Lovely meal with friends. We’ve been to Max’s many times over the last few years and it’s always our go-to choice when we want a nice meal. Unfortunately this time the steak, ordered rare, was over cooked but this was rectified very quickly and the second one was perfect (unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of that one). Nice choices of wine. This place isn’t huge so make sure you book! Gluten free options are clearly marked on the menu.

I’ve got back for a snooze after a fantastic 2-course Theatre Menu experience. Fillet Steak - sauce, salad, fries. Done. Tiramisu - Done. The new venue is really well decorated and presented. Plenty of space between tables. I then saw a group booking of 20+ come in, so there’s even extra space behind the scenes! I cannot recommend highly enough. Thank you Team Max! *** Photos added following another sensational visit on 25/10/2023 ***

We ate lunch today at Max's Brasserie... atmosphere is lovely, staff are wonderful and friendly. Excellent service, restaurant is clean and all food well presented. We had a small issue with one of our dishes, the waiter couldn't have been more helpful.... we have eaten here many times and always find it to be superb.

Great welcome. Lovely food and wine. Great little find near to the Mayflower Theatre but remember to book. Please see if anything can be done to keep the door shut as when people arrive it gets left open and means leaving the table to get up and shut it!

I can't rate this restaurant enough! I went with my 2 Sisters as we were going to the theatre which was across the road so very convenient! The first thing we were asked was if we were going to the theatre as they wanted to make sure that our food was cooked in time so we didn't have to rush! The food was exceptional, the atmosphere was buzzing and the service was outstanding! Couldn't fault a thing and HIGHLY recommend going!!! 👍👍👍

Visited here as a group of 8 for a birthday, easy to book in advance online and pay £10 deposit per person via PayPal (later removed from the bill). Inside, the restaurant is quite long, tables are fairly cosy but it was fine for us. Staff were very friendly and attentive, Max was also serving and made sure everything went smoothly. All our food came out together and the quality of everything was great. Good portion sizes and full of flavour. I thoroughly enjoyed my monkfish from the specials and some of our group had steaks, which were excellent. There was also a good range of drinks and wines at varying prices, something for everyone. Since COVID I have found at most places, you either get good service or food, nice to get both in this place! Would definitely recommend and would love to go back one day.

This restaurant is small but well worth the visit, you have to book as it's extremely busy. The food is excellent the wine was delicious. We met the owner and his wife who both work there, they are so friendly.

Was in the area for the weekend with a friend and we had a three course dinner with drinks and would really recommend this place. The food was incredible and the service was fab and got us laughing. Good options for vegetarians too! Was also accommodating and said they could make pretty much anything on the menu vegetarian for me, though I ended up going for vegetarian options on their specials board.

Christmas party of 7 we had a great night - If you’re looking for authentic fresh Italian cooking, a great atmosphere and a fantastic night out then look no further than Max’s. He’s a terrific host and his staff are amazing and friendly. I’ve eaten in many places in Southampton and this is by far the best all round dining experience. His wine selection is also one of the finest in the area. Max’s knowledge of drinks is superb he can recommend the best wine/alcohol to go with your meal.. just ask! But perhaps best of all is his unique and exclusive Balsamic Gin and Tonic! Simply delicious .. go on give your tastebuds a treat you will love it! Well done Max and the team! We will be back.

seafood is not fresh but service is good though. A bit disappointed perhaps because I had high expectation for a 4.7 Google rating restaurant Ordered a squid ink seafood linguine: - mussels were dead/not fresh before cooking; fishy taste - other seafood are not fresh but frozen product - no taste of fresh squid ink as it's just squid ink pasta (rather than the fresh squid ink sauce)

Absolutely beautiful meal this evening. Max couldn’t do enough for us. Food was absolutely stunning. One of my children didn’t want ice cream for desert only melted chocolate and strawberries and that’s what he done for us. And my daughter wanted the brownie but there was none left. So he recommended the soufflé instead and she said it tasted even better than a brownie. Thank you max. Would definitely book next time we are in Southampton.

