Gorgeous, cool, relaxed hidden gem tucked away from sight from the street. The food is absolutely delicious Very high level presentation, excellent ingredients, impressive food all round. Staff were very friendly, attentive and relaxed. The atmosphere is great, chill music, retro styled furniture, temp and lighting all spot on. Finding it difficult to find any fault. We'll done ✔

We had a great time at Chaters. Max the owner was very friendly and knowledgable about all of the dishes and wines, and made us feel right at home. We loved the carbonara, vodka pasta, roscoff onion, the sausages, and tiramisu. A great addition to Saffron Walden

A real Saffron Walden gem! We went for dinner and enjoyed all the food & drink. We had their small plates (burrata, pecorino with honey and coffee, fresh bread with burnt butter and gordal olives), fresh pasta dishes (bucatini carbonara and bigoli alla nerano), natural wine (white and rosé), desserts (tiramisu and Happy Endings ice cream sandwich), Vault aperitivo and Wood Street coffee. It’s a fantastic setting and service was friendly and welcoming. Such a great vibe!

Came to Saffron Walden for a little day out and spotted a sign for this place just as the heavens opened. Lucky me! The space is beautiful, service is so lovely and the food was fantastic. Great wine selection too, and the deli section had so many of my fave brands. If I lived in the area I’d be every day – what a nice place to hang out!

We had a fabulous evening at Chaters on Saturday. Relaxed vibe, great service from knowledgeable staff and food was delicious. The only slight criticism, hence the four stars rather than five, was the small portions… and that’s mainly because they were so good we wanted more!

A fabulous place to enjoy delicious authentic Italian food and drinks. It is so rare to find such a high standard of food and service in a stylish, relaxed and welcoming space. Go seek out Chater’s you will not look back. Big shout out to Beth and Max for their friendly and professional welcome. You may have guessed that we absolutely love this place, whether its for a quick coffee and a bite to eat or for a celebratory evening of small tasty dishes followed by the best pasta ever and epic tiramisu. Keep it up guys you deserve all the plaudits you will undoubtedly get

We loved it! We came expecting the much heralded hand made pasta and various starters but found a changed menu for the celebration of the first birthday of Chaters. It was a BBQ based menu and delicious. Fabulous aprocot tart too. The drinks were imaginative and very yummy. We shall come again for the pasta!

Fabulous meal. Starting with the greeting from Max on arrival, to the drinks before food, onto the small plates for starters, then the pasta and finally dessert, it was all good. Great ingredients, good cooking and a warm atmosphere as the team in the restaurant are a very friendly bunch. We will definitely be back for more.

Always incredible at Chaters. The atmosphere and decor is gorgeous, by day it feels like an East London cafe full of families and dogs enjoying pastries and coffee. By night it's like a Berlin bar, romantic lighting with a paired back menu full of incredible sharing plates and the best pasta I've ever had. The drinks menu is fantastic with some of the spirits made on-site. This family run gem is a must do if in Saffron Walden!

What an absolute gem of a place. SUCH delicious food and drink, with relaxed and friendly service in a beautiful setting. The care, pride and attention to every little detail that they’ve put in shines through. Cannot recommend it enough!

Staff were extremely knowledgeable and welcoming and took the time to explain the menu and the ethos/history of the restaurant. The owner max was very attentive, even tried to help us get a taxi at the end of the evening. The atmosphere is very cool, very chilled with lovely ambient lighting and the place just had a good buzz to it. The food was incredible too, I couldn’t really fault anything we had and will definitely be back to try more in the menu!

Our new favourite place in Saffron Walden. This shabby chic, super cool place was set up to utilise the additional space the owners had after moving their distillery from London to Essex, and I am really pleased they did. The food is - particularly for its price point - astonishing. Imaginative small plates and beautiful pasta made on the premises. The herbs and veg come from Audley end (just up the road) and another local supplier who I cant remember (sorry). It means you get an interesting mix of very authentic Italian food and local produce. The Tomato Tonnato was absolutely amazing. Fresh tomatoes atop a fish base. I’m not a Buratta fan but really enjoyed the fresh whole buratta with an orange dressing. The Carbonara was made using egg white rather than cream. The Fish pasta dish was simple, fresh and beautiful. Service was lovely. The owner is obviously present (I love owner managed businesses) and the staff are well trained and very enthusiastic. I had wine by the glass which wasn’t the best but next time (and there will be one) we will make it a bigger night out and buy a bottle.

Impeccable on all fronts! Chaters quickly became a favourite for coffee and cake in the day when it opened, but we only just managed to get there for dinner and we were extremely impressed (but not surprised, everyone raves about it!). The fresh pasta was divine and each of the small plates held their own - the steak tartare in particular was pretty outstanding. The staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was a really lovely blend of informal, cosy and yet really special. Simplicity and sophistication all at once. We are so lucky to have this place in Saffron Walden and we can't wait to return to try the rest of the menu. Thank you!

Best restaurant in town, no contest. Exemplary service, beautiful space and delicious food. My only criticism is that a couple of the tastiest sounding dishes were sold out by the time we ordered, which just meant there were fewer delicious options to choose from. Highly recommend. We will continue to go back.
