We walked in on spec on a filthy day and found ourselves in a beautiful, light and tranquil place. When we showed interest, one of the friendly guides gave us a brief and perfectly-judged run-down of the key features of the ancient building and left us to roam. Remarkable features are the side isle vaults being equal in height to that of the nave, and the superb chapter house. What a glorious heritage the British cathedrals constitute! Bristol, new to us, is perhaps an underrated example. The British tradition of highly trained, amateur (i.e. 'for the love of it') cathedral guides is surely a source of the national pride we need so much at this terrible time.

Bristol Cathedral is a must sign seen in Bristol. The good thing is that it is for free, and when you go on there, you can you have a walk in Harbourside, and the amazing garden just in front of the church. Moreover, back to the Cathedral, if you're luck you can hear the amazing music group, with a stunning organ as big as the church's wall. God bless the place, and preserve its influence in town.

Interesting cathedral to explore for free but no photos inside - I did visit on a Sunday during the advertised opening hours, so it is possible that the no photography signs were still up from an earlier service.

A sprawling wonder in the heart of Bristol city. With so much to see inside this Cathedral, it's very helpful that you are given a map upon entering to find your way around. On top of some stunning architecture, there is a lovely garden there too with benches that are perfect for just sitting and taking in the peaceful atmosphere.

Bristol Cathedral is a remarkable medieval hall church with a unique design featuring vaulted ceilings in the Nave, Quire, and Aisles, all at the same height. This creates a spacious and elegant interior adorned with beautiful arches. The cathedral is open from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and on Saturday & Sunday, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Inside, you'll discover an exhibition and educational signs, making it an excellent place to explore during your visit to Bristol. The architecture is undeniably breathtaking, and the church exudes a sense of tradition, spirituality, and peace. No entrance fee and we are allowed to take photos.

Loved this place. Updated memorial to people enslaved by others and "traded" by some of the Bristol merchants was poinant and next to the candles for prayers for Ukraine. Super building, amazing ceiling and relevant work going on. No pressure to pay anything. Open to all with a chatty friendly person to help you. In an excellent position on College Green, between the central library an the Marriott Hotel, opposite The Lord Mayor's Chapel and The Council Hall. Walking distance of the river, shops and The Hippodrome.

A beautiful cathedral with stunning architecture!! Unfortunately I was too late to go inside and look round, but will make a point of doing so next time I’m here. Lots of open grassy areas at the front of the cathedral where people sit and congregate. Definitely worth a look.

A truly astonishing building. Real history here and such a well preserved monument. Dating back to 1200 this former Medieval building has been restored and added to over the centuries. It's free and open to the public and there is a lot of information available both in small plaques and in a booklet. As you walk around you get a real sense of history and grandeur. There are many tombs here of notable figures and it's like walking in a graveyard. The architecture is stunning with huge arches and beautiful stained glass windows. There are several chambers to explore and you're free to roam. Outside has a huge green which is popular for picnics. Unfortunately the cafe is closed

This beautiful historic medieval church is definitely worth visiting if you are in Bristol. The features of the gothic architecture is simply stunning and the more you walk around the cathedral, the more history you find out about this grade I listed building. I lit a candle here, and above this stands a stone called the 'harrowing of hell'. It dates from just before the Norman Conquest, and was discovered under the Chapter House floor after the fire of 1831, where it was being used as a coffin lid. It proves that there was a place of worship on this site in ancient times. Incredible history if you like this type of thing! We saw the cathedral in the day, but we popped back in the evening as they had the light show - something not to be missed.

Bristol Cathedral is one of the finest examples in the world of a medieval hall church, where the vaulted ceiling in the Nave, Quire and Aisles are all at the same height, creating a light and airy space with a series of elegant arches. Splendid architecture. It has always been a living place of sanctuary, teaching, prayer and music right in the heart of the city. Must not be missed, indeed.

Wonderful historic architecture in central Bristol - atmospheric cloisters and currently (during summer 2021) showing Luke Jerram artist - magnificent Museum of the Moon installation. Free entry, with donations encouraged of at least £5 per adult - and certainly worth it.

Really nice cathedral. I liked the stained glass windows, especially large red one to the right of the main altar area. Internal roof is also spectacular. Free entry but sure donations would be welcome.

Best place in town to have a feast on a low budget. Stuffed/Baked Potatoes and all the fixings will not leave you hungry for more. They also have the best Chocolate Brownie cake that you will ever find. You can tell it was all prepared with Love. If your in town you should visit.

