful and must see!! I recommend having a tour guide to explain everything around you.

Absolutely jawdropping awesome, it is about 15min of stairs to reach the top. You CAN take snacks and water in Plastic bottles they don't search your bag. The drive up with the bus is also beautiful but a little scary as the road is narrow with no barriers and a steep view down. I believe this is the most spectacular wonder of the world. Best to take the 6am tour then there are not a lot of tourists. Come see peru offered an amazing private tour for us.

Amazing, this is a must in your to do list. The view is incredible, you need to walk a lot of stairs but it is worth it. To arrive there, you need to take a bus or walk a lot. I recommend the bus so you don't arrive tired. I want on February so my view was with a little clouds and fog also a little rain. The route is just one way (you can't go back) so take as many pictures as you can.

I have no words to describe the beauty of this cultural and historical site. We came in Oct 2021 so still during pandemic time and wearing a mask in open space was just a torture. But the history of this place, the surrounding of these mountains just left me in awe. Interesting things lamas live here as in their natural habitat.

Machu Picchu which means ‘Old Mountain’ in the local Quechua language is a famous site in Peru. It is also referred to as 'The Lost City of the Incas'. The ruins of the Lost City are located in the mountains, at more than 2,400 metres/8,000 feet above sea level. This ruin site has more than 200 different buildings and structures. The ruins were never discovered by the European conquistadors but only became known in 1911 when an American archeologist was led to the site by locals.

Machu Picchu is a physical symbol of the culture that created it. It is located in the Andes Mountains in Peru, South America, high above the Urubamba River Canyon Cloud Forest. The Incan capital, Cuzco, the closest major city, is forty three miles northwest of this landmark. Machu Picchu is five square miles and eighteen square kilometers in size. This ancient civilization has an altitude of eight thousand feet and is surrounded by towering green mountains. Although covered in dense bush, it had many agricultural terraces that were sufficient enough to feed the population. Due to water from the natural springs as well as the agricultural terraces, it had the ability to be self-contained. Machu Picchu was created by the Inca culture for…show more content… The Incans spoke the language Quechua. They named this civilization Machu Picchu because it means manly peak. The Incan people were extremely skilled at constructing structures. In Machu Picchu, there were about two hundred buildings which included residences, temples, storage, and other public buildings. They had rectangular floors, steep thatched roofs, and trapezoidal doors. Some of them called masmas had three walls. The buildings either had one or two stories. They did not use any mortar to hold the bricks. Instead, they used cut stones, geometry and joints. Structures were so well built that they withstood earthquakes and many centuries. No other civilization in the ancient world could cut and assemble stone blocks so perfectly. Houses were in groups of up to ten and were around a courtyard or connected by alleys. In the center of the courtyards were large open squares for livestock and growing crops. Machu Picchu was separated into three areas: agriculture, urban, and religion. The agricultural section had stepped terraces and was built on the slopes of a mountain. The urban section was shaped like a U and had three thousand steps to a network of water canals. Machu Picchu had eighty percent more women than men. There were about one thousand two hundred people in a settlement. These numbers have been determined by archaeologists studying skeletal remains.

I have been twice and would go back again!!! Each time you learn something new and gain a different perspective! The first time was in August (the dry season), which is dramatically different than than it is in March (the wet season). An engineering marvel, you've gotta see this place. It's also strongly suggested going first thing in the morning. Also, book your tickets well in advance!!!

I visited for a university trip and it was a fantastic historical site to visit. We flew into Lima and then to Cusco. From Cusco we bused and boarded a train. Getting to Machu Picchu was long but really easy. The bus ride to the top is a little nerve racking but everyone made it just fine. I do recommend getting a tour guide to tell you all about the history and architecture of the place. I spent a lot of time hanging out and watching the lamas that roam this place. Some of them are friendly enough to pet and others prefer to be left alone. It helps if you offer them lush handfuls of grass. Everyone in my class had a wonderful time and it was a privilege to be there. There were people from all over the world visiting. I highly recommend visiting if you get the chance.

