DO NOT COME! The ruins are closed to the public for reparations, and yet the administration keeps attracting people to come for nothing. Once you reach the top with the cable far or walking you have to trek like 30 minutes to reach a wall 100mts away and that's it. No access, nothing. It is a waste of time and money. You better do something else.

This majestic citadel on top of the mountain will leave you speechless. The tour is well worth as you will get a lot of interesting information about the history behind it. A magical place surrounded by breathtaking views.

I loved this place and its deep and meaningful history. The remembrance of a time where things were so much more simple yet very complicated. Everything about this place shows you how creative and destructive we can be. I highly recommend getting a really good guide and taking a walk back in time.

(Translated by Google) Spectacular waterfalls, the first is only 15m, but the second is 50m high, an amazing fall to enjoy with family or friends, I would return to this place many times. The only difficult thing for me is the access, first you must go with your own mobility for almost an hour and a half (22km of trail from Jaén) then descend about 20 minutes to reach the second waterfall, but you will not even feel the time because the nature around you It keeps everything excited. I did not find it on the map, so I decided to add it. I hope the few bad photos that I could take will be useful and I hope that better photographs will be added over time. And please do not get confused with the other San Andrés de Junín waterfall, that's another story. Greetings and encourage you to visit this waterfall.

(Translated by Google) The Kuelap Fortress is undoubtedly a place worth knowing and a beautiful experience, the fact of going up the cable car up to 2,000 meters and reaching the mountains is impressive. Walking through the citadel with views of the great fortress you are amazed at how the old Chachas lived, I recommend it.

It’s ok but not worth the walk, the cable car crossing the valley taking you to the other side of the mountain before you start walking is totally worth it. Actually I will recommend doing the Kuelap cable car only, it takes you all the way down the mountain and up again. Considering they are 4000+ metres mountains. Pretty amazing.

Pure tourist trap. You journey all the way there, you pay for a cable car ride... you get there and despite it saying "Ticket office" (with photo as proof) there was no ticket salesperson. I assumed that maybe I had to walk to the site to get them. Nope. I walked about 2km to the ruins and I was informed I needed to have a reservation. And no one, not one person, tells you that. It's just assumed knowledge. No one at the cable car station informs you of that before making your trip. And if you need to have a reservation why have a sign up that says "Ticket Office"? Probably the biggest waste of my time while staying in Peru.

Extremely disappointed. Long journey only to get to the site and find you can’t enter, only view from a platform from below. This view is literally just of a wall. Appreciate they need fix part of the site but I wouldn’t not recommend making the journey here until it’s properly open.

Caution: kuelap is closed to visitors please do not go here it is a complete tourist trap and a complete disappointment. Kuelap has been closed to visitors for several months due to burglaries in the outer wall. all you can see is the outer wall. neither guide nor cable car employee inform you that it's closed

It was a very nice experience all throughout. The only suspended cable cars in Peru offers breathtaking views. If you are in Chachapoyas you must go. I recommend going in an organized tour with "Kuelap Sumaq" agency. My experience was very smooth and the guide was very knowledgeable.

(Translated by Google) At the top of the northeastern Amazonian Andes of Peru, the imposing Kuélap Archaeological Complex is located, belonging to the pre-Inca culture of Chachapoyas. From the top, the green landscape shows that nature privileged this place, dressed in impressive flora and fauna, offering an adventure trip very close to heaven. This mountainous jungle located in the Amazon, served as a defense against some ethnic rebels due to its location and structure. Its mountains, surrounded by dense vegetation, show from afar a great stone wall of 20 meters high that protects the city. This fortress has only three incomes, all in the form of narrow, walled alleys. It is believed that the word Kuélap comes from the deformation of the word "Cónlap", name of a village that lived in the region. The fortress houses 505 houses, many of them circular, while on the outside there will be 420 circular stone houses with friezes in the form of diamonds and zigzags.

Teleférico from the village of Tingo is closed for maintenance every Monday, cost is S/ 20.5 per person, travel time nearly 30 mins. At upper terminal is archeological site office, must pay entrance fee here. Another 30-40 min walk to Kuelap. Locals rent guided horses. Walk through fortess takes +30 mins.

(Translated by Google) The place is preserved by the community of San Andrés, who raise funds through the entrance fee that is between 2 soles, at the entrance you can find snacks from the area on weekends especially, the place is very clean and counts with signs, it has two very beautiful falls ... It is advisable to go early to take advantage of the hottest half day, as it is a place of constant fog.

As of a few weeks ago because they’re busy making repairs after a colapse, it opened back up and we were allowed to view the outside of one of the entrances, but not go inside…. yet I found it worth it for the journey up that demonstrated how steep and inaccessible the place is to get to being 10,000 feet up. After seeing the ruins and taking that 1 kilometer hike up to narrow entrance (one of three), I enjoyed how I could now notice bits of ruins and the edge of the fortress peeking out from above on my way down while in the cable car to try to imagine what the Inca saw when going up and taking over the Cloud people… it surely deserves five stars when fully open. … but still worth the money and worth exploring north Peru

Very Disappointed nobody told us even on the website that we should have boots to walk in muddy and slippery track that is extremely dangerous, they don’t even provide walking stick. We had to pay 50 soles to go on a horse. Only 25% of the site is visible.

We just went to Kuélap. Don’t go to Kuélap if you’re coming from Chachapoyas. It’s definitely not worth paying the collectivo and teleferico to a place that’s almost totally closed. You need to make a reservation in advance, you get 45 minutes to visit the place, which you can totally do in less than 20 minutes. It’s really not nice! Wait until the place opens up fully again, then it should be very nice.

An interesting place. More so when you understand the it was built by hand, no technology. And the repairs have to be done with cement - which they didn't have, back in the day! The reason they're called ruins, is it's ruined. Not much left after 1500+ years. I read somewhere its the largest rock structure in the America's. Worth the money for a tour or to see it on your own. Amazing. that they could build things like this but can't repair it the way it was built.

  • 3/5 Jake M. 6 months ago on Google

Visited before it closed down last year but the site is breathtaking. Well worth a visit if you get the opportunity. I know quite a few people are disappointed at not being able to get close or into the site but I've travelled a lot less to see a lot less and been happy (Stonehenge is one that springs to mind). Anyway, it's worth the visit even just to stand next to a site older than the Incas in my view!

Awesome place. Cable car was closed for maintenance so we drove up! The road surface was good but you have to go very slowly. It was worth it! The paths and facilities were pretty good. Unfortunately the few signs were not very informative. And surprised they didn't mention the rest of the hill top, which has fragments of exposed walls but has not been excavated! If it was, this place could be massive. There are hardly any tourists here, so you can pretty much enjoy the place to yourself.
