It's a lovely place for walks and take the kids for activities and some nature education. You can do a kayak tour, sit and at a Cafe or bring your picnic. The scenery is not "breathtaking" but it's just a nice place to visit on a sunny Saturday with the family

Went during the week so it wasn't too busy but still quite a few people around. The location is really beautiful, it's obviously very interesting if you're a fan of the painter John Constable but even if you just appreciate the countryside its a great place to go. As well as the scenes that inspired Constable's paintings there is a small exhibition about him. As for other facilities, there's a tearoom, toilets, a good size car park, and a separate disabled car park that's much closer to the exhibition and scenery.

In the last month I've been twice. Looking forward to going back the end of this month. The national Trust electric river boat is great 👍 15 minutes to the turn around point is enough to enjoy the wildlife. Or simply take a stroll into Dedham for a lunch. Or maybe stay put and have something from the national Trust café. Good for all ages.

Large parking area, short walk down to the valley floor with steps, toilets clean on my visit. Very interesting place, good tearoom and large outdoor space overlooking the river and the boats. Busy on the day I visited. Very photogenic place. Highly recommend, although could be an expensive day out if not a National Trust member.

Visit the place that inspired one of Constable's most famous paintings, The Hay Wain. Whilst there, have a bite to eat and a refreshing drink, then stop by the RSPB area and chat with the lovely lady on duty. A beautiful and tranquil place.

We arrived at the car park around 11 am, and the pay & display machine is located at Welcome Hut. The branches cover some parts of the parking lot, so the inside car temperature is comfortable when we finished our 14km walk. The friendly staff gives us a brief introduction about some famous sites at the entrance. Recommend walking along the river, those beautiful sceneries will let you forget how long you have walked. Besides, the RSPB Flatford Wildlife Garden nearby is a good place too, small but interesting.

Great place to wander round, or hire a boat, or go on a(n electric) boat trip. There is a small exhibition describing Constable's work. There is also an RSPB wildlife garden and toilets.

Great to see the inspiration behind Constable's paintings, lovely countryside to walk through. You can hire a ring boat, take a trip on the national trust boat. Lovely picnic area on the banks of the river, by the cafe. Also RSPB garden.

Loved it. Special acknowledgment to Kim, the volunteer tour guide. We had a tour with her and really enjoyed it. Kim was super welcoming to our kids and we had a very informative and enjoyable time at Flatford Mill.

A whole 1 pound to park my motorcycle and peruse around beautiful Flatford Mill at my leisure. Always wanted to have a look at the location of John Constables painting The Hay Wain.

Excellent and interesting day out for the family. Loads to do and see with nice cafe by the river, boat rides / rowing boat hire, RSPB centre and of course interesting information on John Constable. We'll definitely go back..

We went here for the BioBlitz event and had a lovely time. We foraged through owl pellets for animal bones to find out clues about what the owls had been munching on and then partook in some pond dipping. The cafe had some tempting looking cakes (though on this occasion I resisted) and catered for vegans and kids, and vegan kids. Beautiful surroundings - well worth a visit. Photo credits to Lisa Hopson.

A wonderful calm place. The beautiful scenery is amazing and very much as it seemed years ago when Constable painted it. The natural beauty is bliss..

Absolutely stunning. A lovely walk and worth exploring. And plenty of entry points to swim along the river. Paddle boarding observed along the way. Highly recommend.

Lovely place to relax and enjoy Constable countryside. Good selection of drinks and snacks plus Lovely views of the river. We walked from Dedham to Flatford along the river. Not too long a walk (1.3m) but get to see the countryside or you can take the river boat if you want an easier day!

Very pretty countryside and architecture, with plenty of historical interest. Lots of parking available, free for National Trust members. From the parking area, a short walk down the path leads to a bridge that heads out to a walk alongside the river. Head left towards Flatford Mill and you can watch a short film about Constable in the first open building. Continuing, there's a beautiful old house - the day I visited in July there was an event taking place in the courtyard area with lots of live demonstrations and stalls. Beyond this is the iconic Willy Lott's Cottage, immortalised in Constable's Haywain, a picturesque, timeless scene. There are lovely walks around the surrounding countryside and the site is dog friendly. A small gift shop, café serving refreshments, and a pleasant wildlife garden are all a short walk from the parking area.

Such a beautiful place to visit. The walk from East Bergholt to Dedham is a lovely walk. Oh yes and it's famous for some painter bloke.

Experience the views that Constable had when he painted some of his masterpieces. A small exhibition shows a timeline of his life together with where he set up and painted from - so you can visit the same spot and see the changes across 200 years. Also a lovely cafe overlooking the river 🙂