Machu Picchu is believed (by Richard L. Burger) to have been built in the 1450s.[18] Construction appears to date from two great Inca rulers, Pachacutec Inca Yupanqui (1438–1471) and Túpac Inca Yupanqui (1472–1493).[19][20]:xxxvi There is a consensus among archaeologists that Pachacutec ordered the construction of the royal estate for himself, most likely after a successful military campaign. Though Machu Picchu is considered to be a "royal" estate, surprisingly, it would not have been passed down in the line of succession. Rather it was used for 80 years before being abandoned, seemingly because of the Spanish Conquests in other parts of the Inca Empire.[18] It is possible that most of its inhabitants died from smallpox introduced by travelers before the Spanish conquistadors arrived in the area.[21]

One of the seven wonders! Such an amazing place to visit! No more words to describe how beautiful it is! It is a must go! BUT! Please be aware of the following things: no food inside, just water; there's no toilet inside, use the toilet before you enter the main entrance; you have to walk a lot, make sure you wear comfortable shoes; bring as less things as you can, otherwise you have to walk and carry all your belongings the whole time; bring a rubbish bag if you can, because there's no rubbish bin that you can find!

Probably the most stunning experience I've ever had in my life. Absolutely beautiful views, the only thing that I wish I knew beforehand was that when you buy tickets for your circuit, you're only allowed to go through it once and you can't go back so when you do go you need to take your time and enjoy the views I would have gone much lower knowing that I wouldn't have been able to go back but still an amazing experience.

Magical! The views...breathtaking!! It is hard to put into words what this experience meant to me. It was beautiful. I could not take enough of the views. And the Alpacas walking freely around the park was something else! I booked everything online before I travelled to Peru, train ticker, bus to Machu Picchu and entrance. Everything went smoothly. I had the option of getting a tour guide at the entrance of the park, but opted into not getting one. The weather cooperated, which is a bonus. I hope to one day return and maybe catch the sunrise, as this time I went in early afternoon.

Machu picchu gives a historical feeling. Even hiking is very thrilling, seeing this heritage of history amidst these hills really fills with zeal and enthusiasm. Here talks like Badia. After getting out in the pages of history, a man touching these stones himself becomes attached to his history. The texture of these stones is very different which is an example of excellent engineering. It is becoming necessary to understand the poignancy of these workers, which is part of this rich civilization in these hills ...

Most beautiful attractions on earth. We took tickets with the entrance at 6AM and it was definitely worth it to wake up early. Our tour guide Elisban was amazing and 15$ are totally acceptable for the experience and information that a guide offers you. You should book your tickets in advance and research which type of ticket you want (there are student prices). The Bus ticket up to the entrance are 24$ per person up and down. You can also choose to hike up for 2hrs. All in all it was the perfect experience and I would recommend it to everyone!!

No need for explanations, this is one of the most special places in the world. Ancient remains on two thousand meters and rumbling of Urubamba river down below give you a feeling that you can sense only here, especially if you can find some isolated spot. If you are in decent shape you should absolutely walk here, it takes some two hours I believe, you will value the whole experience more. Only downside, to much people, but would you expect anything else from a popular place like this

Recognized as one of the wonders of the world today, a “lost city of the Incas” exudes energy and allows visitors to unveil a little bit of a people who kept very advanced knowledge, especially for the time. The archaeological site is 2,450. The families who lived there mainly cultivated corn and potatoes and enjoyed the city before the arrival of the Spaniards, probably motivated by diseases. The city was only discovered in 1911. Even more interesting and surprising is knowing that the residents were small: men were, on average, 1.55 m and women, 1.25 m. Knowing this, it is almost impossible not to wonder how such a grand place was built. Literally a wonder of the world and even the most visited by tourists. To walk around Machu Picchu is to know the history, the way of life, and to be surprised by the knowledge of mathematics, astronomy and acoustics that the Incas had. An unmissable tour!

This place it's incredible, it takes time, effort, good planning, and money to get there. Make sure that you book your train ticket in the Vistadome train, the train ride will be the beginning of an amazing experience. Once you are at the archeological site find a knowledgeable tour guide, this will make great difference in your day at Machu Picchu.

Make sure you apply a generous amount of insect repellent. Those tiny flies are very aggressive at this altitude, and their itchy, big, red bites take weeks to heal.

Wow. It's all I was able to say while I was there just wow. Highly recommend bringing your backpack, as long as it's not over packed where you'll beore in the way, you'll be fine. Bring a rain poncho, they do not allow umbrellas, it is a rain forest so expect rain. If you're having trouble with elevation grab a coca candy. Otherwise take your time enjoy and just take it all in. Can't wait to return.

