The food is so good here. Had vegetarian Indonesian dishes both nights, absolutely delicious! The surroundings were also lovely and a reasonable price. The reason it's not 5 star is because the staff were not friendly to me at all, in fact they were quite cold, almost annoyed that I was there (I was alone, is this an issue, I don't know?)

I have been dining at Cafe Wayan since my first visit to Bali in the 1990s. On my recent visits the food was very good (as usual) and the surroundings are beautiful and peaceful. However the experience was spoiled by poor service from a rude, sullen waitress on both visits. This is the first time in my many, many visits that I have had bad service. As a result I ate elsewhere on the last few days.

Such an amazing restaurant! I have come here multiple times while in Ubud and have always been so impressed. The food is delicious, the venue is beautiful (even the toilets!), and the staff are so so kind and always check up on how you are doing and how the food is. If you are after an authentic meal with wonderful service, I can’t recommend this place enough!

The cooking class here is excellently organized. There is the choice between different lessons, the first one to book the class chooses the lesson. Each lesson is a rich learning experience. They are very nice people and very helpful. Great surroundings too: the backyard has amazing views and is very beautiful. Afterwards you get to enjoy what you made in a very cosy setting. Highly recommend!

Very stylish and idyllic cafe/ restaurant. I only had an Indonesian soup which was great and a milkshake. Price is a bit above average I’d say but the atmosphere and taste make up for it. Would definitely recommend!

Very delicious Indonesian cuisines! Tomato soup and pumpkin soup were both excellent! The waiters and waitress were all friendly and always willing to help. The environment was also special and full of beautiful details. Highly recommended! Card accepted

It is hands down one of the best restaurant in Ubud to have the best local balinese cuisine…. Great taste . Great service and the whole vibe and atmosphere of the place was super relaxing. You can sit in front in the normal chair and table way or you can opt to sit in the local way with legs crossed and more relaxed. They also provide cooking lessons

I took a Balinese cooking class here and was very impressed. The garden in the back is growing dozens of uniquely Balinese ingredients that we used to prepare and cook a four course meal. All the ingredients were introduced individually with opportunity to taste them all, one by one. Instructions and demonstrations were very clear and staff were very friendly with lots of jokes all around. Would very highly recommend. I had tons of fun.

My partner and I did a 2hr cooking class here and absolutely loved it. It included us eating our dishes at the end. Wayan and Yanick were friendly and informative chefs to guide us. Do a class, you won't regret it!

Four of us attended a cooking class with Cafe Wayan. The venue was absolutely beautiful! We enquired the day before and wanted to make a couple changes to the menu, they were very accommodating which we really appreciated. The class itself was well organised, however I was hoping we made individual dishes - it was very lead by the chef and we did some chopping here and there for a shared dish.

This place is still as good as ever! After 2 years away from Bali, I came straight from the airport to Cafe Wayan for my first meal and it was a great choice. The food, the atmosphere, and the staff make this place one of the best places to eat in all of Bali

High quality Balinese food at reasonable prices. The nasi campur was the best I had in Bali, which is no small feat. I also highly recommend the cooking class with chef Wayan. You learn a lot about Balinese ingredients and cooking, and to top it off you get treated to an absolute feast.

Fantastic food, lovely setting. Don’t miss this one! Our server was lovely, the quasi-security bill checker not so much, but a great value and peaceful dining experience. Highly recommend the Indonesia sampling plate.

We couldn’t get enough of this restaurant! Best food we had in Indonesia! Staff is friendly and heartwarming! Location is right at the monkey forest road but if you walk in you are in a green oasis with the cutest seats in the back. The food was delicious and we did the cooking class which was definitely the greatest experience. The people were so lovely and patient. We had a lot of fun and can’t wait to be back here!!!

We were happy to see dadar gulong on the dessert menu! A delicious gluten free Indonesian sweet. They also had a range of other gluten free cakes, it was great, thank you. Ambience is very nice out the back of this restaurant (street view is deceiving).

Was recommended to try here from our driver. He didn’t disappoint. We were taken through to a private table in the gardens and everything from the toilets (seriously - they have a bowl with water and flowers in each cubicle!) to the seating is photo worthy! The food is stunning as well. The highlight being the dessert crepes ... pure heaven

55 K package incl. main dish, dessert & juice is excellent value. Ambience is traditional Balinese. Peaceful and soothing place. Food is excellent. Next door is a batik, textile and sarong shop with the highest craftsmanship - and you can haggle with them and get a good discount due to this Covid period.