All in all a slightly disappointing experience? One of our waiters seemed to want be anywhere other than there. Sprinkled Parmesan whilst leaning over peoples food and dropping it in our drinks as he did. The food was… okay? But for £19 I would expect something more robust when it came to the chicken Alfredo type dish. The Arancini was amazing though 10/10. There was a loud thumping noise like the people upstairs were playing the drums or something which wasn’t very conducive to a conversation and staff were having visible frustrations with each other which wasn’t great to whiteness. Not terrible but slightly expensive and not up-to expectations which was a shame. Look

Went there and I asked for my food to be a take away ,. They said ok we can do that and I waited 120 min for the food to be ready., it was only three dishes I ordered ., finally came got the bag went home 30 min away looked in the bag half of the food was missing the other was wrong . Called the restaurant and they said we apologies please come back we will sort it . Came back and ended up with something completely different I asked the question why is this . They said people in the kitchen are not having their best time . I replied I heard the owner say to them no arguing just work but I didn’t get involved. Guys be careful there now that’s all I can say with out been negative about it., I won’t take my chances again.,

Second visit to this fabulous restaurant. Beautiful food, delicious wine with a varied choice available, great cocktails and the service is outstanding. Very much looking forward to returning to try the authentic Italian pizza! If you’re heading to the Mayflower, it’s a great spot for before or after the show. Thank you guys for another wonderful lunch!

Fantastic friendly service. They catered really well for my gluten allergy with many varied options. The theatre set menu was good value. The cocktails were a huge hit!

A warm welcome from the staff. Wonderful choice of delicious meals, freshly cooked, and cheerfully served. What a difference it makes to go to a family owned and staffed restaurant. Nothing is too much trouble. My wife and I left feeling uplifted after a delicious meal in a cheerful atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Absolutley tip top great menu and they are still in development. The only negative is the built in service charge never a fan of this . If the customer is always right then we should be choosing if we want to leave a tip i know this will put a lot of people off so come on guys drop the service charge your get your rewards as you are definetley worth visting and having the returning visits

Fab Italian restaurant serving fresh authentic food....no pizza, lots of fish based food and pasta. We had bruchetta to start it was delicious, really fresh sweet tomatoes on top of crisp bread. The pasta dishes to follow were fab and they will tailor it to your taste if for example you don't want too much chilli or want more they accommodate to suit your pallet. Staff are exceptional. Can thoroughly recommend....

The food was delicious the service was super quick. They made my evening and really pulled out all the stops to look after us. Highly recommend 10/10. Thank you guys, I will hopefully be back on my next visit down south!

Superb. I had the Swordfish Pasta and Pistachio Profiteroles for Lunch today and it was delicious. Friendly service and all in all a great lunch. Even the bread that I ordered to go with the Pasta was nicely warmed and of high quality. Looking forward to going again sometime.

Fantastic evening spent here last night with my daughters. Superb food and hospitality. Felt lovely and welcoming and Max's is a very professionally run restaurant. Had a few glasses of grappa with Max at the end of the evening, we will be back soon for the Wine Tasting evening, can't wait.

We went to max’a brassiere tonight and I don’t even know where to start. My boyfriend had bruschetta as a starter which was on the specials, it was soggy French stick with just chopped tomatoes. No flavour at all. Our starter plates were not taken away for a good 45 minutes and we had to go up to the bar to order more drinks. When our mains came my boyfriends pasta was poorly cooked, had a crunch too it and the pasta sauce was flavourless and tasted like just passata on its own. After complaining we were met with a very angry chef who got very close to my boyfriend in an aggressive manner. This was shocking and sad that as we complained about the quality of food we were made to feel that we were being unreasonable. The waiting staff were not supportive at all to us and we left without settleing the bill as the aggressive attitude we were faced with was absolutely shocking, confrontational and intimidating. Will not be going here again.

The food was really good but very short staffed so took a while to get it. The calamari for starter was the highlight one of the best i have had. Overall definitely recommended just expect to wait for your food

1st visit on a recommendation and won't be our last. Small, cosy with a great atmosphere. Staff attentive. Food amazing. I enjoyed the scallops to start and King prawn pasta. Others with us enjoyed the steak & lobster. Would highly recommend 😋👍

Went with my son after just doing a random search for nice restaurants nearby, really good food, typical Italian, sicilia service and chat, highly recommend and will definitely go back, nice menu.

Friendly and prompt service. Not too noisy so a good location for a quiet chat over dinner. Small but well executed menu - good well presented dishes but very slightly bland in flavour. Seems to be very popular so booking probably necessary.