Absolutely delighted by this place. Totally blown my expectations! I did a 2-day Inca Trail hike with Crossover Peru with a chill group and an epic tour guide. We got a viewpoint that was only for the hikers and the site itself wasn't crowded at all. Would recommend visiting this place for any outdoor lover as the hike to this place is amazing, it embraces you in the journey Inca people did to get to this city.

Machu Picchu, also spelled Machupijchu, site of ancient Inca ruins located about 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Cuzco, Peru, in the Cordillera de Vilcabamba of the Andes Mountains. It is perched above the Urubamba River valley in a narrow saddle between two sharp peaks—Machu Picchu (“Old Peak”) and Huayna Picchu (“New Peak”)—at an elevation of 7,710 feet (2,350 metres). One of the few major pre-Columbian ruins found nearly intact, Machu Picchu was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983.

In the Quechua language, machu means "old" or "old person", while pikchu means either "portion of coca being chewed" or "pyramid, pointed multi-sided solid; cone".[14] Thus the name of the site is sometimes interpreted as "old mountain".[15]

Bette place to visit and it is been visited by several peoples wich made it as top notable tourist location. Machu Picchu is an Incan citadel set high in the Andes Mountains in Peru, above the Urubamba River valley. Built in the 15th century and later abandoned, it’s renowned for its sophisticated dry-stone walls that fuse huge blocks without the use of mortar, intriguing buildings that play on astronomical alignments and panoramic views. Its exact former use remains a mystery. And the poems of pablo neruda always...

Had a wonderful time today visiting, despite the weather and our guide.. Lots to see and well worth the trip from Cusco. Definitely bring some rain gear (poncho). They do not allow self sticks or umbrellas. I learned the hard way when they didn't me allow to bring it and it rained heavy twice. There is very limited shelter location while exploring and was soaked. Do some research on the site before you go. Also, throughly check out the tour company reviews before booking, otherwise you may end up with a par guide and really didn't get your monies worth. The coordinators at Machu Picchu kept things organized and following. You do have to wear a mask, while walking around. Also, if you are taking the train, be prepared for health declarations required and face shields (required on trian only). You can buy them before entering Train Station area.

While Machupicchu is an amazing place. The journey to get there in my opinion was just as amazing. It should take you about 6-7 hours driving from Cuzco to Santa Teresa, then a 30 minute train (it leave about 6am, 12:30 and the final one at 16:00) to Aguas Calientes. It is not an easy journey but it is well worth it from the breathtaking view on top on the mountain above Ollantaytambo to the jungle below and all the small villages in between. This for me is the best way to experience a trip to Machupicchu.

To actually get to the Machu Picchu site from the village of Machu Picchu you can hike up the stairs on mountain constantly crossing the swerving road. Or get the bus up, after hiking for 3 days to get here half of my group decided to walk and the other half got the bus. The ones who walked only got there a little before us setting off 15mins after us (we had to get early to wait in line for busses). The walkers were covered in sweat, and unanimously said they should have gotten the bus, walk wasn't that good and they didn't save that much time. You have to wait in a queue when you're at the top anyway to get into the site. So I'd advise to get up early and wait in line for the buses to start. We got up in time to see sunrise and was well worth it.

Finally were able to come to Peru, doubting to not making it in 2020. Even if it was strange to wander around with masks all the time, the guys from exploor did an exceptional job throughout our entire stay in Cusco. Peter was glorious, such a passionate guide. Happy we had him with us. All the logistics, from the private transportation to the train, they always made temperature checks, alcohol was available wherever we were, and everyone wore masks. The good thing is, that the amount of entrances is limited, we were lucky that exploor helped us organizing last-minute tickets, but you're paid off when you enter. .There are almost no travelers around and everyone keeps a safe distance. We highly enjoyed Machu Picchu, it's impressive and even better with less tourists! Glad we made it, and hope Cusco will bloom soon again, it's a beautiful place.