Review for Dinner and Cooking Class the next day. Great food great experience…… We stopped in for dinner last night, but we had visited earlier in the day to book in a Vegetarian Cooking Class, they have a list of different options to choose. Dinner was awesome so we knew we’d be in for a treat the next day for our cooking class. We both ordered a Vegetarian Nasi Campur with a side of Sambal Matah. It was a really nice dish, great flavours and a good selection as well… a little larger in size with more options than we’ve previously had at other local restaurants. It included tofu, spiced tempeh, urap, rice, Sambal, turmeric coconut spice mix, vege curry and a spiced nut mix.. delicious flavours! Service was great in the restaurant as well. The next morning we had the cooking class which started at 10am. Prep, Cooking and Tasting until 12.00pm the eating everything you cooked after that.. so sooo good.. but so soooo belly full of delicious food. Cooking class included a walk around the garden introducing us to all the fresh herbs and spices growing around the cooking area. There was a large selection of fresh ingredients ready for us to cook with as well. Class was very informative and hands on, we prepped, chopped, ground and then cooked a selection of vegetarian dishes, from mains to sides and then a dessert. Everything on the Vegetarian Cooking Class (Lesson 5) was absolutely delicious 🙏 we also had tasting along the way as we completed each dish. It’s also a really nice environment to cook in, great setup… it was only the two of us so it was like our own little private class which was super nice. Overall a really awesome experience at Cafe Wayan, both Dinner and Cooking Class were really great. Terima Kasih 🙏 Sampai Jumpa Lagi 👋

Great little gem of a place. The place is lot bigger than what it looks from outside. Would recommend going all the way in to enjoy what we thought was the better seats. Food was great and large portions. Our server recommended the more expensive items on the menu but we went with the cheaper Indonesia fare. Cant imagine what the portions on those would have been. Get that avocado shake. Its good. Would definitely come back again.

A great place to get a taste of local Indonesian flavors. A group of 3 girls and we shared the 1st item on the special order page, and it was more than enough. We went for a later lunch and they had the dish available. Its a great place for large groups too because they have larger tables in the back under small bungalows, and the backdrop is a beautiful garden.

I ate at this place the 4 days I was in Ubud. The garden is beautiful and I took a walk towards the back where they have cooking class was so beautiful. The Balinese food I ordered was great. The staffs are friendly. Definitely will eat there again if I am back in Bali.

We came here for our cooking class and thank god we did. It’s the best food I have ever eaten we came back 3 times just for the food and the drinks. Specifically the lemon grass tea. We made sure to stop at this cafe before leaving just to eat here again. Beautiful location as well. All the food is grown in a garden behind the restaurant, and cooked fresh. The prices are so good, very cheap considering the quality. The staff is so friendly and timely. seriously cannot say enough good things about This place. Please make sure stop here while in Bali. Worth it.

Without a doubt the best cafe/ restaurant in Ubud… has been around for many years and service and staff are without equal… sit down area near the front but many many outside areas with an areas that stretches way back Great to have a meal in the garden at night watching amongst the fish ponds… and watching the geckos on the straw ceilings Great space to take kids Have been coming here for 20 years… and have never been disappointed

We ate here last night after a terrible experience at another restaurant. The welcoming and friendliness of the staff was amazing and my dinner was delicious. I had the steak special and the meat was cooked perfectly. Along with were mushroom caps, mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. I could not have had a better meal.

  • 3/5 Axel O. 9 months ago on Google
No, perhaps they take their good reviews for granted. The welcome to the restaurant was so-so. The atmosphere at the restaurant seems nice, however, only if you get a table deep inside the restaurant. We got a place close to the entrance. Busy, and noicy, but the tables are nice looking and clean. Food. Simply put, I have had better indonesian food and flawors at most other places. I had satay and my girlfriend a vegertarian nasi goreng. Note, this could be a personal preference. We also took a ”health juice”, but it barely had any liquid. Just foam. I think perhaps we were unlucky. Giving it a three stars is pushing it, but two is still to low.

We had lunch here during our stay in Ubud and it was very good! An oasis in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Ubud. Although it's on the street, you don't notice the hustle and bustle in the restaurant. Pure idyll with beautiful flat tables in booths where you can enjoy the food with water splashes. The food was excellent and the service was very friendly. The cakes are also highly recommended. We would come back anytime! A must go in Ubud!

When we were in Ubud for a few days, we were lucky enough to find Café Wayan by chance right on the first day and were there every day from then on. We have rarely eaten so well and in such a beautiful atmosphere. The whole restaurant is insanely detailed and lovingly designed, a little oasis of calm in the hustle and bustle of Ubud. The food is a dream, especially the pumpkin curry is absolutely recommended. The staff are incredibly accommodating and heartwarmingly friendly. We traveled on to Seminyak and of course visited the famous Made's Warung here, unfortunately a disappointment in direct comparison with Café Wayan and we wish Café Wayan was closer so we could visit it one last time before traveling back to Germany. We are already looking forward to our next visit to Bali and especially to Café Wayan, love to the whole team of Café Wayan, please stay as you are, you are great ♥️

The food was absolutely delicious with such beautiful and complex flavors and the dish (nasi campur) had more components than id seen elsewhere. The setting is tranquil amidst a beautiful garden and the space is actually quite big with many seating options available. A truly authentic ans wonderful experience.