Superb building. There is a large amount of historical information here in the form of dedications and inscriptions. An example is the memorial to soldiers killed in the Indian 'rebellion' of 1858. Beautiful stained glass windows and if you want sound effects, the organ is remarkable.

Really enjoyable visit, the stain glass windows are beautiful, plenty to explore with a quaint garden to recharge your batteries in relaxing on one of the seats. Well worth a visit!

Visited May 6, 2019: Beautiful architecture, but have to highlight the back area, since not all cathedrals have such, and how much of a peaceful atmosphere it had. The nearby City Council building makes for an even more inviting area before you enter the cathedral.

I'm incredibly impressed with the efforts the cathedral is taking to acknowledge the cathedral's links to slavery and be transparent about the way it has benefited. This is something that other institutions, including museums, should be doing across the country.

  • 5/5 Samuel M. 4 years ago on Google
Not religious, but when the science museum and the aquarium have about £15 entry fee and the cathedral only requires a voluntary small donation its amazingly good value. And if you like music they have lunchtime recitals.

The Bristol Cathedral is a beautiful example of architectural masterpiece. It's breathtaking both from inside and outside. It can be visited for free and opened 7 days a week. It opens its doors relatively early, but the recommended times for visiting the cathedral are outside the main services (usually from 10-11 am until 4 pm approx). The staff at the entrance was welcoming and ready to share some useful information about the cathedral. The ceiling of this cathedral is very unique in the UK, so it's worthwhile to pay attention to it. I can definitely recommend it to travellers and for anyone who's interested in history, religion or classical architecture.

Cathedrals are always a must visit, and this one is pretty standard as cathedrals go- though larger than most. The architecture is still spectacular and the stainglass is very admirable. Definitely pop in if you are in the area.

Fortunate to visit the Cathedral during the Moon Installation. I had witnessed so many installations of Art in london. But inside a cathedral is something special. There are a lot of stories about this Cathedral and once you visit you can revive it. Must visit if you are in Bristol.

A beautiful exhibition inside a beautiful building! On the entry you will be asked to put on a mask and sanitise your hands. There is a lot of volunteers inside that will be happy to answer all your questions. There is also space to just sit and reflect.

Recent Weekend trip to Bristol, sadly could only take in an hour of the awesome Cathedral, didn't get to see the Cloisters and would have liked more time to appreciate the beauty and history. Looks like another trip is planned next summer. Only downside was the cafe was closed..

Bristol Cathedral, the entire Cathedral of the Holy and Indivisible Trinity in Bristol, England. Founded in 1140 and consecrated in 1148 . Very much beautiful place. I advise you to visit when you are in Bristol.

This is a historic building where a lot of time can be happily spent. The award winning garden is a joy with lovely hidden surprises. There are chapels and monuments of all ages with informative reading nearby. I should welcome mirrors above effigies to view the detail of the figures. Modern window and sculpture there and mediaeval chandelier. Wonderfully bright as a hall church, the building all the same height. Had nice refreshments in the cafe. The toilet twinned with Uganda. Also, poignantly where a visiting bishop came from, died as a result of defying Idi Amin. Beautiful wild flowergarden in front of this impressive building. A gem for Bristol visitors.

I thoroughly enjoyed strolling around Bristol Cathedral. We were greeted by a very friendly verger who gave us a brief history of the building. I found it very interesting to walk around but the surprise for me was how nice a garden it has. A very pleasant place to have a brew on a nice day.

Stunning cathedral with a lovely hidden garden and cemetery. I visited it on a Saturday and it was a quiet and peaceful place. I was welcomed by a nice woman who gave me a pamphlet about the cathedral so it was easy to navigate through the different parts of it with explanation and details.

An oasis of calm. Even if you're not a believer, this place is worth visiting for the architecture alone. Alternatively you may be not be devout, but still worth visiting. Please help support the cathedral as these places ain't cheap to run. There are contactless payment points conveniently located by the entrance and exit. Any donation gratefully received.

Beautiful Cathedral located in the heart of Bristol. It is free entry (donation box) there is a small shop and café located inside. The Cathedral is clean and well looked after, there are several separate chapels some that are designated for prayers only which is great. The brick work of the Cathedral is absolutely stunning and just amazing how it was ever built. The Cathedral has a small garden at the back.
