The first time I came here was 28 years ago. Been back a few times over the years. It was nice to see a familiar place again on this trip. Its a lovely setting, and a respite from the traffic. However, it had changed since my last visit a few years ago. The cons: limited menu, expensive beer (101k for a large Bintang), slow service. Worth a visit just for the surrounding area.

Review of Cafe Lotus Restaurant in Ubud, Bali: Cafe Lotus Restaurant in Ubud, Bali, offers a unique dining experience as it is located inside a temple. While it has received mixed reviews, let's highlight some common facts mentioned by reviewers on Google. One notable aspect mentioned in the reviews is the restaurant's location within a temple. This setting adds a cultural and spiritual touch to the dining experience, creating an ambiance that is different from typical restaurants. The surrounding temple grounds and the presence of traditional Balinese architecture provide an interesting backdrop for patrons. However, some reviewers noted that the commercial vibes of the restaurant can detract from the temple atmosphere. This could be due to the high number of visitors and the bustling nature of the establishment. While the temple setting adds a unique charm, it appears that the commercial aspects may impact the overall ambiance for some diners. In terms of the overall experience, reviews indicate that it is average. This suggests that while Cafe Lotus offers a pleasant dining experience, it may not necessarily exceed expectations or stand out in comparison to other restaurants in the area. It's important to consider individual preferences and expectations when visiting the establishment. In conclusion, Cafe Lotus Restaurant in Ubud, Bali, offers a unique dining experience within a temple setting. While it has received mixed reviews, with some mentioning the commercial vibes that detract from the temple atmosphere, it is important to approach the restaurant with an open mind and consider personal preferences. The location and cultural significance of the restaurant provide an interesting backdrop for patrons, but the overall experience may vary based on individual expectations. It may be worth exploring other reviews and gathering more information to make an informed decision when visiting Cafe Lotus.

My last holiday in Ubud was so unforgettable. I had dinner at The Cafe Lotus. It was a fantastic restaurant in central Ubud that offers memorable dining experiences with its delicious Balinese Traditional food and cultural ambiance. The view of the lotus pond only adds to the already delightful atmosphere, and the opportunity to enjoy traditional Balinese performances during your meal only enhances the cultural immersion. The service at The Cafe Lotus was so excellent , and the restaurant's location makes it convenient to visit. I highly recommend The Cafe Lotus for anyone looking to immerse themselves in Balinese culture through food and entertainment fully.

The Place has a good ambiance, the Balinese ambiance shared in the center of Ubud. The staff has gorgeous smiles, that make my day during lunch here! the food is so tasty and has a lot of choices, and I recommend trying the RIJSTTAFEL set menu which can share with 2 people. The portion so enough for dinner. For dessert, I try Passionfruit parfait, a dessert combined with sweet and fresh sour! my favorite taste! very love it!

Didn't expect their lotus pond view is this pretty! Add in the most amazing Balinese dishes = an unforgettable lunch experience. Oh don't forget to order their passion fruit cheesecake dessert. You're welcome

It might not be the best coffee in town in terms of coffee quality but it has a beautiful view to a lotus pond. The price is a little bit higher than the average in Ubud but it's not too expensive. The staff are very polite and their hospitality is off the roof.

Food was average, at best. The noodles tasted like the instant ones I made at home. The bacon was cold and not crispy. Coffee was okay, meh. Bottom half of what I've tried on the island so far. Breakfast isn't good value for money. Stay away. But the ambience was five stars though. It's like eating in a temple (which you could, by the way, and it won't set you back that much.

The location is great and the view of the Saraswati temple is beautiful (added a photo). However it is expensive; twice as much as any other place and the quality of the food doesn't justify it. It's very touristy.

Nice place to have a meal. The staff here were polite but the service was pretty slow. The food was fine and the place looked very nice. (Visited in March 2023)

Very beautiful view from the tables. Slow service (30 minutes waiting for the food) the Lassi (dragon mix) wasn’t good enough and not big enough. The fish was good but again small portion and fish was dry. The fried noodles weren’t very tasty. Food 3 Service 4 View 5

Celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary here. The staff provide excellent service and are very thoughtful. Unfortunately the dance was cancelled due to the rain but the ambience was peaceful, overlooking a lotus pond in the middle of the restaurant. Definitely worth a try if you are in Ubud.

Came here for the views but we were very pleasantly surprised - the food was delicious!! We got the Balinese platter for two and it was probably the best food we've had since being in bali. It was very really flavoursome. The location is beautiful too and the prices were reasonable. Would definitely recommend.

