This is a fine example of the evolution in war ship design away from the all wood Hull to the armour plated sides of this vessel. Powered by both sail and steam, and with it's speed and large guns, it's little wonder it gave us battle supremecy at that time. But it remained a deterrent to foreign navies, as never a shot was fired in battle. A pity there isn't more information on-board, could have done with an audio guide like they have on HMS Victory.

An amazing ship! One that you see as you exit Portsmouth Harbour station. It's in great condition and really well presented. A must-see for those who want to explore the naval heritage of this city.

Such an interesting ship to see. Made by the Thames Ironworks which were West Ham United Football club were founded.

Super cool!! This massive tallship was once the largest in the Royal Navy fleet and the world, and sported the most firepower of any ship in its day. Period accurate crew are aboard to answer any questions you might have about the workings of this truly impressive vessel. Definitely a sight worth seeing in Portsmouth!

HMS Warrior was Queen Victoria’s most powerful warship. A mix of steam and sail and totally armoured. For a warship she is beautiful in design, and walking through the warren of passages took us back in history of when she was a fully militarised ship. The weaponry was extensive with 40 x 68lb canons on one of her decks. The ship is like a TARDIS as it certainly feels a lot bigger on the inside to how she looks on the outside. A fascinating insight on how improvements in warship design and development from the HMS Victory’s period.

Very interesting war ship. You can see why it scared everyone off and never actually saw any action. I loved the volunteers sharing their knowledge with us and making the tour even more interesting.

We really enjoyed the tour of the Warrior and the guides were really happy to to engage with us and played their roles of someone of that time in history to perfection. We got so much from it. It was one of the highlights of the tour around the dockyards.

Utterly fantastic! The beat part if my trip to the docklands. The staff yesterday (7th September) who were doing the morning gun drill and the stoker were absolutely incredible! Very knowledgeable and well-rehearsed in their roles, making the visit a top notch experience! A beautiful ship with lots to learn from it.

It was great to visit the fastest and most powerful ship in Queen's Victoria fleet. Unexpected discoveries about the huge size of the ship. It's not enough to go there one time. We need to come back 😉

A day on HMS Warrior is really impressive - the ship is in pristine condition and it is an amazing place to walk around. The tour was very informative and entertaining. It’s a truly immersive experience as you can touch and look at most things from lots of different sides. Takes about 90 minutes to walk around and definitely worth the visit as part of a dockyard visit.

Had a great experience aboard HMS Warrior. Met an in character member that was more than happy to provide us with facts and answer any questions. Amazing to have stood on the largest, fastest and most powerful warship of its time.

I cannot express how much I enjoyed this visit. Completely worth the ticket price. This is my second time. The 1st bist was 9 years ago. This visit I made more of an effort to talk and see the guides. Total worth it. They stay in character the complete time and are extremely knowledgeable! Register online and you can get 10% off. If you're looking for parking then search for Portsmouth historic carpark. It's 5min walk for the main gate.

Thankfully HMS Warrior is somewhat more comfortable to walk about than HMS Victory in so far as I could do it with a straightish back, the ship located just behind the entrance is accessed via the jetty where you pass a section of hull plating, I imagine wheelchair access could be gained to the top deck with some considerable exursion but that would be the limit as to enter below to the Main and lower decks and 24ft below the water line to the Orlop&hold would prove rather difficult. The ship is immaculate throughout and guides posted at various points throughout bedecked in authentic clothing of the period reenacting the roles for which they are dressed give the experience that living touch so to speak. The guide at the coal bunker was very good giving a dramatic insight into the life of stoker's and trimmers the life blood of the ship as well as associated customs between sailors and stoker's and also the pay. Each area has its own story to tell no doubt from the divers store, officers quarters right up to the captain himself, demonstrations take place throughout the day but we were unfortunate to miss these. Like the rest of the Historical Dockyard well worth a visit. A useful free guide is available an image of which I've attached

We went on the HMS Warrior for Warriorfest. It was great to see the ship while drinking beer and listening to music.

HMS Warrior is a magnificent Tall ship, one of the great attractions at Portsmouth historic dockyard. You get to explore pretty much the whole of the ship, photos are allowed and there are knowledgeable staff, in period costume. Guide books are available for a small price. These are great for having a read up afterwards and in case you miss anything.

This historic, mid-19th century ship being sold as an attraction is a very fitting description. As a part of the Historic Dockyard, the 40-gun ship is outfitted with authentic weaponry, a set of informative staff, and an in-depth view into how the ship ran and what life would have been like on board. We were able to attend a number of talks from the crew including how the engines ran and the personnel weaponry used, and my young brother was even allowed in a sailors hammock! Overall, a very interesting and fun experience, great for kids and adults alike, the only drawback is that for those that struggle with vertical movement the ship has lots of very steep stairs, almost closer to ladders, which were not the easiest to manoever.

Everybody knows about the Mary Rose and the Victory, but HMS Warrior 1860 is as much of a must-see as them. The world's first fully iron-hulled warship, it is fantastically well-preserved and presented, with actors playing sailors of the era who really bring it to life. One did a gunnery demonstration that alone was worth the visit. It's also the only ship where they give you a free leaflet with diagrams of all the decks - really useful. Very highly recommended. (P.S. The café on board is no longer open, even though it's still listed in the Dockyard guidebook).

