This place is Incredible! Not only are the trees beautiful but the camping and picnic areas are super nice as well. It’s quiet today because it’s snowed so we can’t drive around. They have short tails and long trails, trails for pets and trails that aren't for pets. Calaveras Big Trees State Park is definitely a place honor and protect.

UPDATED: My husband and I did some souvenirs buying at the Big Trees gift shop. Two of those item were coffee mugs, see the attached pictures, don't buy these mugs. My husband has used his about six times or so since we have been home. The paint inside the cup started chipping off and we are sure he ingested those pieces. 🤯 We had to throw his cup away. So disappointing as he really liked his coffee mug. 😪 ORIGINAL POST: My husband and I went to Big Trees on the last day of the season for 2021. We had a fabulous time enjoying all the spectacular trees. What an awe inspiring time we had. The trails are magnificently maintained. The staff and volunteer staff that we encounter were very helpful and extremely nice. If you haven't been to Big Trees yet we would highly suggest you take a trip there when they open back up for the 2022 season. Now go and continue to enjoy the great outdoors❣😉🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️🧗‍♂️🧗‍♀️🧘‍♂️🧘‍♀️

We enjoyed this amazing park med Jan 2022 and had a great time. The roads to the park were clear of all snow but when we got to the park there was a lot of snow to play in and enjoy. The park Rangers and Volunteers made the experience such a pleasure. We took the 1.6 mile trail that normally would have been super easy, but since the path was now tightly packed snow, it was a bit like ice skating the whole way, yet we still walked it in under an hour. This park has everything you need, plenty of parking, clean bathrooms with running water, water fountains, and a great gift shop and information museum. Go there now, you will really enjoy yourself; well worth the $10 entrance fee.

I visited The Calaveras Big Trees National Park for the first time this week. If you ever get the opportunity to go…do it! There’s a lovely lower trail or a couple long, more difficult trails. All bring you up close and personal to the most enormous trees on the planet! There’s a guide that tells about most of these ancient trees. Brings a new perspective on life. A must see.

What an awesome park to visit. I first went 28 years ago and went again and was still in awe on how beautiful these huge trees are. Just stunning easy hike level trails for young and old. Further down is a beautiful river but to fast of water right now to even wade in.

Beautiful park. Beautiful meadow. Amazing trees. Great picnic area. Even the fire roads were pretty (dogs aren't allowed on the regular trails). North Grove Campground is right next to Highway 4. My campsite was in the middle of North Grove, so the traffic didn't bother me too much.

This is an amazing place to visit. The North trail is perfect for all ages and abilities. Follow along the trail with the guide which tells about the trees and history of the area. All of the rangers and volunteers were amazing and friendly. We will definitely be back to enjoy this park again in the future.

A must visit place if you are a big tree lover. There are trails you can enjoy waking. It's easy to spend about an hour or 2 hiking and exploring the nature here. The trails are maintained very well and it's an easy one for kids. The trees are amazing here. Parking could be challenging since it's very limited. You will get a spot but might be a bit of a wait until someone leaves. It's a 10$ for parking and cards are accepted. Restroom needs a better maintenance

I love going here! If you get here early morning right at opening there is no one around. There’s lots of trails to choose from. The first couple trails right at the gate are super touristy but that’s also where the rangers are. They do guided bird watching on the first trail. And a few other activities. It does get a little busy during the day but the further in you go the less people there are. Lots of nice trails some are easy others are harder. Not all of them are maintained so watch your step. There are bathrooms at most trailheads. I’ve seen lots of deer, birds, squirrels and chipmunks. I’ve only been here for the day so I’m not sure how the camping is. It’s $10 for day use. There is a tiny cute museum inside the gift shop that has very friendly informative guides.