The food is below average. Actually the worst experience in Bali. Even if you take a first row table (extra 100k/person) to see the dance show, it's quite far and you can't see anything. So at the end, you just have to go there and join the group of people who bought the tickets in the street and sitting on the chairs just in front of the performance. Disappointing experience. Though the show itself we liked a lot.

A stunning location for dinner with views of the show, but make sure you book! The food is a little more expensive compared to other local places, but happy to pay the extra for such a stunning environment. You even get views of the performance across the lotus pond. It seems like you go here more for the experience than the food. I wasn’t wowed, but it wasn’t bad.

Very large beautiful restaurant right on Ubud main drag, next-door to Starbucks. Has beautiful backdrop of the palace, lotus ponds and fountains. Stunning by day and night. Food great, staff wonderful ~ especially Puspa my waitress. Can't fault it, especially being an old lady nomad I was made very welcome.

Traditional Balinese cuisine, tasty food and you can even experience a Megibung. Ceremony and dance happening during dinner too. Busy spot but service is still pretty good.

Lotus cafe is one of the most enchanting places ever in Ubud. I had the pleasure to enjoy the dancing show in the Water Palace and then had one of the most delicious dinner so far, seafood salad and the famous Indonesian tea...The service Is excellent, Dek Sri is so kind and attentive, making you feel special as a customer. 🙏 for the nice evening!

In this restaurant, you can enjoy drinks or have a meal. Although the prices are a bit high, there's no need to purchase an additional ticket to see the Ubud Water Palace, providing an unobstructed view.

Nice location by Saraswati Temple lotus pond (though there was just 1 lotus flower). The Kare Ayam/yellow curry chicken was just okay. The pizza tasted like pizza made by someone who only knew it was round with red stuff on it - fairly certain it was a frozen pizza.

The food was excellent. The atmosphere was serene and beautiful. We did wait a little while for the food to come but it was definitely worth the wait. The staff was friendly.

  • 5/5 Emma 9 months ago on Google
The setting is really pleasant, we eat near the water, and in the evening there is a dance show at the end of the courtyard. The Kare Ayam was very good, the tables where you sit on the floor is a very good experience. (small problem that you have to pay the same price to attend the show as those who are seated right in front because you can't see very well)

  • 4/5 Ieva P. 5 months ago on Google
A good place if you want to see the show, you have to buy a ticket before entering. The service was a little slow. The food quite average, had the duck. Worth to go if you want to grab a drink and enjoy the view.

The atmosphere is amazing I like the panoramic view of the water temple .. the water is good but not the best, i mean, you can easily find a very similar food in any balinese restaurant with the half price .. yes..it is very expensive ! The staff is nice, but for me, it was hard to find them, i waited for 10 min to find someone to ask for the bill..and the waitress saw us talking about something important and yet she interrupted us with an angry behavior just to tell us that some dishes are not avaliable! even though she saw It is good you know, but mostly i'm not going back again

We chose the restaurant randomly from Google maps for a meal at 7pm, and were genuinely amazed by our waterside table, and the remarkable atmosphere of the lit temple in the background. The lotus pond and water features are just beautiful. Food was great; not Bali-cheap but a good price and the service was excellent.

Great coffee, nice dessert, amazing view of lotus pond with temple background. Love it

  • 1/5 Oskari H. 9 months ago on Google
The restaurant is overpriced compared to the fact that their food is only average at best. We had to pay extra 100k per person because there was a dance performance in the temple nearby which we did not see very well as you can probably notice from the picture. We ordered 2 tomyam soups, a spring roll, one sparkling water and a tea and in the end they charged us 500k. The staff did not deliver the drinks I ordered, I had to ask for it again after waiting for half an hour. Nothing was offered as a refund for the extra wait. I would not mind the price if the food was good but the food was lacking taste and flavor, service was bad and I couldnt see the show very well. Only plus is the nice location, but in my honest opinion it's a total ripoff and would not recommend this to anyone.

  • 1/5 Andreas R. 1 year ago on Google
The location is lovely. By a Lotus Pond and you can see Balinese dancing in a traditional environment. The food though was distinctly average and worse than that we both felt very sick the next day. I was sick for 2 days and couldn’t eat anything for 30 hours and my wife is still sick 3 days later hence the one star rating.