A magnificent Inca citadel and temple complex set high on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba River in Peru. Founded by the Inca ruler Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui in the mid-15th century, Machu Picchu (“Old Hill”) occupies a spectacular site in the High Andes of Peru, 50 miles (80 km) northwest of the Inca capital Cuzco. The fortified complex was primarily a sacred site dedicated to the Sun god Inti, as well as the administrative center for the region. It also enclosed a settlement of around 1,000 inhabitants (at its peak) and included accommodation for the aristocracy and a separate quarter of more modest dwellings to the south and east for the workers of the estate. Sun temple. The buildings of Machu Picchu are made from carefully cut blocks of granite in the characteristic Inca style, fitting together so precisely that they needed no mortar and arranged in irregular patterns to withstand the effects of earthquakes. The finest of these are in the upper part of the citadel, which had religious and astronomical functions. Among them are the Temple of the Three Windows and the Torréon, or Temple of the Sun, which acted as a sort of observatory, with windows aligned with the Sun at the summer and winter solstices and with constellations important in Inca mythology. Lost and found. Thanks to its remote location, Machu Picchu escaped the plundering of the Spanish invasion and remained largely forgotten until the American explorer Hiram Bingham came across it in his search for the legendary “lost” Inca capital in 1911. In an ongoing program of restoration, more than a third of the city has now been renovated or reconstructed.

You can only follow the route round in one direction. There are many prohibited activities on site, such as using a selfie stick, food and smoking, and drinks are prohibited. Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Inca citadel, located in the Eastern Cordillera of southern Peru, on a 2,430-metre (7,970 ft) mountain ridge. It is located in the Machupicchu District within Urubamba Province above the Sacred Valley, which is 80 kilometres (50 mi) northwest of Cuzco. The Urubamba River flows past it, cutting through the Cordillera and creating a canyon with a tropical mountain climate. Machu Picchu was declared a Peruvian Historic Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.[13] In 2007, Machu Picchu was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a worldwide internet poll.

While some people believe that Machu Picchu was built as a sacred site, others think it once was the summer retreat of an Inca emperor. It was built during the 14th century and probably more than 1,000 people lived there. As the site is build on a mountain ridge and thus always would be in danger of sliding down the slope during rainy season, over 600 terraces and a well laid-out drainage system were built around the city. The city is a magical sight and a great example of Inca engineering, as the structures and buildings of the city were also built without using wheels! More info on Machu Picchu here.

Getting there, if you do not opt for the reassuring convenience of the railway line, is a real adventure that turns rapidly into the thriller, thanks to the roads on nothingness traced by Indiana Jones and the casual driving style of the local drivers. --- The Inca city built in the 15th century, escaped from the blind fury of the Spaniards and "discovered" in 1911 by Hiram Bingham, seems to have come out of a remake of "The Lord of the Rings", with Escher at the stage and Lovecraft at the screenplay. Very disappointed and unimpressed. They try and hide the true history. The site is very bare. If you only want pictures then it's ok to visit, if you want true history better off doing your own research

Wonderfull and beautifull ruins from the old inkas. One of the world wonders. If you go to Perú you have to visit Machu Picchu, it´s a must. You can drive up with the bus or hike on a trail next to the street. From Cusco you can come with bus or/and train. On sunny days you can see very far to all mountains and you can see the hole ruins. It looks absolutly fantastic and with a tour guide you will get a lot of really interesting informations not only about Macchu Picchu. You need a ticket to enter it. For the best plan a hole day or sleep in a hotel on the foot of the mountain.

However good the photos make it look, it’s at least 200 times better. Probably the best place I’ve ever visited

What about one of the seven wonders of the modern world. Located 2430 m above sea level, it has the best preserved Inka ruins. Considered a sacred place, there lived about 700 people of royalty, who had culture and wisdom and not material goods. Its streets, staircases, temples and houses give wings to our imagination, due to the way they were built. It is very good to invest in a guide because this way you know the history in depth and nothing goes unnoticed.

Highly recommended taking the 4 day trek to see this. It was the hardest thing I've ever done but the most rewarding thing too. Views are stunning, beautiful and I felt truly privileged to see this with my own eyes

1(7) wonders of the world..✅ Worth the visit after 4days of great hiking.. Easy 2hrs to visit lower and upper MP. L Alternate option is to take the train and bus to MP for kids and parents. Kids friendly and great place to visit as part of family, friends and larger groups.. take as much pics as needed..

One of the 7 wonders of the world! Definitely buy your tickets ahead of time if you don’t want to wait super late in the center to buy the entrance ticket. Buy ticket for 7am even if it’s foggy and be patient to clear out by 8-8:30 to get beautiful view of Machu Picchu 😁

This place is one of the wonders of the world for a reason. The Pictures don't do justice to the beauty of the amazing Machu Picchu. Highly recommended to visit with a guide so you can understand the history.