This place is Incredible! Not only are the trees beautiful and humbling but the camping and picnic areas are super nice as well. Our stay was truly heaven on earth, it was mid December and we were the only campers on site. We spent two amazing days here I definitely recommend it although I would want to stay a couple more days to experience more of their trials. They have short tails and long trails, trails for pets and trails that aren't for pets, the bathrooms I went to were stocked with toilet paper and were clean! Calaveras Big Trees State Park is definitely a place to honor and protect. Thanks for having us. Here are some videos and photos of my visit. I can go on and on about this place, Love It!

Amazing! If you were nearby, please do yourself a favor and visit this park! The sequoia's are incredible. This is a jewel. Anything I can say would be an understatement. They also have a campground as part of the park. Their gift store we found to be enjoyable full of many wonderful gifts for young and old. Please come by and visit and be amazed!

Always a good visit. The staff and rangers are always very welcoming and take their time to answer questions. There is a shorter trail "North Grove" and a longer trail "South Grove" depending how how much time you have. Either way you have a great experience. They even have a trail called "Three Senses" trail for those that want a more sensory guided experience. Love how they make this experience very inclusive for everyone.

An amazing place like you're walking back in time and you really feel how small you are in nature next to the giant sequoias. The north and south grove hikes are a must for first time visitors. Park staff are super knowledgeable and friendly. Campgrounds are well kept and plenty of well maintained facilities although some campsites are on a slope while many others don't have a separate grill. Not too much to complain.

This park was one of my favorite places to visit!!! The welcome building has a video to watch and animals on display. The paths are great, the trees are varied, and they have giant sequoias! I'm glad we visited here before Yellowstone. It wasn't crowded; the signs were easy to read.

I lived in Arnold for a long time and never even stopped in here. Me and my buddy just went to camp and had a blast.. probably one of the neatest places I’ve been all year. The trail with the sequoia trees and information was amazing. Place was packed but it’s big and felt really like a community. Bathrooms are wayyyyy nicer than I’m used to and they have really nice showers (50¢ every two minutes) Up the road is a nice bar and restaurant called the line room, down the hill is a grocery store.. both are about a five minute drive. This is an ideal spot for a family or just a couple. Was very fun and nice.

Calaveras State Park was one of my favorite stops on our recent road trip. I had no idea that there were giant Sequoia trees in that part of California. The easy trail was magical with a magnificent canopy of towering trees. The rich fall colors just added to the beauty.

The most majestic experience! I've wanted to see giant sequoias since I was a kid and this was the perfect place. Options were limited since we visited in February and didn't have any gear (like snow shoes) that would've been necessary at the groves near Yosemite, but Calaveras Big Trees delivered. They got a foot and a half of snow overnight and the trail was still manageable with snow boots.

Loved this place. Nice 1.5mile trail and easy for the kids. Great experience and the weather was awesome. Definitely one of the places to go to when you are near here. These trees are huge and pictures don’t really show that.

We really enjoyed our experience at this park! The trails are well maintained, and the views are great. There seems to be a variety of trails for different skillsets. The restrooms were incredibly clean, and the visitor center was so cute! There is a gift store and also a little museum. This was a great addition to our trip!

We had a great time camping at the North Ridge campground. We had for 36. It was a great location. We just had to carry our gear up hill a bit but the sure was worth it. It's pretty close to the entrance of the park's main trail. The park itself has some one beautiful Giant Sequoia trees and other amazing trees. It's a very nice place to visit.

There are many tourists here. The hiking trail is less than 2 miles, and there are more than 20 marked giant redwoods. Although some have fallen down, the Mother and Father of the Forest are telling the history of this forest, they bring people the cognition, thinking and fun of exploration. We don’t like the noisy North Grove campground nearby the CA route 4 (loud noise from vehicle).

We drove through this park without realizing how amazing the big trees here. Met a biker that bikes 2.5 months a year and camp everywhere, he highly recommended and we decided to turn back to check it out. It adds 50 mins more to our drive but we really glad we did it. The park’s tree are so diverse, not only you get to see giant sequoia, there are sugar pine which has longest cone, incense cider, ponderosa pine… some area you really feel like walking in to virgin forest. The smell of all these big trees is also something so soothing. So many history and stories in this park that you get to discover while walking on the trails.

