I wanted to like this place but unfortunately it was not possible. The animals just look lonely and sad. Some mammals were in cages by themselves as were some birds. The cages were dirty and didn't have enough flora and fauna to keep the animals occupied. Both my wife and I felt sad as we hiked up the steep, paved trail looking either at nothing or at lonely, bored, sad, animals. I wish they would charge more for entry or at at least find a way to improve the conditions which the animals live in.... I didn't take any pictures because; A - it was difficult through the multiple layers of rusty fencing B - it didn't feel right C - it made me sad.

Great zoo with alot of different animals to see and learn about. It's free on Tuesdays and half price before 10am. If you're not from Mexico like myself, just ask for tickets in Spanish and tell them you're exchange students. Worked for us and got in for $20 Pesos instead of $60! Worth a visit if you're in town.

(Translated by Google) A beautiful zoo. Very attentive and complete with typical animals of the region. Its schedule x covid is from Tuesday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and they enter in groups of 12 to 15 people. Very cheap $ 35 per person or if the group is not completed, the group of $ 420 is paid. The animals very well cared for and the place clean (Original) Un zoologico precioso.

(Translated by Google) A great zoo for the price it charges. They have endemic animals of the region, and it is large enough to have a good time entertaining. What I liked the most is that it seems you are going in the jungle. (Original) Un gran zoológico para el precio que cobra. Tienen animales endémicos de la región, y es lo suficientemente grande como para pasar un buen rato entretenido. Lo que más me gustó es que parece que vas en la selva.

Decent zoo place with shade and some coolness (in comparison to Tuxtla! ;-), mostly local species (very few crocodiles though 🤔) - for me the best were the colorful birds. Also please beware that no drinks or any other refreshments are being sold there right now (= pandemic) + the place is really closing at 1pm.

I had a spectacular experience. This zoo focuses on local and indigenous species including the endanger jaguar and tapir. Black capybaras wander about freely. There are inspirational stones along the walking paths with thought provoking sayings. It was a very hot day, but with the extensive tree canopy it felt pleasant. Be prepared for walking. Regardless of which was you go, it is one big loop with up hill sections.

Amazingly huge. It's a beautiful place to visit if you are in for a walk! I would say it's more like a huge public park then a zoo. To be honest not to much to see. This zoo does not offer to much to see or do. It has more exsotic birds then anything else!! Obviously yeah it has other animals. But no giraffes elephants, or dolphins. Am giving it a 4 star because the zoo has concerve a lot of nature. Plus it's a very clean place!! My kids love nature, but sadly no petting zoo for the small ones! Price as of 7/25/19 adults 25 and kids are 15 pesos.

Inexpensive to visit, I even have lots of free range animals like monkeys, deer, and small rodents Ijust walking around the place. There is definitely a lack of larger mammals, but that is understandable given their cost of upkeep and maintenance. Definitely a good thing to do if you are in the city. The sound of the howler monkeys crying above you as you walk around the zoo is pretty impressive!

The service is poor , the animals look very sad and sick , all people that work there always are speaking together that the salary is cheap 😭, and they world hard, but they never received any incentive or something like that, others staff member looks like depressive and angry with all, also when you arrive the girls that are asking about your tickets are very impolite and very arrogant with local people as well, terrible customer service , they are racist, hope that they improve.

This is a lovely zoo, considering how much we paid for entry. They've done an amazing job with the enclosures. Almost the entire zoo is under the tree canopy, so don't worry about your sunglasses. The only thing I felt could be improved is that they don't tell you what country/continent a critter is from, just their habitat. But it's not a huge deal. Some unique animals here. 👌

The nature and trees at this zoo is a big one. On the animal side, depending if you’re lucky you get to see them or they can be either sleeping or hiding. The prices is so affordable!

This is a really nicely curated zoo, a lot of their local animals roam free in the area. It was a great experience and a really nice walk. However the jaguar cages looked small, which made us sad.

Lots of waking. LOTS. Like 5km or so one guy joked. Spectacular displays, even though I don't like the idea of animals cooped up. One of the best zoos I've ever visited.

A must go! This zoo is special because while it does have animals behind fences and in large terrariums, it also has a large amount of animals out and about living their best lives without being encaged. The howling monkeys, the giant enclosure of guacamayas, it is really special. At the end of the trail, there is an outdoor cafeteria providing you with all the local botanas, fruit and veggies. A real treat after the journey through this magical zoo. I love taking my kids here to explore, there is always something new that we discover!

  • 4/5 Marta B. 5 years ago on Google
Really great! Felt almost more like a park or a safari than a zoo sometimes for the monkeys and other wild animals in it. Gorgeous jungle to walk through that even without animals. Informative info panels everywhere and a small museum in the centre. Several of the enclosures and sections were closed - although I did go on a Wednesday so maybe that's part of the reason along with some construction I saw. A map of the area would also have been nice to guage time. As for animal conditions, some enclosures were very large and seemed appropriate to animal needs. Others made me a bit sad. But definitely far from the worst of zoos I've seen and worth a visit. Criminally underrated as a stop off - if you're going to do one thing in Tuxtla have it be this!

Huge park with quite a few spices running freely. We spotted an endangered wild lizard that made it's home here out of it's own will. The howler monkeys were the highlight!

You need to be in a group of 12 to enter, it didn’t take long for enough people to arrive which was lucky, you have to go on as part of a tour (all in Spanish). Lots of cool animals (about 70% are birds) all from Chiapas and it has a somewhat natural feel so some of them just roam the property! Definitely worth it for 35 pesos

I liked this zoo a lot, but there are a few things to note about this place. The only option for entrance is a tour that has 12 participants. When we got there, there were some other people waiting, when there were 11 people they let us start and just collectively payed for the 12th person (we payed 35 pesos each for admission). The tour was great I'm sure if you speak fluent Spanish, but otherwise I didn't understand much. There aren't that many different animals to see, but a cool part of the zoo is that it's animals all native to the state of chiapas and they were pretty awesome. There were even some animals not in enclosures! It was a decent amount of walking, some uphill and the guided tour took around 2.5 hours

If you ever come to this city, pay a visit to this zoo. The work they do with animals is crucial and the care they take of them is amazing. The ZooMAT is a must go, just pay attention to their service hours.

We loved being in the jungle at Zoomat, & how all the animals are from around Mexico & have lots of space, like they’re in their own natural environment. Our kids enjoyed seeing deer running free & some birds wandering around as well. Walking around to see all the animals took about 2 hours, which was a great way to spend the afternoon. Highly recommend :)

Even before you get into the actual Zoo, you're getting into El Zapotal, biosphere reserve park, the temperature changes and the sounds from the flora and fauna are easier to hear. I'd say just stepping into El Zapotal, the atmosphere gets very relaxing. Once you get into the Zoo, you start exercising your body just by walking through the

Many people told me that the animals are in nearly free in the big park. Animals were locked in small cages in a big park. Might be that something got lost im translation. The place it self was beautiful.

Not much of a Zoo… more like a beautiful nature park with a lot of birds and maybe some monkeys… lots of walking. At 35 pesos you can’t beat it but don’t expect an exciting Zoo. To me the highlight of the place is the Caimans and Crocs as well as the spiders that are literally everywhere! That was really cool!
