Stunning but not overstated, the Cathedral Church of St Marie is Sheffield's second cathedral, built in 1850. The interior is peaceful and thoughtful, full of gold decoration but not overly gaudy. Slightly smaller than the other cathedral, St Marie's is filled with memorials and artwork in every niche and alcove. There are several separate transepts, each with their own places for prayer. There are regular services each day, guided tours every Wednesday and even organ demonstrations a few times a month. The website is very good for showing what's on.

Ive been here twice now, the first time was by accident 4 years ago, I asked for help and found this cathedral. It's the most peaceful place for thought and prayer. And unlike most of the one's in the US the prayer candles are real. Im here again after the death of my grandma... and I am able to complete the journey of grieving.

We frequently attended service at St Marie's Catholic Church. The mass service starts on time. Noticed that there may not be collections for offertory during weekdays but donations may be offered. Candles are available for praying and asking petitions. Please do not forget to drop the coin Infront of the first pillar facing the altar. There are details provided. You wont miss it. Angelus is also prayed after the service. We also got to attend the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on one Saturday we went for mass service. It was also an experience to witness a new member of the church converting to Catholism. Humbling and heartwarming. The church is within the City Centre, easy to find and very accessible. I really like this church - it's beautiful and peaceful. On top of that I love the fact that during the week there is Adoration and Confession from 11:30 am and Mass at 12:30 - please check the details for the rest of the Masses on the website. The most beautiful peaceful church anywhere. So lovely to look at and with wonderful stories about history and faithful people. A must see during a visit to Sheffield. Look for the graceful mellow stone spire just off Fargate and head for the entrance down Norfolk Row.

I grew up as a child going to this church .I have to admit my faith in it and the Catholic church has gone. I took my children last week to the morning mass and found mostly everyone was distant to talk to us and the priest unfriendly. So I have doubts if we will come back.