I spent a significant amount of time at Calaveras Big Trees State Park this summer (2022). It quickly and easily became one of my favorite parks of all time. The park's location in the Sierra Nevada Mountains happens to be in one of the few places where Giant Sequoia Trees thrive. These trees grow to massive sizes and hiking through the park's North Grove Trail gives you awe inspiring views that can make you feel quite small. The staff were all extremely friendly and provided amazing programs including guided hikes, Junior Ranger and Cubs, meadow walks, and campfire programs in the evenings. They were always happy to answer questions and often helped me identify plants or insects I wasn't familiar with. Things to keep in mind: - Dogs are NOT allowed on the park's main trails. - The tree that you can walk through (the Pioneer Cabin Tree) fell down in 2017. - There are bears in the park so keep food in your locked car or in bear lockers if you're camping. - You have to hike to see the Giant Sequoias. You won't see many just driving through the park. - The river is fast and rocky so swimming is not safe. - Do NOT touch the Giant Sequoias. Their bark is soft and flakes off when touched. - Do NOT walk directly next to the Giant Sequoias. There are social trails around the trees but these are not real trails. This is very bad for the trees.

As a visitor to the US one of my bucket list things to see was the giant Sequoia trees in California. I was fortunate enough to visit the South Grove in Fall - truly spectacular! We did the 5.6 mile loop and spent several hours hiking and enjoying the majesty of the Redwoods and the beautiful orange, yellow, red foliage of the Dogwood trees. We saw many different types of fungi along the trail as well. Don't be put off by the distance around the loop - it really is worth doing the walk.

Such a beautiful hike. Super flat and short hike that would be easy enough for beginners. It was very slick due to melting snow so highly recommend stopping in the gift shop to but the walking sticks with spikes! We did NOT regret the investment. Such a majestic area.

The sequoia trees in this park were amazing. They are beautiful trees. The whole park was very well kept with marked trails and lots of camping and hiking space.

Some great trails through the northern Sequoia groves. Trail guides with difficulty ratings, distances, and maps are available at the trailheads. Dress appropriately, bring water/food, and enjoy the picturesque settings.

Tucked away off highway 4 . Complete with a mini visitor center, rental cabin's, trails all over. Strict with dogs and where they are aloud but the kiosk lady was warm to my pup. Sequoias , pines, tree structures and more. Unfortunately the north trail was closed so had to take the south trail which is 8miles more. But quite serene . Sasquatch country!

This has been on my bucket list forever and it definitely didn’t disappoint! We doesn’t about 2 hours walking around and enjoying the beauty that are the sequoias. Honestly photos don’t come close to doing these majestic trees justice. Take your time and enjoy all that nature has given us.

I always love visiting the sequoias. We went on a Thursday and the park was not at all crowded. Some of the trails are in need of attention, and there appears to be clean up ongoing from the fires a few years ago, but none of that detracted from the experience. The restrooms were clean and well maintained. We very much love being among the big trees and this park has lots to explore.

We went to Big Trees in July of 2020 . You have to. Pay to enter . There are restrooms available. If you are approaching the restrooms from the parking lot and the first two are in use go around to the other side there are two more. The restrooms are all gender and accessible. We went in March and there was a lot of snow on the ground but the North Grove trail was open. While we had jackets, waterproof shoes, hiking sticks, we were not equipped for snow. When I took a step and ended up in a hole up to my knees. I concluded that we were not adequately dressed, snow suit with snow shoes . Also some parts of the trail were submerged due to the melting snow. I had not seen that much snow since I went to Tahoe several years ago . The park was beautiful. Gift shop has great souvenirs ( co-workers, friends). There was an exhibit in another room showing the wildlife in the area and a theatre. We will return but probably not when there is still snow on the ground.

This park is an amazing place. So cool to still be able to see these wonders of the world. These trees are absolutely massive the largest living thing on this Earth! The park's trails are very well kept and easy to traverse. This is a must stop if you are in the area.
