On
Oct.
20,
2022,
I
registered
and
paid
for
one
night
($130
through
Priceline)
at
the
Best
Western
Motel
(Palm
Court
Inn)
in
Modesto,
CA.
I
registered
my
Ford
van
including
the
license
plate
number
with
the
front
desk.
While
my
friend
was
in
the
motel
room,
I
had
to
do
some
business
elsewhere
(around
9:00
PM)
and
I
went
to
my
van
to
use
my
smartphone.
It
was
a
warm
night
and
my
van
was
very
hot.
I
removed
my
shirt
in
the
van
in
order
to
stay
cool.
I
don't
have
A/C
in
my
van.
Shortly
thereafter,
I
dozed
off.
I'm
68
years
old.
At
around
10:45
PM,
I
was
suddenly
woken
up
by
someone
who
was
yelling,
"Get
Out!
Get
Out
Mr.
Turner!"
I
saw
bright
lights
shining
into
my
van
and
there
was
loud
pounding
on
my
vehicle.
Someone
was
also
yelling,
"We
know
you're
in
there,
Mr.
Turner.
Get
Out!
Get
Out!"
I
nearly
had
a
heart
attack.
A
short
while
later,
I
heard,
"If
we
have
to,
we'll
break
into
your
vehicle."
I
have
no
warrants
or
wants.
I'm
not
on
probation
or
parole.
I
then
exited
my
van
and
saw
two
Modesto,
CA
policemen.
They
asked
me
what
I
was
doing,
and
I
explained
that
while
working
with
my
smartphone
I
dozed
off.
They
told
me
they
had
a
report
of
someone
sleeping
in
a
van.
They
didn't
specify
who
that
person
was.
(Later,
the
manager
told
me
it
was
probably
the
security
guard
who
called
the
police.)
The
police
told
me
I
couldn't
sleep
in
my
van.
They
told
me
"This
is
private
property."
I
explained
to
them
I
was
a
registered
guest
and
I
did
nothing
wrong.
The
police
told
me
I
couldn't
go
back
to
my
van.
I
then
told
the
police
I
would
return
to
my
room.
After
leaving
the
police,
I
was
so
upset
that
I
went
to
the
motel's
fitness
center
thinking
that
some
brief
exercise
would
help
me
to
calm
down
and
relieve
some
stress.
After
about
10
minutes,
I
decided
to
leave
the
motel
to
look
for
a
restaurant.
I
drove
to
a
local
truck
stop
and
due
to
the
severe
stress
I
had
experienced
and
my
tiredness
I
quickly
fell
asleep.
I
awoke
the
next
morning
with
a
headache
and
feeling
very
groggy.
I
then
returned
to
the
motel
to
check
out.
The
police
never
had
any
probable
cause
regarding
any
type
of
criminal
activity,
and
they
never
checked
my
ID.
I
consider
this
police
harassment.
Moreover,
the
motel
should
never
have
called
the
police
on
me.
There
should
be
police
body
cam
footage
of
this
incident
to
corroborate
my
report
and
to
show
a
jury.
I
also
discovered
this
hotel
illegally/fraudulently
double
billed
me.
Maybe
we
should
call
this
hotel
Worst
Western
Hotel!
