We
enjoyed
a
really
memorable
trip
booked
through
RoadTrip
Uganda,
and
thought
we
got
a
very
good
deal
on
solid
lodging.
The
people
were
so
friendly,
the
places
we
stayed
were
of
amazing
value,
and
the
food
was
excellent.
It
is
a
beautiful
country
well
worth
the
trip,
despite
the
primitive
nature
of
tourist
infrastructure
(yes,
even
for
Africa).
The
ease
of
booking
everything
through
RoadTrip
made
for
a
very
smooth
trip.
The
booking
process
was
easy
and
everything
was
well
arranged
with
all
of
the
hotels.
During
and
after
the
booking
process,
emails
were
answered
promptly.
The
employees
we
spoke
with
were
all
super
friendly.
[Note:
I
wrote
this
review
during
our
trip
in
2016
but
recently
realized
I
never
posted
it.
I've
been
informed
that
RoadTrip
has
since
upgraded
their
vehicles
so
some
of
what's
below
may
not
be
applicable
anymore.]
However,
the
vehicle
we
rented
was
in
poor
repair
and
did
not
meet
our
expectations
for
performance
or
safety.
It
was
an
older
turbo
diesel
Land
Cruiser
with
200k
km
on
it.
We
appreciated
the
high
clearance,
especially
in
the
mountains,
but
its
problems
were
numerous
and
appalled
us
more
and
more
as
the
trip
went
on:
It
was
severely
underpowered
and
the
automatic
transmission
was
poor.
Many
times
it
left
us
almost
at
a
standstill
on
hills
because
it
would
not
downshift.
The
steering
and
suspension
were
loose
and
made
it
frankly
unsafe
on
curves,
during
avoidance
steering
(inevitable
around
Ugandan
drivers
and
other
road
users
like
pedestrians
and
goats),
or
"higher"
speeds
like
70
kph
plus.
As
unpleasant
as
the
mountain
roads
were
due
to
the
steel
slopes
and
rough
transmission,
the
vehicle
felt
even
more
unnerving
on
the
tarmac,
when
it
swayed
precariously
from
side
to
side.
One
sudden
swerve
and
a
rollover
would
have
been
inevitable.
There
were
no
airbags
and
the
rear
seatbelt
on
each
side
was
dangling
uselessly,
not
anchored
anymore.
Both
headlights
were
partially
blocked
by
the
brush
guard,
and
one
was
so
dim
we
weren't
sure
it
worked
at
first.
About
8
days
into
our
trip,
the
mirror
assembly
fell
out
of
one
of
the
outside
mirrors
during
routine
driving
on
a
dirt
road
and
could
not
be
put
back
in
because
a
plastic
part
had
snapped.
One
tail
light
was
broken
from
the
start.
The
spare
tire
was
held
on
by
exactly
one
lug
nut
and
the
brush
guard
was
crooked
and
wobbled
as
though
it
would
fall
off.
On
the
front
passenger
side,
water
dripped
onto
our
feet
from
above.
Only
some
of
the
speakers
worked
and
although
the
aftermarket
stereo
had
a
USB
port,
no
iPod
or
iPhone
we
tried
would
play
over
it
(aux
input
did
work
but
there
was
only
one
cigarette
lighter
and
it
was
required
by
the
GPS).
A
thumbdrive
would
play
but
randomly
would
start
over
from
the
beginning.
The
compass
was
stuck
on
SW
and
the
altimeter
never
moved
either.
The
car
came
with
a
complement
of
small
red
ants,
even
though
we
secured
food
carefully
and
didn't
seem
to
have
caused
it
(they
were
mostly
around
the
edges
of
the
doors).
Just
about
the
only
nice
thing
we
could
say
about
the
car
was
that
the
AC
and
cooler
box
in
the
center
console
worked.
The
cooler
box
did
fill
with
water
every
time
though.
It
compared
very
poorly
with
a
similar
Toyota
we
rented
for
a
similar
price
in
Namibia,
or
other
rental
vehicles
we
saw
around
Uganda.
Given
the
good
reviews
of
RoadTrip
Uganda,
we
were
surprised
and
disappointed
by
its
unsafe
condition.
The
vehicle
was
so
unpleasant
that
about
a
week
into
our
trip
we
were
looking
forward
to
leaving
it
behind
and
going
home,
despite
our
enjoyment
of
the
vacation
otherwise.
I'm
very
glad
to
hear
that
they
have
since
upgraded
their
fleet!