  • 4/5 Chris B. 1 year ago on Google
Overall it's a lovely place to dine. The lotus flowers at the moment are stunning, well worth the visit just to see them. The menu choice is great but I think I was a little unlucky on the day. Staff are attentive. It's a must if your in Ubud 🦎🙂

We had booked for a nice evening, and it was :) Atmosphere was so nice, sitting in the front and watching the show Service was excellent, Gusti was quite friendly, informative, and hospitable I had the ravioli and it was soo good! My hubby had the grilled prawn, a bit tasteless tbh And we had the coconut pancakes for desert, quite original and you don't find it in so many places in Bali now So overall experience was so good It's a fine dining place so prices are a bit high Btw, show cost 100k per person

Beautiful restaurant in front of Saraswati Temple in central Ubud. You can sit at the restaurant and enjoy the beautiful views of the lotus pond and the temple. Food is a mix of European and Indonesian/Balinese dishes. Prices are middle to a little high, but still offer excellent value for money as the portion sizes are quite big. Had the breakfast special which gives you 4 items for IDR 130k which is great value for money. They also have Balinese musical performances in the evenings. Service as always in Bali, is wonderful. Highly recommended to visit. Location: 10/10 Ambience: 10/10 Variety of Food: 8/10 Taste test: 8/10 Service:9/10 Value for Money: 8/10 Overall: 9/10

Lovely view at the back of the lotus flower pond. Unfortunately the food we ordered had uncooked rice.. which was a bit of a disappointment, and they wouldn’t refund the cost of the dish. The portion sizes were also small compared to other places in Ubud. They did however offer a complimentary desert which was nice. Overall, nice spot for a drink / view, but there are better places to eat in the area.

It's always a joy to visit Café Lotus in Ubud. The staff are friendly, and the food & drinks are great. But above all, the atmosphere is truly magical: Although located on a main road, you can completely escape the busy streets of Ubud. Out by the lotus pond you can't even hear the traffic, and it's a casual, relaxing place for breakfast, afternoon drinks, or casual dinner. There is also a beautiful path through the lotus pond leading up to a picture-perfect Balinese temple entrance.

Beautiful view and yummy food. The reason I give only 3 stars is because on the menu it does not tell you that the fried rice has meat. I am vegetarian and ordered it thinking it would be okay but I had to pick bits of chicken out of it.

didn’t eat just had some drinks but it’s a cool spot. good location at the water palace, old open air rustic interior on the street with a funky classic bar area. staff very kind and has clean bathrooms. budi a waiter/head floor guy was really cool (been there 20 years) and hooked me up w some locally made incense. great place to take a break; highly recommended.

  • 5/5 Viktoria M. 1 year ago on Google
The place where you may have the tastiest dishes with an excellent temple view. The menu is very varied and includes Indonesian and European cuisines. The portions are very big btw. You should try two people seafood set. Very tasty and healthy. Biggest recommendation.

  • 4/5 Simin T. 1 year ago on Google
The restaurant is situated just beside Ubud Palace. With their open air seating, you are able to enjoy your meal beside the lotus lake, looking over the Ubud Palace. At night, you can also catch the traditional Balinese dance performance when dining. The only cons is the higher than usual food price, food is good nevertheless.

An amazing place , in the middle of the busy shopping area. Service is friendly, my lunch was amazing ( fish in balanese style) The atmosphere is great, the view so relaxed. Total cost AU $9.45, highly recommended

I passed by Lotus Cafe on the way back from Campuhan Ridge and made a mental note to go back. I went for lunch and had Nasi Goreng which was delicious! The cafe looks out over beautiful gardens right in front of the Saraswati Temple. Friendly staff too!

  • 5/5 Marika O. 1 year ago on Google
The restaurant is beautiful, overlooking the lotus garden and Saraswati temple. We enjoyed our delicious dinner and drinks sitting on the floor at the terrase, from where we could also enjoy the show at the temple. Its much better and cosier than sitting in the front row (for a surcharge of course).

I gave star for the location only. Food and service was so terrible. I ordered pork sweet sauce, the pork was dry, chewy and hard. My friend ordered fish was not good too.

Great place for family and couples. Many different tables to from including traditional pillow sitting. Service is fast. Even on a busier night as we chose. Only thing is my tuna fillet was a bit on the rare side for me but that is only my opinion . Food was overall delicious . Our server Gusti was helpful and was almost always around when we needed him. The stories he can tell you if you let him speak really make the atmosphere feel even more warm and gathering. I recommend.
