Stockholm’s subway system is truly one of a kind. One hundred stations, each with unique art on its platform, walls or waiting hall. Since 1957 artists have played a key role when new stations have been built. And over time the metro’s older stations – planned and built without any art – have been spruced up with beautiful statues, murals, and installations. So spending a day in Stockholm’s metro is basically like visiting the world’s longest art exhibition. Here’s just a small sample of the beauty waiting to be discovered below ground.
