How they are able to justify keeping this as a members only club is beyond me. Its been in the hands of a privileged few since the dawn of time. The council should repossess this area and open it to the public as they do in London, and make open water swimming truely accessible to the public.

What a beautiful and tranquil place for some essentially wild swimming, in an urban environment. Members only, but members can bring a guest. It is a very quiet place and sheltered from the wind. Bring a flask of tea or coffee, and a good book and don't look at the clock! If you can find a member to bring you as a guest - jump at the chance!

I went as a guest for the first time since I was a child and it was just as magical as I remember but only better. The swimming area has been extended and so has the grassy spaces too. Such a calm and lovely place to go for a swim! We visited during the June heatwave and the water was 20 degrees!

What a beautiful place and you would never even know it was there. Not a member myself but will definitely be going back for a guided tour next year.

I suffered a life changing injury which I've been using swimming to recover from and I emailed asking whether I'd be able to occasionally use the lake or make some arrangement and received the single most hostile email I've ever had in my life. I understand the popularity of the lake and how nice it is, but some understanding would go a long way.

What an amazing place to be on the hottest day of the year. Its taken us years to get community access to the lake due in part to covid i think, but what a time to finally sort it. The water was lovely and cool, the setting so pretty and nice to see a fair few friendly faces for a social chat. Next to a trip to the beach this was the perfect place to be 🙂☀️

Private lake in Bristol. You have to be a member to swim there, costs around 70,-£ per year. A friend took me along. Obviously members can bring a friend. A ticket for guests costs 6 £. It was lovely to swim in the cold water, outside temperatures were around 30 °C.

Summer with water temp about 19 degrees, sometimes more. Lovely. Henleaze Lake is a Charity with membership numbers restricted on safety grounds. Worth waiting and hoping to get in by annual ballot

Gorgeous, tranquil, refreshing. I have been a member for a few years now and it is by far my favourite thing to do in Bristol. Getting membership involves a bit of work. 1. Look at the website in March/April and see if they are accepting entries into the ballot that year 2. Send off an email or postcard with your details 3. Applications are selected at random until available spaces are filled 4. Successful applicants are invited to join as a community access member (pay per swim at less popular times) and/or join the waiting list for a full place (swim all sessions, bring up to 2 guests per visit). Unsuccessful applicants can choose to have their details retained for next years ballot. 6. It took me 1 year on the waiting list before I was offered full membership. It can take up to three. A bit of admin but well worth it and a pretty fair and efficient way of managing access to an oversubscribed facility. They are now offering monthly lake tours if you want to have a look round

We only visited the lake on a walk but it looked really nice I might consider joining. Used to swim in the serpentine in London

A beautiful place with a holiday feel although the water can be chilly (freezing). Lol! There is a Sauna to warm up in.

A beautiful location to chill, swim, or eat a picnic. Only tricky part is becoming a member 🙂

A little slice of green heaven amongst a busy residential area. It's quiet, fantastic services. Changing area for lake swimming. Dive boards. Plenty of space to enjoy. Does require subscription membership which more details can be provided via email/phone. I absolutely love to swim here & find it beneficial for my health. Lifeguards are on site.

5 stars relative to similar locations. Of which, there are none. Lovely setting if you like British weather and brown, cold water. Seriously, it’s a gem.

Beautiful scenery, great atmosphere on a sunny day! Sauna is a great addition however did not try out as such a hot day! Thoroughly recommend a visit - or become a member.
