Went there on a sunny and warm day in the middle of September. I have been living in Michigan for over 10 years now and surprisingly a first time visitor of dunes.. Recreation passport is required for entry. Park has clean restrooms and food truck between Memorial day and Labor day. Other than that bring your own food and water. It's about 3 hr drive from Detroit area. When we arrived we were told by a local couple that hike through dunes to Silver lake is around 1 hour and to lake Michigan 2.5-3 hours. We didn't have food or water or time to hike to Michigan lake so we did a short one. Make sure to take everything you need on the beach with you when you live car. We didn't rent a buggy to ride the dunes but next time we will. Will probably research a deal for rent before we go as there are multiple companies to rent from in the area, and only one right in the park. Overall great place to visit, just be prepared for a challenging hike up and down the dunes:)

This lighthouse is always a road trip destination. We usually visit in off season, we take our dogs and they literally look forward to walking in the sand and getting into Lake Michigan. It’s always interesting and we truly enjoy every visit.

You can't beat Silver Lake!! Climbing the huge dune at the visitor entrance is rough, but once you're up, it's gorgeous! The kids have a blast watching all the trucks & buggies running around on the dunes! The scenic views from a few of the higher dunes are just awesome. This place is an oasis, with something to do for everyone! The beach area is really nice as well. It's crazy how far out you can go, while still being only waist deep. The water here is really clean & only a few minutes from Lake Michigan, so you can hit both lakes if you want.

This is my favorite place to visit in Michigan. The sand dunes are massive, and you can walk around for hours up and down the sand dunes like here in the desert. from the ancient tree stumps that have been sandblasted for over 100 years, to the peaceful Lake, Michigan shoreline, and the amazing sunset, if you've never seen it before I highly recommend it. It's very very peaceful and serene, and it's a place to reflect and recharge. I can't say enough about this wonderful place.

We were in campsite 70 which was nice however it took quite a bit of maneuvering to get our 30 foot camper into with all the other campers there and because of the trees. It was a very busy weekend with at least three vehicles to every site it seemed. Cars lined the drive all the way around the campground. The bathrooms were kept up with mostly, dnr personal were routinely walking around the camping loops and the camp host was very polite, introduced himself then invited my children to participate in the weekend crafts the following morning. I appreciated the sidewalk that went around the roundabout (to enter our camping area) so you could get to the playground and beach area. My kids truly loved the playground which was more of a climbing rope structure with a slide, could be difficult for some. All in all we really liked it here and would stay again as it was a 20 minutes drive to Michigan Adventures.

Great place to ride. Great views. Depending on the wind the dunes change, which was daily the week I was there. I didn't check it out online before I came, I kinda thought the area would have been bigger, but it was still worth the 16 hour drive. If you're not from here/there, and plan on going, check the weather and the wind speed. It felt comfortable leaving the parking lot to hit the dunes, but when you get out in the open and the strong winds come off the water it can get a bit cold. Overall, definitely recommended ride spot.

First time back since I was a small child. Scenery is fantastic. Four wheeling challenge is just above driving a muddy trail. What I absolutely hated was the chaotic nature of people literally driving anywhere they wanted. Eyes on swivels at all times. I nearly ran over more than a few dirty bikers riding next to my door, then cutting in front of me, or just popping up out of nowhere. Other than that, it's a great way to spend a day.

Best Dunes in MI I've been to. The views were amazing and I couldn't recommend this more. There is access to the dunes at 2-3 spots for hikers and be warned, one of them is extremely steep.

Walking around the dunes was fun but tiring, they're often steep! The beach arpund Silver Lake was mostly clean, although we did pick up some garbage others had left

Great place to go. Short 2 day stays to month long stays. Plenty to see and do.

Nice campground, with the sand dunes across from the lake. If you have a big rig there are not many sites you can fit in. There is only electric and water, but the dump station is available. Most sites are dirt and grass, however, if you are mobility impaired they have sites that are paved. Fun things to do here and nice lighthouse to see.

A great beach to hang out! Nicely covered picnic tables, a snack stand, restrooms. A beach mat safe for wheelchair use gets close to the water. Solar-powered accessible picnic tables with USB outlets.

Two words "Love it" great place to ride the Dunes in our Jeep, side by side or kids dirt bikes. Watching all the different types of orv's ride and race is fun. Sunset time is my favorite time to be on the Dunes.
