Gate is unlocked. Little bit of interesting Roman and pagan history.

Set in the middle of a housing estate, it is a little gem of history to be found. No time restrictions, no charge, parking next to the temple. The hardest part of it is finding I. A good temple to visit if you love all that is Roman.

Not very big but surprisingly interesting and free. Surreal to see this amongst housing

This was the final stop on my great West-to-East quest to visit all the Hadrian's Wall Sites. As others have said, it's right in the middle of a housing estate, but is quiet and peaceful nevertheless. The most interesting bit is that this is the only site ever discovered dedicated to this particular god, Antenociticus. If you want to see the head of his statue discovered here, it's in the Great North Museum, not far away and well worth a visit. (Entrance to the museum is free!)

Benwell Roman Temple is small but impressive. Nestled amid a housing estate it's a great example of the Roman history along Hadrian's Wall. The original items excavated from the site of the temple are displayed in central Newcastle, at the Great North Museum: Hancock.

It’s in a neighborhood. It’s fenced in and groomed. Unless you love history and walking on the same land where the Romans had walked, I would skip this and go to where more of Hadrian’s Wall is visible.

Lost among houses, the ruins of a Roman temple, show a bit of history.

Accessible history in the middle of a housing estate! Tucked at the top of a quiet Benwell street this temple is an interesting stop on a historical walk or a great way to educate the kids on what ancient gems lie just around the corner. I really like visiting here as the temple is dedicated to a local god who was adopted by the invading Romans.

Well cared for, jewel hidden in the middle name of suburbia.

Only saw it from the car but spoke to gentleman who lives near and he gave some interesting info. Will go and look properly at some point.

Remarkably preserved in the middle of residential area, and well kept surround. Worth hunting it to get sense of what it was near the Wall.
