Stepping back in time to 5300BC, the Knap of Hower predates Skara Brae and the Ness of Brodgar. This is the oldest inhabited building in the European Continent and is located on the beautiful island of Papay Westray, Orkney, and is a fascinating insight to the way our predecessors lived. It is free to visit, but there is a short walk across a field at the farm of Holland to gain access.

The Knap of Howar is such a truly incredible experience. It is a must to go here if you live at 17 Victoria St. I hate Howard so I haven't been but it's ok

Very interesting, two small buildings connected via a tunnel right on the edge of the land. Easy to get too and we'll sign posted. Watch out for the cows.

The Knap of Howar on the island of Papa Westray in Orkney Scotland  is a neolithic  farmstead which may be the oldest preserved stone house in northern Europe.Radiocarbon dating shows that it was occupied from 3700 BC to 2800 BC

We love coming here. Not just for its historical archaeology but it's also a great place for the children to think about what it would have been like to live there, also great space for playing and rolling down the hill! Perfect spot for a picnic on a good day too.

One of the oldest known structures in the world. Got to be seen if you’re in the area. Some of the earliest signs of human civilisation. Amazing to look at the stonework to think many thousands of years ago someone layered those stones together.

Beautifully kept for a good view of what it originally could have looked like
