Free to get in. Car park onsite and another very nearby. The only downside is because it's free to enter there was remnants of a gathering ( alcohol cans and food wrappers). It's a lovely way to pass on an hour and we would return.

Tucked away in the middle of a housing estate you could never know this one existed. Found it searching for somewhere to kill an hour before heading to Wentworth gardens. The main church for the priory is now just an outline at foundation level but more of other buildings give a sense of what was there. Interesting features of you explore outside of the buildings, water channels for ablutions and some nice stone features of you spend the time looking. Parking for about a dozen cars and free to enter but no facilities.

Monk Bretton Priory is an unlikely site, in that it’s a bit of a hidden gem. It’s tucked away in a housing estate. If you like historical sites then it’s worth a visit, with buildings, walls, and foundations in various states of repair. The main priory buildings are almost entirely ruinous but some interesting details survive. The gatehouse and admin barn/building are the two most complete structures on site. Entry is free during daylight hours, parking is provided on site, but there are no other facilities, so bring a flask and enjoy a peaceful hour or two.

Free awesome bit of history here. The place isn't that big so don't expect a big day out. Another monastery that was abolished by Henry VIII.

Lovely historical landmark in Barnsley. Hidden well within a housing estate. Easily missed if not careful. Stunning architectural ruins with historical facts along the way.

Monk Bretton priory is a hidden gem, well kept and steeped in history. Founded around 1154 It was home to the monks of the Cluniac order. After many disputes with its hierarchy it went alone? The priory was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1530s After the Dissolution the priory it had multiple owners until it was acquired by Barnsley Borough council in 1932. This site is now owned by English Heritage. Free to enter. Parking is limited, but worth finding a spot as very picturesque. Keep an eye out for special celebrations as they have stalls available on these dates. We dropped on lucky and purchased some beautiful cakes.
