Picked this superb place because of a mention in the Guide Michelin and honestly thought they deserve a Bib Gourmand. Tucked away in a cellar in the High, the classification as a wine bar doesn’t do it full justice. It’s a fantastic restaurant with tapas style food and they also have a great wine selection. The staff were extraordinarily nice and engaging and we felt most welcome. Very strong recommendation to book in advance to not miss out on this experience.

This quiet, intimate restaurant, tucked away in a cellar on the high street, is simply superb. The food and drink were excellent, and the friendly, engaging service made our visit a delight. We turned up without a booking, so space was made for us at the bar. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable about the unusual menu, which comprised mainly tapas-style plates for sharing. All of the ingredients seemed to be "normal", but the dishes themselves came across as somehow exotic, and everything was prepared to a very high standard. The drinks selection is just as thoughtful as the food menu, ranging from interesting aperitifs to unusual wines and organic lager. Our bill for two people with a range of interesting drinks was just over £100.

SERIOUS FOOD. Wow! Probably some of the best we've ever eaten. I kept swearing it was so good and we were wiping up the last drops of oils and sauce with our fingers, like kids. We went for brunch one day which blew our minds (turkish eggs and kedgeree) then headed back for lunch (rib of beef and mushroom pasta) the next day! Superb, thanks guys

All I can say is…WOW! Lilac is a hidden gem that last night served me and my friends one of the best meals I have ever, EVER had. Truly epic, totally awesome and absolutely delicious. We ordered the menu. Greedy I know, but when food tastes that good why wouldn’t you?!! Highlights included the roast pork, the courgette flower, the Hake, the burrata, the hummus, the chocolate truffles, the cheese and carrot cake and everything else!! I live in London. Currently working on an excuse to get back down to Lyme Regis as cannot wait until I can go again. Thank you Lilac for making Saturday night.

Amazing - nice local and international wines. We had the Devon 'Shoreline', it corrected drastically my opinion that Brits can't do White Wine. They can, very well in deed. Added some lovely nibbles as absolutely delicious homemade Focaccia with fennel seeds combined with olive oil and roasted garlic plus dorset coppa. Both outstanding amazing. Service was welcoming and friendly. Place is cosy and small in a very good way. We will come back and absolutely recommend Lilac.

Consistently excellent food; no weak links, and great to see rhubarb so creatively used (the sorbet was 10/10). Brilliant service and wine selection too, I just wish more places did sample measures as it meant we could try a number!

Absolutely stunning food here, a foodies paradise. This is tapas elevated to a whole new level, with every dish carefully curated and beautifully executed. Layers of texture and flavour in every dish. Knockout!

👍👍 Great little cafe just off the beach, right by all the attractions. We sat at a window looking at the fossil shops and the sea which was very wild today. Lovely food, great quality and portions were perfect. And the staff couldn't do enough for us happy to chat and tell us information. Coffee...