We visited HMS Warrior whilst in the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. It is a spectacular ship, it was the largest Warship in the world. You have access to most of the ship. There are a number of decks, all as the ship was when active. There are many guides, some in costume who will answer any questions and are very knowledgeable in the history of the ship. It is a piece of our maritime history you should visit.

Incredibly large Victorian warship restored to its former glory. Its most definitely worth a visit. It was the highlight of my visit to the Historic Dockyard. Words are insufficient to describe this incredible vessel of a bygone age.

Beautiful ship. You get a real sense of what a huge step forward steam power represented. There are a few staff on board who play the part of crew members.... very convincingly. They will talk to you about any aspect of their lives at sea, being in the Navy... or life in general at the time. Fabulous 😁

This ship is absolutely phenomenal. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. The history, smells, and things to see, make it a great place to experience for any person looking to tour the ship. I recommend stopping in to view this ship if you have a chance. I liked it more than the HMS Victory.

Had a great time looking around and learning about the ship and many other interesting facts about that time. A special thanks to the gentleman, the 4th lieutenant on Dec 27th 2023(I added his picture), that showed my mum and I around and held my mum's crutches whenever we went up or down the stairs. Definately worth booking tickets to the dock yard and going to the warrior.

Absolutely brilliant to explore! The period actors were exemplary, they really knew how to respond to questions in a way relevant to the period the ship would have been at sea. Would highly recommend visiting. If you only had time to visit two places, HMS Warrior and HMS Victory would cover it.

Not only is this ship packed with lovely smiley staff, but also full of so much Victorian history and things to see, leaflets are comprehensive, and the ship itself is in incredible condition, would 100 percent recommend as a family day out.

The first of her kind, and the only to have survived. I can not give this star attraction enough praise. If you are lucky enough to visit on a day when the living history actors are there - the wealth of knowledge they have and how they deliver it is just outstanding. What a day.

Fun museum of an amazing war ship. Great historians on board make the visit memorable and authentic to the period.

A really good experience, which I enjoyed the most of all the Historic Dockyard’s attractions. We were lucky to be among very few visitors on the day we visited, but it’s a huge boat and I can’t imagine it filling up completely even on the busiest days. The ship’s history is fascinating, and everything about it gives you a really good impression of what things must have been like for sailors in the Royal Navy at that time - especially the actors, who did a fantastic job of explaining and demonstrating their duties, in character, at the end of a cold winter day.

  • 5/5 Garcia C. 2 years ago on Google
The ship is fantastic, a marvelous piece of engineering, way ahead of it's time. Second only to the victory on the attraction list.

What an incredible ship and story. It's not until you go inside that you realise how big she actually is. Role play characters were spot on, engaging, and informative. Many thanks to Michael Jack Hawkins, one of the volunteers, who was a wealth of knowledge, not only on the ship but on other related topics too. Could quite easily go on board again.

  • 5/5 Leanne L. 5 months ago on Google
Loved it. The staff on board brought history to life (literally) and we're very friendly. We felt we could have walked around 100 times and not become bored. Kids enjoyed spelling their names with Semaphore flags. Highly recommend a visit here. Just beware of steep stairs.

Great experience, great day out. Steep staircases, so not great if you dont like heights. Interesting and informative about life on board in the 1860s

I was here listening to the guy in the engine room, talking in period about the hard work and conditions that was on the Navy ship. Us northern folk never left our village they were under attack from the French, Spanish, who we used to rob their ships and so forth by the pirates, Sir Franicis Drake, so on. The largest ship of it's time.

This is the best experience I think in the whole docks. So well preserved and equipped to give you the experience of the sailors surroundings. A must see.

  • 5/5 Anthony C. 1 year ago on Google
Ship in excellet condition, although the lower decks may be inaccessible for some due to the dark lighting and the cramp space. One of the best sites of the shipyard as it explains the daily life of the sailors and showcases the different areas of the boat. It's like going back in history. If you have to choose one site to visit this is it

  • 5/5 Terry L. 9 months ago on Google
This area is great bit on the expensive side but worth paying for all the attractions just be mindful each one still tries to push a guide book onto you at an extra £5 each, but these are minor things will come back as 1 day is not enough

We decided to buy a year pass with the kids summer holidays approaching. We went on a Sunday, and my active 5 year old loved going round the ship. They had a band playing which were amazing and have since bought tickets to go see them.

A really worthwhile attraction. You can see the obvious technical advances made over the Victory. The onboard volunteers are very knowledgeable and bring the spirit of ship life to the fore.

Fantastic visit! Talk to the people around the ship, they are all lovely and friendly, I found everything so interesting. Unlike the victory there isn't a specific route to walk you're more free to roam about.

  • 5/5 Kirsty o. 1 year ago on Google
A great historical attraction. You get to see all levels and how life would've been on board. The team knew lots of additional information to help give you more of a view of life on board (and some of them were even dressed as though they were from the 1800s). Well worth a visit if in Portsmouth

Fascinating insight to people's lives in the past. A huge amount of work gone into the restoration. Building the original was an amazing feat as it was all done without electricity. The steam engines were the biggest in any ship at the time.