Fantastic little warung serving Indonesian food. They have good understanding of food allergies - I have coeliac disease and there were plenty of gluten free options for me! They also have a range of gluten free baked goods which were delicious! Also a beautiful spot with lots of greenery, feels peaceful

Like many Balinese restaurants, there are tables in a garden behind, the tables are each in their own corner. very warm staff. However, there is nothing extraordinary in the menu, it is dishes that can be found in all the other restaurants. On que the other hand, the daily specials allow you to diversify, it's great! The quality of the food is very good and the dishes are more filling than other restaurants.

My friend had visited Cafe Wayan previously, so we decided to give it a visit again. This was the first place I ate upon arrival to Ubud. The atmosphere was amazing, there are huge gardens, fountains and ponds mixed among the tables. We ate family style and shared a few different items. The service was great, and the food was amazing. I suggest walking around the property and checking it out. In the back, you will find aa area they conduct cooking classes, and even some gardens where it appears they may grow some oof their own vegetables, etc. I highly suggest visiting when you are in Ubud. The history of the family ad how they came to be is such a heartwarming story!

Our meal here was nice and enjoyable but nothing out of this world, the restaurant itself was lovely though. When we arrived at 8pm, all the tables were full and there was a large crowd of 15-20 people waiting to be seated at the entry desk. Some people had bookings, some were walk-ins, but staff were walking past us and looking over continuously and nobody stopped to update us, check who had reservations or organise the walk-ins. After 10 minutes of waiting I asked a server if someone could help us all and we still had to wait after then. Yes they were busy, but any staff member could have come over briefly to update us. After we sat down we had a nice meal though.

One of my to go restaurant if I travel to Bali.. Delicious Crispy duck comes in a big clay plate and Nasi Campur still as good as I remember. The cooking class was very good. There were a lot of herbs, spices, and vegetables growing there, and I liked making dishes using them. Class was easy and there was no shopping part, so I could cook a lot in a short time. The taste is also excellent. The bad thing is that there are a lot of mosquitoes in the late afternoon.

  • 5/5 Lina M. 3 years ago on Google
Definitely a must visit when you’re in Ubud area. Since pandemic, they only have 6 staff (normally was around 90). The food was awesome, considering its price. The chocolate cake with coconut ice cream is my highly recommendation. The staffs are friendly. During my visit, they only have another guest (for around 4 hours). One thing, be sure to use long pants or bring mosquito repellent, because it’s a rainy season and the mosquitos was so ready to take a bite of your skin. I want to go here again.

(Translated by Google) Absolutely the best place ever in Bali! The authentic Balinese cuisine was so great. Though it is quite expensive restaurant in this area, it deserves so. Each different kind of food was delicately touched, perfect mood and it even includes the real Balinese dessert! It is expensive compared to the price but it is a great hit because you can eat traditional Balinese food properly and colorfully. From the end of the banana leaf you made, to homemade sambal sauce and side dishes, the more you eat properly, the deeper the taste will be. The amount is also great, but they are all delicious, so I ate them during the middle break. The temperature of each menu is also really good. (Original) Absolutely the best place ever in Bali! Five stars for a great relaxing venue in the middle of a bustling city. Started by Ubu Wayan, the restaurant grew to become a peaceful water flowing paradise. The turmeric infusion is refreshing, I wanted more. The Balinese specialty was enough for two (seriously get your own plate or additional dish) the flavours were noticeable, grilled chicken, fish patty. All set with a great location. Perfect for romantic escape.... recommended

Took the cooking class at Cafe Wayan with my son this morning and it was 100% enjoyable. So happy we chose to take the time. Full step by step instructions along with a cook book, and a delicious meal that we created together. Absolutely a highlight of this trip. Can’t wait to get home and try the recipes, though I know they will not taste quite as good.

Now that the corona is bad, we recommend the great Nasi campur set. Freshly made nasi campur, fresh juice, dessert, tax included 70,000 rupiah. (Because it's generous, I'm glad the dessert cake wasn't that famous death-by-chocolate!)

This restaurant was recommended by another store owner nearby (who isn't Indonesian). I heard that this restaurant was around for many years, but food is not good. I don't recommend.

Nor the sauce / sambal nor the fish have any taste. It also would be better if they have soup in their menu to...
