My wife and I boondocked here for three nights. The price was great $8.00 and it was a fun time of the year to be mostly alone. The weather was awesome. There were many locations The provide wind break when it is windy season. As you can see in one of our photos we rode our bikes. Mostly the rides were short can't really go more than 3 miles unless you like hitting the trails. Unfortunately we did not take the trail we saw upon entering the park . We definitely will next time. Thanksgiving week.

We toured the lake campground but opted for the riverside, sites were much larger and we liked the views of the mountains very much! Bathrooms and showers were very clean and nice. Loved our stay and can't beat the price!

I love staying here! The rv areas all have water and electric. There is a dump station. Nice clean bath houses with very hot showers. Good water pressure at the rv sites. I can't speak on the tent camping or picnic areas, as I've never seen them. There is a boat dock.

Outstanding RV & tent park right on Caballo Lake. Level sites. Nice gazebos with tables. Fire pit -BBQ. VERY clean restrooms with CLEAN HOT showers. Dry sites and hookup sites. Free sewer dump and washout as well as domestic water refill. Beautiful views. Friendly staff.

Beautiful lake, the camping is very good, similar to most NM state parks. The lake is big enough for boats but calm enough for paddleboards. And there's lots of usable beach so it's never crowded. The fishing was decent, we got a white bass and a sheepshead (one each day in about 2 hour windows). The only real downer at Caballo is the damn gnats/flies. They are relentless and in your face, and Off/bug spray doesn't work at all! The ranger suggested dabbing vanilla extract on yourself, (swears the bugs hate it) but that's not something I carry in my fishing gear.... I'll try it next time.

Beautiful lake with the picturesque Caballo Mountains in background. Quiet campgrounds and beautiful views. The trails here are good too and there is a few perfectly placed benches along the trails that I enjoyed a great deal. If you go at dusk during early Feb you’re likely to see some Sandhill crane flyovers, we also had a herd of deer coming through several days in a row.

Lake is small but made for a nice calming adventure on the kayaks, hosts where very friendly, and the maintenance crew kept the park looking amazing. Will go back again.

Oh how I wish for a kayak. Several camping options, even corrals for horses, and primitive sites. Remember camping ettique; clean up your food scraps and don't leave a mud hole of wasted water. Be thoughtful toward the next camper arriving.

Needed a quick short break for some just me time. Caballo Lake State Park was perfect. Stayed three days & two nights. Quiet & peaceful. Hung a hummingbird feeder up the first afternoon . Seen 2-3 different types of hummingbirds all 3 days. The sun was shining. Lake was beautiful .Seen several fish jump out of the water in the morning and late afternoon. Awesome views & clean RV sites. Clean restrooms.

Great spot with a nice view of the lake that is walking distance, or you can drive the boat to. Area was clean as well as the bathrooms. Neighbors were pretty cool too. Looking forward to going back. Yes, they have all the hook ups, just reserve in advance.

Love the vibe here! The sites are well maintained but fairly close together. We stayed only one night passing through but would have loved to stay longer. The bridge was out and I got so lost trying to find it...Google maps sent me on a crazy wild goose chase but once I got there, I loved it!!

Not much to do unless you have an rv to park. No trails to explore. Nice scenery though

I just had a great time at Caballo Lake. We camped, went jet skiing and spending time with friends. My only two complaints were no toilet paper and the lock on the restroom 🚻 has a note how to lock and unlock the door but the man before me locked us out. Had to use a credit card to unlock the door.

Love the scenery here, although I didn't catch a lot of fish I know there is because you can see them the water is clear on calm days.

Don't follow the GPS for the last turn or it takes you to a dirt road with a sign that says private property beware of dogs. Just look for brown signs. Not sure if it's always like this but every walk we took even if we touched nothing were left with cactus spines in hands and arms. Beautiful view and friendly staff. The price is right but pulling spines/spikes out of my toddler was not fun.

The campsites have a wall and roof to protect you from the wind and sun which we needed. The restrooms were clean although the one nearest us was closed for the season. The sights are pretty and the stars are plentiful. Not too much to do nearby.
